Decode Politics: Why PM Modi is Talking About ‘Bandarbant’ in Himachal
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently sparked a political firestorm with his claims at rallies in Nahan and Mandi, accusing the Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government of mismanaging flood relief funds. Modi’s assertion that the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu government distributed National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) money indiscriminately has led to heated exchanges between the BJP and Congress leaders.
Tumblr media
PM Modi’s Allegations
At the rallies, PM Modi alleged, “The Centre sent hundreds of crores of rupees to the state government after last year’s disaster, but those funds were distributed indiscriminately. Mark my words, this government’s collapse is imminent. I promise you that I will account for every single paisa from them and put it in the hands of Mandi’s people.”
What Funds Was Modi Referring To?
The funds in question are part of the NDRF and SDRF, with Himachal Pradesh receiving a total of Rs 1,148 crore in relief (Rs 360.80 crore from SDRF and Rs 787.25 crore from NDRF) over 2023 and 2024. These funds are critical for immediate disaster response, with the SDRF being the primary resource for state governments and the NDRF supplementing it when disasters are particularly severe.
The Alleged ‘Bandarbant’ (Indiscriminate Distribution)
Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Jairam Thakur, claims that the Himachal government distributed relief funds selectively, favoring Congress supporters and not following proper procedures. He argues that cash distributions were made manually by local leaders, which is against the rules that mandate bank transfers for amounts exceeding Rs 25,000. Additionally, Thakur alleges that the state government raised compensation amounts arbitrarily, such as increasing the amount for a completely damaged house from Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 7 lakh without proper procedures.
Himachal Pradesh Government’s Response
The state government has denied these allegations. A senior official from the Department of Revenue and Disaster Management stated that NDRF and SDRF funds are spent strictly according to Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines. Naresh Chauhan, the principal adviser (media) to CM Sukhu, dismissed Modi’s claims as baseless, accusing local BJP leaders of spreading misinformation rather than helping secure more funds from the Centre. He also refuted the claim that relief money was distributed in cash.
Congress’s Accusations Against the Centre
In response, Chief Minister Sukhu and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi have accused the Centre of neglecting Himachal Pradesh’s needs. After the severe floods in July-August 2023 that killed 441 people and damaged over 14,000 houses, the state government requested Rs 9,900 crore in disaster relief from the Centre, which has not been fully met. Despite launching its own relief fund and appealing for donations, the state received only Rs 360 crore under the SDRF from the Centre in December 2023.
Conclusion
The ongoing political tussle between the BJP and Congress over disaster relief funds in Himachal Pradesh highlights deeper issues of fund allocation, disaster management, and political accountability. As the state rebuilds from last year’s devastating floods, these accusations and counter-accusations are likely to shape the political landscape leading up to future elections.

There is good news for the people of Himachal Pradesh. Due to the employment problem, the government is planning to provide 20,000 government jobs in Himachal by the end of this year. The opposition party is continuously cornering the ruling Congress government. The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party said that during the elections, Congress had promised to provide 500,000 jobs, but ever since Congress came to power, people have been deprived of jobs, leave alone jobs. Sukh government minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan also responded to the allegations and hit back at BJP.

Air's End-of-Year Youtube Video Rec-List Round-Up
In light of recent events and also because I wanted to, I have put together a rec list of various (mostly longform) videos that I've enjoyed this year. Not all of these videos were released this year, however-- I just happened to see them for the first time in 2023. For readability and quality of life purposes, I have put this list under a readmore and divided the videos up by category, then creator, which means that some youtube channels might appear in multiple categories
I reserve the right to edit this later as I remember more videos, but I feel comfortable publishing it as is, considering it has almost 100 videos on it at this point

Indian Election Results (Part 3)
Part 3 is here and I reallyyy hope it's the last one.
Independent candidates lead in Jammu & Kashmir with 3 individual seats, BJP in tow with 2. Congress remained on zero. Independent candidate wins the only seat in Ladakh.
BJP shocks in Himachal Pradesh by winning all 4 seats. Modi factor shines here because despite being in power in the Vidhaan Sabha, Congress remains on the zero mark. Personally, I believe that the credit to Kangana Ranaut's Mandi win is due to Modi Ji's campaign, because Kangana's speech during the campaigns are lack charisma.
Congress isn't able to bring it's phoenix rise in Uttarakhand, remaining on zero while BJP wins all 5 seats.
10 seats of Haryana are equally divided b/w BJP and Congress with both 5 seats each. Congress also wins the 1 seat of Chandigarh.
The 50-50 division is also seen in Goa, where both parties win 1 seat each.
INDIA sweeps Punjab with Congress winning 7 seats, AAP 3 and Akaali Dal 1. BJP loses 2 seats, falling on zero. Even if Congress leads here and it's been year since the incident, I'll forever be bitter that they let go of Amrinder Singh. He practically revived Congress in Punjab, highly experienced.
In Sikkim, Regional Party {Sikkim Krantikari Morcha} wins the 1 seat.
BJP leads with 9 seats in Assam, Congress getting 3 and Regional Party {Asom Gana Parishad} getting 1.
To no one's surprise, Congress with the 2 seats of Manipur. BJP remains on zero, rightfully so. No one is more right in voting against BJP than the Manipur public.
Both BJP and Congress remain on zero as Independent candidate wins 1 seat in Mizoram.
Congress wins the only seat of Nagaland.
BJP wins 2 seats of Tripura and 2 seats of Arunachal Pradesh, Congress remains on zero.
Independent candidate and Congress win 1 seat each in Meghalaya, BJP on the zero mark.
Congress wins the 1 seat of Lakshdweep, 1 seat of Pondicherry while BJP wins 1 seat of Andaman & Nicobar.
That's it I guess! I think I covered all the states in these 3 parts, but do tell if I forgot some.

Former CM Shettar quits BJP
Former Dy CM Savadi quits BJP
Former Dy CM Eshwarappa retires
Sitting MP Sanganna quits BJP
With more than 40 BJP rebels in the fray - the arrogance of Delhi BJP leaders is ensuring that the BJP will sink below 40 seats in Karnataka.
A cartel of a few BJP leaders who are close to Delhi leadership are trying to finish all competition including Yediyurappa & Somanna in this election.
Massive anti-incumbency already plagues this 40% Commission Govt and now with rebels and senior leaders quitting BJP (much worse situation than Himachal Pradesh), Karnataka will finally be BJP Mukt and PayCM will lose.
Congress campaign on the contrary is running smoothly with the 4 guarantees of YuvaNidhi, Anna Bhagya, Gruhalakshmi and 200 units free striking a chord among the masses and smooth ticket distribution.
Like @RahulGandhi said, Congress is heading towards a massive majority of 150 seats.
Congress 150, BJP May be less than 25 🔥🔥

by Subhash Chandra Agrawal After shocking incident of adulterated ghee found used in holy prasad of laddoos in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam during earlier regime, it has become necessary to take preventive steps to ensure that such adulterated desi ghee may not be used by confectioners and eateries which should be directed to place bigger-sized photos of pack-labels of desi ghee used by them depicting clearly brand-name and other information of the manufacturer of desi ghee on their sign-boards.  This information should be mandatorily shared by them with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). It is quite common that harmful oils and animal-facts are widely being used at road-side dhabas, and in some eateries in name of butter. Central and state governments should take necessary steps whereby such spurious ‘butter’ may not be possible to be used. Taking cognisance of alleged incidents of spitting and mixing urine in eatables in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath rightly directed that the name and address of operators, proprietors and managers should be displayed at all food centres making it compulsory for chefs and waiters to wear masks and gloves, besides making installation of CCTV cameras compulsory in hotels and restaurants. Even minister Vikramaditya Singh in Congress-led Himachal Pradesh government desired to follow the same pattern. With so many Rohangias and Bangladeshis present in India, such steps should be mandatorily taken by all states keeping aside pseudo-secular politics. Celebrating World Vegetarian Day on 1st October Central government should propagate vegetarianism on lines of Yoga internationally by ensuring only vegetarian food to be served in all government-parties. Even foreign dignitaries will find it a welcome change to taste renowned Indian vegetarian food at a time when Indian housewives are supposed to be best cooks amongst ladies world-wide. Sale of meat is already prohibited in accordance with sentiments of majority Hindus in holy cities like Ayodhya and Mathura. Vegetarianism is spreading fast worldwide with celebration of World Vegetarian Day on every 1st October. Government of India should approach United Nations to celebrate 1st October as Vegetarian Day on lines of Yoga Day. Central and state governments should order that hotels, restaurants and eateries may have separate kitchens and kitchen-wares to cook non-vegetarian food, prominently displaying about adoption of such practice inside and outside their premises. Such display will rather increase their business because of increase of vegetarian clientele preferring separate kitchens and kitchenware for cooking vegetarian food. Branded packed food-items should replace freshly cooked food in schools and trains News reports frequently appear about insects, frogs, lizards, rats etc. apart from sub-standard raw-material like rice and pulses with lot of foreign ingredients reportedly used to cook mid-day meal in schools. There have been many incidents of kids falling ill after taking fresh cooked meal in schools. Only packaged food preferably baked food should be served in schools to ensure hygiene. It will also take care of peculiar food-habits of some children like avoiding onion and garlic. Thirty Parliamentarians once appealed to government for packaged biscuits procured from reputed companies recommended by Mumbai-based Biscuits Manufacturers Welfare Association (BMWA) to replace cooked food in Mid-Day meal-scheme. Government can save money by inspiring big manufacturers of packaged food to sponsor the programme by getting publicity of their trade-name in return. Even corporates can be asked to fund Mid-Day meal scheme with packaged food supplied under Corporate-Social-Responsibility, mandatory for big companies. Extend scope of IRCTC widely to prepare packaged food for schools and trains Units of Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC) should be set up in every district of the country which may also produce baked items.
Packaged food-products prepared by IRCTC can be provided as mid-day meal in schools and for train-passengers where also there are frequent complaints in freshly cooked meal. IRCTC products then can be sold in open market also for developing a healthy competition with private companies to sell quality products at economical prices. Initial funding required for such mega-project of IRCTC can be generated through long-term tax-free bonds. It will also provide large scale employment even in rural areas preventing migration to cities in search of employment. Adulterated Honey Supreme Court on 19.04.2021 had sought comments of central and state governments on reports of adulterated honey being marketed in India even in popular brands of renowned companies where some special type of sugar imported from Chine mixed with honey bypasses tests as required by Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). Research done by Centre for Science and Environment says that only three out of 70 samples of honey being marketed in India could pass internationally accepted NMR spectroscopy test. If the report is correct, then it is playing with lives of Indian people because diabetic people consume honey because honey is otherwise considered safe for diabetic people. FSSAI should adopt internationally accepted NMR spectroscopy test for giving sale-permission for honey. Co-operative giant Amul ranking 15th in top 100 most valuable food brands in the world – needs to be encouraged further in larger public-interest of India It is a matter of pride for cooperative sector in India when Amul ranked 15th in top 100 most valuable food-brands in the world according to the Brand Finance Food and Drink 2021 report with private-sector Britannia being the only other Indian company to find 54th place. Such units in public or co-operative sector should be encouraged by providing government-facilities including subsidized land to set up more units in a manner that other Indian companies both in private and public sector may be motivated to be likewise ranked internationally. Successful bid of Amul to get Delhi Milk scheme (DMS) on lease should be accepted, may be after some increase in lease-amount through table-negotiation to effectively utilize national resources and to eliminate heavy recurring loss of DMS to the public exchequer. Managements of public sector IRCTC and Mother Dairy should be pulled for not finding place in top 100 most valuable food-brands in the world despite heavy public-money invested in these public-sector companies. Dual pricing of water-bottles and food-items must not be allowed Famous branded companies marketing in packaged water-bottles and cold drinks have dual pricing for same product, one normal price for open-market sale, and the other higher one to be sold in flights, theatres and five-starred hotels etc. This anti-consumer practice must be stopped.  Best is to set up water-bottling plants of Rail-Neer marketed by IRCTC in different parts of the country. Wastage of food: Serving food in marriage-related functions be banned At a time when a large number of people in India are deprived of food in present era of heavy prices of vegetables and other food-items, it is indeed a matter of great regret that large quantity of food is wasted in marriage-related functions. Even in buffet-system, people often take food-items much more than consumed throwing large quantity of food-items as waste. There should be a ban on serving food in marriage-parties.  Only soft drinks and beverages should be allowed. It will also make marriage-functions affordable by common people.   Writer is Guinness World Record Holder for writing most letters and RTI Consultant

CONgress gov of Himachal Pradesh is the literal example of a shitty government! As of October 2024, CONgress gov will charge Rs 25 per toilet seat. They have already charging Rs 100 for water connection, Sewage bill of 30% on top of your water bill and an Rs 25 per toilet seat in the house!
What they haven't clarified is, if its an Indian style toilet, which has no seat, will the tax still apply?
Will someone come and check each and every building to see how many 'toilet seats' you have?
This tax will be applied to every toilet in every house, shop, office, hotel, hospital and even schools!
During the election, RaGa mentioned that he wants to do an X-Ray of what everyone has and owns in the country - he didn't clarify it will start with the toilet in your home!
If this is where they are willing to start, just imagine how far they will go! There is nothing to say CONgress wont tax you for every single item in your home!
Instead of a swach and viksit Bharat, is this how the I.N.D.I.A. alliance wants to bring India to the 21st Century!

Despite his declining health, Kejriwal remains incarcerated in the now-defunct liquor policy case. The rally, featuring Congress, SP, RJD, TMC, DMK, CPI, CPI(M-L), NCP (SP), and Shiv Sena (UBT), aims to demonstrate opposition unity. AAP has accused the BJP of attempting to harm Kejriwal, citing medical reports of his deteriorating health.
