Consolidated HL Character Profile #2:
— Sebastian Sallow —
Tumblr media
Note: Finally, here is Sebastian's version of the complete profile analysis I've done before! I actually started doing his profile before Ominis' but his character information and background became more difficult for me to understand. Nevertheless, I'm happy to post this one for all the Sebastian girlies — and fans in general! 💕
As always, tags and shoutouts are at the very end of this post.
This is a very, very long post. Pace yourself and take your time.
—---—---—---—---—
I. Possible Birth Place
NOTE: These are all speculated places backed with cross-referenced research, and other people’s headcanons. This was the most difficult part of this post, and I am open to other suggestions and ideas.
Before we begin to even tackle all the possible birthplaces of Sebastian (and Anne), there are a couple of important things that needed to be discussed. At the end of this segment, there will be options to choose from based on narrowed down (and specified) locations.
Firstly, we know that Sebastian’s parents were professors who unfortunately passed away before he and Anne developed their magical abilities. Therefore, majority of people in the HL community have an unspoken agreement that the Sallow family (except Solomon) used to live near Hogwarts—if Mr. and Mrs. Sallow were to fulfill their work as professors during the day, and come home to their children at night every single day. They had to live near their place of work because it was indicated that they spent nearly every waking moment in the cellar attending to their academic pursuits.
But wait… where exactly is Hogwarts located?
Scotland is a massive place with lots of towns and cities. In order to narrow down the possible locations of where Hogwarts is situated, I have referred to this source that had studied this whole topic with as much precision as possible that simultaneously pieced together book-canon mentions of the castle itself.
This map shown below is the route that the Hogwarts Express travels from London (at King’s Cross Station) to the castle that oversees Hogsmeade as well. According to the website linked above, standard Victorian steam-powered trains run for 80mph (or 128kph). But under route calculation and terrain consideration, the train would have had the speed of around 65mph if it is to comply with the fact that the students reach Hogwarts by nighttime. And since the entire magical community of Hogwarts and Hogsmeade (and the entire magical Scottish Highlands) are hidden from muggle view, the estimation of Hogwarts’ location is either the Galloway Hills or the West Highlands.
For the sake of congruency between book-canon information and the landscape of the game’s map, this post will settle on the West Highlands instead.
Tumblr media
Fun Fact: It was said that Hogsmeade was founded by an Englishman named Hengist of Woodcroft. I noticed that places with the word “-croft” is predominant in Hogwarts Legacy. There’s the Undercroft and Feldcroft, and I think it wraps up nicely alongside the origins of the founder of Hogsmeade himself.
Now that Hogwarts’ location has been established, let’s move on with Sebastian’s possible birthplaces.
1. Aranshire
It has been such a long while ago, but I have asked permission from @hogwartslegacypics to reference the post she did before. (Thank you for allowing me to use your work for mine. All pictures used in this segment are credited to you).
There have been deleted voice lines that Sebastian would say or be triggered when you walk with him around this area using the Companion Mod. The quest in Aranshire would have the main character investigate what happened in the village becoming abandoned by its townspeople. This would lead to a house inhabited by Mary Portman, and she was responsible for breeding all sorts of spiders in the cellar of her house.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, Sebastian would have a specific voice line once you get inside the cellar. I have tried to activate this dialogue with other NPC’s but it’s only him that says it. There is the possibility that this quest was supposed to be done with Sebastian as part of his questline.
Tumblr media
In this video, with the timestamp 59:39, only Sebastian says this line:
“I suppose we know what happened to Mary Portman. She was breeding the spiders.”
It would be both economical and logical for the Sallow professors to have a house near their place of employment instead of boarding with the other professors in the Faculty Tower without a live-in sitter watching their two children. And even if they did hire someone to watch their children, we were never given any indication that the twins were left under someone else's care when Mr. and Mrs. Sallow were still alive. Plus, it would put quite a dent on their finances to rely on childcare services for the whole school year that they'd be at work.
Lastly, giving birth at home is the norm during Victorian times. According to the Victorian Web:
"... for much of the nineteenth century the safest place to be delivered, regardless of social class, was at home by a well-trained midwife. Until the widespread use of antisepsis in the 1880s, male practitioners were more likely to carry infection, using unclean instruments and moving as they did between different types of medical cases and post-mortems to deliveries."
And so, it would make perfect sense that Mrs. Sallow would give birth at the comfort and safety of their home—which would indicate that Sebastian and Anne's birthplace would be Aranshire, or at the very least, near Hogwarts.
2. St. Mungo’s Hospital, London
Another possible place where Sebastian and Anne might have been born is actually at St. Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
I would like to believe that Wizarding medical practices have stark differences from their muggle counterparts, and that the use of magic may have provided the Wizarding world some medical advances long before muggle technological discoveries.
While all of this is just speculation, there is also the possibility of complications with giving birth to a set of twins. Given that most women of the Victorian age preferred home births due to the higher maternal mortality rate with hospital births, there could still be the possibility that Mrs. Sallow had Sebastian and Anne at the hospital.
Both of his parents are professors, and was said to be open-minded folks. It wouldn't be surprising if they are the type of new parents who had read every maternity book they could get their hands on, and may have chosen the option of having medical witches and wizards to aid the delivery of the twins—should any sort of complications arise in the midst of labor.
St. Mungo's Hospital is located in London, concealed in such a manner similar to that of Diagon Alley.
"To enter the premises, one might step through the window of what appeared to be a red-bricked, condemned department store called Purge and Dowse, Ltd. This acted as a magical gateway to the main building, much like the barrier at King's Cross Station to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. Although the "department store" building housing the hospital might have been relatively small, this was not an indication of the true capacity of a magical building, the interior looked exactly as a hospital should. One way an individual could enter the building was speaking to an apparently inanimate dummy in the department store."
3. Fort William, Scotland
For Sebastian's last possible place of birth, I had to resort to looking at his wiki page. There was one little thing that I noticed written on his biographical information. There is chance that he is a half-blood.
Given that both his parents are professors, we don't actually have any actual confirmation or evidence that they taught at Hogwarts!
It could be feasible that one of Sebastian's parents was indeed a professor at Hogwarts, while the other one taught at a muggle school. If that's the case, then the Sallow family might have to settle somewhere in the "middle" of their place of work—one goes to the Wizarding community while the other goes to the nearest muggle town.
And according to the map below, the nearest muggle town that was actually the final stop before Hogwarts was Fort William.
Tumblr media
Although, just because Sebastian and Anne were born here doesn't mean that they were raised here. It was still canonically stated that Sebastian grew up within the Wizarding community; which is around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Aranshire, and other hamlets deep in the Scottish Highlands.
Nevertheless, if one really wants to pinpoint an actual location on the (muggle) map, then Fort William is the nearest and most likely place. And yes, the Hogwarts Express Train passes by this beautiful town.
Tumblr media
End Results:
Sebastian (and Anne) was most likely born in Aranshire, given the amount of evidence we have in the game—alongside exclusive deleted voice lines from the character himself. Then again, the two other options listed above can be considered as well if we entertain the idea of expounding on the tidbits and hints of information we have about him (such as the possibility that he is a half-blood).

II. Possible Date of Birth
NOTE: If you're not interested in astrology, you can just skip this one, and go to Part 3, 4, and 5!
This section of the post is pure speculation, and no solid proof at all. But we do know that Sebastian should be born between September 1, 1874 and August 31, 1875 if he was to be eleven years-old during the start of his first year at Hogwarts. Therefore, all of the following information is gathered by astrological observations of his character.
(I have a personal tarot and astrology account, @tarotwitchy, if you guys are interested in knowing more about this type of content).
Tumblr media
Based on character analysis, I believe that Sebastian is a Virgo Sun, Scorpio Moon, and Sagittarius Rising.
Now, what does that mean?
Let's break down his character one astrological placement at a time.
1. Virgo Sun
— A lot of people think he is a Scorpio Sun. But as one myself, he doesn't quite fit the bill. Instead, based on his actions throughout the game, he represents the hallmark traits of a Virgo Sun. A person with this placement is someone who gets things done. They have laser-sharp focus on things that matter to them, and they will stop at nothing until they've satisfied their own thirst for knowledge and understanding and experience of whichever captivated their whole attention.
— It's because of this "obsessive" behavior that he is tagged as a Scorpio. But in his case, obsession is a manifestation of an unhealthy Virgo; one that cannot admit defeat and accept their losses. It's like beating a dead horse. It's not actually obsession that took over Sebastian. It's his stubbornness. It's his refusal to acknowledge that he is, in fact, not correct in his methods, and disregards anyone else's advice and pleas for him to stop.
— Before the whole Scriptorium and Relic debacle, you get to know him as someone who has a great reputation around school. The professors and the librarian acknowledge that he is a bright boy, and a notable duellist. When done right, a person with Virgo Sun shines brightly in perfecting their crafts and honing their strengths. The best part is that they have no qualms about helping others reach their full potential as well (and this is evident with the way he helps the MC perform well in practicing spells and teaching them Confringo. He loves knowing beyond what the school is willing to teach. For him, knowledge is knowledge).
2. Scorpio Moon
— This is what most people think he is. But in astrology, the basest of our instincts and emotional fallback is not reflected by our Sun sign but by our Moon sign. Our Moon sign is our last line of defense when the going gets tough. We fall into the characteristics of this placement when our "public façade" has failed to mitigate whatever issue we're dealing with.
— As for Sebastian, his Scorpio Moon took hold of the reins during the time when he was running on fumes; mentally, emotionally, and physically. In Ominis' only note, he mentioned that Sebastian is not acting like himself. As much as he is severely influenced by the Relic, it is believed that Dark Magic amplifies the wizard's emotional status.
— With Sebastian, he was already emotionally worn out from the knawing hopelessness of his sister's condition and from the verbal assault he endures from his uncle. When you combine all these elements together, you get the unhealthiest version of a volatile Scorpio Moon.
3. Virgo Mercury
— People with their Mercury in Virgo are reservoirs of both knowledge and the ambition to understand more than what they already know. They aren't the type of people to stop searching for answers simply because they already found a half-baked solution to their problems. They go the extra mile, and then some more.
— And as we all know, Sebastian had turned the entire library upside down reading tome after tome on possible solutions for Anne's dilemma. A Slytherin main character would first encounter him pacing back and forth in the common room reading a huge book... on the first day of school.
— Majority of people with this astrological placement report that they just have that intellectual "itch" that needs to be scratched with more and more information, experimentation, research, and discovery. Until that hunger is satiated, they will not stop their quest to find out the truth they seek. We see Sebastian's downward spiral with this attribute. He was willing to go as far as casting the Cruciatus curse just to get his hands on Salazar Slytherin's spellbook.
4. Scorpio Venus
— Men with Scorpio Venuses are those who aren’t afraid with the nitty gritty of interpersonal and romantic relationships. Some people like to keep things on the surface level, not really bothering with really getting to know other people on an intimate level. And yet, Sebastian has shown to be yearning for more information about the people he’s involved with.
— In the game, when the main character was starting to understand their abilities with ancient magic, Sebastian was quick to ask, “what aren’t you telling me?” He’s the kind of person who goes beyond the hi’s and hello’s, and wants to understand his companion’s current situation. This is the hallmark trait of a person with their Venus in Scorpio. Furthermore, he also exhibits the mentality of wanting to always be in-the-loop of his loved ones’ lives, even if he’s dealing with his own problems at the same time. In his mind, your problem is also his problem, and he will not abandon you in your most trying times.
— This kind of closeness can sometimes be overwhelming for people who aren’t used to another person being very personal and up-close with their lives. But this is one of the way a Scorpio Venus shows their love, and this is very evident with how Sebastian is also helping the main character in their quest find out more about Ancient Magic in spite of drowning in his own research on Anne’s cure.
5. Leo Mars
— If Mars in Leo had a textbook example, Sebastian’s face would be on the cover. To name a few examples of how he exhibits some of the qualities this astrological placement has, let’s start with the fact that Mars is the planet responsible with body language. The way Sebastian was portrayed during his cutscenes and with his routine walks around the castle, he has a very confident gait and posture. He naturally carries himself with his own brand of masculinity; not aggressively so, but securely taking up appropriate space for himself.
— Another quality that people with Leo Mars has is that they are not afraid of being under the spotlight. They live up to people’s expectations of them, and they deliver a spectacular show of presence. In Sebastian’s case, he was one of the best duelists of Crossed Wands, and he doesn’t shy away from being the main character’s opponent during Defense Against the Dark Arts class.
— He is charismatic, ambitious, and playfully adventurous and competitive. Then again, Sebastian is shown to be stubborn, dramatic, and prone to anger. These are the characteristic manifestations of Mars in the sign of Leo.
(Not to mention that his favorite spells are fiery in nature!)
6. Sagittarius Rising
— A person’s ascendant has something to do with people’s first impressions of them. There are some astrological analysis of what Sebastian’s ascendant (or rising) sign would be. Majority of them are saying he has a Scorpio Rising. To have a Scorpio Rising, one has to have a demeanor of being unapproachable, have an air of enigma, and being quite intimidating. However, our first interaction and impression of Sebastian couldn’t be further from the truth. He is open, he is approachable, he is playful, and he is chatty. Ominis, on the other hand, has a Scorpio Rising for the same reasons I stated above for this sign.
— Therefore, Sebastian has a Sagittarius Rising. Traits of this sign include having a curious glint in their eyes, being quite effortlessly popular amongst his peers, charmingly clever, and has an intellectual brand of humor.
— Sagittarius is the sign of higher learning. If the main character was a Slytherin, the very first cutscene of Sebastian is with him pacing back and forth in front of the fireplace, with a massive book in his hand, and reading and learning what he can about his dilemma. That is a very obvious and blatant display of a first impression of a Sagittarius rising.
End Results:
Sebastian Sallow was born on September 15, 1874 at around 1:00PM, during the autumn season.
Of course, all of this is just my personal headcanon but I made sure to back them up with research and imbued them with my own astrological knowledge when it comes to matching his personality and his possible birth date.

III. Psychometric Analysis
NOTE: I will be linking the sites for these tests should you want to take them yourself! 😊 Have fun!
1. MBTI
— ENTP (Extrovert, Intuitive, Thinking, Perceiving)
"ENTP's are known for their rebellious streak. For this personality type, no belief is too sacred to be questioned, no idea is too fundamental to be scrutinized, and no rule is too important to be broken or at least thoroughly tested. This could make them seem overly cavalier or defiant, but at their core, their innate tendency to test boundaries has more to do with their desire for innovation and change."
Sebastian is, quite literally, the poster boy for ENTP. He embodies the trademark inquisitive nature of this type, and he has the signature charm to back it up as well. He isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty to understand a certain topic he zeroes in on, and he doesn’t shy away from topics that would be considered taboo. As a matter of fact, he thrives in the taboo. Sebastian doesn’t discriminate the information that comes his way; instead, he has his own mental compass and filter that systematizes the knowledge he comes to possess.
2. Enneagram
— Type 8 with wing 7; SX/SP (The Maverick)
“8w7 people are action-oriented and powerful people with a passion for pursuing new opportunities. They tend to be self-confident, sociable, pragmatic and comfortable with conflict. They’re ambitious and independent, preferring to follow their own path. They dream big and have the dedication to achieve their goals. They thrive in environments that encourage their idealism, while granting them the authority to make a difference. They don’t settle for anything; they always seek more. They are also strategic and tough if needed.”
True to the name of this particular Enneagram, Sebastian is known as a rebel and a maverick. He’s the kind of person that questions the rules and authority instead of following blindly. He has his own moral code that he abides to because he is secure in his ability to make the correct decisions, even if we know that he’s going down a dark path. As a rebel, he will stubbornly insist to everyone that his way is the right way because he has already examined the possible courses of action outside the constraints of authority.
This is why he ended up butting heads with Ominis (who thrives in his own systematic order). To Sebastian, no rule is too sacred to break. As long as he sees the alternative outcomes to a specific goal, he will march to the beat of his own drum.
3. Four Temperaments
— Choleric–Sanguine (The Executive)
"The Choleric-Sanguine has a natural drive to quickly get results. They are goal and bottom-line oriented, and can be very persuasive in promoting their ideas and goals. They are easily annoyed when others do not comply with their instructions or direction but it passes quickly; quickly aroused, easily calmed. They are not angry, although others may at times think they are furious. They are impatient and will push others to obtain results and be productive."
This is blend of Temperament fits Sebastian perfectly, especially towards the tail end of his plotline. It’s very evident is his voice lines that he isn’t afraid to push people to their limits and persuade others relentlessly. He jumps into the heat of the battle without much thought, and he expects people to follow suit. He doesn’t appreciate it when his close friends question his motives because that would be an insinuation that they don’t trust his judgments. He is quick on his feet and even quicker with executing alternate routes to get closer to his goals instead of wallowing in his failures.
—---—---—---—---—
IV. Corporeal Patronus
NOTE: An Animagus is a witch or wizard's animal representation of their basest instincts and behavior. A Patronus is an animal manifestation of what makes them happiest. While most people will have the same animal for their Animagus form and Patronus, it's not always the case. We know that a person's Patronus can change throughout their lifetime.
Tumblr media
Majority of people in the community have an unspoken agreement that Sebastian’s Animagus is a fox. By extension, his Patronus must take the corporeal form of a fox as well. However, I personally disagree with the definitions that I find in most sources. Therefore, I researched every possible Patronus result in the Wizarding World official test, and painstakingly reviewed their meanings using multiple sources. I have also enlisted the help of my cousin, who also completed her gameplay as a proud Hufflepuff, to determine which amongst all the extensive Patronus possibilities suit Sebastian the best. And after two hours of combing and debating through it, we have decided on the Buffalo.
This source defined this patronus as such:
Few possess just the right strength of character for their patronus to take the form of a buffalo. Those that do are dedicated individuals who are fiercely protective of those close to them, and not in a general way, either. Anyone foolish enough to attempt to harm another under a buffalo’s care is unlikely to come out unscathed. They are fighters, and it’s not uncommon for a buffalo to have their own personal code or way of acting to which normal morality simply doesn’t apply, which can be dangerous even for the buffalo. When all is well, they are placid but often outgoing, with strong personalities and who like having fun with those they bond to. However, going too long without contact with friends or family can lead to a buffalo feeling anxious or sad, and they will usually be at their best when sharing time with others. They are steadfast friends that enjoy being helpful and lending a hand to complete a task, or just making someone feel better. The buffalo is full of many feelings, the strong stature of them showing through a person in this way. They try to appear stoic, but it often backfires and they wear their hearts on their sleeves. They are passionate about everything they do and headstrong. They make sure their opinions are known by all that they concern, because they want to show that they are not weak. They feel as though their emotion and lack of control over it does in a way give them weakness, and it angers them greatly. They have strong tempers that are easy to lose.
A witch or a wizards Patronus has been proven to change over the span of their lifetime, and is influenced by major milestones such as marriage, relationships, or simply being influenced by your parent’s Patronus. However, based on the game material itself, a Buffalo Patronus fits Sebastian the best. Yes, he can still emulate the trickster and cunning nature of having a Fox Animagus. But based on his emotional state throughout the game, this animal’s spirit and its subsequent meaning perfectly reflects why he did the things he has done. He bulldozes his way through things without much contemplation, and he does wear his heart on his sleeves. Sebastian is the type to also care about the problems of his friends and loved ones personally, and will be their pillar of strength when needed.

V. Wand Analysis
Tumblr media
1. Wand Wood
Based on the physical characteristics of this wand and the meaning of the wood, it's highly possible that Sebastian's wand is made from Yew Wood.
According to the wand wood information:
"Yew wands are among the rarer kinds, and their ideal matches are likewise unusual, and occasionally notorious. The wand of yew is reputed to endow its possessor with the power of life and death, which might, of course, be said of all wands; and yet yew retains a particularly dark and fearsome reputation in the spheres of duelling and all curses. However, it is untrue to say (as those unlearned in wandlore often do) that those who use yew wands are more likely to be attracted to the Dark Arts than another. The witch or wizard best suited to a yew wand might equally prove a fierce protector of others. Wands hewn from these most long-lived trees have been found in the possession of heroes quite as often as of villains. Where wizards have been buried with wands of yew, the wand generally sprouts into a tree guarding the dead owner’s grave. What is certain, in my experience, is that the yew wand never chooses either a mediocre or a timid owner."
There have been a plethora of different wand woods that are actually suitable for Sebastian's magical disposition. Most people have hypothesized that his wand is made from Aspen due to its duelling nature. However, I have considered that Sebastian's duelling skills are not emphasized because of the wand he uses. It is through his innate magical skills and strength that made him an exceptional duellist.
I also do not see him joining a duelling club (Silver Spears) as a way to flaunt his wand and the exclusivity of what it entails. He was most likely recruited due to his consistent displays of sheer talent and capabilities in martial magic during classes. Sebastian doesn't seem to be the type to use a personal artifact to bolster his reputation. Rather, he utilizes everything he has with efficient resourcefulness to hone his abilities manually and with hard work. You can take his wand from him and provide him with another, and he'd still be formidable with it. That is the kind of witch or wizard Yew wands choose — just as it chose Tom Riddle and Ginny Weasley.
2. Wand Core
This one is easy to determine. Sebastian's wand is imbued with a core of Dragon Heartstring. According to Ollivander, this wand is powerful yet volatile at the wrong hands.
"As a rule, dragon heartstrings produce wands with the most power, and which are capable of the most flamboyant spells. Dragon wands tend to learn more quickly than other types. While they can change allegiance if won from their original master, they always bond strongly with the current owner. The dragon wand tends to be easiest to turn to the Dark Arts, though it will not incline that way of its own accord. It is also the most prone of the three cores to accidents, being somewhat temperamental."
With how quickly Sebastian reads and practices a lot of things in such a short period of time (and simultaneously juggling his studies along with it), it's safe to say that he is a quick learner. He easily absorbs what he reads and witnesses without trouble, and he is able to put into immediate use what he discovers just moments ago. It makes sense that he is paired with a wand with this kind of core, as he needs a magical conduit that doesn't hinder his fast progress.
Furthermore, it is a matter of fact that he truly is drawn towards the Dark Arts, and he was able to cast all the Unforgivable Curses without any error nor did he fumble with them. It takes a great amount of skill a wizard possesses in order to execute these highly complex, powerful, and very dark magic. This is something that a Dragon Heartstring wand core looks for in its owner; the innate drive and relentless energy to fulfill advanced forms of magic. Sebastian just so happens to tick all of those boxes seamlessly.
3. Wand Flexibility and Length
According to the official source:
"Wand flexibility or rigidity denotes the degree of adaptability and willingness to change possessed by the wand-and-owner pair."
Because of that, his wand's flexibility is most likely Hard. This source had explained it perfectly:
"A wand of this flexibility is very difficult to work with and its loyalty is not won easily. Hard wands are great for complex and advanced levels of magic, so beginning wizards and witches may find extra difficulty with this wand when it doesn't perform well for simple magic. As such, this type of wand is best suited for wizards and witches who are gifted, stubborn, and never give up. Owners of this wand also have a tendency to view things in absolutes; black or white. Some people may find them intimidating or difficult to approach."
Majority of Sebastian's wand analysis categorizes it as Unyielding. And while that was the initial decision in this post, I ultimately decided otherwise. With this flexibility, it really puts emphasis on his natural affinity for difficult spells and his tenacity to see through what he started. This kind of wand is not for the timid witch or wizard but someone who is comfortable being challenged time and time again. And of course, Sebastian sees a challenge as a test of his magical progress and curiosities.
As for the length of it, a standard 12 and 3/4 inches suits him just fine. He isn't too cocky about his skills but he also has confidence in himself to get things done.
End Results:
Yew Wood, Dragon Heartstring Core, Hard Flexibility, and 12 3/4 inches long! (It isn't a mystery that Confringo is one of his favorite spells!)
—---—---—---—---—
Honestly, this is a difficult one to finish. There wasn’t much to go on with, and every information here was based on very limited information. And most of my posts took a back burner because I feel like I needed to finish this one first. And I had this post sitting in my drafts for more than a year now!
Nevertheless, I am happy with what I produced, and this was given the same amount of thought as the one I had with Ominis. This one’s for all the Sebastian lovers! I hope this is up to par with other character analysis we already have in the fandom.

Hey drab! Idk who else to ask about this, but do you know what happened to Aucune Defense Pour Toi? I can't find it for some reason
Hey anon! Oh, I adore that fic! One of the first fleurmione fics I've read after I found Crazy Little Things by dreiser, which is a lunamione fic. So it's kind of one of the reasons why I grew to love fleurmione.
I don't know what happened to Acune Defense Pour Toi by D. Geheimnis. All I know is it isn't on AO3 anymore. It was either taken down by the author or marked as a private work. I can however, send some links to some crumbs I found online. Again, I have no idea why it was taken down on AO3. These are just the first few things that pop out of my google search after I tried looking for it. Here's what I found :)
ADPT by D. Geheimnis on fanfiction.net. This one is posted by D. Geheimnis so it's safe to assume this was the original post of ADPT on ff.net, published on 2008. However, I'm only able to access the first chapter. The page goes blank when I try to access the other chapters. The same goes for the comments/reviews or most of the clickable links here. This is some sort of archive website of fanfiction.net, I think. I found this D. Geheimnis on a different fanfiction.net with the same username, but ADPT wasn't under the list of works, so maybe it got removed there.
ADPT by D. Geheimnis on LiveJournal. I did some digging and found that this was the original post of ADPT by the author before they moved it to ff.net and then on to ao3. All 36 chapters can be found here. Chapter 1 was published on 2007, updated throughout 2007-2009. 'Chapter 27: The Portkey' is mislabeled as chapter 1 on the subject entries. I don't know if you know how to navigate LiveJournal, it's my first time on this site so it's a little tricky for me as well, but head over to the 'View All Archives' on the left side of the screen, and you should be able to view the chapters of ADPT there, based on the month + year the author posted it on, along with their other journal entries.
EPUB and MOBI of Aucune Defense Pour Toi. Reddit! This one was posted by reddit user reddog44mag as a comment on one of the r/HPfanfiction threads by user Jeffardi. I've tried it, and the link works. I'm not able to access the files on mobile (maybe that's just my phone. I'm on android.) so be sure to access the link on a PC first and download it on PC. You can then email yourself the EPUB or MOBI copy, open that email on your phone, and save the file on your phone or Kindle.
No Defense For You by dreiser on AO3, which shows some of Hermione's POV of Acune Defense Pour Toi. It's really good too, so I suggest giving it a read. There's a link in the notes to ADPT on fanfiction.net but as far as I know, that link isn't working.
Summary: It's the seventh year at Hogwarts and Hermione discovers she has no interest in boys, only in the new Professor for Defense Against the Dark Arts.
On D.Geheimnis' fanfiction.net account, there was a mention of an episode on Allaine's BlogTalkRadio show 'Femslash 4 Fans' where Aucune Defense Pour Toi and No Defense for You was discussed. I tried finding it but came up empty.
Hope this helps!

Puritanism is a hell of a drug.
And that is what you're looking at there. OP's act may be as much of a joke as they are, but even if this is an exaggerated parody the root phenomenon it may be trying to mock is very real, because puritanism isn't just for right-wingers anymore.
For a lot of people "problematic" is just the leftie version of "sinful." A lot of people don't see a problem with using censorship to attempt to control a populace, they just think they should be the censors in charge.
But these are not decisions made based on ethical reasoning. The fandom moralists wanting to judge people based on their media preferences and media diets never apply these kinds of standards universally.
If FNAF fans (as a random example) are beyond the pale because Scott Cawthon is a Christian weirdo who donates to republicans, then you've established a harm-threshold that demands a much wider, and much more blatantly bigoted, net than I think most people would be willing to engage with.
Cawthon has certainly caused harm (like any person donating to Trump), but the corpses under his Pizzaplex are all imaginary, unlike those under, say, schools run by the Catholic church.
In my opinion, persons who continue to willingly be Catholic knowing the kinds of abuses and abject slaughter the church continues to take in their name have crossed a far more precarious moral event horizon than the ones drawing fanart of Scott's animatronic murder-bear.
But we'd all look at someone with "Catholics DNI" in their profile and go "yeah, that's bigotry, saying that is fucked up."
There are points where fandom support can potentially cross into the legitimately problematic. Rowling is a leader in a hate-movement who spends much of her time actively pursuing harm for trans people. She uses her work as propaganda for her positions. Very normal ethical standards would put her in a 'do not support' category.
But I've also witnessed, on this website, someone upset that people still support Max Miller because Max Miller has remained friends with someone who streamed the Hogwarts game. As a cult survivor, that triggers a lot of warning bells.
Puritanism does not become good because it's wearing an inclusive flag on its t-shirt.
"dni if you engage with irredeemable media! dni to kill a mockingbird stans" ok well CLEARLY you have never read to kill a mockingbird if you think it's irredeemable media and also having a book that was published in 1960 on your dni stan list is kinda ridiculous actually

Out of the many artists that work in this studio, I managed to find some of them in order to see if I can find more about their workflow and study their techniques. One of the artists that I have found is Patrick Liow. He is one of the lead 3D modelers who have worked on the creatures from Diablo 4.

Now I'm a very anti-AI person, and I would love a way to easily make sure I don't support any AI content. However, please be really cautious and sceptical about using these types of AI dectector tools, as they are typically pretty innaccurate and from what I've heard can easily falsely flag genuine writing as AI.
Neurodivergent individuals are particularly prone to getting their writing falsely flagged as AI. I've seen instances online of autistic students talking about getting their genuine work/essays/etc flagged as AI and being unfairly penalised for it in school or college. And as an AuDHDer it's now become a nightmare scenario in my mind that someone could mistake my own writing as AI.
So I decided to test the detector mentioned above, zerogpt.com, myself and found the results not so clear cut. I tested multiple exerpts of writing that I know for a fact contain no AI content, because they were all taken from my own writing. Yes I'm putting myself on the line here, because hey since I'm also autistic and ADHD, maybe we can get an idea of how the creative writing of a neurodivergent fares in this detector, since I've heard so much about that whole issue. Plus, really the only way for me to 100% conclusively know that a piece of writing has no AI is if it's my own. I got results ranging mostly between 0% to 15%, but one exerpt of writing I put in even came out as 28.21%, which immediately made me feel the results from the above post might not be so clear cut, since I know for certain there is no AI generated content in any of the writing I put into it, unless we're counting using a spellchecker as AI generated content.
I then sadly broke my streak of having never used ChatGPT and asked it for some drarry fanfic, since I figured it would be good to test how the detector website does with some writing that is 100% definitely AI generated, rather than basing results on just speculation. I tested two pieces of fanfic provided directly by ChatGPT with no editing. Just direct copy paste. The first chapter it gave me came out as 74.59% and then I asked it to write me another chapter and that came out as 69.43%.
These results actually seem a lot more clear cut, although then I thought, well if someone's going to post an AI fic, presumably they might at least edit it a bit first to make it sound less obviously AI, since what ChatGPT gave me was kinda janky, and had some pretty obvious inconsistencies even if a lot of it sounded reasonably okay. So I decided to waste some time I should really be spending on my own writing, to try and edit the 74.59% one a bit to try and fix anything that felt really obviously off or had a weird flow to it or just didn't make sense. I figured this might give a more accurate read on what kind of percentage a work mostly based on AI generation, but at least edited somewhat, might get. After spending probably about half an hour editing the roughly 1500 word piece of ChatGPT generated fic, to fix the stuff that felt really obviously weird/AI generated to me. Rerunning it through the zerogpt detector, it still came out at 71.45%. To be fair there was deinfitely still stuff in the piece after I edited it that didn't feel quite right, but I really didn't want to waste that much of my time on this, when I've got other shit to be doing. I'm sure you could get that down further if you were to really extensively edit the piece, and spend hours rewriting and rewording it. But if you're going to put that much time and effort in, it doesn't even make much sense to me to use an AI generator in the first place. Like at that point it'd probably take about the same amount of time to just write the damn thing from scratch in the first place. Idk, I'm genuinely not very familiar with using these kind of AIs, so maybe there are better ways to word the prompt to get a more human-like result from the beginning. For reference I just put in "write a 2000 word drarry fan fiction, about harry potter returning to hogwarts for 8th year".
In conclusion, based on my own experimentation, I personally wouldn't trust any result below around 40-50% (at least from this specific AI detector), as actual evidence of AI use, unless I had some other compeling evidence to suggest that was the case. I don't know what fics were used in the two example screenshots above for suspicious fics, but for me personally, there'd have to be some extremely good reason to be suspecting AI use to count an 18% or even the 36% as any type of actual proof. I'd say maybe over 50% I might start to assume AI use is likely, but even then I'd take it with a grain of salt, just in case.
Because while it was mentioned in the post above that this isn't a case of instigating witch-hunts, I can see how this could easily turn into that real quick. And it's likely most of the victims would be neurodivergent peeps, which I could see ending up being kind of ableist and exclusionary, which just makes me feel icky and I want no part of that.
For me personally, I'd only consider even bothering to check a work from AO3 in this AI detector if I already felt like it sounded weird and AI-like. And honestly even then, I probably still wouldn't bother with the detector and instead would just exit out of the fic, since presumably if I feel like it sounds weirdly written and like it might be AI, I'm not enjoying it anyway.
Anyway I think I've spent at least 2-3 hours now what with researching and testing and experimenting with this whole thing. So I really need to stop and go work on my actual project I'm supposed to be working on right now, even though it could be interesting to see how some other detectors fair compared to this one. But anyway, hopefully this is useful to someone!
About AI writing
After reading this post by @drarryspecificrecsdaily, I've realised that there might be more fics AI written than I thought.
I'm vehemently opposed to this fake stuff.
And it turns out I've already read an AI fic... A drarry…
In my personal notes, I noted that it was well written, very academic, but that unfortunately it quickly became too fluffy, too mawkish and that it was as if Harry and Draco (Hogwarts teachers) were the only characters in the castle. I flew through the whole of the second half.
So I'm quite happy that my instincts weren't wrong.
I compared the alleged AI fics with a few that I love. I use zerogpt.com.
The verdict is pretty clear-cut, even if you can only analyse 15,000 characters for free.
Suspicious fics :
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Fics that I know for a fact are written by their authors :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So from now on, for recent fics, I'll be systematically checking. It's not a question of fomenting witch-hunts, but of favouring real authors.
I don't castigate carp-mouthed selfies ig hollow influencers in order to support with my clicks their ao3 equivalents.

Drumroll Please
I have recently come to the decision to share more of my fan fiction on Tumblr, hence this shiny new sideblog to collect all assorted snippets, first chapters, new ideas, so on and so forth. First order of business will be laying out all the fandoms I post for over on my AO3, and putting together a Masterlist with links to each “what if” series. My other blogs here include @triscribe for Shenanigans, @birdsandbatsofgotham for all the DC art/writings I stumble across, and @storiesfromthescribe where I only talk about my original projects.
Featured tags here will henceforth include:
-westeros (my catch-all tag for the various GoT and HotD stories that have begun circling my mind as of summer 2024. Some inspired by other fics, some entirely of my own creation, but there are so many little twists and turns and trails not taken that could’ve sent canon in wildly new directions) The Pack Thrives
-pjo (new as of 2024, I finally watched the new series and guys. GUYS. I love it so much. And I love even more that it’s inspired me to write more in a week than the past two months) The Trade AU
-star wars (originals, prequels, sometimes sequels, plus a wide swath of cartoon show characters and occasionally a reference to the live action ones too) Main Series: What-If AUs and Vod’e An and Visions
-marvel (I am first and foremost a Spidey fan, so he’s usually the one getting tossed into shenanigans with a healthy dose of GotG on the side) Avengers Nonsense Starring Spider-Man and Guardians Shenanigans
-dc (listen. LISTEN. I haven’t touched any comic to have come out in the last decade, but I would never have become a fandom person if not for the Bats, so I will make new AUs based off of their familial nonsense until the day I die) Canon? What Canon? Batfam Stories  and YJ AU Assortment
-hogwarts (for all things Harry Potter, because She Who Shall Not Be Named created a great sandbox that I still love to grab and run with, usually down a road called Total Disregard of the Author) Main Series: Alternate Living Arrangements
-transformers (I’ve got knowledge from half a dozen different continuities and I am not afraid to assemble my favorite pieces into a whole new amalgamation of adventure) (catch-all series to be determined) Cliff and the Kid
-alta (I can remember blowing off a friend’s slumber party to watch The Boy in The Iceberg when it premiered, okay? My fan fic ideas for this show are not a recent development, but actually writing the dang things down and posting them is new and comes in fits and spurts) Avatar AUs
-bnha (My Hero Academia was a bit of an accidental fandom, honestly, but for a year or so it was just about the only thing I wrote for, and there’s a heap of fic on my AO3 account to reflect that) Wild Cards and Something Strange Hit Me and my Doubles AU
-misc (the catch-all, the extraneous, the fandoms I really only dabble with, hence adding an extra tag to keep them all bunched together for quicker identification) Featuring: Back Again (Merlin) and Smallest, Smartest, Youngest (Voltron) and Got to Be Joking (Ranger’s Apprentice)
-originals (which won’t appear here all that often, but since I *do* have a few pieces of my own worldbuilding creations available to read...) Scribe Sampler and The Understudy Project
Alrighty, last couple of links to other websites: Tri on Instagram, where I occasionally post my art of various fandom and canon characters Ko-fi, where one could commission a speedier update to one of my fan fiction stories they particularly love or purchase a signed copy of my self-published novel And as of March 2023, I’ve also got a brand new Patreon account, where the first pieces of big WIPs go up, and you can read the first chapter of my book Wolfen’s Rage for free.
Now then. Who’s ready to read?

Oooh I can definitely shed some light regarding the game as a fellow Dragon Age fan.
So if you played Dragon Age Inquisition and were able to figure out Solas was sus and potentially a future villain before you even hit Skyhold, then you would have been able to figure out the ending “twist” in Hogwarts Legacy. Because I saw both within the first five hours of playing. The main story beats are very obvious just like in Dragon Age.
There isn’t much choice in the dialogue throughout the game. It is very basic but it is definitely made to be like “first choice based story rpg” for “normies”. The choices don’t have a huge impact, it just colors how your character sounds/behaves in cut scenes. Think of it like Hawke’s red and blue dialogue option and that’s it. And the companions, they’re just companions you do quests with related to them, they don’t come with you everywhere. There’s no party and no banter between them. And there is a very obvious “loneliness” because of it. The main character even mentions a few times “I wonder what X would say about this” or “sure would have been nice to have an audience” and it feels like they had planned there to be a party system but cut it, so I dunno. But it definitely suffers for it.
There’s no romance, which tbh doesn’t mean people aren’t going nuts over certain characters. The current fandom darlings are Sebastian Sallow and Ominis Gaunt. There’s just no fighting about characters (yet). (Though I did spot someone trying to start up drama about the age of the characters, but people largely ignored them.)
The story itself isn’t like crazy amazing tbh. It’s just a good story, predictable to me but still a good story.
The gameplay is very easy. The only difficulties I had initially is that I’m normally a hack and slash, usually warrior or dps close range rogue, and the wand fights are very medium to long range sort of fighting. So if you’re used to playing a mage or an archer in rpg you’ll be fine. But once you switch there, it’s basically smooth sailing. The enemies aren’t difficult. And the “bosses” that are, you can just liberally dodge roll around most attacks and you’ll be fine.
There are a fuck ton of mini games and puzzles. Almost too many, tbh, but they’re interesting. Except the ones that repeat far too many but those ones are to encourage exploring the map.
The thing that really shines in the game is really the environment. The added lore because of the environment. It’s rich and detailed. Especially Hogwarts. It’s ornate with hundreds of tiny little animations that add a lot. This is definitely a game made to look pretty and to be a love letter to super HP fans who remember super tiny details from the books and from supplemental canon like the Wizarding world website.
Overall the game does NOT deserve the hype it has. It doesn’t do anything new or amazing. It is just a good game and with no game breaking bugs. The only bugs it did have were all visual and usually funny to see because you had to think, is that meant to happen because magic or is that actually a bug? Which tbh, in our current landscape of over advertised games that get released with game breaking bugs (looking at cyberpunk 2077 and fallout 76) probably is what makes it worth the hype.
Personally, as a gamer, I think it is truly overblown only because it caters to the lowest common denominator while also throwing in a lot of Easter eggs for the HP super fans.
Those 9/10 scores should really be 8/10, maybe 7/10 if people didn’t think that 7/10 rating meant the game is a buggy disaster.
im not going to play it bc honestly i sincerely don’t care to regardless of politics, but i am curious if hogwarts legacy is actually truly a good game or if it’s getting so much attention by virtue of harry potter fandom is big + a lot of people are probably playing it that don’t normally play high budget long form games + some people like stirring the pot on the controversy
bc I think about my beloved RPGs like dragon age and baldur’s gate and all these games with rich story and lore and characters and lots of origins and usually your choices can change the endings at least somewhat and there are at least a few romances that get people rabid and i haven’t heard anything like that about HP? like, i see zero actual hype for the content even among fans of it, and i think it might just be so well-regarded by “normies” because they literally don’t know that games in general are just a really good medium for adventure and story telling and this game probably isn’t uniquely good?
humble bundle should release a pack that’s a few top RPGs and a lot of stuff from trans creators and/or with great trans representation as well so that we can intro these poor non-gamers into the world of what rpgs can really bring to their life

About Remadora
When I say I really hate the HP fandom, I'm talking about the "fans" that hate everything about the saga, but still having Harry Potter accounts. They change the original story, claim that fanonical facts are canon, and launch hatred and death threats at those who simply like HARRY POTTER JUST THE WAY IT IS. Yes, I'm mostly talking about Marauders fans, which I joined after reading the books because I thought it would be interesting and funny. I suddenly realized how toxic and hateful that fandom was, it's like a cult dedicated to deifying Remus, Sirius, James and Regulus, and it seems that hating Snape, Dumbledore, and Remadora is a requirement to be a part of it.
At the beginning I used to consider Wolfstar as something funny, a bromance, it never bothered me, I mean... every fandom has fanon ships and I respect that, but the way they always hate Remadora and their shippers is something that MUST stop.
"You see!" said a strained voice. Tonks was glaring at Lupin. "She still wants to marry him, even though he's been bitten! She doesn't care!"
"It's different," said Lupin, barely moving his lips and looking suddenly tense. "Bill will not be a full werewolf. The cases are completely -"
"But I don't care either, I don't care!" said Tonks, seizing the front ofLupin's robes and shaking them. "I've told you a million times. . . ." And the meaning of Tonks's Patronus and her mouse-colored hair, and the reason she had come running to find Dumbledore when she had heard a rumor someone had been attacked by Greyback, all suddenly became clear to Harry; it had not been Sirius that Tonks had fallen in love with after all."
"And I've told you a million times," said Lupin, refusing to meet her eyes, staring at the floor, "that I am too old for you, too poor . . . too dangerous. . ."
When I read this part of the HBP I realized that Remadora was my favorite Harry Potter ship. Of course I wasn't aware of the death threats I'd receive later. I've read some "reasons" why some fans hate Remadora.
"Tonks forced him!"
We all know how insecure Remus was. I don't have to explain what's written in Wizarding World (Pottermore). This is the Remus bio:
Well, we can read that Remus was really attracted to Dora.
"Remus, so often melancholy and lonely, was first amused, then impressed, then seriously smitten by the young witch. He had never fallen in love before. If it had happened in peacetime, Remus would have simply taken himself off to a new place and a new job, so that he did not have to endure the pain of watching Tonks fall in love with a handsome, young wizard in the Auror office, which was what he expected to happen. However, this was war; they were both needed in the Order of the Phoenix, and nobody knew what the next day would bring. Remus felt justified in remaining exactly where he was, keeping his feelings to himself but secretly rejoicing every time somebody paired him with Tonks on some overnight mission".
This is so sad and cute, and that's undeniable. I cried when I read it. If someone still thinking that Dora forced Remus to marry her after reading this paragraph... I mean... they're probably talking about another book series.
"The age gap!"
I'm so satisfied to know that some Remadora shippers have explained this. When it's about a kid and an adult... OF COURSE IS HORRENDOUS! Because children are not physically and mentally prepared to have romantic relationships. Wizards are legally adults at 17, REMUS MET TONKS WHEN SHE WAS 21!
I mean, many old people abuses of young people innocence, or something. But we all know that Remus wasn't one of those! He really loved Tonks, and that's canon. I don't know what's doing in the fandom people who denies canon facts.
Remus and Tonks were two physically, mentally, and legally adults loving each other.
"Remus didn't love her!"
He was an introvert, Tonks was an extrovert, she made his life better. And of course, I loved the way he introduced himself when he was trying to prove he wasn't a Death Eater:
"I am Remus John Lupin, werewolf, sometimes known as Moony, one of the four creators of the Marauder's Map, married to Nymphadora, usually known as Tonks, and I taught you how to produce a Patronus, Harry, which takes the form of a stag." (Remus Lupin, DH)
Maybe I'm not the only one who perceive he was proud to be Nymphadora Tonks husband.
"I.. I made a grave mistake in marrying Tonks. I did it against my better judgment and have regretted it very much every since". (Remus Lupin, DH)
This phrase makes more sense after reading Remus bio. He used to think that he was "too poor, too dangerous" for her. He thought he wasn't enough for her. He never imagined that she would love him back. He was a werewolf, and of course he knew he was dangerous, you only need to be emphatic to realize he tried to get away from Tonks because he loved her, he didn't want to hurt his beloved woman!
If you don't believe me, read this again. It's in the chapter 11 of Deathly Hallows:
"Don't you understand what I've done to my wife and my unborn child? I should never have married her, I've made her an outcast!"
So, if Remus was trying to escape it's because he loved them, he thought he spoiled their lives. And of course, no one likes to feel that their influence is bad for someone they love!
"Their relationship came from nowhere! They don't have a development"
Well, the saga's name is HARRY POTTER, not The Love Life of Remus Lupin. The story is about the tragic life of this kid and everything he went through to save the world of a cruel and dark villain. I know many readers are young people in love, and they only want to ship everything, but that's not the main topic here, maybe mother's love would be the topic. Of course Ron and Hermione had a development because they were HARRY'S BEST FRIENDS, and they were always with him, from Philosopher's Stone to Cursed Child. Remus and Tonks are minor characters, and it's funny the fact that this usually comes from Wolfstar shippers, so... is Wolfstar more developed than Remadora?! I mean... they can ship whatever they want, Snape and the Sorting Hat, Dobby and Voldemort, anything, but that does not give them the right to disrespect such a cute, tragic and beautiful canon ship as Remadora.
"They are queercoded! Their relationship is homophobic!"
It's surprising to hear this. It's like... people gets angry just because the author doesn't make queer their favourite characters? I will explain why I don't think Remus and Tonks are "queercoded":
Whether through their dress, their behavior, their language, or other subtle forms of implication, queer characters were written or designed to communicate their unstated queerness to those who were searching for representation.
And this is the definition on the website Pride.com:
"Using LGBTQIA tropes and stereotypes to allude to a character's sexuality without explicitly confirming it in the text."
We all know that Disney used queercoding on characters like Ursula, Scar, Jaffar. And why do we know that? Because DISNEY WANTED TO PORTRAY THEM LIKE THAT, get it? Disney, THE CREATORS MADE THESE CHARACTERS INTENTIONALLY QUEER. How? BASED ON STEREOTYPES.
And going back to Remadora, I was really happy to see by first time a bada*ass woman, with short hair who wasn't portrayed as a lesbian just because the way she looks. This character didn't follow the: "Straight women have long hair and are girly", and "short dyied hair is for lesbians". I'm very very very surprised the fandom follows these stereotypes.
About Remus: I don't know how the phrase "being a werewolf is a metaphor about people with HIV AIDS" means "he's gay". Fenrir Greyback bit him when he was a kid. Many people interpret this as "r4pe". Okay, even thinking that it is the meaning of the "bite", I still cannot understand how being "r4ped" and "infected" makes him queer. Is this (again) a stereotype about people with AIDS and gay?
"JK Rowling created Remadora because she didn't like people shipping Wolfstar!"
It is true that fans love shipping everything, they queerbait and queercode everything. That's great, that's not the problem. The problem is when people starts bashing fans who ship canon straight couples. A very good example is the polemic on Falcon and Bucky relationship, some fans wanted them to be a gay couple, Anthony Mackie said that two men can only be friends, and there is no need to always give them a romantic connotation. People cancelled him, they called him homophobic. Yes, just because a person with authority (on the story they're following") didn't like the fact of queercoding their favourite characters. It's the same about Remadora.
Grindeldore is a very interesting and underrated couple by the way. You can love or hate JK Rowling, but the truth is that Harry Potter story is hers, and even if Remadora was "because she didn't like Wolfstar", she is the author, it was her mind where these characters first appeared, as a big Harry Potter fan I respect and like the original story, that's not a sin. An author has the right to make some changes if some characters were misunderstood by the readers.
(Yes, I wrote this a bit angrily since I've seen too much hate towards Remadora shippers)

HP Fan Fiction and its Restrictions
While many, such as myself, use this website to share and express different ideas in regards to the Harry Potter fan fiction subculture, it is also pivotal to understand the restrictions that come alongside it. I use this website to read the countless amount of fan fictions that the fandom has to offer, and like many others, I also share and repost the ones that I find the most touching and even some works of my own. Although there is nothing wrong in doing so, this community should understand that there are certain guidelines that are unspoken of that should be followed regardless of the niche community we are all involved in.
The writers of the numerous fan fictions published and shared through this forum should acknowledge that their works are purely based off of the love of the Harry Potter franchise, and not in any way a form of a money grab through monetization. While I and many others who intake this form of fan fiction through this media understand that it is purely for entertainment value, we all have to abide by the certain rules set in place and respect J.K Rowlings request to not monetize fan fiction works and those that are outside of the Harry Potter world outside of her own writing.
We also need to acknowledge and be wary of the usage of tags and trigger warnings that certain works have. As we are all familiar with smut and lemon, known to those outside of the fan fiction realm as erotica, we also need to make sure that works containing explicit content be rightfully labelled as such. There are many people apart of the fandom who are underage, and it is the responsibility of the writers of fan fiction and those who share and repost to give warnings of such explicit material. Although Tumblr is filled with explicit content that should not be viewed by underage users, we as a collective should do our part in ensuring that the Harry Potter fan fiction posted through Tumblr have the correct tags and warnings to ensure we keep those on this forum safe.
Within the smut written in the fan fiction, writers need to ensure that when writing about the Harry Potter characters, that they are at the very least aged up. Most of the fan fiction here is written about Harry, Hermione, Ron, Draco, Ginny, Luna, who were all underage throughout the seven books. Writers need to keep this in mind and not write any smut when the characters were underage, as that is completely inappropriate considering that they are all children. If a writer wants to write smut involving those characters, there needs to be a time skip set where the events occur after the Battle of Hogwarts and when the characters are no longer attending Hogwarts. This is vital in retaining respect and decency, as it not only sets a standard for the Harry Potter fandom, but those outside of it when it comes to erotic works such as fan fiction.
Overall, this community is a positive one that has only grown throughout the years, but within every community there will always be negative attributes. As Harry Potter fans we need to maintain certain guidelines to continue to be a safe and welcoming community, where we can all collectively enjoy the franchise and the fan fiction written about our favorite book series. Let's all continue to read and intake the beautiful works shared and written through Tumblr, in a safe collective manner, as we strive to make this fandom an even more beautiful and accepting community. Thank you guys for allowing me to share my opinions, don’t be afraid to share yours as well and let me know what you think about this blog on the comments below! And don’t forget, stay magical. °* ੈ‧₊˚ଘ(੭ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ✩‧₊☽
“Whether you come back by page or by the big screen, Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.” - J.K Rowling

Eat the Rich: Classism in the UK Entertainment Industry
Ohnotheydidnt Jan. 2020: To take you back a few years ago, right when HP was coming to an end, there was HP Blue-ray bonus documentary where Emma claimed to have come from a poor family. How she got pencils as gifts for her bday and how her dad didn’t afford to send her to the school she went to. This post is a great addition to posts I’ve made a few years ago about how Emma wasn’t actually poor growing up. You can find the posts here.
# TimesYa Grammar Kween Emmione Granger has come a long way since her # HeForShe days, taking the criticisms levelled towards her white feminism to heart and upping her activist game. Since that B.A. in English lit from Brown has gotta go somewhere, one only has to look as far as her Twitter and Instagram feeds (I appreciate that she at least uses her massive platform to lend exposure to women of colour, Ireland’s abortion rights, workplace harassment and from someone who has struggled brutally with gender dysphoria, trans visibility—no sarcasm there). Though once upon a time, Justin Bieber’s Disney Doll was under the impression that she could persuade her legion of fans she enjoyed an ordinary upbringing. Notably, in 2009/10 during a set interview for Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (included in the four-disk Blu-Ray bonus documentary When Harry Left Hogwarts) she presented herself in a vulnerable light, stating that when her parents divorced when she was five years old her financial situation was “tight” (transcribed in the gifs below because the doc is no longer on YouTube, boo!).
Tumblr media
YUUUSSS KWEEEN! Hermione is an ONTD member like the rest of us! Or *dot dot dot* is she? While her words sound inspiring and classy at face value and being the cute bae that she is she doesn’t deny she was well-educated, what is missing from her version of the tale and her carefully manufactured image, however, is that both the good sis’ parents are lawyers. From around 1995/96 until 2003, she attended the co-educational pre-prep and prep day and boarding institution, Lynams nursery and the Dragon School in Oxford (Tom Hiddlebum and his one shirt was also a pupil). The fees [applied to 2019/20] eat up as much as £31,686 for boarders and £21,768 for day pupils each schoolyear (there are three academic terms in British schooling). Circa 1999-2000, Emma was also a pupil at the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School Oxford Headington, a franchise part-time theatre school (about ten minutes away from the Dragon). According to their website, “The cost per term for Early Stages is £168 and for Main Stages it is £336.” This is simply a luxury skint kids cannot receive without a grant or hardship fund and based on one version of events Emma has told us, it was while she was in attendance at Stagecoach when she was spotted (along with other potentials) by the Potter casting team for the role of Hermione. (I also discovered through related Google searches that some other minor actors from the Potter series, particularly Daniel Radcliffe’s “son” Albus Potter and “mother” Little Lily Potter went to the Dragon School and Stagecoach in Oxford, respectively. “Lily” was even taught by Emma’s former drama teacher and principal, Maya Sprigg—which tells me this woman’s hustle is not a coincidence.) From there, Emma attended Headington until the age of 18, an independent girls’ day and boarding school. The admission fees for Upper 3-5 and Sixth Form day pupils [applied to 2019/20] is £6,090 per term (£18,270 a year); full boarders pay up to £36,630 a year. Last year, the cost for day pupils was £5,884 per term (£17.5k/yr.). In 2016 before the UK referendum, fees for boarders were roughly £28k a year. As for her parents’ professions, her father Chris Watson is Head of the CMS Technology, Media and Communications Group (he has a M.A. from the New College, Oxford). We also know from a December 2010 British Vogue interview that he owns a vineyard in France where Emma spent the summers as a child. Her mother Jacqueline “Jackie” (nee Luesby) joined the Smith & Williamson financial services firm in 2007 as a senior manager for their tax team in London (she previously worked for Morgan Cole, a commercial law firm in Oxford and from circa 1990-95 the tax team Ernst & Young, an accounting firm in Paris, Emma’s birthplace). In a September 2015 British Vogue interview, Emma confirmed her parents worked full-time: “My parents couldn’t take the time off; they had careers and they weren’t together. They couldn’t swap in and out like Rubert Grint’s [sic] and Dan Radcliff’s [sic] parents.” Emphasis on careers, not occupations.
My basic bitch research skills are unable to track down the estimated salaries of her parents’ positions, but the Great British Class Survey classifies lawyers (including telecommunication lawyers and solicitors) as “elite” and the average household income is placed at £89,000 a year. Me thinks her parents weren’t blowing through £89k on pasta, toast and beans. Post-Potter, Emma pulled in $3 to $15 million for 2017’s Beauty and the Beast (obviously, this was a decade ago, but in 2010 she was making around $32 million). In 2018, she donated £1 million ($1.4 million) to Justice and Equality, an anti-sexual harassment fund (disappointing however, the superior Emma Thompson only donated £500, GIRL?!). Guess she figured she should finally throw away pennies of that Potter money from her offshore accounts (‘cause you can’t take it with it you)? In 2019, her estimated net worth is $80 million (about £60.9 million). Before Hermione blessed her with bad hair, Emma was already the slaying Speak & Spell singing Disney princess we deserved. Although, it seems she has since educated herself and changed her tune. In 2018, she introduced Reni Eddo-Lodge’s Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race for her Goodreads book club, writing: “When I heard myself being called a ‘white feminist’ I didn’t understand. […] It would have been more useful to spend the time asking myself questions like: What are the ways I have benefited from being white? In what ways do I support and uphold a system that is structurally racist? How do my race, class and gender affect my perspective?” No one needs to award her brownie points and even if I (along with most of ONTD) am not fond of her tightly controlled PR image, it’s one step towards acknowledging she’s part of a structural, systematic problem and it’s more than what most privileged celebs are willing to do when called out. On the other hand, homegirl needs to be educated on tax evasion. In the meantime, the Oatmeal Queen is living her best life with her Pop Rocks.

Slytherin
So I am not a huge Harry Potter fan, but my roommate is. She asked me to take the sorting hat quiz to figure out what house I was. I got Slytherin, and I know enough to associate that house with like the evil antagonists. But I knew there wasn’t a whole house in Hogwarts that was destined to be evil, so I decided to read up on my new house on this Harry Potter fandom website.
Tumblr media
So first off, each house is founded on the basis of a couple of characteristics that the founders of each house valued most. The characteristics for Slytherins are cunningness, resourcefulness, leadership, and ambition. Just seeing this list, I can imagine why they tend to be seen as the villains. I feel this specific mixture of characteristics can easily lead to some power hungry wizards, but on their own these traits are pretty admirable. Like imagine the leader of your group (in a work or friend setting), would you not want them to be ambitious and resourceful? What sort of tripped me up was that this house is more selective for purebloods. It kind of sounds sus because any other regime that had like pureblood favoritism didn’t turn out so well. Honestly, this second tidbit confused me. I feel like valuing cunningness and resourcefulness correlates to scrappiness. I feel that a muggleborn that gets into the school and survives through quick thinking and ambition would be highly valued in the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The animal that represents the house is the snake, which once again denotes evil in our Judeo-Christian centered culture. I think JK Rowling just really wanted Slytherin house to be associated with evil. That’s so sad to me. Like imagine being a whole ass wizard, going to a MAGIC school, and then being labeled as evil just because you are ambitious. I would feel so cheated. Anyways, the house colors are green and silver. I do not approve of those colors at all. First off, green has so many different shades and only 3 or 4 are cute. I’m sure they don’t mean pastel green, so I am assuming a deep emerald is the only option. Putting that shade of emerald on clothes and stickers are so difficult, so I can only sympathize with those poor students. Don’t get me started on silver. If it doesn’t shine it just looks really dull or like a messed up gray. I do think snakes can actually be very cute, but those colors are rough.
Tumblr media
I also read that Slytherin corresponds with the element of water because serpents are often associated with water. Plus snakes are physically very fluid and flexible, which match the flow of water. I think the colors also relate to this element, but I don’t associate green or silver with water. I really love this aspect of the house; I think it’s so beautiful. I think water can be so diverse; beautiful, scary, calm, rough, etc.
I do think that a bright and lighter aesthetic could really change Slytherin image. For me, I really enjoy pastels and girly looks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But on tik tok there are like styles based on the Harry Potter houses, and Slytherins always look so badass. Maybe I will channel my badassery once I finally watch all the movies with my roommate. I think then I will have a deeper understanding of what being in this house means.

I don't know if you've heard of Hogwarts io (thread-style harry potter oc roleplaying site) but seeing you talk about hp fans on reminded me of the absolutely RANCID experience I've had with ppl on there. First off the mods are literal shit lmao they kick and ban ppl based on personal prejudice or for literally no reason at all. The community itself is both transphobic and homophobic, both in character and OOC. I'm nb and ppl refused to use my pronouns and refered to me as my ocs pronouns-
same hio anon- I talked about wanting to have my oc be bi and SO many ppl shat on that, like blantantly told me no or said it was gross. A trans friend of mine got bullied off of the website for having neopronouns (xe/him) bc ppl in the discord were calling xem mogai trash, fairy, etc, I've been told to not talk abt being a lesbian bc it made other members uncomfy, there's a whole lot it's a huge mess man
I haven’t heard of this site, but I’m so sorry that happened to you and your friend. That place sounds like a cesspit
