The United States Federal Trade Commission is taking action against two American data brokers accused of unlawfully trafficking in people’s sensitive location data. The data was used, the agency says, to track Americans in and around churches, military bases, and doctors’ offices, among other protected sites. It was sold not only for advertising purposes but also for political campaigns and government uses, including immigration enforcement.
Mobilewalla, a Georgia-based data broker that’s said to have digitally tracked the residents of domestic abuse shelters, is accused by the agency of purposefully tracking protesters in the wake of George Floyd’s murder in 2020. In a court filing, the FTC says Mobilewalla attempted to unmask the protesters’ racial identities by tracking their mobile devices to, for example, Hindu temples and Black churches.
The FTC also accused Gravy Analytics and its subsidiary Venntel of harvesting and exploiting consumers’ location data without consent, alleging that the company used that data to unfairly infer health decisions and religious beliefs.
According to the FTC, Gravy Analytics collected over 17 billion location signals from approximately a billion mobile devices daily. It has reportedly sold access to that data to federal law enforcement agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Gravy Analytics could not be immediately reached for comment.
A spokesperson for Mobilewalla says the company's privacy policies are constantly evolving, adding: “While we disagree with many of the FTC’s allegations and implications that Mobilewalla tracks and targets individuals based on sensitive categories, we are satisfied that the resolution will allow us to continue providing valuable insights to businesses in a manner that respects and protects consumer privacy.”
“This data can be used to identify and target consumers based on their religion,” the FTC says. The location data collected by the two companies makes it possible, the agency says, to “identify where individual consumers lived, worked, and worshipped, thus suggesting the mobile device user’s religion and routine and identifying the user’s friends and families.”
According to the two settlements, which must be finalized in court before they would go into effect, Gravy Analytics and Mobilewalla are barred from collecting sensitive location data from consumers and must delete the historical data they gathered on millions of Americans. Mobilewalla would be banned from acquiring location data and other sensitive information from online auctions known as real-time bidding exchanges, marketplaces where advertisers compete to instantaneously deliver ads to targeted consumers. This case marks the first time the FTC has moved to police the collection of data directly from an ad exchange.
In another first, the proposed Gravy Analytics settlement would introduce military installations to the list of “sensitive locations” where the FTC bans location tracking. Under the terms, the company would be prohibited from selling, disclosing, or using data drawn from these locations, which include mental health clinics, substance abuse centers, and child care service providers.
In November, a collaborative investigation by WIRED, Bayerischer Rundfunk, and Netzpolitik.org revealed that over 3 billion phone location data points, collected by a US-based data broker, exposed the movements of US military and intelligence personnel in Germany. These movements included visits to nuclear vaults and brothels. In that story, WIRED first reported on FTC chair Lina Khan’s efforts to shield US military and intelligence personnel from data brokers.
US senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, who first urged the FTC to take action against Mobilewalla in 2020, praised the announcements, calling the companies’ actions “outrageous violations of Americans’ privacy.”
“These companies enabled US government agencies to surveil Americans without a warrant and enabled foreign countries to spy on service members with just a credit card,” says Wyden, who also previously investigated Venntel with other members of Congress.
While the FTC’s orders don’t directly tackle the issue of government agencies purchasing Americans’ location data—information for which a warrant is normally required—Wyden says the cases nevertheless undermine the government’s case for allowing the purchases. The orders make clear, he says, that federal agencies are hiding behind a “flimsy claim that Americans consented to the sale of their data.”
In a statement, FTC commissioner Alvaro Bedoya notes that while surveillance conducted by private companies won't raise the same constitutional issues as surveillance by government, the difference between the two is “porous if not irrelevant” to the people being watched. "Governments have long relied on private citizens for work that would be impractical or illegal for law enforcement," he says.
Whether the orders against Gravy Analytics and Mobilewalla will be enforced remains to be seen. Major changes are coming to the agency under the future Trump administration—most expected to undermine years of work by Khan and her staff. Many of Donald Trump's allies have been vocally critical of Khan's aggressive pro-consumer approach, including Republican megadonor Elon Musk, who has taken command of an ad hoc office that will purportedly advise the White House on improving “government efficiency.”
FTC commissioner Andrew Ferguson, whose name was floated last month as a potential Khan replacement, partially concurred with the agency’s decision to bring cases against the two data brokers on Tuesday. He agreed the companies had taken insufficient steps to ensure consumer data was properly anonymized, adding that they’d failed to obtain the “meaningfully informed consent” of the consumers they targeted.
Unlike Khan, however, Ferguson argues that the companies did not run afoul of the law by “categorizing consumers based on sensitive characteristics,” such as whether they attend church or political meetings. “These are all public acts that people carry out in the sight of their fellow citizens every day,” he says.
Ferguson likewise chastised the agency for attempting to restrict the power of data brokers to target protesters specifically. “Treating attendance at a political protest as uniquely private and sensitive is an oxymoron,” he says.
In a separate action Tuesday morning, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced it was taking steps to crack down on predatory data brokers that traffic in people’s financial information, calling the practice a gateway for “scamming, stalking, and spying.”
Musk, who donated more than $100 million toward Trump’s reelection, called publicly last week for the bureau to be “deleted.”

ALL THE YEARS AND TIMES PAKISTAN DID TERROR ATTCKS ON INDIA
Hi! you may not know me, but i am going to be an active indian account for Tumblr people from today onwards on exposing the Pakistan that TikTok makes it seems like harmless... it's coming from someone who has suffered enough from the terror attacks from Pakistan, and i will be providing links and all.. so you all can spread this information on TikTok and be aware before supporting a country whose even kids talk about taking over India and forcefully converting them to Islam and torturing them in national advertisements and how their defence ministry full admitted to groom kids from school to fight in war.

This are the attacks that has been done by terror groups. If you think this is lie.. a simple google search prove you what is right and what is wrong, india has been suffering all these attacks in silence and the huge bloody genocide that happen in 1990 of Kashmiri Hindu.. was and will be the most horrific and terrifying events that go down in history. And i will show you something even more horrific.
This photo:

What is so horrifying about this photo? I will tell you what is so horrifying. The person in middle with white clothing and speaking in mic.. is..
This is UN-designated terrorist Hafiz Abdur Rauf, brother of JeM chief Masood Azhar, leading funeral prayers for slain terrorists alongside Pakistani military personnel. so you can imagine who indian army killed, the innocent people they claimed was none other then their fellow terrorist family, and Pakistani media claimed that it was school kids and innocent civilians, which innocent civilians has ak-47s in their school?
Funding Pakistan = Funding Terrorism.
And the lies they spread on internet (Pakistani people) that india attacked lahore city.. and some Indians were making fun of it and one of the Pakistani shared the true video of lahore.. not the ai generated one that they do on tiktok.
Here is the link
The former prime minster of Pakistan talking about that the Pakistan has more than 50 groups.
Translation:
The news reporter: india wants the voice sample of lakhvi.
Imran khan (ex pm): who is this lakhvi? Idk who is it , But listen this is the country.. where I have seen, with my naked eyes many dead bodies in last 10, and everytime i went to hospital i have seen people in most vulnerable state, and you saying that i give you information on one group of terrorist that lives in Pakistan? When there's more than 50, and when one is executed they build the new one.. they target both India and Pakistani people..
Here is another one local public admitting the training sector area of isi in pakistan and how they were given training here.
Here is another one with interview of one of the terrorist.
I am not telling you to support India, or do this or that, all i am saying you all to be aware of whom you are supporting. Don't end up supporting the terrorists. I will reveal few more information soon enough with articles and all. And again.. Pakistan is the country who was in grey list and if you don't know what grey list is..
A grey list, often used in the context of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), refers to jurisdictions under increased monitoring due to deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing (AML/CFT) regimes.
So be aware of whom you fund and support, it's coming from someone.. who has seen a snake shadding it's skin again and again, lying to our faces and someone who lose family members in the Bombay blasts and witness it myself.
Jai hind 🇮🇳!

Mohinder Singh Pujji: The Flying Ace Who Soared to Excellence

Very few men of colour in history are celebrated, especially those during the world wars, and whilst some will receive very little infamy compared to what they're owed, even fewer will receive an ounce of respect that they are owed.
Mohinder Singh Pujji is one of those who is met with silence. His name is unknown and his deeds are not mentioned.
Mohinder was born on the 14th of August, 1918, in Simla, Punjab, India to Sardar Sohan Singh Pujji and Sant Kaur; he was their fourth child. An influential background, Sardar worked in the health and education department as a senior official; this background allowed for Mohinder to go to the Sir Harcourt Butler school, located in Simla. After that, Mohinder went to the Government College in Punjab, and then the Hindu College in Lahore before finally going to study law at Bombay University.
Originally, Mohinder learned to fly as a hobby, receiving his A Licence in April of 1937; at first, he flew between Hardwar and Badrinath for Himalayan Airways. It wasn't long before he caught the attention of Burmah Shell, who sought him out and offered him a job as a Refuelling Superintendent in 1938.
In September of 1939, the second world war broke out, and along with it in December, came the advertisement for pilots who held an A Licence; the advertisement wanted A Licence holders to apply for volunteer service commission for the Indian Air Force. Mohinder knew, his time had arrived, and he put his application in.
Originally formed in 1933, the Indian Air Force had experienced very little growth over the years that lead to Mohinder's application; with only one squadron, it was far from the prosperous, strengthened, air force that it could have been.
With India still beneath the colonial thumb of Britain, the Indian military wasn't expanding at the same rate as their colonisers had been, although there had been some growth; one of these expansions was the development of the Volunteer Reserve commissions to open up to those with an A Licence. A young man of 21, Mohinder Singh Pujji was one of the first of twenty four pilots to be accepted; in the UK, ten of them had already been killed, some through accidents and some through action.

It was early in the year, in 1940, when Mohinder scored his interview in Ambala; the process meant that he was under a microscope from an RAF panel, and unlike many others, Mohinder was accepted and was commissioned on the 1st of August. He went into the 4th Pilots' Course of the Indian Air Force, and was all but immediately seconded; he was sent to the UK.
Travelling by sea, on the SS Strathallan, Mohinder and his comrades arrived in Liverpool on the 1st of October, 1940. However, during this travel, Mohinder was witness to the treatment of people of colour when they stopped in South Africa; he was quoted as saying:
“Our ship stopped in South Africa. I was shocked to see the treatment of Indians and Africans there. I and my colleagues were very angry.”
During this travel, the Battle of Britain was raging in the skies above, whilst Mohinder was grounded on the boat; just as Mohinder and his men finally arrived in the UK, the Battle of Britain was beginning to slow, and beginning to cool off. But, because Mohinder and his comrades were among the very first volunteers from British-controlled colonised countries, a huge amount of publicity swarmed them; they were invited to Windsor Castle to join the very crown who had colonised their countries, and were invited to sit with the Secretary of State Emory.
It seemed that, if you were willing to give your life for the country who destroyed yours, you suddenly had acceptance from the people with blood on their hands.
To begin with, Mohinder was assigned to the Number One RAF Depot in Uxbridge, and took effect as of the 8th of October; it was there that the British finally took notice of his incredible skills in the air. He was then sent to Number Twelve EFTS at RAF Prestwick, where he would begin training at De Havilland Moths. The course was heavily abbreviated, with only seven/eight courses needed to pass - Mohinder did so, with flying colours.
From there, he was sent to attend advanced training at Number Nine Service Flying Training School RAF, at Hullavington. Mohinder completed the course, and was finally given his wings on the 16th of April, 1941.
Of the original twenty four pilots, eighteen passed the courses; six of them would become fighters, and twelve became bombers. Mohinder was a fighter.
Mohinder was then assigned to Number Fifty Six Operational Training at RAF Sutton Bridge; here, he was allowed to train in one of the best, and most legendary, planes of the second world war: the hawker hurricane. Mohinder would even develop a preference for the planes, as he would prefer the hurricanes over the spitfires.
His first taste of combat, however, came when he was posted to Number Forty Three Squadron - the Fighting Cocks - who would go on to produce a number of ace pilots; at the same time, Mohinder requested that he be allowed to wear his turban in the aircraft, and a special cap would need to be created in order to make it accessible so that he could still use his headphones and oxygen mask without taking the turban off.

Mohinder's turban was also displayed on his RAF wings, and became such a prominent and iconic part of his identity that he would be recognised solely for it.
However, it wasn't all fame and glory; Mohinder's main tasks were to make low-level attacks on the German Nazis, a dangerous and daunting task for even the most skilled of fighters. But Mohinder was unique.
He would end up with one hundred and 9 (109) confirmed planes shot down, and a further three damaged.
Mohinder was still just a man, though, and was not invincible; there were two instances when Mohinder was forced down. Incident one happened whilst he was flying over the English Channel; a Messerschmitt had shot at him, and Mohinder had to glide his plane to a crash landing in order to save his life. Unable to swim, Mohinder did not entertain the idea of landing at sea for very long, and quickly switched to crashing on the white cliffs of Dover.
When he crashed, Mohinder checked his head, and found that his turban had been soaked with blood; he was pulled out of the aircraft with severe wounds and injuries, but thanks to his turban, he was destined to make a full, good, recovery. After just a couple of weeks, Mohinder was back in the skies.
Mohinder's turban became even more important to him, and he wore it with great pride; his dedication and strength in his religion became a prominent, shining, part of his character and his personality. Unused to people coming up to him in public, Mohinder was not entirely sure how to deal with it when people would go up to him in the streets of London, and thank him; he was chivalrous, and polite. Kind.
His kindness did not know bounds or borders, though, as when 300 African soldiers under the imperial command of America were lost in Burma, it was Mohinder who took control; he sent out pilots to look for them, and when they did not find them, he sent them out again. He personally flew through the jungle until he found them, and when headquarters demanded proof, he flew out a second time and brought it back. Three hundred lives were saved by the unwavering dedicated of Mohinder.
In 1945, Mohinder was sent to North Africa, where he would be transferred back to the Indian Air Force, and became a Squadron Leader; he was one of few Indian pilots who had fought in all three theatres.
After the war, Mohinder was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross medal.

But things were not going well for Mohinder, and in 1946, he was diagnosed with TB; on the 10th of January in 1947, he was invalided from service due to disability, and his doctors told him that he only had six months left to live. But Mohinder would not give up easily.
For over eight months, Mohinder was hospitalised, and he would organise theatrical productions with other patients; eventually, he made it through, and survived - at the cost of his military career. He was permanently unfit to serve.
Mohinder, unable to serve, would continue to fly in his civilian life as an Aerodrome Officer at Safdarjung Aerodrome in Delhi; he took part in races and gliding events, even going so far as to glide 10, 000 foot hills non-stop from Pune to Belgaum and helped to teach young women in the pastime.
In 1968, Mohinder would participate in the World Gliding Championship in Leszno, Poland, as a team manager for India.
In 1974, Mohinder then moved to Britain permanently; he took up hand-gliding, met Princess Diana (part of the very same colonial family who originally took over his country) in 1991, and was a prominent member of the community. It resulted in him being recognised as a freeman in Newham, and was even invited to meet the queen at Buckingham Palace.
Mohinder's tokenisation by the royal family was a staunch reminder that any of them only cared if they could use it to act as if they didn't survive and thrive off of blood money.
In 2005, Mohinder even took aim at the racist BNP (now reform uk), and told them that their racism was not welcome:
“The BNP are wrong to use the Spitfire as representative of their party. They forget people from different backgrounds helped in the Second World War. I am proof of this –I was flying a Spitfire. I also met Winston Churchill. Even in those days, there were ethnic minorities fighting for the British.”

On the 18th of September, 2010, Mohinder died of a stroke at Darent Valley Hospital, England. He was 92.
Mohinder left behind a legacy of consistent fighting for equality and respect, but also of determination and dedication; a passionate, strong willed, and intelligent fighter pilot, there was no other like him - a man who stood up to racism, fascism, and who never changed himself or watered himself down for the sake of white supremacy in a nation that had killed thousands of his countrymen.

Do you know why Indians in particular (and I suppose, new age spiritualists) believe in things like homeopathy or ayurveda(like ashwagandha)? I've always found it so odd, even growing up in india. It's clear that some of these beliefs are marketing schemes, like saying A2 (Indian cows) milk > A1(foreign cows) to the point that they sell A2 cow milk and butter at 10x-20x the price of A1 cow milk. All because of "Vedic" practices (prayers and conducting rituals) of cow rearing. We know that ayurveda especially has no clinical or empirical evidence. It's all anecdotal. But even I was taught to believe that turmeric is a good antioxidant and is great for colds. In reality, only about 2% of turmeric is absorbed by your body. Are indians just more gullible because of Hinduism or is it just willful ignorance because they want to feel some sort of superiority in their spirituality?
Lots of love, thank you for continuing to post!! 💛💛 Hope you're doing well.
A big chunk of it may well be the lack of penetration of criticism and mockery of these superstitions, both for cultural and language reasons.
There's a saying that "sunlight is the best disinfectant." This isn't literally true, it's a metaphor for the notion that exposing ideas to the light of scrutiny, examination and refutation helps to break down and destroy false or bad ideas.
To some extent, the persistence of these superstitions may be that they've not been well exposed to public view to the extent many others have been.
Islam has in its doctrine, the curative and medicinal properties of camel urine. To the extent it's packaged and sold as medicine in the present day solely because in multiple hadiths, Muhammad prescribed camel urine for ailments. People don't know about this, don't believe it or start making excuses about "natural remedies" and the limitations of "western medicine." Even while the World Health Organization calls for people to stop drinking it.
Outside India, there's a certain anti-western chauvinism, coupled with a fetishization of "exotic" cultures. Which is really just the Appeal to Nature and Appeal to Tradition fallacies. But are ripe to be exploited by con artists (e.g. Deepak Chopra) for sale to the credulous who mistake their trendy credulity for "open mindedness." Even though the same people would never be so gullible about superstitions based on Xian mythology.
What this means is that a protective bubble forms around these superstitions because attacking primitive, superstitious nonsense hogwash becomes a "racist" attack on a "culture." You're allowed to - and encouraged to - criticize and attack Xian faith-healing, but not Hindu faith-healing because that's just intolerant of a "culture." Note that this means they want Indian culture to be mired in primitive superstitions.
Internal to India, I think a big part is just that it's so dominant and there isn't the tradition of secularism - separation of church/religion and state - which means religious faith holds more sway. Coupled with more explicit moves in recent years to mirror Islam in offence and fragility regarding "blasphemy" - see the whole "Sexy Kali" thing, for example.
In contrast, in the US, there's been legal challenges mounted against homeopathy as fraud and false advertising under consumer protection laws. If there's no evidence of efficacy, government safety organizations in countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand either don't allow a product to be sold as "medicinal," or don't allow it to be sold at all.
I don't know enough about Indian law to know how robust Indian safety or consumer laws are in terms of leveraging them to call out the same kinds of fraud, but what you're saying about the milk suggests they might not be. It's essentially a claim of "magic milk," given there could be no scientific test that such a claim could survive.
So, there's this absence of pressure from both internal and external. And as we know from evolution, it's pressure which drives change.
People need to be willing to treat Indian and Hindu superstitions the same as they treat Xian superstitions and other unscientific bunk, rejecting attacks on the basis of "racism" or "blasphemy" or "intolerance" or all the usual shit. But I think there also needs to be avenues culturally and legally within India to start challenging the assertions being made. I don't know enough about Indian society or culture to know how much of a superiority complex may be at play, but there is likely an element of ignorance, not necessarily wilful, just regular old ignorance, because of the pervasiveness and persistence of these ideas.
Of course, people are still free to believe stupid shit. But that doesn't mean it should get special, elevated status or be allowed to commit acts of rampant fraud.

ThredUp Haul
I ordered these four pieces, to faux match into a Hindu appropriate set.
White linen dress, final sale, very worn.
Ivory blouse that was advertised as 100% cotton but it's actually cotton with a 100% rayon lining. No pockets. Was a bit expensive.
Expensive and used coral dress that is a very tropical and beachy sort of thing. 50/50 cotton with rayon blend. (It's my favorite color)
J.jill peachy pink coral cardigan. Final sale. 100% cotton.
Right before I checked out, the coral cardigan turned into final sale but I decided to go for it anyway. It's my favorite color, cotton, and a cardigan with pockets which is essential for teaching. 😅 Ifykyk.
Anyway. I love the cardigan and it goes well with basic outfit but I'm torn if I want to keep the dress and shirt combos.
The white dress is also final sale BUT I caught a huge stain on it that wasn't advertised.
I love the white dress but I just don't know how often I'd wear it and if that stain is gonna come out, so that's a bummer. But I think for sure I'm returning the white top and the pink dress.

Edit: I started the return process and they refunded me but I got to keep the pieces. Whaaaat. 😳🫣
