Inktobertale Day 4: Honey!
Featuring @hexcia‘s Ink variant, Hex!Ink!
During some RPs in the Ink Server™️ we came up with nicknames to differentiate between our two Ink’s, and we came up with Heart for ST! Ink and Bee for Hex!Ink!
And since bees make honey, well, this prompt basically drew itself :3
They’re having a sweet treat together :3
Fun detail: “Heart” wears a white heart pin (emblematic of his daughter’s soul <3) to differentiate himself around other Inks :3

EVAAAANNNN
Evan is very introverted and shy, opting to do his own thing and hang around with his extended family (aka the majority of the UT cast). He feels most understood by Frisk, who he considers a cousin. They both talk a lot about what its like to be associated so closely to Monsters, and living in a Human-heavy society.
Despite being an incredibly successful experiment into how a Human Soul and a Monster Soul could be combined, Evan is still a tad unstable. There’s been a few incidents where he has had to be taken back into the labs and reassessed, but currently he’s doing much better. He’s also got his fair share of medical issues that come with the strong will of Determination, mixing in a Monster-based body; He’s got supports for this spine and back (his spine holding his ribs arms and head) along with medication for supporting his soul. He's very self-conscious about his bizarre appearance, and he's under the impression it'll freak people out.
Being not part of such a huge event of all Monster-kinds lives made him extremely curious about it all. No one had really talked to him about it, and he didn’t really know who to ask. He vaguely mentions something to Frisk about it, but they just say it was tough all around and everyone is trying to move on. Which just makes him more curious. At some point he plans to go into the Underground, but he's stopped by Sans, who just says "kid you could have asked me. i don't mind tellin ya"
….also…. people don’t know this…. but Steve is… very not human… they're basically a demi-god... and this amplified some of Sans’s powers… yeah. oopsies!
also gonna link my post about his dads here too. Its not long but i think they're funny (I should give them the same treatment i did for Exe and Hero and making them a fanfic mmmmmm)
Extra deets :))))
Evan takes so much after Sans and it scares everyone. One time, he made some kind of pun towards Papyrus, and he deadpan stared at him and said "Sans literally said the exact same thing." and Evan laughed.
I'm also a huge believer in 'Sans is a really good dad' and he would probably do anything for Evan. Steve is also a good dad, but more in the way of "this being is so small and im so terrified to hold him but my gods would i do anything for him. look at him this is my son,,,,"
Evan first met Toriel when he was younger and he was feeling a bit out of place for one of the first times. He had ran off and she scooped him up and gave him some Butterscotch Pie which made him feel a lot better. It became a bit of a tradition after this; whenever Evan was kind of feeling sad or worried, he'd visit Toriel to eat pie with her :)
Mettaton really REALLY wanted Evan to be on his show, but he's way too camera shy and full of anxiety that he kind of can't. Instead, MTT does a mock up version (no cameras and no crew) and they ended up talking for hours and he forgot he actually had a real show to do.
Though its not happened, but I had the thought anyway, but Evan can melt. and he could potentially reset the timeline, since he could probably have enough Determination to do it. It wouldn't be a major reset though, since Frisk saves everyday before they sleep and in the morning and they have the major control over the timelines
#sans undertale#minecraft steve#one thing id love to do is making a bunch of story or lore posts#like i see people posting basically fanfiction here and i wanna do that too lol#also i love Evan and i will be talking about him again#him and Hex get me through the day#more on that later though i have to intro Hex next#fankids

AU Guide
Note: While I am capable of answering questions in character for some of the characters (as I'm certain of what they've been through and I can use all that to help give hints as to the lore), I currently do not have the talksprites for any of my characters, with the sole exception of ALTSWAP!Sans and Papyrus, who have no talksprite.
To make sure I know which character you're asking, just put in the acronym for the AU, shown in brackets.
WALL OF TEXT UNDER THE CUT
EXTENDED SHIFT
An Undertale AU based on Storyshift, but with more characters to shift. The first shift's roles are:
Gaster > Frisk > Mettaton > Asgore > Gerson > Undyne > Papyrus > Chara > Mad Dummy > Gaster Followers > The Six Human Souls > Napstablook > Toriel > River Person > Alphys > Sans > Asriel > Ruins Dummy > Gaster
UNDERTALE - Retake
A collection of takes on certain AUs.
Fable of the Fallen (FotF)
An Undertale AU in which Frisk swaps with the six fallen humans, among other things. The areas are also inverted, meaning smaller areas like the Core and New Home have been massively expanded while more significant areas like Snowdin and the Ruins are a lot smaller...
It is heavily story-based and I intend to eventually make a sprite comic for it.
You can ask Chara, the Story Person, and Gaster questions.
????
The Deltarune counterpart to Fable of the Fallen. I'm not willing to reveal any information about it currently...
ALTSWAP (AS)
A very, very random swap take with some influence from Deltarune, although I doubt Deltarune could have possibly influenced me deciding to swap Gaster with Sans and Papyrus.
You can only ask Sans and Papyrus questions, don't worry, there's still plenty of lore there.
Pastlaw (PL)
The Deltarune counterpart to ALTSWAP. A secret-main boss swap fused with a chapter swap.
WARPEDSUN (WS)
A Deltarune AU based on the original version of Underswap. Kris swaps with the Vessel, Susie swaps with Ralsei, and the rest? Well, you'll have to wait and see...
AFTERMATH (AMX, see AFTERMATH Guide)
A very ambitious take on the post-neutral concept, seeking to create some form of timeline for every possible variant of the neutral endings, with the exceptions of the Dog and Dirty Hacker endings.
Currently, you cannot ask any characters questions. However, once I've got talksprites set up, you'll be able to ask all of the leaders (Toriel, Undyne, Mettaton, Papyrus, Alphys, all in their respective endings) questions. I'll have another post that just covers all the endings that are being covered so that it'll be somewhat easier for me to tell which timeline you're talking about.
SOULRIFT (SR)
How many reboots is it now? It's just a Papyrus-Frisk swap along with some more custom human-monster swaps and... finally... an official lore explanation for how monsters won the war.
Darkmyth (DM)
A lightner-darkner swap AU and the Deltarune counterpart to SOULRIFT. While SOULRIFT was mostly a swap AU, this one's a lot more focused on shifting roles, and is intended to have an independent story from Deltarune, as Seam and Jevil search for Ralsei in the transformed ruins of the destroyed Light World...
You can ask Seam (who swaps with Kris), Jevil (who takes the role of Susie), Dess (who swaps with Ralsei), and Kris questions.
VISIONSWAP (VS)
A take on DELTASWAP specifically inspired by Vision Crew's future chapters take. Chapter 1 swaps with Chapter 5, Chapter 2 swaps with Chapter 3, and Chapters 6 & 7 are both very confusing and probably going to be completely replaced with brand new things, given I've already decided on swapping Ralsei with... Hex, of all people.
Asriel swaps with Kris and Vi swaps with Susie.
SUPERSHIFT (+S)
My take on tripleshift or whatever you call storyshift but three times.
Basically just a side project, although I have a basic idea as to how the characters will be written. You can ask Frisk, Toriel, Asgore, and Napstablook questions.
REBOOT INCOMING, MAJOR LORE CHANGES WILL HAPPEN, DO NOT EXPECT ME TO ANSWER ANY +S ASKS RIGHT NOW.
Hosted on AO3.

A Real Boy - Chapter 8
It took the whole night, as Bruce mentioned, to explain the whole nine yards of their activities to Tim. The whole activity of battling magickal people and creature out to create disturbances - or simply acts of crime that would have garnered unwelcome attention to those with Magickal aptitude.
The research and explaining activities eventually concluded by a lavish dinner that Tim was sure would have required a good sized magickal aptitude to prepare and present and Alfred adamantly stated that he did not use magick to prepare said dinner. By the time they finished dinner, the clock showed 10 p.m., and Tim was seriously ready to curl up in one of the cozy couches and sleep. It was only his sheer stubbornness that kept denying that Bruce would have been right in saying he was in no shape to drive back home.
Jason, however, was not having any of his stubbornness. "Alfred has prepared a bedroom, this is the Wayne Manor that has more security than Fort Knox - literally and magickally; there are more food than I have ever seen in your fridge in the past week. Plus there's a library." he pointed the last one out decisively.
"You may stay here if you want..." Tim grumbled.
"We still haven't figured out how to defeat the Untitled." Jason insisted.
"My eyes refused to comprehend letters anymore. Even if we - I - chose to stay the night, I just simply don't English anymore." Tim retorted.
"I'll try not to summon the demon into your head while I read Latin stuff, no English needed."
"I'm... tremendously amused at the sight of Tim arguing with his familiar, and can't decide if I'm more amused at the argument, or at the fact that the familiar is winning." Dick stated.
"You argued with Zitka all the time, Dick; we just don't hear her answers... That, I can tell you both, is even more entertaining." Barbara quipped. "If you still wish to go home, Dick and I can take you; but I suppose leaving your car here would be a problem..."
"Yeah, it is." Tim pouted. Leaving the car would mean he would have no other mode of transportation to get it back. And since the Wayne Manor ground was out of the public transport lines, he simply didn't want to think of the few miles of walking that he would need to take when he should come back and retrieve his car.
"We don't generally go in and out solo, around here." Barbara added. "Day time, I'd go on my own, it's okay. Night time, especially since I hold the tiara and has no magick within me, I'd rather not risk it."
"The... dark side of the supernaturals don't tend to do well under the sun." Jason explained.
"So the lore did come from facts, after all." Bruce mused. Jason turned and looked at him contemplatively.
"All lores came from facts and truths, Bruce. It's just the matter of who's telling them and how many embellishments they would put into it." he remarked. "Even the story of Pinocchio." he added, smirking a little ruefully.
"Ah yes, Conner Kent; Clark's effigy." Bruce commented idly, and Tim glared warningly at Jason.
"Ugh, don't fret, Timmers. He already knew of your little band of misfits. I didn't say anything." Jason quipped, and then stretched like a cat across the couch he and Tim were sitting on.
"We're not misfits!" Tim protested. "--and you just did say something!" he snapped at Jason.
"No, you're not," Dick interjected. "But you forgot that your friends were relatives or wards of our friends, too..."
Tim groaned, remembering that while his friends - 'band of misfits' as Jason called them - had gotten together on their own as 'orphans', not all of them were literal orphans. Like Cassie, who actually shared the same father as Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman and Donna Troy. The former was known to have made allies with Bruce and Clark and a team called 'Justice League', while the latter was Dick's best friend and had made a team called 'Titans'. Bart Allen might have come from the future, but he was a direct descendant of Barry Allen - who had been in said team prior to his death. Conner, in all obviousness, has connections to Clark and live in Clark's parents' home in Kansas. Rachel, while never had a connection to Bruce, was a member of Dick's previous team before she decided that those in Titans were 'too old' for her 16-year-old self.
"Thanks, Jason, just like Conner had asked us not to do..." Tim groused under his breath.
"I personally was hoping that your coming here was an excuse to form alliance with us," Bruce said. Tim glared at him dubiously.
"We're not... we didn't do anything harmful." he said, hedging. "And no, that's not why I came. I came to let you know of Jason's warning."
"Not help us fight it, then?" Dick asked softly. "Your team has some of the most powerful magi in it, why not help us?"
"You cannot force them, Dick..." Barbara replied. "They need to make the decision for themselves - they're not sidekicks, like you were."
"Being a sidekick taught me a lot, Babs," Dick told her.
"Not being a sidekick also taught me a lot, Dick; and at the end of the day, I can manage fine on my own, yet chose to pick the bigger picture as I see fit." she reminded. "Don't let them bully you into doing anything you don't want to do, Tim. Not even if the bullying came from Jason." she added, glaring at Jason, who shrugged nonchalantly.
"Hey, I'm only bullying him to stay the night so I can peruse the library." Jason offered. "I promise. That's all I wanted." he added when Tim directed what should have been a very effective death glare at him. Hey, said death-glare would have made Conner shriek in horror. Only on Jason, it seemed to be kind of useless. Tim wondered if his glare was defective, or if Jason felt like he was simply looking into a mirror when Tim glared at him.
After about three seconds of glare-off, Tim finally conceded. "Fine, we'll stay the night." Jason beamed. "But just this night. Tomorrow we get out of here at the crack of dawn, or I'm leaving you here!" he threatened. Jason's growled in indignation - Jason was not allowed to leave his Magi behind, but the Magi can make the familiar stay in one place, away from him.
Tim ignored him and turned to face Bruce. "As for my... friends, I can't and won't decide anything on their behalf. I will need to speak to them first and foremost, and that's not gonna happen until this weekend."
Bruce nodded slowly. "I understand."
"Wait, I'm not done. Whatever it is you think we're doing, we're not heroes, alright. We're just kids. We just needed a place that... where we can hang out and maybe help each other with our own problems; you know. We don't need... more problems." he asserted.
Bruce nodded again. "I understand," he repeated. "but I would prefer that you - of all people, considering that it was your familiar who brought in the news - know in advance of what you could be facing and how to face it. Jason might be able to show you books that show possible forms of threats; but you will need to know how to resolve them with the modern world in mind. You simply cannot barge in - no matter how strong you are - without considering other people." was the added warning.
"Oh, I know all about cellphone cams and CCTVs..." Tim started.
"What about the general public? The opinionated ones?" Dick asked. "The ones who talked about a bunch of kids who seemed like they're going to blow up that Drake Islet or make concoctions that would poison the entire Pacific?"
"They're just..." Tim froze. "How did you know of... he's just a jealous little wannabe magi who's not even a homo magi. I mean, he was like, a magician - the rabbit-out-of-a-hat kind of magician. He's..." he sighed. "You folks already know all these, don't you?" he concluded.
"Yes, I have some bots that would change the context of an online mention of you to something... well, more 'teen' activities than 'magi' activities. If things exploded, I'd change it to an experiment gone haywire - not demons being driven back to hell." Barbara admitted. "But if you want me to stop, I will."
"I think you can only ask her to stop when you're a legal adult." Dick told him. "But considering the things he'd said about you and your band of teenage alleged-'misfits', quote-unquote, you'll need to be more careful if you're to appear in public. I know how unpredictable the West Coast could be at times, but..." he shrugged. "...yeah, more careful is all I can say for now."
Tim inhaled slowly and exhaled just as slowly. If anyone asked, he would say he trusted Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and Barbara Gordon with his life - even before knowing that they had worked with his mom. But there were others he should put into consideration, i.e. his friends.
But then again, there were times where he had hoped he'd known what to do when an emergency should arise. Barbara was right, there were times where he and his friends had needed to appear within the city of San Francisco itself and show their magickal strength to repel things - usually small-timed demons - and make them go back to the hell they came from. Thus far, Tim and Rachel was able to keep cameras and the likes from capturing them - using a lot of reflective surfaces and Rachel's deep-black 'soul self', an astral projection of her soul.
But a few months ago, they had met a guy - probably about a few years older than Tim, who had accidentally unleashed some dark magick due to his ignorance of spells and hexes. Tim couldn't resist berating the guy's ears off, after they managed to contain the darkness. Since then, the guy seemed adamant to discredit them by all means. His photos - obviously - were wrecked and not view-able, but didn't stop him from reiterating the whole event in great detail.
Tim knew that if a non-magi should see the Photogram or Mugbuddy story, they might simply say the guy, Lonnie Machin, has a great skill for storytelling and cute imagination. But a magi who was up-to-date to the world of magick would have seen through the flowery description and noticed what was happening right away.
"I can't promise much," Tim finally decided, realizing that while the demons or random dark magick were virtually 'easy' to handle, it took all of their concentration and metaphorical firepower to handle those and keep themselves hidden from plain sight. The offer of alliance with one of the most powerful team of Magi in the world sounded incredibly enticing, yet a bit worrying. "I'll talk to my friends, and I'll try to present this idea as... unbiased as possible. I don't like the idea of you being... I mean, they don't know you and all. And you're all adults." he reasoned.
"That's fair. You don't want us to influence you too much that you'd lose your own independence and identity," Barbara elaborated. "He's got a point, Bruce," she continued. "They should figure it out as a team, not just because it's demanded of them. They may be young... but we've had this conversation before."
Bruce exhaled slowly, and eventually said, "alright. I shall trust your team's judgment, whatever they decide - whether or not they would ally themselves with JL. But I trust you that we shall never be foes, yes?"
"Yeeeah, as much as Jason said I don't have a sense of self-preservation, I'm not nuts enough to make enemies out of the most powerful team of Magis in the world." Tim rolled his eyes. "Besides, my mom trusted you with a lot of artifacts - oh yes, Bruce, I noticed the door knocker, some hinges, vases, ornaments that should've been placed in a museum. I wasn't sure at first, until I saw the tiara. I presumed she'd given you some of those..."
"...some, yes. Some I've acquired, really. I paid for the digs." Bruce smirked. His sigh brought on a wistfulness to his face that caught Tim a little off-guard. "Jan was... the best, Tim. I am honored to have known her. Her... insistence on doing the right thing could be unnerving at times. But she was more than just a worthy ally. She was a friend."
Tim nodded slowly. But he has made up his mind; he would not 'sell' the alliance, but rather present it to the gang as an opportunity to learn and grow.
His mind and brain, too, has made up something else. Before he realized it, he yawned wide.
"Oh dear," Alfred remarked. "for all of his magickal strength, gentlemen, Miss Gordon, young Master Drake here is still a young 'un, I perceive." he said. "Your chamber is ready, Master Tim, if you wish to turn in now." he offered.
"Yeah, I guess... I guess I will." Tim admitted. "Bruce, Dick, Barbara... thank you... at least for letting me know that my mom was-- wasn't..." he stopped as the lump in his throat started to make it impossible to speak without actually sobbing.
"Tim, it's we who should thank you, and she." Barbara replied, rolling closer to him and tugged his shirt sleeves. As he bent over, she placed a gentle kiss on his temple. "Sleep well, buddy. I'll stay in touch."
Tim just nodded, he couldn't find the words to say when Bruce squeezed his shoulder and Dick ruffled his hair. He definitely welcomed Jason's arm wrapping around his shoulders as Jason begged to be excused and steered him to follow Alfred.
It was only after he'd brushed his teeth and changed to a set of pajamas - his size, which is not too surprising considering Alfred; that he slumped onto the bed and wept. For the mother he had never known; for the hero who had protected more than just her son and husband; for the soul of Janet Drake, that should be set free, if Tim could find it in him to actually forget her.
Jason kept quiet and wrapped his arms around Tim in an embrace as he cried, until he fell asleep.

Non-Attribute Spells for 5E Bards, Sorcerers, Warlocks, and Wizards
Let’s be entirely honest: Even with their additional Ability Score Increases, Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters suffer from Attribute Bloat. Especially Eldritch Knights and Arcane Tricksters that want a good spell casting ability modifier for their limited selection of 1st through 4th level damage / save-or-die spells.
Likewise, it can be a bit boring seeing every Bard, Sorcerer, and Warlock post-AD&D 2E run around with a silver spoon in their mouth while the party Wizard sits at home running quantum physics experiments in a setting that’s yet to even discover the internal combustion engine.
So, after running my flap on the matter for a couple years now, I’ve finally actually done something about it and compiled a list of spells from the Player’s Handbook, Sword Coast’s Adventurer’s Guide, and Princes of the Apocalypse books which do not rely on your Attribute modifier. This list, to the best of my knowledge, is up to date as of 02/17/2017, and does not include materials included in Unearthed Arcana, Planeshift supplements, or similar materials. The spells contained within sometimes do invoke the caster’s Spellcasting Ability Modifier in some manner or another (ex: Healing Word), but have either significant primary (creating a Bonfire!) or secondary (creating an area of difficult terrain) effects. Scry has been included as well as - while a traditional Save-or-Die spell - its built-in modifiers mean the -1 to +5 provided to the DC from a caster’s Spellcasting Attribute are negligible overall.
As a minor suggestion, if planning to run a low-Primary Attribute score Caster make sure to plan out your character’s next couple of levels early on. This is especially important if you plan on keeping your Primary Attribute score lower than 13, preventing you from Multi-Classing without investing at least one ASI. Also consider some Class Paths that are traditionally skipped, such as the Diviner for Wizards (who at higher levels can effectively “bank” three d20 rolls per Long Rest to keep the occasional Save-or-Die / Spellcasting Attack spell viable) or Wild Magic Sorcerers (who can modify d20 rolls up to 1d4 using their Sorcery points and benefit from no Charisma bleed-over into their class ribbons).

Trees that bring good fortune
Magical Trees
In some cultures, there are trees that can bring good luck, and attract good fortune. (Photo Credits)
If there is one thing that is certain is that hard work will bring in good fortune after some time. For other cultures, hard work coupled with some other factors can help attract prosperity and good luck.
Indoor trees and trees planted within one’s garden, backyard or lawn can be included in this category. This is why some homeowners even go to the extent of consulting a Feng Shui expert for this. For those who may be interested to try these but would not want to spend money to consult an expert, there are books, and the internet for information on the topic.
The website One Green Planet for instance shared three plants that could bring in prosperity and good fortune.
“There are a host of beautiful, affordable indoor plants available on the popular market that are said to have powerful effects in helping people prosper. Whether it be money, luck or health, the following plants have earned a reputation for bestowing these on those who care for them: the Money Tree, Lucky Bamboo and the Peace Lily. For some, their powers are understood on a spiritual or cultural level. The idea behind such plants is that their unique presence breathes positive energy into your home, clearing out negativity and opening the door for opportunity–whatever it may be. For others, like the Peace Lily, their power to help humans prosper has been studied and measured scientifically.” Check out the list here.
Good health, fortune and love
Gala Darling for its part named wonderful trees and plants that attract a better mindset, and good fortune.
“Bamboo is known for attracting joy and wealth. It offers protection and luck, can break hexes and grants wishes! Bamboo is said to help increase mental flexibility, aid in spiritual growth, help people to develop artistic talents, and encourages good health. If you’re depressed, bamboo is a great plant to have in your home, as it can help you to feel less stuck.”
Read about the nine other plants here.
Money Tree
Gardening Know How also shared its own list of luck-attracting trees and plants to nourish inside the home. The Money Tree and the Jade Plant are included in their list.A1 San Diego Tree Trimming
“The Pachira money tree is another plant commonly used in Feng Shui and also believed to bring the grower good luck. Interestingly, money trees are often braided together, but in order for the “luck” to work, you’ll need to have three to five braided plants, steering clear of the unlucky number four. Additionally, its leaves must have five or more “fingers” to be lucky. Jade plant – according to Feng Shui lore, plants with rounded leaves are sure to bring good fortune and the jade plant is no exception. Jade is a traditional gift given to new business owners and, when placed near the entrance, is thought to bring prosperity and success. No reason this shouldn’t work for the home too.
Read their whole list here.
Planting trees indeed brings about tons of benefits for the home, and all its occupants.

THE CONCEPTION AND INFLUENCES OF FLAT KINGDOM. 27 MONTHS LATER.
Hey there!
first of all we want to introduce ourselves, we are Fat Panda Games, a video game studio based in Yucatan (Mexico) that has been working in our first big project, the adventure platformer Flat Kingdom for 2 years and three months. We’ll launch it on PC and Mac by 7th of April, that’s in less than a week! After a so long project, we have many stories to tell about this amazing trip in the game development world that has been creating Flat Kingdom.
Everything started after watching Indie Game the Movie, when it ended we asked ourselves: “Why not?” And we founded Fat Panda.
Our filosophy when we created the studio was to make games with unique style and balanced but challenging gameplay. We decided to develop a first project that would be a platformer because we love Nintendo classics, like Kirby or Donkey Kong and that way we got to the main concept of what would become Flat Kingdom. A curious fact is that the game was initially called “Flatman”…. we had to change the name for legal issues because , just in case you don’t know, there is a super hero with that name already.
The general concept of Flat Kingdom was allowing the main character to dynamically adapt to its own limitations and the ones in its environment, these limitations could have been colors, movements, but in our particular case we decided that the dynamics were geometry and the constant amount restrictions was going to be three, basically a character that can change dynamically between circle, square and triangle. However for this to make sense and deliver a real and complex challenge in the gameplay, these 3 ways would act differently compared to each other, for example, the circle can float and jump into the water, square can sink and walk underwater, and the triangle cannot swim but you can run very fast and pin yourself to the walls to climb.
THE CONCEPT.
Conceptually, Flat Kingdom is touched by many Nintendo classics like Zelda, Kirby, Donkey Kong and Mario Bros, but also have a strong weight in the gameplay from modern games like Super Meat Boy, Kingdom Hearts, Shovel Knight, Guacamelee, Ori or Fez. Originally it was going to be a platformer with a similar pace to Donkey Kong Country, but we wanted to have some slightly strategic / RPG elements, we’re not talking about stats, equipping armor, leveling up or merging the whole map like in a full metroidvania game; but rather the game is not just going from point A to point B, beat the boss and next level. During the game, Flat develops as a character, you get more energy, new skills and have the option to go back and explore the levels in new ways. As well as a journal that tells you more about the backstory of the kingdom and some characters, players who want to read it can fully immerse themselves in the world of Flat Kingdom, but those who just want to blast through the game can do just that.
Based in the concepts of geometry and taking great inspiration from the book Flatland: A romance of many dimensions (Edwin Abbott Abbott), the story will focus on a conflict between dimensions, 3D and 2D against each other making a kind of analogy of the gaming world in the 90s, where 2D games were brutally consumed by the 3D ones. Hence we made the character a simple being to contrast with the whole universe, Flat is a plain 2D character that can survive the change of dimensions because of his simplicity. Flat Kingdom’s story centers on a legend about an alchemist who created some gems of power in the past to stop the war between the bidimensional world and the Third dimension, we see how this actually affects the world at the beginning of the game. The geometric shape of each character predominate in the personality of not only Flat, but enemies too: regularly circular characters are gentle, calm and even somewhat benevolent, the triangles are aggressive and fast, and finally the squares are big and slow, but rather strong.
The characters are simple and friendly, like what we saw in old cartoons, where they had a lot of charm and personality by exaggerating their features and movements.
King Square is the sovereign of the Flat Kingdom, Princess Tri is the damsel in distress kidnapped by Hex, the thief also known the Shadow Born.
Originally the game art was a 90% 3D 10% 2D, but this changed during development so that you see the transition of the worlds during the story of the game (also because handling 2D graphics proved to be much much easier than 3D ones). This also allowed for a more interesting art direction, giving the feel of a pop up storybook and a child fairly tale.
Also, the level design had somewhat of a logic in their direction. For example, Flat Forest is practically a horizontal line, serving as an easy first world and teaching you the basic mechanics for the game. Flatlantis is a water level that starts pretty horizontal, but soon turns downwards and turns into a maze, mixing up the formula you learned in the first worlds. The next ones also deliberately introduce new themes and directions that complement their aesthetics and lores in-game.
The game stages are kind of a parody of the very achetypical videogame worlds, helping you to get an idea of the world and it’s theme with only their name, before you even jump in. Flatlantis is obviously the typical water world with ruins, and Flatsgard is the snowy mountain. The dialogues of the NPCs are very comedic in nature (sometimes being even absurd), like the dialogues of the Pokémon trainers who want to battle just because they like shorts.
DISSECTING INFLUENCES.
It is worth to explain the several references in Flat Kingdom, from old-school to the more recent games. But first, let me illustrate them with this beautiful mosaic, how many hours of fun we have spent on those little but incredible worlds huh?
The Legend of Zelda:
Exploration, rich mythologies and races inhabiting the fantasy world.
Relationship between few but symbolic characters.
A strong and silent main character.
The Kirby Series:
Simple but courageous character with multiple skills and transformations.
Beautiful world with enemies that seem cute but can be quite challenging.
The Donkey Kong Country Series: Agile and fast paced gameplay, collecting objects.
Super Mario Bros Series: Gradual and fair learning curve.
Super Meat Boy: Introduction of acrobatic dynamics that increase in complexity along the game.
Kingdom Hearts: History seemingly innocent but more complex than it seems, use of journals to not bore the player with too much history, only for the people who are really interested in the lore.
Shovel Knight: Empower your character as it progresses through the game.
Guacamelee: Colorful and unique visual style.
Fez: Visual style and concepts.
Metroid: Revisit levels once you learn new skills to access new areas and find extra bonus.
Demon’s Crest: Every shape has its strengths and weaknesses.
And much more that you may discover when you play the game (including easter eggs :)) !
Overall, and after this 27 months of hard work developing the game, the point I feel most proud of when I play the final version is that we created a unique gameplay, which may seem complex at first, but it’s really easy to master (you’ll be an expert in no time!). We found a very own identity and flair for Flat Kingdom, something that is fundamental when you are a small independent game developer.

A short skit between Hex and Ink
———————————————————————
“…Hey, Hex! Can we talk? Just for a second?”
“Huh? Oh! Haha, of course! I’m just surprised you thought I WOULDN’T want to!”
“Haha, yeah, it was a little funny to ask!…”
“Hah…yeah… why… exactly did you seem a little unsure about talking to me? (His eyes are doing that thing again… makes his emotions such a dead giveaway!)”
“Alright, well…hmm… you know we’re pals and all, right buddy?”
“Pssh, why wouldn’t I? You’re acting so weird, man…”
“Well! Well, uh… I need a favor from you. A nice, simple favor between friends. Can you do that?”
“Favors? Really? Well alright, I guess one teeny tiny favor couldn’t hurt! Just don’t make me try to calm one of Error’s tantrums! Hahahah! Alright, alright…Watcha got?”
“So, I need you to- yes? -do a better job of- better? I can do better, ok -not messing with the- what? -stability of the multiverse?”
"...Pfft, haha, okay, okay, uh, You're kidding me, right? You're usually better with jokes, Ink! This is just sad."
"Hah...I...I'm not joking, Hex... I uh...I mean it. This is becoming a problem. You're a great variant, you really are. Just... your whole antics are a little...tiring. I don't think I can keep asking you to tone it down without making my own tone serious for once. That make sense?"
"..."
"Hey, don't go all silent on me! You've got to admit that what you're doing isn't, you know, cool? At least to the Multiverse and me? Especially in the long term?"
"...yeah right... 'Least I'm not actually, you know, destroying AUs or genuinely hurting anybody. I thought you were on board with my shenanigans, but now you're just acting like DREAM!"
"The 'shenanigans' that you pull can cause entire AUs to go offscript... or even... self-destruct... Don't you realize that!?"
"THE LITTLEST things can set these places off! What, are we ruining a timeline right NOW just by being here!? Haha, I mean, come ON! Can't a little fun be present in this world drowned in rules and balance?"
"...It's not fun having to clean up messes that people like YOU make, Hex."
"So what? Not like cleaning up messes is going to stop them from being made. Why don't any of you realize that?"
"...Hex, you- No, no. YOU know that, don't you? You know this is all a lost cause, and yet you still choose to TRY and make sense of nonsense."
"..."
"...Well? How close am I? 70%? 80? Full one-hundo? Deciphering people like you is fun, you know! You guys are like Rubix cubes! Haha!"
"...Pfft....Hahaha!"
"There we go! Finally, snapping out of that balance talk... It feels good to laugh, doesn't it?"
"...Ah...Hex, you really do know how to irritate me..."
———————————————————————
This isn't the first time Ink has had to talk with Hex about stuff like this. Hex knows what he's doing, but nothing Ink says is likely going to stop him. I do wonder... when is enough enough?

Some WACKY Hex!Sans Facts!
Hex is a fan of Hatsune Miku, and his favorite song is Twilight Melody.
Things that manifest and appear in Hex’s empty eye socket can sometimes float, spill, or fall out of his eye. He can also control some specific manifestations like hands or tentacles.
Hex sometimes steals and drinks Ink’s vials just for fun. Yes, he is a confirmed paint drinker.
His pocket dimension was originally based off the Turn The Lights Off music video, Deltarune worlds, and The Void from The Amazing World of Gumball, but will also be taking inspiration from ENA locations and Discord's realm from My Little Pony.
Hex is able to enter and exit The Omega Timeline, but he's usually kicked out because of his antics (Like pestering variants of the same Sans with questions or pulling pranks). CORE Frisk doesn't see him as an actual THREAT though, so they don't ban him.
Out of the two brothers, Hex likes Dream more than Nightmare. However, he's intrigued by Passive Nightmare's variants and his adoration across Multiverses by other Creators. ("Why do so many people like you, short stuff?")
His favorite animal is the platypus.
Hex’s birthday is canonically May 19th!

Hex made a tier-list about all of his friends!
...he's got a very interesting taste.
It's based off the creativity and obscurity of the AU or the Sans itself, among other things... The more likely that it's an abomination to the Multiverse, the more likely Hex would like them.
