A Serendipitous Encounter: Unraveling the Sacredness of Cows
Living in the captivating Pink City of India has granted me the privilege of witnessing its unique blend of culture and heritage. Recently, I had a delightful encounter with a curious foreign traveler who had come to explore the pink romantic hue of this vibrant city.
As destiny would have it, our encounter took place in a serene gaushala, where she was engrossed in the act of tenderly feeding the resident cows. Curiosity sparked between us, leading to a profound question that she posed: "In India, cows are worshipped! Why?" This unexpected query became the catalyst for an enlightening discussion, delving into the rich cultural tapestry that surrounds the veneration of cows in this diverse nation.
During that time, delving into the intricate details of history and explaining the primary factors behind the esteemed position of cows in India, which is deeply rooted in their association with Hinduism, seemed overwhelming. Hence, I made a conscious decision to simplify and condense the information, making it more accessible and comprehensible for a foreigner who lives seven ocean away. To ensures that the essence of the topic is conveyed effectively, allowing for a better understanding of the significance attached to cows in Indian culture.
So i told her that the person who gave you life, i.e., your mother, was the one to give you milk first. Therefore mothers are worshipped. After the mother, people drink milk from the cow. You wouldn't take milk from your mother and kill her. Similarly, you don't take milk from the cow and kill her after.
This encounter served as a poignant reminder that even in the bustling Pink City, where tradition meets modernity, age-old customs continue to thrive, reflecting the deep-rooted values that define this nation.
