Here's why I believe the vessels do infact possess the ability to speak! (It just doesn't come so naturally to them!)

So we know that the void corrupting their bodies is what supposedly destroyed their ability to vocalize themselves "No voice to cry suffering" as the pale king would say. I have multiple sources of evidence to suggest this isn't entirely the case!

1- the king was wrong about the void, and specifically the way it would effect the vessels, in more ways than one!

"No mind to think" and "No will to break" are both clearly and blatantly untrue and sort of the point of the whole game.

Both the hollow knight and Ghost are shown to posses strong wills, and individual thoughts and desires.

2- the pure vessels cut dream nail dialogue!

It's not "can not speak" it's "do not speak" Which implies that it is very much possible! (and also I wonder about the implications of pv thinking this in particular? I know it's cut dialogue but still.. very interesting.)

3- the collector!

The collector is not only a void being but more of one than any of the vessels, who do posses bodies of Wyrm and Root.

it is most likely a Kingsmould, or was one originally at least. And does not have an actual body of its own.

So the only other void beings in the game (the Kingsmoulds) are confirmed to posses the ability to speak. How this came to be in the collectors case is unknown but it certainly came to be!

I don't see why it would be impossible for any vessel to be able to!

Void Abilities

Here are some of the void abilities that can manifest in a vessel. How they function when they are undeveloped with little to no control, vs developed with full control.

The adult/developed pictures are non-cannon to the comic universe. Just thought it would be neat to show the adult vessels performing the void abilities they had.

Some notes below

This took me a week to put together, though partially because I kept editing some stuff. Originally, they all had the same cloak design and same cloak color, and that...that was just ugly LMAO So I changed that.

All Vessels were made with the same base (probably obvious) except for Lost Kin, because of course, Lost Kin ALWAYS has to be contrary, the little shit.

The Vessels are separated into the 'category' that they're unique to, which is in turn split into where they're 'found' in-game. Though again, the game reuses designs frequently (an example being the Sibling Shade with four horns: that's also a Vessel shown in the Godhome Cutscene, and the Deepnest ram horn is also a Sibling in the abyss.)

This was actually really REALLY fun to do. It was originally jsut a way to make Reference Sheet icons for my fics, to remind myself which name belonged to which Vessel, and I just...Had too much fun and decided to do ALL of them.

There are 33 Canon designs in the game (Or at least 33 that I was able to identify) and 6 "canon" cut content designs. 6 Vessels on this page were made for fun, and to fill some space.

I'm also aware that some of the designs on this page might look similar to some Vessel OCs that someone might've created, but I assure you, most of these designs were taken from the game assets. And the onest that were are my own design (Velvet and Luna) or made by just messing around. The similarity is unintentional.

As a side note, I kinda want to make some more of mess-around designs. I've got some more ideas, and one more unnamed OC I might do.

If anyone's interested in the full-size individual images of any of the Vessels [free of the category tint] I'd be willing to send you them. I had to scale this image down by half just for Tumblr to upload it LMAO. I won't be posting them individually.

That being said, please don't use this page for anything beyond a visual reference without permission, please?

I was really interested in how many shapes of vessel heads there are canonically in Hollow Knight, so I did some research (aka my looking intensely at the abyss and the wiki)

anyway as far as I can see, there’s 17 shapes!

Kind of headcanoning here (for canon and AU) that Vessels don't grow naturally because they have a limited amount of Void making up their body. So you gotta like, manually make them bigger by giving them more building material (Void) to work with.

Character bio of the main clutch. Some general info about them, their abilities, and the names I call them. I had originally planned to only do bios on the main siblings group, but I couldn’t stop myself. So now you have the bios on all the vessels that have appeared thus far. And one that has only been mentioned in passing.

Horn Tests!

[Theres a few others I’ve done that aren’t pictured that need alterations to the pattern too.]

I’m working on getting the Horn Patterns done before I start lining them out on the final fabric, so I don’t have to worry about coming back to do more and they’re all there for that process.

The worst ones are the big and weird shaped ones. But most are just simple curved triangles lmao

(might redo Godhome Straight, it’s a bit too curved…And Unicorn, not sure about that one either.)
