a question to anyone out there who is pursuing or currently has a phd in history: is it worth it and can you find a decent academic job with it? i’ve realized for years now that history is my biggest passion and being a history professor is my absolute dream. i do have other interests but they do not equate to how much i love history. i’ve began to doubt getting a phd after undergrad as i’ve seen numerous horror stories of ppl with a phd regretting or not being able to find a job or having to live out of their car. it hurts to think my dream is unattainable. i don’t want a lot of money as long as im doing something i love and can live off of it.

Hello! I'm GG (27, sí/í, she/her) 💖

I used to be a regular user of Tumblr, then shifted to twitter years ago, and now we all know how that's gone, so I've joined Tumblr again. I thought I'd include a bit about me so people can maybe let me know if they think we should be mutuals 🥰

I'm a PhD history candidate (viva/defence is on the 7th December), with my PhD being on the history of vasectomy in Britain. I also teach histories of medicine, gender, Britain, and other related topics.

Outside of my PhD, I work in public libraries, and love all things literature and community access.

I live with my 2 partners, 2 stepkids, 3 dogs, and 3 guinea pigs. As a bi, polyam person in a throuple, I care a lot about queer rights, family law, and stuff related to that.

I craft a lot, mainly sewing and knitting, but also other making-related things.

We need more weird historian rep in Doctor Who. The companions are too normal when faced with the prospect of time travel. I want a companion who makes a list of super specific historical destinations related to their dissertation. I want somebody whose first reaction to finding out that the Doctor is a time travelling alien is to create a Microsoft Word document and ask, “What caused the Late Bronze Age collapse?”
