Tape for Joanne…
A bed in a room isn’t just a place on a bus…
It’s everything about you when you’re growing up…
What’s up on the wall is what’s made the cut…
It’s not about what’s cool, it’s says a lot about us…
I wish it’d been perfect but nothing was…
You’re carful what you say if you don’t know who to trust…
You stay out of the way when you’re pushed and shoved…
Show me the alcohol, give me the drugs…
Nothing is certain, even what you think you might know..
The days stick around and the nights fly by and go…
What’s in the charts that I can record off the radio…?
No social media or internet to browse or to post…
Can’t talk to friends at a distance like this…
Can’t send emails or text messages…
Things like that just don’t exist…
Everyone’s out of reach but we’re all still just kids…
There’s no way back again from this reset…
Am I still a presence or did you start to forget…
I didn’t want to be this out of touch and out of step…
Flick down on the mic, press record on the cassette…
No magic tricks you get what you get…
I’m no jam master on the record decks…
A few cd’s and a bit of time to invest…
Let’s put this Phillips stacking hifi to the test…
Draw on any influence but what do I use…
We might still be contiguous but still in different rooms…
Remember my brother? well he’s here too…
We wanted to put something together for you…..
It’s more about him but he doesn’t realise it…
We grew up right next to each other but now I don’t exist…
There’s more to offer with us both in the mix…
I didn’t want to grow up and apart like this…
Beverly Hills 90210…….
I wanted Jason Priestly’s hair and clothes…
I found some of myself in those kind of tv shows…
When real life didn’t even come close…
No WhatsApp just what’s what the fuck is happening…
You talk in stereo and I’m still practicing
You always know what to say, I can’t say anything…
This is your show, take the batten and keep it running…..
You drop the vocals, I’ll fade in and fade out…
Graphically equalised but give me a shout..
How well do we know Jo? That’s not what it’s about…
Whatever I want to say is coming out of your mouth…
Before sixteen I don’t think I was filled with much hope…
Raymond Briggs, apocalypse, in the wind as it blows…
Send and receive anything as long as it’s in the post…
Teen magazines, tv and radio taught me the most…
Nothing in school for a twin with separation anxiety…
I kept my head down but they still kicked the shit out of me…
It was the only bit of continuity…
Even the fucking fashion police knew of me…
What’s the pathology for substance abuse…?
Tripping on your laces or jumping through hoops…
The training is basic, you pick and you chose…
Take what you can from it but nothing‘s of any use…
Hypocrites give out signals and virtues…
There’s no one to look for or up to…
Its a cage fight and I’m living in the venue…
My parents hated each other and we’re the living proof…
It’s just me and Neil Finn together alone…
He’s just about the only one I think understands…
I’m in trouble but not yet in the back of a van…
I’m a boy in training to become a madman…
When you say no, can I change your mind…?
Do you get me when you’re in the right frame of mind…?
How do I get ahead when I’ve fallen this far behind…
Asking for your help to have my own chance to shine…
Can you be part of this? I think you can…
Opportunities not to miss, let’s launch our brand…
Ready to go live and get with the programme…
Can you B on the A side…it’s a tape for Joanne………?

The amp, unfortunately, is not so easy to check - if the speakers test OK and the amp doesn't work, it more than likely is defective and needs to be repaired or replaced. Q:Speaker wire sparks when they touch? The speaker coils can be checked simply by momentarily connecting a 1.5 volt flash light battery across the terminals - the speaker will emit a low volume thud each time the speaker is quickly connected across the battery if it's functioning. Two 8ohm speakers wired in series will result in your amp seeing a 16ohm load which is OK for your amp, but at 16ohms it will only output half as much power, and now between two speakers. together) will result in your receiver seeing a 4ohm load, which could overload your amp. Street Level: Days Of Future Past
Tumblr media
Lazy Pluto (left) with Sonny Chiba (right)
This Saturday marks the launch of “Street Level,” a new night at Habitat Living Sound dedicated to electronic music’s grassroots genres.
The first instalment features local DJs Sonny Chiba, Lazy Pluto, DJ Dine & Dash, and Dr. Space. Together, these four artists cover a large spectrum of obscure, nostalgia-driven genres within electronic music that are rapidly trending.
The night was initially envisioned by DJ Sonny Chiba (Cody Freele), a figure who’s played throughout the city for close to a decade, and who’s played a role in many recent highly acclaimed startup nights.
“It was coming out of a love of a genre that a lot of people pay homage to without knowing, and a lot of people don't realize influenced where they're at,” says Freele.
“What I wanted to do is strip it down back to its rooted form and kind of build it from there.
“And obviously I'm speaking about acid and acid house.”
In addition to acid, Freele also lists the genres “lo-fi house” and electro as characterizing the night. What these genres have in common is that they were some of electronic music’s first genres, and their modern counterparts are created in an environment that’s an online equivalent of a street-level gathering.
They take place on outlets like Bandcamp, Soundcloud radio stations, and blogs. They’re all environments driven mostly by common people with no ties to major labels or distributors.
The genres are also linked by their simplicity. Acid house and electro, for example, were heavily based around Roland drum machines that were released in the 1980’s. This primitivism, says Freele, is something modern artists are trying to replicate to achieve a rawness that stands out in today’s climate of high production values.
“I just really like the fact that [acid house] it's a retro piece of music dating back to like 1987 that's just as relevant now,” says Freele.
“The same sounds and instruments are being utilized now more than they were when they were conceived back in the 80’s, so I think it's a nice resurgence.
“I think it's just time to kind of pay homage, and at the same time build something new and fresh within it.”
In addition to their composition, these genres are also “street” in their general attitude.
“I think I think if you look at the history of the musical landscape of acid music, electro, vogue house, all these things, it's always been rooted in nightlife and obscure cultures of its day,” says Freele.
“Vogue had the gays of New York, and acid house had the Chicago ravers and obviously the hedonistic lifestyle personified with that.
“The music screams attitude to me, and I think it's a soundtrack to the city and the streets.”
After Freele came up with the idea he approached longtime friend and fellow DJ Lazy Pluto (Jade Krogh) about being part of the lineup.
Under his former alias “Ancient Kroun,” Krogh was a resident of Northern Lights, a Wednesday night showcase at the Hifi Club that ran from 2010 to 2015 and was known for its relentless innovation and experimentation.
“When I was originally playing, I was with the most avant-garde guys in the city, they're master producers, and I was lucky to be in that crew at all,” says Krogh.
“And it was probably because of my obscure unique taste, which continues to carry on.”
As Krogh notes, however, the obscure nature of the music meant that it was sometimes difficult to attract people during the week.
“It was a struggle to fill that room even when you had world class artists that would fill a huge room in Europe, in Calgary you would fight to get 70 people, 80 people, and it was probably because it was a Wednesday night,” says Krogh.
“So the fact that we can bring an avant-garde sound to a club, a small club on a Saturday night, it’s going to blow up.”
After Northern Lights ended, its roster of DJs temporarily scattered throughout Canada. Although Krogh remained in Calgary he took a hiatus from performing.
It was the prospect of being able to play music that he’d observed from the other side of the world that drew him back in.
“I can confidently say that the sound that we're going to have in our night is probably not being played too many other places in North America,” says Krogh.
“I honestly believe that this is seriously a sound that's pulled straight from Europe, I haven't heard much of this kind of sound at all.”
Freele agrees, noting that Europe has been the main pressure cooker for these genres in recent years.
“It's funny because it all originated in Chicago, but the Europeans embraced it because they got it,” says Freele.
“And what we're hoping to bring to the landscape of Calgary, and you know more North America for that matter, is just kind of embracing that, and realizing that it is rooted in our culture as well without us even knowing it.”
It’s this new update that Europe, and pockets of innovation through North America, have given the genres that the roster of Street Level hopes to showcase.
“The night's going to be more focused on how the new school has adopted the old sound,” says Freele.
“We will have our classic acid [Roland] TB-303 [synthesizer] jams that we're going to play, and anthems that we all recognize and like to pay homage to, but it's a future focused night.
“The beautiful thing about it is what's old is new again, so even though it's a future focused night on artists and genres and whatnot, it's got an old school retro sound that's never sounded better,”
This is precisely why Freele and Krogh sought out DJ Dine & Dash (Liam Mackenzie), to join the roster. Mackenzie specializes in lo-fi house, a genre that’s achieved notoriety in recent years after a handful of tracks went viral on YouTube. His productions also pull elements from classic sounds like disco and 1990’s R&B.
Krogh first met Mackenzie at Northern Lights, and believes he’s maintained a steady focus on electronic music’s cutting edge ever since.
“The people who were there on a regular basis are pretty much very predominant players of the scene,” says Krogh.
“They're the guys that are still actually bushwhacking, and they're blazing trails still, not just in production, production very much so, but also in their nights.
“It's really nice to see that the people who have that craving for a unique sound are running the ship.”
The Street Level crew hopes to turn the night into a regular occurrence, and eventually branch out into hosting parties outside of the club circuit. Their immediate goal for Saturday, however, is to use this music to hopefully draw new audiences to the floor of Habitat.
“I want to have people who don't necessarily think about a night like this being something they're into, finding out that it's exactly what they've been looking for,” says Freele.
While the names and histories of the genres may be esoteric, they were ultimately created with ordinary people in mind, and this is what’s given them longevity and appeal across the globe for three decades.

Hi! Have the same problem, so here's what helps me:
Advices for eating with Hifi
+ if you have a friend to whom you can tell about this problem and they can check on you by gently asking you what you had for meal that day that helps so much. They shouldnt pressure you tho. If you need me to do that for you lmk
+ if you live with someone (who you like, most likely) it's helps me to eat together with that person, not alone
+ it also extremely helps me watching yt videos about food while I eat, then I feel like it's a good thing to eat and just idk. Helps a lot. I love Hells Kitchen and vegan recipes videos (cos vegan food is just nice to watch). I don't recommend Kitchen nightmares and such where there is lots of really bad food. If food videos don't feel nice to you try just watching a normal movie/TV show so you will focus on that and not on eating which in general helps a lot
+ your local crisis center might help you if you need someone to talk to
Now some tips about the actual food!
+ it's easier to drink then to eat. Smoothies, BABY FOOD, drinkable yogurts, protein shake! These are you biggest friends. Especially if you're so hungry your stomach is too tight for proper food. Also sugary drinks, soda or juices, will get you some nice calories. Especially your brain needs lots of sugar!
+ get some vitamins and take these. Once again, I love these tablets that you put in water cos then you have tasty sparkling water
+ don't care if it's "healthy" or whatever fuck. We have bigger problems to face. I can be healthy when I'm not mentally ill
+ usually simpler meals are somehow more appealing. Crackers with cream cheese? Scrambled eggs with bread? Croquettes? Oh yeah, that's the jam. If you can bear more complex food tho, please do.
+ every food is a good food at this point. Have a treat, have a cake, have an ice cream. This is a survival! And it tastes good you know
Last but not least:
+ remember you're not alone in this. There's so many people struggling with eating, you don't even wanna know. As a psychology student I'm telling you that our bodies reacting to severe stress/illness (physical or mental) with not eating is normal reaction to such situations! Don't worry. You will get though this.
I put this together on my phone to sorry for typos and such
It's an incredibely slow day at work but my boss insists that I need to be here and sit on my ass and do nothing
So I finally finished reading that article about snail neurons and feeding
The fun thing is that my depression has been getting worse again lately
Which means I don't feel like eating even though I'm fucking starving
But I need to eat and I'm looking at our menu and I can't fucking pick anything bc I don't feel like eating so I can't pick what I want to eat because I don't want to eat
And I know I feel like shit because I'm hungry
I can't fucking feed myself while I read an article about snails feeding

Approaching the programming with passion, knowledge and heart, Outlook has cemented it’s place as one of the leading festival promoters worldwide. Although hosting thousands each year, Outlook still runs with a family feel, with artists and party people coming back, year-on-year, to experience and discover new music on world class, bespoke sound systems. From next-level settings and hedonistic boat parties to the Opening Concert (this year with David Rodigan, Bonobo, Wiley, Children of Zeus) and Zerostrasse tunnel parties (Levelz and friends + more TBA), the team have never shied away from taking things to the next level, whilst staying firmly grounded to their roots.   SEE YOU AT THE FORT !   Stage breakdown artwork : http://bit.ly/O17Stages   OUTLOOK FESTIVAL STAGES   THE CLEARING : THURSDAY : "RAM JAM" - REGGAE ROAST & NATTY CAMPBELL - JOHNNY OSBOURNE & SOUL STEREO (FATTA) - MISS RED - IRATION STEPPAS - DAVID RODIGAN - SHY FX & DYNAMITE - CHIMPO FRIDAY : ANDY H - THE HEATWAVE - STEFFLON DON - NADIA ROSE - MIST - LEVELZ - DJ HYPE - & EKSMAN - SASASAS SATURDAY - ANDY C PRESENTS :  SPECTRASOUL - NOISIA & 2SHY - ANDY C & TONN PIPER - RANDALL & GQ - MC'S - 2SHY - GQ - TONN PIPER SUNDAY OUTLOOK X APPLESAP : KOJEY RADICAL - OCEAN WISDOM (45 mins) - J HUS (45 mins) - AJ TRACEY (60 min set) - LADY LESHURR - JAYKAE - DUB PHIZIX & STRATEGY   THE VOID THURSDAY "CRUCAST" : SIRRAH - MR VIRGO - NOTION - SKEPSIS & BRU-C - DARKZY & BRU C MACKY GEE (SPECIAL GUEST) - LAZCRU - CRU CAST BACK TO BACK FRIDAY : "DEEP MEDI" : MALA - SILKIE - COMMODO - GOTH-TRAD - KAHN - TRUTH - GANTZ - KAIJU - JACK SPARROW - COMPA - CRAZY D - SUN OF SELAH SATURDAY "DISPATCH RECORDINGS V SYMMETRY" : BOSTON - ZERO T B2B - BETA2 - ANT TC1 - BREAK - DLR - TOTAL SCIENCE - KYRIST - MC'S - DRS - VISIONOBI SUNDAY "DMZ" - DISTANCE V - PINCH - HATCHA V YOUNGSTA (BLOODLINE) - DIGITAL MYSTIKZ (MALA & COKI) V LOEFAH - KAHN & NEEK - JOE NICE V N-TYPE - CRAZY D - SGT POKES   THE MOAT THURSDAY - TBA FRIDAY - SILAS & SNARE - TASH LC - MARTHA - DJ LAG - BARELY LEGAL - KILLA P SATURDAY SLIMZOS V MEAN STREETS - SLIMZEE - TRENDS & BOYLAN - GRANDMIXXER - SPOOKY - D.O.K - AS IF KID - YGG - MC'S - JAMAKABI - KILLA P - IRAH - MANGA SUNDAY FOR THE LOVE OF GARAGE -  BUMP AND GRIND - MOONY - MIKE DELINQUENT MJ COLE - ZED BIAS - ONEMAN - Hosts - ILLA MAN   SUBDUB ARENA THURSDAY - SWAMP 81 - CHUNKY - ORSON b2b - HOPS - PINCH - LOEFAH - MADAM X - LAMONT - MC'S CHUNKY - T-MAN FRIDAY -  WALK N SKANK - SINAI SOUND - DUB SMUGGLERS - REGGAE ROAST feat NATTY CAMPBELL - MUNGO'S HIFI feat - CHARLIE P, EVA LAZARUS, GARDNA & KILLA P - DANNY T & TRADESMAN = PART2STYLE SATURDAY - SINAI SOUND - CHANNEL ONE JAH SHAKA SUNDAY - "SUBDUB 20" : SAMMY DREADLOCKS - DUBKASM - MAASAI WARRIOR - IRATION STEPPAS - O.B.F FEAT - SHANTI D, CHARLIE P & SR WILSON   THE GARDEN THURSDAY : ONE87 - ZED BIAS B2B - FIXATE - BLOCKS & ESCHER - DBRIDGE B2B GOLDIE - SKEPTICAL - ANT TC1 - RANDALL B2B DOC SCOTT - SP:MC - STRATEGY - AD - ILLA MAN FRIDAY :  "25 YEARS OF V RECORDINGS" : SAFIRE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE & LOWQUI - JUMPING JACK FROST - BRYAN GEE & DYNAMITE - DILLINJA & LOWQUI - DJ MARKY & GQ - SERUM -  DYNAMITE MC - GQ - LOWQUI SATURDAY  - HATCHA & FRIENDS : FINWA B2B GENO COCHINO - SUKH KNIGHT - J:KENZO B2B - DISTANCE - TRUTH B2B - N-TYPE - HATCHA & - CRAZY D - CHEF - ZED BIAS B2B CHIMPO - MC'S : CRAZY D - SGT POKES SUNDAY : "SPEARHEAD"  - BLAZIN - RIYA - VILLEM & MCLEOD MC TEMPZA BCEE & MC TEMPAZ - CALIBRE & DRS - LENZMAN & VISIONOBI - S.P.Y & LOWQUI - DRS - LOWQUI - VISIONOBI - MC TEMPZA   THE BEACH THURSDAY : KINKAI - YAZMIN LACEY - POPPY ADUJHA - NUBYA GARCIA W/ EZRA COLLECTIVE (LIVE - JAZZ) - ALLEY CAT - LIQUID V - 25 YEARS - ZERO T - BRYAN GEE - MARKY B2B - PATIFE MC'S GQ FRIDAY : ANDY H - FREE WIZE MEN - INKA- MALI HAYES - LAYFULLSTOP - S4U - PEANUT BUTTER WOLF - FLOHIO- LEVELZ SATURDAY : KATBROWNSUGAR - EDA - JOHNNY BE GOOD - BRAIN HOLIDAYS (LIVE) - JOHNNY CLARKE & THE DUB ASANTE BAND (live) - ISEO & DODO SOUND - JAMIE RODIGAN -NUMA CREW SUNDAY : REAL ROOTS FT. Pomegranate Sounds' third "Sleepless Nights" show on Colorado's KGNU Community Radio is out now via AfterFM! Loaded up with choice tunes from bass to funk to jam to jungle, plus plenty of eclectic selections. An archival interview feature with Jacky Murda [Chopstick Dubplate & JingBong Ting] is about 1hr15min in... Special thanks to Jacky Murda for the wonderful interview back in 2015 (check out the full NiceUp piece), to Terry Ganzie for the dubplate opener, to EchoSlim, FlipSwitch PR, High Smile HiFi, Jahtari, FATdrop, and Micah Shemaiah for the promo, and to all the artists for making (many sharing for free) such quality music. Respect. You should also check out my NiceUp interview with Red Robin, which is combined with a review of his label's debut 12". 12. surprise kissing them
“Hi Beta I...” HiFi squeaked as Beta wrapped her up in his arms, giving her a kiss. She laughed a little against him, arms and feeler wrapped around him. “I guess you missed me?”

HiFi had been wandering a little bit since her latest upgrade, wanting to see how well she fit into old nooks and crannies she remembered from being smaller. But, that of course, led her right into Blue’s hab suite. She grinned, slinking through the shadows before jumping out to hug him around the waist.
“Uncle Blue!” she cooed, straightening up, standing tall enough that her helm came up to his chest bumper. “Look! I’m almost as tall as you!”

Blaster had finally gotten a break from the work on Autobot City and that, of course, meant going home and draping himself over his favorite couch on the observation deck. HiFi had run off to find her brother, ready to show off her newest upgrades and alt modes.
When Soundwave walked in, he smiled, waving his conjunx over. “Hey,” he murmured, “c’mere. I finally got some vacation time and our daughter abandoned me so ya gotta keep me company~”

@seekerchargeburst
HiFi lazed across her older brother’s berth, kicking her pedes in the air. The newly upgraded femme was so bored lately, what with their creator so busy with the Autobot City construction and the lack of fighting. She’d gotten lucky enough to be strong enough to fight on a trial basis but it was all a game to her.
“Burst,” she hummed out, “can we go off base for a while?” God she needed something else to do. “Either base, I’m so tired of being cooped up.”

“Sire?” HiFi tugged on his feeler with her own, “I was hoping we could start those lessons today. Remember, you were gonna teach me to use my powers?” Dave had come with her, holding her servo with one of his smaller appendages. He’d gotten weirdly clingy lately.

Note
Quickstep may or may not have bought expensive goodies to appeal to HiFi's good side.
HiFi looked at the goodies, helm tilting as the Insecticons chittered around her. “Okay then, what are you trying to get from me, Quicky~ Mama already said I can’t read your professor’s mind.”

HiFi got on the Genocide route? Why, sweet child, why?
“I wanted to try both ‘cause I got told I couldn’t beat it on this path and I REFUSE to lose but SANS IS SO HARD.”

So… HiFi might have gotten a comm from a certain excited flyer for a certain beach party. Telling her to ‘bring Sire and if you want a blanket because Carri is bringing blankets but if you want a special blanket and we have treats and stuff so whenever you’re ready let us know because I’M EXCITED AND READY FOR BEACHING!’
And a slightly less rambling comm from Bluestreak with coordinates for them to bridge too.
HiFi and Blaster come through quickly, a bag full of toys and other such things slung over Blaster’s arm.
“We’re here!” they called, stretching their arms out and taking in the happy scenery.
