Paul Russell Unveils Debut EP 'Again Sometime?' with Introductory Track “Homecoming”
Tumblr media
Platinum recording artist Paul Russell is set to make a significant mark with his highly anticipated debut EP, Again Sometime?, scheduled for release on August 30th via Arista Records. To build the excitement, Russell has unveiled the introductory track, “Homecoming,” which is available now. The release of this single, along with the EP, comes just in time for his upcoming appearance on Meghan Trainor’s Timeless Tour, which will be lighting up arenas across North America this fall. Pre-Save Again Sometime?  Listen to “Homecoming”  Timeless Tour Tickets  Russell describes Again Sometime? as the first chapter in a series of stories he’s eager to share. This initial EP is a love story told in seven scenes, charting the emotional highs of a relationship’s early stages—from the yearning to be together to the joy of finding a connection and, ultimately, the declaration of long-term love. Russell hopes that these tracks will resonate deeply, becoming the soundtrack to listeners' own romantic journeys. Before diving into this love story, however, Russell wanted to set the stage with a proper introduction. He explains, “Homecoming is meant to be an entry point into who I am, what I’m about, and how I want to make people feel. The song captures this exciting phase of my life, but it’s also about the joy of returning home and realizing how much you’ve grown. It’s about stepping into a new chapter while holding onto the lessons of the past.” Timeless Tour Dates Wed Sep 04 | Cincinnati, OH | Riverbend Music Center Fri Sep 06 | Pittsburgh, PA | Petersen Events Center Sat Sep 07 | Philadelphia, PA | TD Pavilion at The Mann Tue Sep 10 | Franklin, TN | FirstBank Amphitheater Thu Sep 12 | Raleigh, NC | Red Hat Amphitheater Fri Sep 13 | Alpharetta, GA | Ameris Bank Amphitheatre Sun Sep 15 | Charlotte, NC | PNC Music Pavilion Tue Sep 17 | Bristow, VA | Jiffy Lube Live Fri Sep 20 | Mansfield, MA | Xfinity Center Sat Sep 21 | Uncasville, CT | Mohegan Sun Arena Wed Sep 25 | New York, NY | Madison Square Garden Fri Sep 27 | Cuyahoga Falls, OH | Blossom Music Center Sat Sep 28 | Toronto, ON | Budweiser Stage Mon Sep 30 | Sterling Heights, MI | Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre Wed Oct 02 | Maryland Heights, MO | Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre Fri Oct 04 | Noblesville, IN | Ruoff Music Center Sat Oct 05 | Rosemont, IL | Allstate Arena Tue Oct 08 | Morrison, CO | Red Rocks Amphitheatre Thu Oct 10 | Rogers, AR | Walmart AMP Sat Oct 12 | Irving, TX | The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory Sun Oct 13 | The Woodlands, TX | The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman Wed Oct 16 | Phoenix, AZ | Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre Fri Oct 18 | Mountain View, CA | Shoreline Amphitheatre Sat Oct 19 | Inglewood, CA | Kia Forum Read the full article

Coheed And Cambria Aug 8 2024 At Stage AE in Pittsburgh PA Poster shirt
Coheed And Cambria Aug 8 2024 At Stage AE in Pittsburgh PA Poster shirt Rugby has something the NFL lacks — the tantalising prospect of representing your country in a meaningful international competition. In the 24 years of pro Rugby Union, the USA have traditionally had a rag-tag bunch of professional players ranging from second generation migrants from rugby playing families like Samu Manoa, who was playing amatuer rugby in the US and was talent scouted from a US reserve team tour into the top flight of European club rugby, to players like former USA captain Chris Wyles who was born in the states but moved to England as a Coheed And Cambria Aug 8 2024 At Stage AE in Pittsburgh PA Poster shirt and played his rugby in Europe. One of the guys from our school team in England ended up playing for the USA at the Rugby World Cup because he had an American born mother. Other USA players like AJ McGinty (who is Irish and plays for an English club) qualify for the USA national team via residency after studying there. If rugby takes off in the US as a semi-pro / pro club game, there is every likelihood of good college footballers switching sports and America producing a team of majority home-grown talent, but unlikely it will include many ex-NFL players, if any.

Local Arts Organizations Partner to Host a Citywide Showcase of Ceramic Art
Tumblr media
Wheeling is about to get a whole lot more creative as local ceramic artists, along with Oglebay Institute, Wheeling Heritage, Artworks Around Town, Clientele Art Studio and the McLure House Hotel are teaming up to host an extraordinary citywide ceramics art takeover! Ceramics Take Over Wheeling will be a seven-week-long showcase of ceramic art that includes juried art exhibitions, workshops, and special events. During this time, Wheeling will be bursting with unique and vibrant ceramic art pieces created by local and visiting artists. The concept for the Wheeling Ceramics Take Over was developed by local ceramic artist, Lambros Tsuhlares.  “When the concept of a ceramic take over with a national show was presented, the response from every person and organization involved was ‘what can we do to help.’ It was a process involving many people and many meetings over the last year and a half,” said Tsuhlares. “I think Wheeling is the perfect place to stage a national ceramic show and I am so excited for the Wheeling area to see the ceramic talent that is about to take place in this city.”  Ceramic work from "Earth & Fire" on display at Stifel Fine Arts Center gallery. The Main Event: Earth and Fire The focal point of the Ceramics Take Over is the Stifel Fine Arts Center’s inaugural Earth and Fire exhibition, which will be on display from Feb. 24 through March 31. Earth and Fire is a juried ceramic exhibition that will feature 99 ceramic works created by 78 artists representing 29 states. The exhibition will award $7,000 total in cash prizes, with a $4,000 top prize.  A free, public opening reception for Earth and Fire will be held at the Stifel Fine Arts Center on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Regular gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday. Admission is free. Rick Morgan, director of the Stifel Fine Arts Center, believes that Wheeling could “become a cool, trendy place for ceramicists.” He is hopeful that the annual ceramics event will attract more and more artists to town, and perhaps they will make Wheeling their home. “The Friendly City can be friendly to ceramic artists,” Morgan said. I hope you feel better soon! 4 days is absolutely no fun!!
I’ve been seeing a little like “what songs I think the guys would karaoke to” trend in tik tok and so my question is - what is your karaoke song (if you have one!!) and what song do you think the guys would do or what would you ✨want✨ them to do?
(I completely typed this out and then it deleted UGH)
I have a funny story actually about me and karaoke. (Not really, but..) I’ve done karaoke once in my adult life and I am scarred..I was at a bar called Tequila Cowboy in downtown Pittsburgh, PA (iykyk) and my friends somehow convinced each other and myself to do a 4 person karaoke song in the middle of a packed bar on a Friday night. ( I mean PACKED). Naturally, had to have too much liquid courage to get me on stage in front of at least 100 people, my friends picked Body Like a Backroad by Sam Hunt. Again, naturally, with enough alcohol I just went along with it. Well, we had a random stranger video tape us and let me tell you, when I watched that video back the next day on the drive home I was laughing and crying from embarrassment we were ATROCIOUS! To this day, if my friends and I hear the beginning of that song we lose our minds 😂 So, I’ve sworn off of karaoke since then. But, if I had to redeem myself I feel like I would pick Neon Moon by Brooks & Dunn (or I’d try a Greta song but probably suck)
As far as the guys, hmm…I’ve always thought Jake and Josh would absolutely SLAY What’s Up? By 4 Non Blondes..or Jake would do his own Elvis song
Danny gives me Shania Twain vibes for some reason and I feel like Sam would tag along just to follow his best friend or I could easily see Sam singing a George Harrison track.

The Republican Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, brought his act to Pittsburgh on Friday and left little doubt that he’s running for president in 2024. We need to talk about this, but first let’s look at the even more revealing event that DeSantis staged right before he boarded the jet for his Rust Belt road swing — a full-on display of what 21st-century American fascism looks like.
In heavily Democratic Fort Lauderdale, the 5′9″ DeSantis — the modern fulfillment of the Jimmy Breslin-ism about a small man in search of a balcony — elevated himself on a podium, flanked as he so often is by armed and uniformed men and women of law enforcement, to highlight his crackdown on supposed voter fraud ahead of November’s election.
“That is against the law, and now they’re gonna pay the price for it,” DeSantis declared of 20 Floridians — almost all from Democratic strongholds such as Broward County, where his campaign-rally-style announcement was staged, or Miami-Dade — accused of casting ballots despite a law barring them because they’d been convicted of murder or sexual assault.
But the event and its stench of “law and order” intimidation revealed so much more through what was left unsaid. Such as the fact that DeSantis’ Office of Election Crimes and Security — like so much that the Florida Governor does, a dangerous escalation of the GOP’s long-running war on voting rights into straight-up authoritarian territory — has spent $3.9 million in taxpayer dollars to find alleged fraud in less than 0.0002% of the 11 million votes cast in the Sunshine State. The outlay is about $195,000 for each allegation.
But arguably more outrageous is the way that Team DeSantis is less exposing a systematic problem — actual voting fraud in America is extremely rare — but rather taking cynical advantage of several years of confusion in Florida over its laws regarding whether people convicted of crimes can vote. In 2018, the state’s voters overwhelmingly passed a referendum allowing most felons who’d served their time to vote, only for GOP lawmakers to muddy the waters by imposing new requirements for restitution. It’s now apparent there was widespread confusion — not just among citizens, but from government officials — over who could vote in 2020.
Indeed, Florida journalists who dug into the 20 criminal cases found a scenario rooted in benign confusion, not malicious fraud. In Orange County, Fla., the three people charged with third-degree felonies — punishable up to five years in prison — said they mistakenly believed their rights had been restored in the 2018 vote, and one man said he’d simply been sent a ballot in the mail and returned it. Nathan Hart, 49, told the Miami Herald he was renewing his driver’s license when a man at a voter registration booth convinced him, mistakenly, he was eligible to vote. “One individual guy voting when he thought he could is hardly voter fraud,” said Hart, now terrified of losing the life he’d rebuilt after his incarceration.
There are two very important things going on here — and neither of them is a real-world problem around “election integrity.” Most immediately, DeSantis — favored for re-election in November, but hardly a lock in a state he won by just 32,000 votes in 2018 — clearly seeks a chilling effect that would frighten thousands of voters who are unsure of their eligibility and now may stay home rather than risk getting arrested.
The broader implication is even more frightening. The time for mincing words is over. This is the latest and most alarming manifestation of a now barely hidden fascism by the head of America’s third-largest state, and one of the handful of serious contenders for the White House. DeSantis’ push for voter suppression and the increasingly paramilitaristic vibe of his public appearances prove the Floridian is the one we’ve been warning about: A post-Trump Republican taking a war on democracy to an even more dangerous place, minus the buffoonish narcissism of the 45th President.
DeSantis has embraced a politics that has absolutely nothing to do with traditional conservative blather about freedom and everything to do with raw power. This 43-year-old rising force has already surpassed the dark promise of Trump by going after corporations who’ve dared to criticize him, seeking to chill classroom discussions about race or gender, and even overriding the results of a democratic election for a large-county prosecutor whose offense was having a differing opinion.
In this context, DeSantis’ national campaign swing — which came to Pennsylvania this weekend with his controversial embrace of our extremist and Christian nationalist GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano — marks a major turning point as America looks warily toward a 2024 election that already has a kind of 1860 feel to it. Right now, DeSantis — the only serious Republican rival to Trump, according to the polls — is demolishing the myth that The Former Guy would be challenged by a moderate. Instead, DeSantis is taking the loose ideology of Trumpism to new extremes of demonizing The Other and positioning the GOP as an anti-democracy movement.
With more than 100 protesters outside, DeSantis told a packed downtown Pittsburgh hotel ballroom, in a lame, whiny echo of Winston Churchill: “We must fight the woke in our schools. We must fight the woke in our businesses. We must fight the woke in government agencies. We can never, ever surrender to woke ideology.” The use of a cadence that opposed Nazism in 1940 to instead attack American citizens as the enemy was obscene.
Just the fact that DeSantis, the head of a state with a large Jewish population, thought it important to endorse Mastriano — despite the shocking revelations about the Pennsylvanian’s ties to the website Gab, a cesspool of anti-Semitism that inspired the 2018 mass murderer of 11 Jewish people at a synagogue just a few miles from where he spoke — was a powerful illustration of a political party’s downward spiral into madness.
In addition to the anti-Semitism flap, something else that DeSantis never mentioned once on his Pennsylvania road trip was Donald Trump — but the former President was clearly paying attention. Just minutes after DeSantis finished speaking in the 412, the FPOTUS tweeted that he, too, is coming to Pennsylvania to rally with Mastriano, as well as his endorsed U.S. Senate candidate, Mehmet Oz, on Sept. 3 in Wilkes-Barre.
Let that sink in. The radical extremism of Mastriano — who brought busloads of supporters to D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021 and marched to the brink of the Capitol during an insurrection; who organized a slate of fake electors and has made clear his hostility to counting every vote; who invokes God to promote radical views against abortion, climate change, and public education — was supposed to make the Republican establishment run for the hills. Instead, the two true leaders of today’s GOP are tripping over each other to embrace a homophobic anti-Semite bidding to run the state where the American Experiment began.
The stakes for 2024 have never looked starker than Friday as the sun set over the Ohio River.
DeSantis ended his speech with a plea for supporters to “put on the full armor of God.” It was a blatant signal that the Floridian is fully down with a Christian nationalism that not only subverts the Founders’ desire for a separation of church and state, but looks nothing like what Jesus would actually do. Because in Ron DeSantis’ vision of America, cursed are the meek — the transgender kid with a target on their back, the schoolchildren he wants to indoctrinate with false, sanitized history, the communities of color seeking to exercise their hard-fought voting rights. We who believe in free speech and free inquiry in the face of an oppressive state must also don our armor, because this, the fight for the soul of America, has been joined.

FIXING SISTER
1916
Tumblr media
Fixing Sister is a four-act play by Lawrence Whitman (aka William Hodge). It was originally produced by Lee Shubert starring Mr. Hodge.
‘Fixing Sister’ tells how a devoted brother outwits a headstrong sister who has been carried away by the temptations of luxury, title-hunting, and bridge whist gambling, in the midst of the gay society life of the metropolitan rich. As a result of her foreign travels, she has almost annexed a foreign nobleman of untested lineage. Her brother. John Otis, a representative American of a shrewd and humorous sort,  learning of his sister’s peril, hastens to New York from Kansas City. It Is his native common sense and shrewdness which effect a not sudden, but finally very effective, cure, including staging a police raid at her bridge party. He also rescues his own sweetheart, a tantalizingly Independent sort of American girl, from the wiles and the guiles of New York society and foreign nobility.
All four acts take place in New York City.
Tumblr media
Bridge whist is a card game popular in the early 20th century. It was derived from whist with the additional rules that the players would take turns as dummy and that the trump suit would be deliberately chosen (including the option not to have one) on each deal rather than random.
"Next Thursday night will be ‘police night' at Maxine Elliott's Theater, when the members of the police department gambling squad will attend in a body to see the performance of William Hodge in ‘Fixing Sister,' in order to enjoy the spectacular police raid of a gambling party, which furnishes an exciting climax to the third act.” ~ EVENING STAR
Tumblr media
The somewhat odd title was one of a dozen considered by Hodge. It was originally announced as The Social Climbers, but that seemed too similar to Clyde Fitch’s 1901 play The Climbers.
Tumblr media
Fixing Sister opened in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on January 16, 1916. From there, it traveled to Wilmington DE, Altoona PA, Pittsburgh PA, and Boston MA.
Tumblr media
After Beantown (Boston), Hodge and company went to the Motor City (Detroit) before returning to Boston’s Majestic, where business was brisk.
“As an indication of the volume of business being done, it was necessary, on Ash Wednesday, to place the orchestra on the stage and sell seats in the pit usually occupied by the musicians.”
In mid-March 1916, Hodge made a formal announcement confirming the rumors that he was indeed playwright Lawrence Whitman. At the end of March, Hodge took on a second play in his downtime: Hobson’s Choice at the Wilbur. He requested that Mr. Shubert cancel one of his Fixing Sister matinees so that he might perform in Hobson’s, but Shubert declined. Instead, he arranged a special benefit of Hobson’s at an alternate time.
Tumblr media
Although the above item appears to be an article, it is actually a paid advertisement! Do not send Miss Maxwell-Conover stray cats!
Tumblr media
The Boston engagement finally came to an end on April 22, 1916. Although Broadway seemed the next logical step, the play moved to Maine through the end of the month. Hodge then retired to his summer home on Long Island to be with his wife and three small children, looking forward to bringing the play to Broadway in the new season.
Tumblr media
Getting the play back on its feet, Hodge chose Pittsburgh, returning to the Alvin, where the play initially enjoyed a brief stay.
Tumblr media
Fixing Sister opened on Broadway at Maxine Elliott’s Theatre (109 West 39th Street) on October 4, 1916.
Tumblr media
“Early in the play the audience is let into the secret. The onlooker is taken into the confidence of the leading character and the game is won. The audience plays the rest of the piece. The interest and enthusiasm is so alive that it comes in waves to me across the footlights. Such a play is bound to be a delight to both the folk who play it and those who are entertained by it.” ~ WILLIAM HODGE
Tumblr media
“Mr. Whitman’s play dramatizes the yellow journal idea of society life in Manhattan.” ~ BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE

“When will Missouri stop ‘showing’ us New York?” ~ CHARLES DARNTON
Hodge’s character, John Otis, is from Kansas City, Missouri (aka the ‘Show Me’ State)
“Interest is sustained as long as [Hodge] is on the stage, making droll remarks about everything in general in his inimitable manner, but it lags perceptibly when the other characters are depended upon to keep things going.” ~ BROOKLYN LIFE
Tumblr media
In early November, the production cleverly addressed rumors that Hodge would close the New York production and tour. A week later, the play was extended, selling advance tickets for as far ahead as New Year’s.
Tumblr media
Despite this, Hodge packed his tents and moved the play to Chicago a week before Christmas. It ran on Broadway for 85 performances.

The tour will go on-sale to the public this Friday, February 9th at 10AM local time. Full tour dates listed below. For 20 years The Decemberists have been one of the most original, daring, and thrilling American rock bands. Founded in the year 2000 when singer, songwriter, and guitarist Colin Meloy moved from Montana to Portland, Oregon and met bassist Nate Query, keyboardist Jenny Conlee, and guitarist Chris Funk, The Decemberists’ distinctive brand of hyperliterate folk-rock set them apart from the start with the release of their debut EP 5 Songs in 2001. After making their full-length debut with Castaways and Cutouts in 2002, the band signed with Kill Rock Stars for the release of the acclaimed albums Her Majesty the Decemberists (2003) and Picaresque (2005), which was produced by Chris Walla. The 2004 EP The Tain – an 18-minute single-track epic – made the band’s grand creative ambitions clear.   Around this time the band’s permanent line-up fell into place with the arrival of drummer John Moen, and they made the unexpected leap to Capitol Records for their first major label album in 2006. Fans’ concerns of whether the band would alter their trademark sound quickly vanished when they delivered their most ambitious and audacious record to date in The Crane Wife, a song cycle produced by Walla and Tucker Martine (who would become a longtime creative partner) that added elements of ‘70s prog, hard rock and even quasi-disco to their palette. The album was met by wide acclaim from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Stereogum, and was named Best New Music by Pitchfork.   Three years later, The Hazards of Love – a full-length concept album based on Meloy’s idea for a stage musical - was a Top 20 hit. In 2011, they topped themselves yet again with their first #1 album, The King Is Dead, which featured the GRAMMY-nominated song “Down By The Water.” After their 2015 album What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, which included the #1 AAA radio hit “Make You Better,” The Decemberists changed up… https://chorus.fm/news/the-decemberists-burial-ground/
