Anime Feminist’s Recommendation Backlog: Girls in Strange Worlds

Anime Feminist has been in operation since Fall 2016, which means eight years! We’ve written about hundreds of shows, and recommended plenty of them, and as the years go on it’s easy for some of the smaller titles to get lost in the shuffle. That’s why we decided to try out a “backlog” series. People are getting into anime for the first time or coming back to it from a long time away all the time, after all!

When putting together this list, we placed the cutoff at the end of 2020, just to really let comparatively older titles shine. Plus, it leaves some options on the table if decide to circle back to this topic in a few years! We also didn’t include any titles that are already on our pinned recommendation lists.

Let the world know, btw, that i did not even realise hisomaso was a vore anime because honestly i dont give 2 shits abt vore and i just found it cool that the dragons ate the people and they piloted them!! It was cool and it flew over my head all the beautifully animated dragon insides squeezing the girls was in fact a fetish thing

Like if I had researched Hisone to Masotan even in the slightest before watching I would have been completely put off by it and not even give it a second chance and just overlooked it altogether because while it is technically mecha/military the "mechs" in question are live dragons that they actually get inside to pilot and you can really tell both the animators' hands were busy when animating this show because the dragon innards are LAVISHLY detailed, they spared no expense, but it's a legit amazing show with great art and great characters and great story; it's an all-around memorable and fun watch!

It also just happens to be a vore fetish anime just a little bit, just a slight huge amount lmao

But it was legitimately great! Glad I watched it!

Dragons are extraordinarily good mimics, escaping human predation by disguising themselves as common airliners, some even going so far as to sport crude copies of carrier logos. This makes them difficult to track, though most sources agree that the dragon population is critically endangered.

While there has been some success with halting large-scale dragon hunting, conservationists are still concerned about a recent spate of crashes in otherwise healthy adults.

Given that dragons communicate via radio signals and that most crashes occur near military radar stations, it is theorized that the radar may be disorienting the dragons. Investigations are still ongoing.

Its been a bit, but anyone else particularly unsatisfied with the way Dragon Pilot ended? Like, I get that I was probably imagining a lot more of the themes I was enjoying than were strictly, textual supported, but after a full series of watching Amakasu try to find her way and make friends in a setting where she is harassed and forced to jump at arbitrary expectations and told what she can and can't do with herself, let's just say "I know who I am now, I'm a loyal member of the armed forces and I will do my duty for my country" left a really random taste in my mouth... I couldn't be more surprised if a shounen fighting anime ended with a speech by the main character about the importance of compromising on your values. It's just not supported by the rest of what the story was building up...

And I was *really* enjoying that story, too, no matter how much of it was in my head. Plus it was cute, gorgeous, and funny at the same time.
