“You’re, like, really bad at dying, huh?”

A rather comfortable silence, one Cinnamon could tell Drakath relished, shattered by five (or six, or seven, depending on how you counted her filler words) simple words. She didn't even look up from her current watercolor painting, but she could almost hear him frown, and definitely heard him shut his book.

“And you’re really bad at starting conversations.”

She shrugged, and adjusted at the desk a bit. “Touché, but really, I do genuinely mean it, one hundred percent. You suck at dying.”

“Couldn't you just say I’m good at surviving, instead of bad at dying? When you phrase it like that, it almost sounds like you want me to die.”

“Oh, come on, I don't want you to die, don't be dramatic.” Cinnamon finally looked over. He didn't look particularly miffed, at least no more than usual. That was good, at least. “I'm just saying, like, you know the whole…”

A pause, as she tried to put her jumbled thoughts in something resembling order. (A side-effect of being in Crownsreach in close quarters with Drakath was that her latent Chaorruption often came back with a vengeance. While she was fine with never being truly cured of it, it was a pain sometimes.)

“You know the whole Eternal Dragon thing, right? I guess–”

He raised an eyebrow at the question, but didn't interrupt her. Of course he knew. How could he not? Stupid phrasing, really. She let out a shaky sigh. Damn, someone must have turned down the heat just then or something. She felt a bit chilly.

“You know, when I trained with Iadoa, you died in the future he showed me. I'm guessing she killed you.” No elaboration on her. Not like she needed to. Not like she wanted to. “Then, there's been other times. Other worlds I’ve seen. I can't think of a single one where you, um, actually don't die horribly.”

A nervous chuckle left her as she looked back at the paper. Couldn't read his expression. Didn't really want to.

“Of all the Drakaths I’ve seen, I think you’re the only one I’ve seen who hasn't died like that. At least not yet. But it feels less like it’s because you’re– oh, this is going to make me sound like an asshole–”

“It feels less like I’m good at living, and more like I’m bad at dying.” He finished the sentence for her, but she didn't feel like any less of an asshole for it.

“Yeah, pretty much, I guess.”

Another silence. Much less comfortable than the first, until she managed to break it again.

“Can you, like, stay bad at dying, please?”

In terms of what is likely given Nintendo's track record w/ Splatoon:

❌️ Great Turf War Prequel, old man yaoi, squids in imperial Japan, actually elaborating on the Octarians more

✅️ 80s fashion revival, or perhaps something a lil more Y2k, squid kids gentrifying historic cities after Grand Fest like w/ Splatsville after Chaos v Order, everything being mostly the same as the previous games just w/ more retro clothes and music

(and im still down for it honestly but like, temper your expectations, be realistic)

What do you think of Piper's character? I started pjo because of Jason but I can't finish it because I got spoiled :(

aww nooo I'm so sorry you got spoiled! i hope you are able to continue the books one day despite the spoiler :< I was unfortunately, spoiled of jason's you-know-what long before I finished pjo and was about to start hoo aswell :(

anyways, I'll be honest, i initially never felt much towards piper while reading hoo? i wasn't a huge fan, but I never found her boring either, just a little shallow but in an understandable way since she was just a growing teen, it was realistic. I did like the fact that we got lots of insight on jason through her though, but overall she didn't deserve the fandom slander at all, that something i heavily agree on.

Also, something i DON'T understand is how much slander she got for calling percy 'unimpressive' compared to jason?? jason was her BOYFRIEND whom she was in love with at the time, and the fandom seemingly hates everyone who doesn't kiss the ground percy walks on. i found it VERY authentic that atleast one character didn't simp over him like the long list of simps he had throughout the series lol. no, she doesn't have bad taste just because percy wasn't romantically her cup of tea. Yet i feel like if annabeth said something along the lines of 'xx character is very unimpressive compared to percy' i don't ANYONE would've slandered her, because it's percy. they would've just called her a 'loyal queen' or something. piper truly is one of the punching bags unfortunately.

her platonic connection with leo and jason is also SUPER underrated, they were a family who cared about eachother till the very end even though they were put together under false pretenses :( i hate it when people compare them with grover, percy and annabeth saying that the lost hero trio wasn't 'true friendship' because of the fake memories, no. they are TRUE friends BECAUSE of how well they blended DESPITE the fake memories. They connected so well with ease and never really had any awkward moments together either.

[TOA spoilers] I'll be honest, i still have some lingering petty resentment towards piper because of how standoffish she was to jason after the break up, especially when she let coach hedge and mellie think that jason broke her heart, which alludes that she never explained to them who broke up with who and just vaguely said that they broke up, but then again, there are too little details about the break up for me to make out what exactly happened, so there's that. and I'll admit, her moving on with so quickly also rubs me off in a VERY wrong way, not just because of jason or anything, but because of how unhealthy it is for her mental health aswell, I just feel like she needed to take a break before jumping into a new relationship right after she faced PTSD witnessing her ex boyfriend/best friend's death, but i won't get into that.

I've seen some people getting upset about rick making piper queer, calling it 'queer baiting' but i HEAVILY disagree. i think piper questioning her sexuality was very realistic and makes so much sense for her character, since she always seemed to have internal misogyny that she needed to work on and also she faced the pressure of being the 'perfect aphrodite child with a perfect boyfriend' as her mom's favourite daughter. piper moving out of chb to go live in oklahoma is also very in character. I personally never felt like she truly enjoyed being in chb tbh, not as much as leo or jason did.

I do love how she gave out so much reassurance and moral support to the other characters like annabeth, leo and jason, because it's very sweet and she's also a very underrated fighter in the battlefield too.

Katsuki's arc being structurally a Heroine's Journey is still so amazing to me. It reminds me of that one interview with Horikoshi where he says he writes his stories not based on gender roles (or something along those lines)

(It also makes me think of making one for Ochako but for the Heroes Journey because I saw a lot of jp fans actually rejoice when Izuku called her a Hero because she is not the Heroine!! She is his Equal and a Hero in her own right!!)

Belated Holiday Cleanup

In which Drakath seriously questions Cinnamon Rollz's sanity.

“Cinnamon. You… are aware that Frostval is over, right?”

“... Yeah? Do you see any lights up around here?” She gestured wildly around her house, to the fact she'd already put away her decorations. Given that last year she hadn't put them away until Heroes Heart Day, it must have been at least partially to show off that she had actually put them away in a timely manner.

“Then why is that thing still attached to you.”

By ‘that thing,’ Drakath, of course, meant that horrible little elf creature, the one with an uncanny resemblance to him, currently hiding behind Cinna’s leg, like he was scared or something. (He should be. Drakath would obliterate that abomination as soon as he was given the opportunity, regardless of Cinna’s opinions.)

He grimaced as the Hero in front of him gasped in shock and scooped the elf up. “Drakath!” She scolded him. Why was he getting scolded?! He didn't even do anything! (Yet. But she could save the scolding for later, when he had actually done something worth scolding!) “You leave him alone, he’s done nothing wrong ever in his short little life!”

And with that, she nuzzled it and changed her tone. “Right~? My lil Elfkath couldn't do anything wrong, ever! Is he being mean? So meansies to Elfkath?” Baby talk. Disgusting.

As if that weren't disgusting enough, the stupid little thing turned to Drakath,

made direct eye contact with him,

and stuck out its tongue.

Drakath was going to wring its fucking neck.

With all the barely-restrained rage of a gorillaphant, he looked at Cinnamon, so lovingly doting on the holiday elf, now lightly squishing its face. “Hand it over.”

“No!” Cinnamon practically jumped back several feet with her response, and took on a more defensive stance, shielding the elf with her body. “You have a ‘kill on sight’ notice out for this majestic creature!”

“Majestic?” He took two steps forward, and Cinnamon took two backwards. “That thing is an affront to life itself! Putting it out of its misery is Good!” One last attempt to appeal to her sense of reason, though she clearly lacked it. The damn elf must have absorbed all her brain cells at this point.

Cinnamon pulled out her wooden spoon, holding it outwards with one hand while continuing to coddle the elf with the other. “That’s rich, coming from Sir Chaosington of Chaos! Now, back off!”

He did not back off. He lunged at her.

And that was why her house was currently a smoldering pile of ashes, and why she was attempting to whack him with her spoon and demand he pay for the damages while that fucking elf grinned.

i’m always so taken aback by some of things that make people not ship/stop shipping characters. like i saw a post about dabihawks and someone in the comments said that they used to ship them until they found out how toxic the relationship was. like i thought we were all shipping them because the relationship is so toxic. like that was the main draw for me and i thought it was the main draw for everyone else as well
