3/5 of the ‘successful’ boy band
#i don’t have names for these two yet#they are in their casual everyday clothing as I haven’t designed their boy band outfits#I’m still trying to design the other two members but I’m struggling ;-;#for Billy’s outfit I wanted to draw him in the clothing he wore when he was young and include the well known jacket he always wears#I did this because I feel like at that time he is slowly starting to figure out his sense of style#as you can tell I’m not good at designing characters hahaha#billy joe cobra#dtmg#dude that’s my ghost

i kept forgetting to do this, but i finally remembered we got permission to upload the full pieces done for the SEASONS ZINE! they're not quite as good without @deathchic's gorgeous prose accompanying them, but they were really exciting to put together.
full breakdowns of the symbolism and unobstructed views of each card can be found beneath the cut, fully transcribed. as a warning, they are LONG.
my category was "fall," which encompassed the folie and save rock and roll eras, including the welcome to the new administration mixtape and pax am days ep. seeing as i've a great deal of love for all four of those works and fall out boy has four members, i decided to highlight each work by creating a tarot-inspired card, each featuring a member of the band.
Welcome to the New Administration: Pete Wentz
Pete was the primary organizer behind the viral campaign for CitizensFOB, making him the ideal pick for this card. His card prominently features his bass guitar with the iconic Clandestine logo.
Repeating Number 4: 4 stars above the eagle's head, 4 markings across the cube at the center, 4 members of the band
The tri-colored drapes behind Pete were suspended behind the band on the mixtape cover. The curtains parting over a black background signifies the oncoming hiatus.
The cube-like geometric shape in front of the eagle represents the single promotional art done for "America's Suitehearts," which was one of the tracks demoed in the mixtape and one of the singles that connected most prominently with the themes of the mixtape.
The shield Pete carries and the eagle mounted behind him are both symbols that were used to promote the CitizensFOB viral campaign, featuring the catchphrase: "For Our Betterment, There Is More Mayhem."
Pete's apparel is what he was wearing for the Believers Never Die Part Deux tour, in which there was a lot of direct satirization of Wall Street and American politics. All the band members were wearing suits and looking visibly battered, and Pete had a nosebleed. Patrick also has a nosebleed on his own card; both Pete and Patrick's cards are pre-hiatus projects.
The symbols at the four corners of the card are indicative of the imagery surrounding the campaign. The pointing hand comes from the cover for the mixtape; the airplane is a reference to the "Mailbaick Vaintey and Pidetaerson Firm" videos and accounts that were used in the viral campaign; the wolf head is for the "Alpha Dog" demo, which made its debut on the CitizensFOB mixtape and namedropped "Welcome to the New Administration" title in its demo form; the boomerang is for the "Lake Effect Kid" demo, which also made its debut on the CitizensFOB mixtape.
"The Citizen" is an obvious reference to the "Citizens For Our Betterment" campaign name.
The card features 12 colors, all colorpicked from the Welcome to the New Administration mixtape cover. This represents the 12 artists who contributed the mixtape musically (not merely speaking roles): The Academy Is..., Butch Watcher, The Cab, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, Four Year Strong, Gym Class Heroes, Hey Monday, The Hush Sound, Panic! At The Disco, A Rocket to the Moon, and Tyga.
The background elements are indicative of the state of the band prior to the hiatus: the leaves are in tatters and shreds. The sunflower is a native Chicago variant, Helianthus occidentalis, late-blooming sunflower that lasts well into early fall. Sunflowers obviously have a strong association with the sun, but they also stand for adoration, loyalty, good fortune, vitality, longevity, and prosperity. The bright yellow color also associates them with intelligence, happiness, and friendship. Van Gogh had a famous Sunflower series, leading to the obvious connection to Infinity on High, the album preceding the Folie era. This made it a good pick for the pre-hiatus cards, since it was loyalty and friendship that led to the hiatus and ultimately to the band's longevity and vitality. Both Folie à Deux and the Welcome to the New Administration mixtape had more yellow tones than their post-hiatus counterparts as well, thus the pick of a yellow flower.
Folie à Deux: Patrick Stump
Patrick has stated that Folie à Deux is the most "him" out of Fall Out Boy's discography, making him ideal for this card.
Repeating Number 4: 4 electric bursts from the microphone, 4-sided symbol mounted on the microphone, 4 ruffles on Dr. Benzedrine's front
The card features 13 colors to represent the 13 tracks on the album itself (excluding bonus tracks). All colors were colorpicked directly from the album cover.
The anchor is a reference to the lyrics of "27," with a crown symbol on it in reference to "Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet."
There are 9 stripes on the upper side of the background, as a reference to "West Coast Smoker" - the suicidal cats have 9 lives.
The microphone represents Patrick's role as vocalist. It is also a reference to "(Coffee's for Closers)," as the microphone stand is electrified.
Patrick's right half is modeled after his costume in the "America's Suitehearts" video, "Dr. Benzedrine." He has a nosebleed in reference to the lyrics of the song that is his namesake, "20 Dollar Nose Bleed." Both he and Pete represent pre-hiatus projects, and both have bleeding noses.
Patrick's left half is modeled after his costume in the "What A Catch, Donnie" video. He has 20 stripes on his shirt - half black and half white, keeping with themes of duality. The 20 total stripes also references "20 Dollar Nose Bleed."
The background on the bottom half is shattered into 15 visible fragments, indicating the 15 tracks of the full album (when including bonus tracks such as "Pavlove" and "Lullabye"). There are also 27 fragments scattered between the two halves of Patrick, representing "27" and the 27 club.
The symbols at the four corners have dual meanings, in keeping with the theme of duality. The bee is both a lyrical reference to "Lullabye" and a nod to the intro of "Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes"; the storm cloud is both a nod to the lyrics of "She's My Winona" and a reference to the "Mr. Sandman" character in the "America's Suitehearts" video; the horseshoe crab is both a reference to the lyrics on "The (Shipped) Gold Standard" and to the character of "H. Shoe Crab" in the "America's Suitehearts" video; the sunflower acknowledges the lyrics in "27" about shooting the sunshine into one's veins and nods to the flower on the hat of the "Donnie the Catcher" character in the "America's Suitehearts" video.
"The Mirror" references the theming of duality on the album, as well as the fact that the vinyl required a mirror for one to read the tracklisting since the text was printed backwards.
The card features heavy themes of duality to suit the theme of a "madness shared by two." The image is bisected in several respects: Patrick is fractured in two, both halves wearing different costumes and expressions; the shadow in the center is split down the middle; the broken heart in the upper half is also two faces; the image is divided both horizontally and vertically; and a dichotomy of fire (the electrified microphone stand) and water (the anchor).
Save Rock and Roll: Joe Trohman
Joe took a much more active writing role post-hiatus and on this album in particular, making him a good pick to represent Save Rock and Roll.
Repeating Number 4: 4 symbols, 4-pointed symbol holding up the others
The card features 11 colors, representing 11 tracks on the album. All colors were color-picked directly from the album cover, with an emphasis on reds, to suit the "red palette" imagery surrounding the album.
This card is saturated with imagery from the 11-part video series the band released in conjunction with the album, "The Youngblood Chronicles." Joe is wearing the costume he had for the majority of the video series prior to his death.
The card features heavy fire imagery due to this being a motif on the album and on the associated video series, with smoke rising up in the background. This is indicative of the band "rising from the ashes" post-hiatus, and also symbolizes the resurrection of Joe's character at the end of "The Youngblood Chronicles."
The guitar-axe weapon is from the "Death Valley" video and would have been his weapon if he weren't dead at this point in time. The card prominently features Joe's guitar, albeit turned into a weapon, as befitting the theming.
The four symbols mounted behind Joe are also from "The Youngblood Chronicles" - the symbol representing the "Silence the Noise" group; the symbol associated with the gang of child bikers; the symbol the Prince of Darkness tattoos on Joe's hand; and the crown-and-volcano symbol associated with the band post-hiatus. The symbol upon which these four icons are mounted is found on the floor in Heaven in the "Save Rock and Roll" video.
Joe is the only one who does not face the audience directly, and is turned in profile. Given the fictional nature of the narrative of "The Youngblood Chronicles," he has the most distance from the fourth wall.
The symbols at the four corners of the card also draw from imagery from "The Youngblood Chronicles." The disco ball is from the "Where Did the Party Go" video, in which Joe's character dies. The briefcase is a consistent object throughout the entire series, and serves to incite the entire narrative. Patrick's hook hand, also seen throughout, is significant due to Patrick's unwitting role as Joe's murderer. The snake, seen in "Young Volcanoes" and "Just One Yesterday," is representative of the group's collective trauma.
"The Defender" is a reference to the names of the characters of Fall Out Boy in "The Youngblood Chronicles," as they are referred to as "The Defenders of the Faith" in the longform video's opening credits. This title is in and of itself a reference to the title track on Save Rock and Roll.
Pax Am Days: Andy Hurley
The Pax Am Days EP is closest to the band's hardcore roots in terms of sonics and composition, and Andy is the most active in hardcore circles today, which makes him an ideal pick for this card.
Repeating 4: 4 holes in the American flag, 4 supports visible on the toms and bass drum, 4 tears on the left side of the wall
The card features 9 colors, all color-picked from the EP cover, per the 9 tracks on the EP (counting the bonus "New Dreams" Naked Rayguns cover).
There are also 9 tears on the right side of the wall, also befitting the 9 tracks on the EP.
The black-and-white checkered background represents the Pax Am studio where the EP was recorded and after which it was named.
Andy is the only one whose card features him looking directly at the audience, to signify the more intimate recording sessions behind the EP, in which studio chatter and laughter can be heard between every track. Being the drummer of the band, Andy's drumkit is naturally featured very prominently.
The crown-volcano symbol that's become synonymous with the band post-hiatus is (barely) visible mounted on Andy's bass drum. This is a similarity Andy's card shares with Joe's, as they both represent post-hiatus projects.
The American flag was also present in the studio for recording. The flag being torn and shredded on the card relates to tracks on the EP that discuss disillusionment with the American dream ("American Made"). It is also indicative of the eras preceding and following the Pax Am EP (Folie à Deux and the Welcome to the New Administration mixtape, and then American Beauty / American Psycho).
The four symbols at the corners of the card all represent lyrics present on the EP: the crown comes from "We Were Doomed from the Start (The King is Dead)"; the lion comes from "Demigods"; the black widow comes from "Hot to the Touch, Cold on the Inside"; the skull comes from "Love, Sex, Death."
"The Believer" is a reference to the final compilation prior to the band's four-year hiatus, "Believers Never Die." With the band returning seemingly from the dead, it seems that believers truly never die. This is paired with Andy reportedly being the only member of the band who always believed they would get back together, even if none of the others did.
The background elements for the post-hiatus cards feature leaves with much more reddish tones. The color red has a great deal of symbolic meanings, including high energy, vitality, strength, and prosperity. Additionally, the fallen leaves are rich and whole, to contrast the shredded-looking leaves in the background for the pre-hiatus cards. After the hiatus, the band's overall health and mentality was much healthier.
The flower in the background is a Madame Julia Correvon clematis, a wine-red Chicago variant of clematis that blooms in the summer and fall. Clematis flowers are associated with mental acuity, wisdom, travel, aspiration, and mischief. Red clematis in particular is associated with passion, energy, good luck, prosperity, security, physical vitality, and courage. This, along with the red color scheme, made it a good flower to represent the cards for the post-hiatus projects.
#fall out boy#fob#seasons zine#*mine#*art#ids in the alt text#i overthought so much of this symbolism lol#and the flowers arent 100% accurate to what theyre supposed to look like...#alas! it was fun regardless

"I'm a nice person but I'm about to start throwing rocks at people.” Feels like a very Flynn to say.
Julie never expected Flynn to get into teaching. Honestly, they'd always dreamed of being on stage together, touring as Double Trouble. Except their styles of writing clashed so much it never really worked out, and then Julie got a ghost band turned human band turned international sensation. So yeah, while Flynn did make some cool remixes for the bonus track of their album, she decided her future lied elsewhere.
"It's basically the same thing," she'd joked once when they'd been hanging out in Julie's mom's studio, like the Old Days, even though that couch definitely wasn't as kind on 30-something's backs. "You have an audience. I have an audience. But if mine gets lippy, I can send them to time out."
Luke's head had popped up from his song book, but Julie pointed a warning finger at him. "No."
"Aw."
"Besides, I've realised I can achieve my ultimate childhood dream," Flynn had said.
"Become queen of the moon?" Julie asked.
"My other childhood dream: become Ms Frizzle."
And she had. Flynn had awesome, over the top outfits for just about every subject she taught, and Julie loved every selfie she sent while they were on tour. The guys had even turned it into a guessing game, trying to figure out what today's lesson was about.
Between the amazing fashion and the fact that she knew Actual Rock Star Julie Molina, Flynn was clearly the coolest teacher in school. Especially when she got Julie and The Phantoms to play at the school Christmas Charity Drive. The kids loved it. The band loved it. The teachers loved it.
The problem were the parents. Or, certain types of parents.
Julie had lost Alex to a bunch of earnest middle schoolers, Reggie to the Bake Sale, and Luke to a bunch of children who thought an electric guitar was the coolest thing. She'd been making small-talk with the lovely kindergarten teacher when Flynn flopped against the stage beside her, shoving an entire cupcake into her mouth in one go, handing the other one to Julie.
The kindergarten teacher gave them a smile, obviously used to Flynn's antics, and wandered off.
"You okay?" she said as Flynn thankfully at least chewed instead of just washing the whole thing down with soda like some kind of carbonated drink loving cobra. She patiently waited for Flynn to be finished, wincing at the sound nearby of Luke letting one of the kids try out what playing with an amp was like.
"I'm a nice person," Flynn said. "But I'm about to start throwing rocks at people."
"That bad?"
"One of the PTA moms asked me why I couldn't get Trevor Wilson instead," Flynn said. "And then tried to get me to talk to you about playing her kid's birthday party."
"Wow," Julie said.
"Fuck Debra McManning."
That name sounded vaguely familiar. The way it rolled off Flynn's tongue, she was pretty sure she cursed that woman's name a lot. "Wait, wasn't that the lady who complained you put her son in time out because he bit like three kids?"
"Yes," Flynn said, smiling a smile with gritted teeth. "And I'm not allowed to leave this room until we get the amount we need for the fundraiser, and if she talks to me again I am throwing hands. Or rocks. Or knives."
Julie knew that look. It happened right before Flynn did something they usually both regretted (because of course Julie wouldn't let her do the stupid thing alone.)
"Band huddle!" she called, decisively. Three heads popped up from various places in the gym, and her boys made their way to her.
"What's up, boss?" Luke asked, only pouting a little at being pulled away from his favourite thing: talking to people about music who were just as feral as he was. In this case, eight-year-olds who loved loud noises.
"We need to donate..."
"Five hundred twenty-seven dollars," Flynn said.
"Five hundred twenty-seven dollars," Julie repeated. "So Flynn doesn't commit manslaughter."
"Oh it won't be manslaughter," Flynn said. "It will definitely be premeditated."
"I need to taste at least five more things from the bake sale," Reggie said. "But I can start tipping well."
"Get me one of those giant cookies," Luke said, and Reggie shot him a thumbs up.
"There's an art auction in the corner, some kid drew a raccoon furry on a skateboard," Alex said. "I'm getting it for Willie. Think two hundred dollars will help me win it?"
"I'm going to get my nails painted at the booth over there," Julie said. "I'm sure their artistic vision will be worth more than they're asking."
They all looked at Luke expectantly, and he blinked, before grabbing the dinosaur wallet from the chain on his pants and giving Flynn a hundred dollars.
"Or that," Alex sighed.
"Or that," Flynn agreed. "Thank you."
"Of course," Julie said, giving her a hug. "You can't be Ms Frizzle if you're in jail."

I know that Terry is the type of guy to be super groomed, like facials, manicures, pedicures; but would he ever get his nails polished with color? And if so, which color? 🤍
---
At one point in time, any color.
Even though, on a day to day basis, I see him opting for a tactically unassuming transparent nail finish and perhaps a discreet filling that can fly under the radar in a commonplace setting if he wants it so (or in the strict, no-nonsense corporate world that comes with well-established rules of masculinity) perhaps the best giveaway being that this guy isn't just some ordinary Joe Schmoe is how well taken care of his hands are. Suspiciously well taken care. These ain't the hands of a worker, even though they can somehow break rock. That, and his immaculately slicked back hair with not a single stranded where it shouldn't be, every day, all day, morning, noon and night; something a working class man wouldn't be able to maintain with such ease, efficacy and perfection because he'd be...you know...working? And too exhausted when he wasn't. But, Terry Silver does maintain it, and if someone ran into him on the street by accident, finding him posing as a blue collar somebody, you'd have to wonder just how he does that. He does it by having his on stand-by stylists, manicurists, pedicurists and an entire entourage of professionals there to take care of his appearance, even when he deliberately tries to make himself shabby, he doesn't do it on his own. Undoubtedly flies in fashion experts just to make him look poor. Or relatable. Or daunting. Or charitable. Or approachable. Or whatever image it is he wants to tactically broadcast next. Presentation is king. Man has an outfit and a grooming choice for any occasion.
But, outside of that?
Have we seen the 80's?
Have we seen the fashion flamboyance and the loud glam-extravaganza men tended to carry themselves with? If we could have Johnny Lawrence and his Cobra friends in highschool, macho-boy extraordinaire that they were, going around in skeleton face paint with his nails colored black for Halloween, then surely, everything under the sun's possible. In equal measure, there's the 70's, bell bottoms, face paint rock bands, deep slit sequin shirts and the disco craze --- we can even go further back into the 1960's and the Bohemian Hippie fashion if only it wasn't for the fact Terry would've been a child or a teenager then, then promptly off to Vietnam with him and the fact that if he undoubtedly tried experimenting with any flamboyance, his father would've had a thing or five to say about it; these decades are decades associated with going all out and by god, if anyone went all out, it was surely Terry Silver. Think this man had black nails, silver ones (for his own name sake), gold, red, bejeweled antique clip on nails from China that belonged to some Empress that ended up in his collection of rare, expensive and unusual items, stiletto sharp ones he could drag across the backs of many a lover, leaving his trace behind on their scratched cheeks and when he was done being a sadistic wild cat, he'd have them clipped and re-groomed into something that blends in with whatever place he's inhibiting, matching his styling with his surroundings, like so many masks for so many instances of life, in equal measure, so many nails, styling choices and grooming habits to match whatever role he wants to play next.

My Billy is a bit grouchier than he is in canon and would be just a little bit meaner. He gives the kids harsh criticisms on certain things, like say Spencer's homemade props, or all in all is sometimes seen as unfair by the kids point of view, see canon Billy's 'diva tantrum' from episode 2 that was actually completely justified.
My Billy's career started when he was 12, being the youngest boy in a boy band, and his solo career began when he was 15, but ended when he died. He died at home, thus why his ghost was tied there before the kids found his stuff and he was able to follow them around town. He had been into music from a young age thanks to his mother, who had tried to go solo some time in the 70s/early 80s but failed. When her husband/Billy's father passed, and she had to raise the boy alone she ended up turning unreleased songs into lullabies just for him and showed him how to play certain instruments, like an acoustic guitar. It was like this until he was 12, where he begged his mom to let him try out for the boy band he was in, and then his manager ended up marrying his mom by the time he was 13, he kept his father's last name though. Sadly his mother passed when he was 15 and it devastated him. (I imagine my Billy is a bit of a Mama's boy, if you want a fun visual I always imagine him to the song underworld, from the epic underworld saga, in which the segment where Odysseus is talking to his mom would be him if his mama were a ghost.) he gets his taste in home decor from her :3
a lot of his arrogance is played up as a stage persona, I also changed his genre from pop to rock to more heavily reference Billy Joe Armstrong who he's said to be based on. Similarly, he would absolutely dropkick a guy from the stage, like Billy Joe Armstrong did at a concert to protect a lady being harassed in the crowd.
Like I mentioned in Spencer's post Billy and Spencer have a SIBLING dynamic and depending on the episode his roll would either be an annoyed older sibling, a babysitter, or he's having a moment being one of the kids. I also imagine for my version of Mallory he gives her pep talks on how to tell people no and how to stand up for herself (I will explain more about her when I get to writing her post.) he also originally did not want spencer and his family in his house, but seeing as it currently keeps him from being lonely he's fine with it, for now.
As for my design for Billy, his hair replaces his jacket lapels as the whole 'cobra hood' thing. He doesn't have pupils because of ghost lore that will get a separate post, and instead of wearing short clothes that hed probably wear at a concert he's wearing his own merch, which I imagine hed wear casually either at home or as pajamas, maybe outside as well if he didn't want to get recognized, considering my version died at home he's in his casual wear and thus his own merch, granted it's old merch since he's been dead for 10 years but what can he do, he's dead.

Albertus von Crimea Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way
(just kidding, ends up taking his mother's name because Valter's is top secret even to his family + the whole royalty thing. refuses to give his full name in most situations however, just to cultivate an air of mystery!)
class: pegasus knight -> wyvern knight -> malig knight (lance/sword + dark magic)
whilst a ruthless warrior, he lacks some of valter's more unhinged and bloodthirsty personality traits. he also lacks elincia's warmth and frankly thinks both of his parents are weirdos
cold and aloof to most people, with maybe the exception of his younger siblings (tbd!). my boy just is not a people person, even when he tries.
is actually very warm and gentle and sweet with animals though! especially ones that other people consider scary or ugly
kiddo definitely has brought home a few medieval fantasy king cobras before...
has no interest in being a prince or inheriting the throne and intends to run off and join a band of mercs once he's of age and finds one good enough for him
ends up not having to run off after all! elincia is uh... concerned about the whole merc thing but ultimately his family appreciate him as he is. in their own way.
is absolutely terrible at healing magic. tried to learn it from his mother because it's useful but will probably cause you to lose health if he heals you
as a result he always carries a first aid kick. slap a bandaid on it and walk it off.
took piano lessons as part of his noble upbringing and whilst he stopped lessons he never stopped playing in secret. don't mention it though or he may have to kill you
terrified of kittens because why are they so SMALL (what if he hurts them!)

10 Questions
Tagged by: @ir0n-moon Alright get ready for some Pan lore.
1. What's your phone wallpaper? A commissioned piece of Levy and Gajeel from Fairy Tail. I'd love to change it to one of my metalocalypse commissions but I just love those two so much.
2. Favorite singer? There are many to choose from, but one that has been consistent has been Andrea Bocelli. His voice can bring me to tears and his songs remind me of my grandpa
3. Favorite band? I'll name a handful: Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds, Lake Street Dive, Armor for Sleep and Cobra Starship
4. Favorite character of all time? All time? ALL TIME? Jeez putting the pressure on me here. I'd say Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I've always felt a special connection with her as a bookworm and falling in love with someone people don't expect me to.
5. Favorite book? Speaking of which, Panama by Thomas McGuane, American Fire by Monica Hesse, Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, The Ex Hex by Rachel Hawkins. You cannot tell a book lover to pick one favorite book!
6. Favorite movie? I'm gonna bring up some that may not be as common but I remember one that I saw on Netflix called Carrie Pilby from 2016 about this overachiever girl who's life gets turned around and she needs to bring herself down to reality. Meets some people along the way and learns about herself. Gee I can't imagine why I like the movie so much.
7. Favorite actor/actress? They're all fine I guess. I'm more into voice actors like Bryce Papenbrook and Cristina Valenzuela
8. Favorite YouTuber? Waaaay too many to count. But I gotta give a shout out to my favorite podcast, Beef Boys. It's such a fun group of guys and I love them all so much.
9. Do you drink? I'm a beer and wine girl now. I'll drink vodka on occasion.
10. If you were an animal what would you be? A cryptid living in the woods

another kreese flashback north vietnam 1969
There's a lot more people captured then Kreese's little unit.
I somehow highly doubt that they would be shooting guns up into the sky like that. Waste of ammunition during a war and also giving your location away.
First fight to the death club
Encino oaks once again serving spagehtti.
A nightmare for Daniel on a tray.
Encino Oaks has a band playing jazz christmas songs
The uniforms are kind of fun, green with a candy cane striped tie and a mistletoe toe boutineer.
Okay, why do they go to Encino Oaks if Amanda hates the people there and Daniel has trauma related to it? Why not another country club? 5 minutes and Amanda's seen 10 people she hates.
Anthony keeps getting kicked out of sleepovers....how was that not a clue???? Omg you say that like it's nothing but that's literally a clue that Anthony might be bullying other kids.
Bartender's name is Brett and knows his and Amanda's usual.
Ali is right, Daniel was supposed to meet her at the Country club and snuck in the back, saw Johnny kiss Ali to I guess make Daniel jealous, panicked, tripped into a waiter trying to deliver spagehtti and got his white clothes ruined only to leave without seeing Ali punch Johnny in the face and spent months assuming she'd toyed with him to make Johnny jealous.
They were overdue by 30 years a meet up at the country club.
I do love Daniel's blue velvet? suit although in LA that thing has to be sweltering.
Calm down Johnny they literally just saw each other, plus you have Carmen.
But I do like that Johnny nearly gets sauced, but manages to jump out of the way in time which gives away his position just like the hardware store.
Ali instantly summoning him over and reintroducing them. 🤣
Johnny asks if Daniel sleeps in his suit and Daniel calls Johnny scarface.
Instant bickering, such a tell.
Mitch and Chris are wrestling fans. And Chris telling the truth here:
Demetri jumping up and using Eagle Fang/Cobra Kai language to stop Mitch and Bert from leaving.
There are more than just Mitch, Bert, and Miguel in Eagle Fang, but for some reason they're the only students here. Same for Miyagi-do.
Ali tallying up for me. Love it. She actually listened to them and is like loving the drama. (I mean, same)
Not 100% accurate, she was in the backseat. Yasmine technically did it.
well not directly, on a billboard, but close enough.
Louie upped the stakes to a ridiculous amount with that one. (Don't forget the motorcycle gang Ali)
Ali, why did you skip on all the drama at lunch?
Only with the help of a woman at a bar and Miguel. I wouldn't say he's figured it out though. 🤣
That's mean Daniel. There's nothing wrong with if he did that, but the way you say it.
I love Ali
Amanda, did you get lost on the way to the table and then seeing Johnny and going oh boy
I love that Amanda sees Daniel talking to her ex and while her face looks like oh god, her words are actually delightful: I cannot wait to talk to you. And it's mutual.
I think this is one of my favorite scenes where these two just roast Daniel and Johnny. "On the whole "mortal enemy karate dojo battle for the soul of the valley" thing?
I love Amanda's laugh and eat an olive to Ali's 'how's you both having karate dojo's going'
The kids making their list of demands.
Training at Miyagi-do to an extent makes sense or at least wanting to train there because it's not the park. But I gotta say the park doesn't have giant rocks in the middle of it
lol I forgot they're trying to do literally everything. Rename the merged dojo, gi designs, after training snacks, and SDRP: Sensei Dispute Resolution Protocol.
Bert continuously being an animal lover, wanting to let Sam's non existent cat in only to get thrown through a window.
The fact Sam doesn't immediately go we don't have a cat, but instead Miguel's the first to tell something's fishy.
Also would like to point out Bert went through a door on the right but comes in through the kitchen window on the left within the time it takes to say "I didn't know you have a cat/we don't"
Miguel: BERT WHAT HAPPENED?! Bert missing his glasses, face bleeding, just a sad: "No cat"
Pretty sure this counts as breaking and entering from the Cobra Kai kids. Like actual home invasion.
Miguel's first move is, with Nate, to get Bert back up and get him moving away from the intruders with them.
One of Tory's best outfits.
Also I don't think I'd realized that Hawk Kyler and a few others come in one way and it's not the way Bert left from, and through the front do is Tory and two more. Literally pincer movement.
Really out of all the parties Sam has hosted it's the most non-sam chill party ever.
The big over the top teen fights are really quite fun.
The jazz band at the country club is called the Valley Stardusters
Because Amanda knows about the '84 All Valley tournament and a lot of Miyagi stuff I always assumed she knew everything but then got confused when silver shows up and she knows nothing. But I think this is like the first (or at least early) clue that Daniel hasn't told her everything:
Again, love Ali and Amanda
Ali confirms that after the tournament they left each other alone.
Their rivalry was not why Ali and Daniel broke up.
Ali got into UCLA and ran into this guy she knew who went there, Daniel sees her talking to her friend and jumps to conclusions, Ali got upset and thinks maybe she egged him on. Daniel thought she was in love, but Ali told him she wasn't, just like she told him the breaks on Mr. Miyagi's car were going to go. (Johnny looks amused/pleased) Ali tells Daniel she hopes he didn't tell Mr. Miyagi it was her fault it crashed. Daniel mumbles his lie into his drink, which seems to be white wine. Johnny's drinking a beer with an orange wedge.
Johnny relents and says maybe they both had their heads up their asses in high school and Amanda says her's in high school was so far up there she could see out her mouth.
Omg Kyler throwing Miguel into the like granite table behind the couch, straight against his back. Chris is ace at using things around him, literally picks up a pan in the kitchen to hit a guy, like he hit Mitch with a school book.
Mitch is fighting his 'friend' that was pretty much the other follower to Hawk.
Demetri is a giant compared to Nate and Bert who he's running with and kinda shoving them both out of the way and into each other. Saving them and also just picking Bert up who kicks other people. 🤣
Demetri using Eagle fangs as weapons 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am also enjoying the rock version of carol of the bells
Demetri lands on the weird chair...speaking of which
It is such a weird chair.
Mitch runs to check on him and try to help him get up before he gets pulled away. Some Eagle Fang Miyagi do bonding there.
There's a giant metal gate inside of the LaRusso house. Bert and Nate are thrown into a Christmas tree
Eli has gotten really good at moving and dodging out of the way. He breaks a vase over one of the background Miyagi-do kids heads.
Sam grabs a guy and throws him over the same granite table Kyler threw Miguel into, putting the lamp out and hitting the painting behind it.
While Tory and Sam finally spot each other Miguel is pinned against the wall getting just punched again and again by Kyler.
Sam runs, that same kid Hawk breaks a vase over his head tries to stop Tory from getting to sam but he's just brushed off, though he tries a second time so kudos to this unnamed kid she throws into a wall next to the fire place in the kitchen.
Tory's slow mo villain walk
They also totally have a fan blowing on Tory for her hair.
Tory corners her in the dojo and kicks her in the face then grabs nunchucks
Amanda loving their night after starting the night hating like 10 people there is so delightful: I'm going to grab my jacket before I die of joy | You are my hero (To Ali)
Amanda giving Johnny a hug 🥺
Ali: You two really enjoy fighting each other. Daniel: He's instigating and I'm just defending myself. Johnny: She knows first hand that's bullshit
There's more than one side to every story, your side, your side, and then the truth.
Ali reading them so well: You recognize parts of yourself in each other and maybe you don't always like what you see.
Point Mills for sure
The good times will always outweigh the bad for Ali.
Daniel truly has a good time every time he sits down with Johnny.
Johnny's first Daniel. I also want to point out he stepped really far away to allow Daniel and Ali to have a private goodbye.
Amanda and I counting that Ali got two hugs.
I didn't quite catch if nunchucks are on the wall at cobra kai now, but Tory knows how to use them. So I suppose Kreese must've taught her.
Tory breaks Mr. Miyagi's photograph.
Sam grabbing the bo staff makes sense, it can keep Tory at a distance, which is what she needs right now. The nunchucks are closer distance weapon.
Holding Demetri's just healed arm in the same position to break it.
Also Kyler beat the heck out of poor Miguel.
Hawk realizing that beating up his friends kinda sucks and Johnny and Miguel might be right.
I love Hawk's turning point. He regretted breaking Demetri's arm, literally uses Demetri to vault over to knock out both Cobras and send the guy who'd held his arm back into a glass table breaking it.
Demetri understandably confused and retreating for every step forward Eli takes
BINARY BROTHERS KICKING ASS
Literally using their held hands to kick ass. Demetri slides Hawk against the floor so he can pop up and kick someone. (I'm noticing that while Chris grabs things as weapons, Demetri uses other people as weapons 🤣)
For having never fought together before they both slide into teamwork really well, probably due to the childhood friendship
Kyler literally will not leave Miguel alone. He's cornered him and beaten him up like 3 times. And seems to just keep picking him up and continuing to whale on him.
Damn those moves Miguel, it's a lot of flips and then in one punch to the face he knocks Kyler out and says "thanks for the motivation". 🤣
oooh sam uses her bo staff to disarm Tory's nunchucks and send them flying against another wall.
Miguel, Hawk, and Demetri run in to tell Tory and Sam to stop fighting, that the fight is over.
Tory says it'll never be over, calls Miguel and Hawk traitors and tells Hawk to watch his back.
Demetri pretty much instantly counters that with a very aggressive he won't have to he's got friends to watch it for him.
Our little trio is reunited. (Even though I think that was way too fast for Demetri to forgive Eli for BREAKING HIS ARM)
lol Encino oaks for sure makes their staff dress up for holidays.
I love that Ali doesn't believe that Johnny's driving a '93 Dodge Caravan, aka a soccer mom car.
Amanda told Ali that Johnny's seeing a hot lady aka Carmen. Aka Amanda thinks Carmen is hot.
Johnny: Carmen is amazing Ali: If she's cool enough to make Johnny Lawrence speechless you better figure it out quick. Johnny: I know.
Johnny: I always screw things up. Ali: You didn't screw up today. Thanks for making me feel like a kid again (and also for making sure she had fun at the party that her parents made her go to. I think she managed to avoid her parents the whole time)
Johnny: We had our own little time machine. 💖
a good long hug.
He offers to drive her but she has to go find her parents.
Ali: I will always be there for you, you know that right? Johnny: Me too. Ali: Get out of here, you have a future to find. Johnny: I do.
Johnny practicing what he's going to say: Carmen I figured it out. I'm ready. I love you.
He really needed that closure and a chance to talk to Ali.
Carmen opening the door looking upset and then the pan to Miguel and Johnny gets pissed with a what happened.
They pick the captain and Silver to fight but Silver doesn't want to, so Kreese volunteers.
The captain held onto the information that Betsy was dead until this point, telling Kreese he has nothing to live for, but that he, the captain does. "She wrapped her car around a tree driving to visit her grandmother in Pasadena."
I'm going to pt 2 this because I'm out of image space and the snakes and Daniel vs Kreese are coming and i have a feeling I'm going to need image space.

Model Daniel/Musician Johnny
Because the door was unlocked and he'd been there several times the last month and a half, Daniel thought nothing of walking right into the house, where he found Johnny in his bedroom (actually the living room because Kreese, the band's ex manager, would not let them buy the three bedroom house and forced Johnny to make a room for himself on the first floor) packing boxes. Their new house had three bedrooms. Johnny was gonna have his own room.
"What do you want?" Johnny asked, barely glancing as he cumbled up some papper and tossed it in a trashcan a few feet away. "Shouldn't you be at that party, schmoozing it up?"
Daniel shut the door behind him turned the lock, casually walked to the bed (pull out couch) and lied down, arms behind his head. "Nah. Got tired of the crappy music and drunk people. Jimmy was hitting on Zendaya when I left." Daniel never wanted to go in the first place, but he promised the photographer that invited him he'd make an appearence. His manager, Mr. Miyagi, didn't mind that he was only there for an hour. It was enough.
"Like anything would happen between them," Johnny replied with a roll of his eyes. He picked up what looked like a business card. His jaw clenched and he sniffed. Daniel guessed it was Kreese's, his name in small print shining silver underneath rhe large "Gold Entertainment". Johnny said him and the rest of the Cobra Boys were happy at Lotus Agency United now, but despite the way Kreese was, they'd been with him for awhile. There might always be a part of them that would miss him. Johnny ripped it up into pieces and let them flutter to the floor.
"Hey, get out of my bed, LaRusso."
He grinned. "Come over here and make me."
While they were long past the point of violence (he still couldn't believe this blond hotheaded lunatic was his friend), there was still the memories of Johnny's punches and kicks, so Daniel assumed his smart remark would earn some kind of assault. However, Johnny silently got up and lied next to him. They both looked up at the ceiling, at the water stains and star stickers.
"You takin' those with you to the new house?"
"No. Tommy already bought a bunch more."
"Real ones are better. You should go take a gander at them sometime."
"You asking me out, Danielle?"
Yes. No. Maybe. Was he?
"Depends. You good with a pizza and movie first?"
Faster than Daniel could blink, Johnny sat on Daniel's thighs, one leg on either side of them. Daniel stared, wide eyed,as Johnny lifted his shirt up to show off his chest.
"Yeah sure. Maybe you'd rven get lucky."
Hesitantly, Daniel reach out a hand. Johnny smirked and grabbed his wrist, brought the hand ulp to his chest. Daniel swallowed and squeezed one of his pecs. "Wow," he breathed.
This wasn't an unexpected development. Most people, some of Daniel's friends included, insisted there was some tension between them, even back when they couldn't stand each other.
"Real glad you're here," Johnny said, bending down to kiss Daniel. He ground their hips together, and Daniel groaned as Johnny started to unbutton his shirt.
⭐️
"You hungry?" Johnny asked, shaking Daniel, who was in trance, focused on the stars.
"I guess." His clothes were back on. Underwear most likely on backwards. Pants unzipped, unbottoned, unbuckled. Johnny's hair was a mess. He watched the blond as he walked into the kitchen, noticing a slight limp..
"Most of the stuff is packed away. But we got microwavable popcorn. And beer. Maybe a movie on my laptop."
"Yeah, sure." He eyed the guitar resting on the couch they used as an actually couch. "How 'bout a song, too? You have a decent voice."
Johnny followed his gaze to the guitar. "Want me to sing the song I wrote you?"
Daniel sat up, jaw hanging open. "You what?"
"You’re too easy, Daniel," Johnny laughed. He threw the bag into the microwave and turned it on. Getting the beers from the fridge, he jumped on the bed next to Daniel, sat crosslegged and handed one off to him. He gave Daniel a sweet peck on the mouth that got hus heart racing. "Play your cards right and maybe I'll like you enough to write you a song."
"Sounds like a challenge. How's this: you and me next Friday at seven. I'll pick you up and take you to an Italian place near Mr. Miyagi's."
"Oh, what a gentleman."
"I want that song, doll."

Pen Pal Au— Lawguchi
Every month, Johnny's school always has this thing with Pen Pals, The school would be in contact with another school around the country to have their students be pen pals, Johnny didn't really like it, felt it was weird to talk with strangers, but lately this year they made it for a grade, a must to pass the class.
So on Monday, they each got a random student from a place in Okinawa, Johnny had heard of that place, some prefecture in Japan.
Pen Pals of the Month
Chozen Toguchi.
Eighteen.
Lives with his uncle, does Karate, and helps in a dojo.
Was it for the karate that they have Johnny this guy? Probably, but hey at least he's got something in common with this kid.
After school Johnny sat on his desk, staring at the black paper, having a hard time what to write, how do you start one? How do you introduce yourself to someone, Johnny had rare moments where she interacted with someone that wasn't his cobras or mom.
Writing a letter seemed easy but also hard, either way he needed to do this, for his grade, and he had to make it pretty, pretty wasn't something for Johnny, or so he says, but ask his friends, they'd tell you some homemade gift Johnny would make them for their birthdays.
So Johnny worked on some other things before the letter, he had taken a picture of the ocean from his clipboard, had gotten some stickers that were left from Ali in his drawer, did a small playlist cause why not let some guy on the other side of the world have a taste of good ass music?!
After he had gotten some things the teachers and his friends suggested, he started on his letter.
Dear Chozen Toguchi,
Hi, My name is Johnny Lawrence, I'm a seventeen year old boy in California, this is really weird for me, I've never done this Pen Pal thing at school but since it's for a grade, might as well do it.
I think they gave me you because you like Karate, I do too, I'm in this dojo called Cobra Kai, and my sensei is this total badass, he teaches us offense and he taught me how to kick higher and shit, my friends are in Cobra Kai too, we meet there when we were like ten, or I was ten the others were eleven already.
How is it in Okinawa? Never been there never heard of it either, just know it's a prefecture of Japan, how's school over there? What could you do for fun? In Cali you can do so much, we have the beach, an arcade, different diners, and movies.
Anyways, I think I wrote enough, I worked on some shit the teacher suggested to have more in common with the pen pals, enjoy the best rock music ever.
Sincerely,
Johnny Lawrence
Johnny folded the paper inside the envelope, adding the picture of the Cali beach, the small paper of bands for Chozen to listen to, and some stickers, adding the post stamp and the address.
The next day the teacher asked for the letters, Johnny passed his, and they waited a few weeks, Johnny didn't have any excitement for this, he didn't think his pen pal would just responde back.
But on Monday, the teacher had came back with a box of different letters, "Johnny Lawrence, letter do you" she said, and Johnny stood up grabbing the envelope and going back to his desk, eyes locked in with a decorative envelope, and a blue wax seal.
It's was from Okinawa and from Chozen,
"holy shit"

what i'm listening to 4/10/2024
spot.//yt
Limp Bizkit - Clunk: clunk. clunk clunk. clunk. clunk
Limp Bizkit - N 2 Gether Now feat. Method Man: it's backkkk and arguably never left. this didn't begin as a favorite of mine from lb but there's just so many good lines and it's so fun. discretion is advised for the blood of virgin eyes; we're limping on the track with the method
Nirvana - The Man Who Sold the World: perhaps one of the greatest little riffs ever conceived and also btw i am a nirvana fanboy 😁
Emma Blackery - Blossom: mostly just putting this in bc i don't think i've ever had the chance to talk about how much i adore this song. easily emma's best track, i so wish she would make more that sound like this. it fits her voice so nicely and it's just so breezy and catchy and cute..... summer's a-comin'
Suede - Animal Nitrate: this goes so insane i can't believe it took me this long to find it. and i may be prone to homosexuality... but anyway this just *sounds* sooo good, the crunchy production and the riff and the melody and oh! chef's kiss!
Staind - Mudshovel: revisiting an old favorite! i so wish to perform this song live someday.... i could make it even better. and i wouldn't be a republican about it either
Ice-T - Big Gun: PENIS ALLEGORY!!!!! and VIOLENT WOMEN!!!!!! i need to watch this fucking movie so fucking badly
Limp Bizkit - Back Porch: genuinely one of lb's best songs but completely slept on bc of its placement down at the bottom of gold cobra of all things god help us. also a returning winner from a prior WILT
Sonic Youth - Death Valley '69 feat. Lydia Lunch: sonic youth good. this song in particular hits me every time as if i'd never heard it. gay
Korn - Twist: i've taken to my funny bit of unpromptedly doing the rrh na oom rah dah nn rah mm dah oom rah dah thing in the middle of conversation
Eminem - Just Don't Give A Fuck: i will confess to having a little eminem moment these past days 🫣 but this one is genuinely so good i love his early scrappy shitty music. he just don't give a fuuuuuuck
Sublime - Santeria: this has always been my favorite sublime song bc it's so pretty-sounding and summery and it's about tracking a guy down and shoving a gun in his mouth
Big Pun - Beware: the beat is crazy but admittedly the main appeal of songs where guys say a bunch of words really fast will always be the part where the guy says a bunch of words really fast
The Decemberists - Down By The Water: mostly kind of over the whole radio alternative indie folk pop rock whatever shit but this is so prettyyy and melancholy and i love the harmonizing bc i love harmonizing
Powerman 5000 - Nobody's Real: my friends and i have been watching this music video over and over, it's so fun..... pm5k at their peak was such a cool band with all the visuals and cartoon antics. plus this shit is catchy as hell
DANGERDOOM - Sofa King: i previously thought i wasn't much of a DOOM fan, though i certainly respect the craft, but these days i think it might just be that his most popular material, the stuff people always recommend, just doesn't hit for me as much as his other stuff does (and hopefully will continue to, the more i listen). g
Twin Method - Flawless: these guys were too late to the nu metal game to really get their due (not to mention they were british; that was never a big spot for the genre) but i would posit that they were damn good for a 00s-era entry in the nu canon. this is their "big" song and it holds up pretty good!
Fudge Tunnel - Grey: checked this one out bc lol funny name but they're kinda legit. speaking of british alt metal. i almost wonder if they were on the other side of things, a little ahead of their time...
Blue - All Rise: heard this in an uber and it's been stuck in my brain ever since. i do love boy band r&b, AND i love a courtroom drama, so really i han't go wrong here. lots of brits in this installment i'm noticing

hello it is time for a VERY niche post. join me for... SHL characters as SNAKES!!!!! i tried to find snakes that naturally occur in china or near china, as a terrible added parameter—there's a TON of snakes in china, but i just don't know many so it's terrible bc it added a lot of work for me lol. but i've learned things! and found some cool snakes! so! let's go. pictures of snakes ahead, if that's not your thing, feel free to peace out.
Wen Kexing - Sinomicrurus macclellandi a coral snake! just a nice boy you know? just a nice, extremely venemous boy with dramatic red coloration. shamless plug for my fic where wkx turns into This Snake.
Zhou Zishu - Bungarus multicinctus look at this lovely unassuming snake. got some goth-y drama but overall not too bad, right? one of the most venomous land snakes in the world 😌 (also. he and wkx match but like in a complimentary way.)
Zhang Chengling - Pareas margaritophorus the first thing wikipedia says about this snake is that it is small and harmless. for the first time so far, i am not trying to mislead you. just a little snek boi!!!!!! cute!!!!!! I Want To Hold And Protect Him
Gu Xiang - Fowlea piscator look i'm gonna be honest. there are not a lot of snakes that are even REMOTELY purple but this one has a little purple whip tongue! also, not venemous but (if it's anything like water snakes in the US) kind of an asshole. apparently pretends to be a cobra. look at her go.
Cao Weining - Coelognathus radiatus this snake has no thoughts in its head. look at it. i don't mean as a species i mean This One. That's cwn. just sitting there doing a blep. no venom, apparently a defensive sort of dude. cool colors tho!
Luo Fumeng - Calliophis bivirgatus a different kind of coral snake! i've gone a bit further outside of china for this one but LOOK at how gorgeous it is. how could i not let lfm be this glamorous. also i like the idea that she's a different genus of snake than wkx but still a (venemous) coral snake.
Liu Qianqiao - Elaphe taeniura gonna be honest here, the common name of this snake in english is the beauty snake (or ratsnake), so i didn't think too much farther. there's a ton of different color morphs of it. look at it, the elegance! she's beauty she's grace she'll constrict you (if you are a small mammal)!
Xie Wang - Bungarus fasciatus this is a different krait! zzs has MANY bands, xw just has bands. a little brighter colored and more extra than zzs, sliiiightly less deadly, still can very definitely kill you. LOOK at that warning coloration. if i was to pick two characters to DEFINITELY have warning coloration, it WOULD be wkx and xw.
Du Pusa - Euprepiophis mandarinus this is NOT my best work, but i just thought this snake was really pretty and so i was determined to include it somehow. hence: dps. they are ~secretive~ apparently. also. again. Look At It
Ye Baiyi - Python bivittatus BIG BOY!!!! ALMOST THE BIGGEST BOY!!!!! does occur in white color morphs in captivity (and like, i guess presumably in the wild? at one point? but i have to imagine that's like. not so much a thing anymore.) also, did i pick the picture that looks the most like a cryptid? of course i did, it's yby. he doesn't want his picture taken. he doesn't want you to know he exists even. leave him alone. where he belongs in his natural habitat.
Han Ying - Lycodon septentrionalis a shiny pretty boy. a shiny pretty boy who looks very much like a many-banded krait, in fact. however, they're not venemous. hy just looks like zzs. again: LOOK AT THIS GOOD SNEK.
Jing Beiyuan - Ahaetulla prasina several things here. one, this is an elegant but strange boy (i don't think this shows just how weird this guy's nose looks. it's like someone took a snake's nose and used pliers to stretch it out all pointy). two, FASHION!!! look at those pattens!!!!! a striking example. and three, it looks kind of like wu xi's snakeclet
Wu Xi - Naja atra he's a cobra. i think this speaks for itself.
#snakes cw#PLEASE listen to the content warning for SNAKES if you don't like PICTURES OF SNAKES#shl#blame and or thank siv for this <3

Today’s compilation:
James Dean: Tribute to a Rebel 1991 Rock & Roll / Pop-Rock / Hot Rod / Instrumental Rock / Teen Tragedies
Well, this album definitely felt a bit weird and ham-fisted. Normally, tribute albums are made in order to celebrate and honor the legacy of a certain artist or band, but in this case, Capitol-EMI sublabel CEMA Special Markets thought it a good idea to celebrate and honor the legacy of someone who *was not* a musician: the posterchild for mid-50s male youth rebellion himself, James Dean.
But only a few of the songs on this album actually seem to make any reference to the guy at all: the opening classic bit of minimalist 1974 brilliance, David Essex's "Rock On," mentions Dean's name directly; the closing somber a cappella done by The Beach Boys, "A Young Man Is Gone," is a lyrically revised version of The Four Freshmen's rendition of a song called "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring," and is a clear ode to Dean himself; and an obscure, sweltering, mid-60s hot rod instrumental in the middle that feels like it was made for the open road, by Davie Allan & The Arrows, shares the same name as the film that Dean was most famous for starring in: "The Rebel (Without a Cause)."
And before that Arrows one made its way onto this comp, the only other place you could've found it was on an Arrows LP called Apache '65, which was released in, you guessed it, 1965. It wasn't a hit, wasn't released as a single, and it wasn't on any other V/A comp either, so props to whoever was ultimately responsible for compiling this thing for including it, because although it shares the same name as Dean's most famous film, it's also probably the most obscure song on this album. Go figure!
But the rest of these songs don't really seem to have anything to do with James Dean, besides carrying the same themes that wound up defining his persona and story: cars, racing those cars, ungrounded rebelliousness, and tragic motor accidents.
And there are a whole lot of songs out there that are about all of those subjects, so I guess I really just find it kinda odd and crass to try to cash in on this dude's legacy by retrofitting a bunch of songs onto a compilation and then claiming that they somehow specifically represent his very own essence. Can't say that I'm particularly a huge fan of this strange angle.
But still, every song on here, on its own, is nothing short of great. Had CEMA tried to market this collection as something more vague, with a title that's more clever, but basically means the same thing as Songs for and About Cool Dudes😎, this album definitely wouldn't have left as sour of a taste in my mouth as it did.
Great collection of pop and rock oldies that span the 50s through 70s, but an awkward theme to unite them all under, I think. There’s gotta be a classier and more authentic way of celebrating and honoring James Dean than this.
