I am excited to get to wrap up my story "your beauty never ever scared me" on Ao3 by the end of the year. January 1-4, 2025 - you know this saying that what happens on the new year's eve sets the mood for the year to come?

Looks like it's true. Supernatural trended yesterday for no reason, and here we are now. What a fantastic way to start the year. Not to mention, January 1, 2025 marks exactly 1518 days from Nov 5, 2020, when Supernatural's episode 15x18 Despair aired and broke the internet.

Thankfully, there's no need for further panic as today's trend is yet again mostly a result of the widespread use of the destiel meme, general posting, and not many events that would take up the trending slots.

Though on the other hand, destiel trending for mostly no reason somehow feels more sinister. So don't get too comfortable, I'm sure that soon enough Misha will ✨say something✨ again.

I have an idea to write a supernatural fic (i know its 2025 fricken sue me) inspired by Epic. Some wild found family shit with def some Sabriel and Destiel thrown in there. Ofc just barely cannon compliant to make the story line and ships work.

Basic outline, Sam and Dean end up having to take in a girl (around 11) when her family dies and shes left with instructions to call John of all people. Oops tho they didnt get the message that his dead and she gets Sam and Dean instead. Already been raised by hunters and thus knowing WAY too much about the supernatural (great parenting choices made all around IM LOOKIN AT YOU JOHN), the boys take her in. We get some found family with Sam and Dean basically trying to do things better than their dad. "No, you cant come with us. NOT because you arent capable, youre plenty that, but youre a kid. So for once, be a kid." and stuff like that. I see Sam becoming more of a parental figure to her because of how he views his childhood compared to Dean. With Dean still in his "our childhood was pretty great, dad did his best" mentality, I see him slowly come to realize that giving a kid a GUN when they are scared of their closet was not a great choice.

Cas is there of course and Gabe comes back not long after faking his death in season 5 (I NEED MY SHIPS). The boys are able to get Sam back from Hell with the help of our fave archangel turned trickster.

The angels and demons are PISSED about their plans and figure that they need to separate this little found family. Dean and Cas are left alone at Bobby's to try and figure this all out and Gabriel is captured and taken to Asmodeus (I need his headquarters to be somewhere on earth with a connection to hell. this will make sense later). The angels take the kid and place her in a random ass town middle of no where and in the foster system, with only an Angel (im thinkin Anna cause canon does not exist here) keeping guard to make sure she cant leave and cant contact anyone.

Sam, cause hes sam and cant catch a break, goes on what he thinks is a normal salt-and-burn on his own but ends up being stopped by some supernatural being whenever he tries to go home. HE IS OUR ODYSSEUS. Lucifer is Posideon in this case, and wants him to feed into the "monster" within him so he'll say yes again and finally take over. Sam is constantly beat down, losing every person he comes into contact with on his journey, and becoming the "monster" or hunter in this case, that John was always trying to get him to be. He just wants to get home to his family.

The girl, on the other hand, is stuck with no way home and just wants to be with her family again. She wants to be just like Sam and Dean and decides so start doing research and helping out in this middle of no where town when crazy supernatural stuff does happen. She was raised by hunters and then our favorite boys after all so she has a good idea of what to do but cant actually ask anyone for help. SHE IS OUR TELEMACHUS.

They are all separated from each other for about 3 years.

She eventually finds that Anna has a bit of a soft spot left from when she used to be human and creates the opening to Asmodeus's for the kid to find. She stubbles in there and finds who? her basically step-dad, Gabriel! She steals him away and finds some of his grace to take back with her. He starts to get better but then the kid is taken. Gabriel is strong enough now to send a message to Cas. Anna thinks they all have been punished for too long.

Sam finally beats the shit outta lucifer and makes his way to bobby's just as Cas finds out that Gabriel and the kid are alive and in the same place. Our trio runs to this backwater town and heads down to Asmodeus's. The suitors are the Demons there and Sam is in a fuckin RAGE. They not only kidnapped and tortured his boyfriend for the last three years (much longer for Gabriel) but now they have his kid. Two of the people hes been fighting so hard to get back to. Sam (with help from Dean and Cas) fight off the demons and find the kid. On the way out they find Asmodeus and hes PISSED. At the last moment, Gabriel comes in full archangel and smites the bastard.

And of course we end on reunions all around (think "I cant help but wonder") and a supernatural rendition of "would you fall in love with me again" between Sam and Gabriel (cause HE IS OUR PENELOPE). Sam feels like hes changed, hes not the same person he was when he left. Hes done horrible things, killed so many creatures, allowed so many to die, just so he can go home. He wants to be with his family but knows that he might never be able to be Sam again. Gabriel has been under Asmodeus' watch for years, his grace diminished, waiting for someone to come and find him. He hoped it would be his family, his Sam. And now that he's got Sam back? Hes never letting go again. He'll fall in love with Sam over and over again because he may have changed but his soul didnt. And damn if Gabriel hadnt been waiting.

So thats my idea..........sorry this is long but anyone like?

Okay here's my wrap up round up of 2024 - first two thirds 10/10, amazing, fantastic - final third 0/10 bad bad bad

If I focus on the best parts, I had such a fun year of travelling around again! I haven't been on many adventures since I bought my apartment in 2020, as I've been teetering on the knife edge of only just having enough money to get by each month since then lmao. But then this year I decided I wasn't going abroad any time soon so I used all my Japan Fund money on a whole bunch of conventions and photos and autos instead - best decision ever !!!

I had so many amazing experiences I'll never forget

I cant thank you all enough for your support with any likes or reblogs or messages that have been sent my way. I've been so lucky to feel so accepted into such a well established fandom, and to feel like people care about me! (And my ginger and white fluffy gummy gremlin child)

I've made some amazing fandom friends and I couldn't have coped with the bad parts of this year without you all! I also started writing another longfic! I hope to finish it next year!! Those are my biggest hopes for 2025 - build on my friendships and keep writing ❤️

2024 in Mittens Fic

It’s once again time for the annual accounting of things I have written! This year's stats are pretty deceptive, since i posted over 266k words to ao3 across five works. Unfortunately one of them is my SPNGeorg podcast notes (which i've all but abandoned for now, also unfortunately... unless you're excited that this means my brain wants to focus on writing fic more than podcast notes...) hopefully that bodes well for 2025 (for which I already have 42k written that will post in this year's upcoming pinefest!)

SO. If you take away the podcast notes, at over 180k... this has been my smallest fic year ever, at 85,721 words posted.

Ignoring the SPNGeorg podcast notes, that still leaves me with FOUR posted fics from this year, which is way better than none! :D

First up was my Dean/Cas Pinefest fic, Given to Fly (60,952 words, rated E) (and while you're there, check out all the other incredible Pinefest 2024 works!). It's a modern AU, with Dean and Cas in the Navy and a very season seven vibe (in case you enjoy watching Dick Roman get his comeuppance in addition to destiel pining).

Next up was a fic I started with the intention of submitting to the DCBB but yet again missed the draft deadline. Loose Ends (20,763 words, rated T) is technically part 3 of my Evergreen series that began with one working part back in 2023, but can be read as a standalone. It's a post-Chuck world, Dean and Cas are together, and a fairy case leads them down a rabbit hole of fanfiction of Chuck's Supernatural series, and some major revelations about their own past.

(almost entirely) Sweet Sixteenth (982 words, rated T) is a short and sweet destielversary fic, also loosely set in the Evergreen 'verse. A camping trip goes very wrong.

Merry Beachmas (3024 words, rated T) is also set in Evergreen, my annual holiday fic. Wherein the entire gang decides that since Chuck is gone, they need to start making up their own holidays to celebrate. Once again, things go slightly awry. (and if you're still in a holly jolly mood and just want more destiel holiday fluff, i now have a decade worth of it right here)

And that's it for this year! Sadly! But again, I already have nearly half of this year's total ready to go for next year, so hopefully there will be much, much more to come!

I'd really better get on that, because my To Be Written list has continued to grow despite my best efforts to actually corral the thing...

Rules :

The Bottom Dean Big bang is a creation event with Dean bottoming as a focus, while the premise definitely is inherently sexual, you do not have to include sexually explicit scenes. If you wish to include them, please be sure to follow the bang rules as listed below. Because of the nature of this bang, all participants should be above the age of 18. Rules will be available both here on Tumblr and in the discord. (updated as of January 2025) Warnings: -At this time, this bang is a Destiel Centric event.                   - At this time, all written works should be in English                   - All sexual situations are to be between characters that are over the age of 18. We expect all participants to respect all other participants in the bang and on the server.

The minimum word count for this bang is 10k

Just like 2023, my 2024 has been plagued by writer's block and burnout. But also by a massive burst of creation that brought me a lot of joy, even if it didn't result in a lot of posted words. Trust me when I say the numbers below do not accurately depict how much creativity I experienced 😁

The Sun, The Moon, and The Night. (38,693)

Caelnir and Kestrel are half brothers who were swept up by the mindflayer nautiloid at the same time. When they crash back to Faerun, they meet a pale elf who manages to snare both of them with his charms. In which Astarion sets out to seduce Caelnir, the protector of the duo, in hopes of having that shield extend to him. Kestrel sees through Astarion right from the start, and wants to give him the help and support and blood he needs--if he’ll ask for it. And Caelnir is just confused, but kind of into it.

I actually started this in late 2023, but it was my main project in 2024. It's the root of my massive explosion of creativity, and it's a shame I can't count up the thousands of words of private plotting and world building and character development I did with @joasakura. I didn't post as much as I'd like to of this story, but I had way more fun with it than the word count reveals 😆

The Tav brothers have just recently lost their mother, and they're still learning to navigate their new family dynamic through their grief. All this emotional upheaval is not good for young Kestrel, who doesn't yet know what powers are blooming within him.

Cael and Dem are still getting to know each other after Dem comes to live with the Order of the Silver Dark. They talk about their moms, and it gets a little bit emotional.

Elves take hair grooming very seriously, and doing it for someone else is very intimate and only shared with people they are very close with. Cael has been caring for Dem's hair for a few months, since Dem was brought to live in Cael's home. Today, he'd really like to return the favor, but he doesn't feel worthy of even asking.

These 7 short stories are all time stamps in my series The Brothers Tav. Anyone who has been reading my stuff for a long time knows that I generally focus on writing romance stories, but this year I got really into writing about the family dynamic of my OCs Caelnir and Kestrel and their older adopted brother Demagh who I have officially stolen from @joasakura lol...I've been exploring their past through these timestamps, and it's been a great way to keep myself writing even when I was lagged out on the main story. They've made me laugh and they've made me cry, and I even threw a little smut in for spice, and I hope that these OCs continue to inspire me in 2025 💜

Dragon Age The Veilguard finally came out! And while I don't know that it's going to inspire any grand epics from me, I'm glad it scratched a few words out of my brain. Here's hoping that maybe there'll be a few more. I wouldn't mind writing more short fics about my Rook and either Emmrich or Lucanis in the future.

A Destiel fic! I lost their voices a few years back, which has left me very sad, since I still have many ideas for them. It was nice to revisit them, even for a short little thing like this.

Overall, I'm really pleased with what writing I've managed to do in 2024. I mentioned last year that I'm severely burned out on writing, and that has not gotten any better this year, so I'm grateful that I was still being creative. And I took a couple prompts! A very extremely rare activity for me, and I appreciate that I got a few even though ask box games aren't as popular as they used to be. (Not to mention the fact that I've shifted away from a fandom full of friends to one full of strangers.)

I also did a whooooole bunch of beta reading! It's not exactly writing, but if I can't crank out my own words, I'm thrilled to help others create their own. Thanks to everyone who trusted me with their stories this year. Your babies are beautiful, and you should be proud of them!

And thank you everyone who has been supporting my writing this year. It's extremely difficult to write for myself these days, and knowing that I'm writing for others too has helped a lot when I struggle the most.

My plan for 2025 is to keep plunking away at stories that make me happy. Maybe I'll work on my rewrite of Peace, or I'll knock loose the block and finish one of my WIPs. Or maybe I'll just let my brain relax and do some reading. Whatever comes next, I hope it results in something creative 😊

When I think about how exhausting I personally find this fandom from time to time, I feel so very, very sorry for Jensen, because he literally cannot win. No matter what he says, there is someone vilifying him. And yet, he continues to show up for the spnfamily, time and time again, because he, like us, cannot let Supernatural go.

Do the people who hate him (hate his answers, hate his fence-sitting, hate his vagueness), realise that without him we wouldn't even have these cons and these answers to be angry or elated about? Yes, there are multiple other cast members who continue to show up to these conventions, and they are also important, but it is Jensen's involvement that keeps them going - well at least the Creation ones. Let's look at CE's 2025 SPN schedule...

None of those headers have anyone other than Jensen confirmed. Whether you like it or not, Supernatural conventions continue to exist because of Jensen's brainrot/role as executive producer in any future SPN properties.

The ship war in this fandom has Jensen in no-man's land - we all know that - and not only can he not choose a side, I don't believe he actually wants to. The extreme ends of both sides are full of toxicity and erasure, which even as an objective outsider is disheartening to see. Fanon often planes away the nuance from the story, and leaves a hollow shell of what brought us all here in the first place. Bronlies wanting everything to be about just Sam and Dean are erasing the found family of the extended cast of characters. But hellers wanting everything to be about Dean and Cas fucking nasty on the bunker's map table are doing exactly the same thing. What makes Supernatural compelling is more than just the relationship Dean has with either Sam or Cas.

We cannot know for sure how Jensen feels about destiel, but anyone with eyes and common sense can see how it has evolved over the past ~16 years. But we can also see that Jensen feels very strongly about the bond between the Winchester brothers, and how that is at the core of the whole show. Two things can be true at once, and the black&white thinking of fandom makes that difficult to safely articulate sometimes.

I have faith in the jackles long con, but I am also excited to see that play out in the way we least expect.

Do you think Jensen is uncomfortable being asked about Destiel?

yes but i don't think it's because the concept of destiel makes him uncomfortable at this point. i think it's because every single time he speaks about destiel, no matter what he says, a whole bunch of people are upset in a whole bunch of different directions. he says cas was dean's best friend and well that just means he's homophobic because obviously cas was more than that, but also how dare he forget about sam. he says dean was thinking that he should've said i love you too and well he obviously meant it platonically and how dare anyone think otherwise but also he stuttered when he said it so he was trying to hold back slurs. he says cas's confession testament isn't something that needs to be resolved which obviously means they will never ever address it despite the 6000 other things he's said about wanting to give it the weight it deserves when dean and cas reunite. jensen hates gay people and specifically he wants to spit in hellers faces but also how dare he say things that legitimize destiel he's a monster and this is why we love jared.

My brain hates me and, as I try to write next Secret Weapon, Secret Family because I WILL finish this fic before 2025 so help me Jack. And Chuck! (I wanted to finish the chapter before 2022 but given that I overslept and have a family dinner, that's not happening), it gave me an outline for a fic with the WEIRDEST paring ever. And, because I know If I don't write the outline, I will not be able to get it out of my mind, and at the same time is a bit too similar to SW,SF... I am writing the outline here for you.

It is John/Michael, maybe Destiel in the future. (The maybe it's because it's ME, but to be fair, most of the idea is pre-series, and it's John/Michael as the focus, with Good!Father Jhon and Good!Michael because my brain will not stop wishing Dean had good parental figures)

It's a bit... unfair to Mary, I will admit. But also, knowing me, I'd hammer that into a better situation.

So, we know that John and Mary were TURNED into soulmates and forced together by the Cupids. And that, once she HAD the normal life that she had wanted for so long, Mary didn't really wanted that normal life since there was always one more hunt, one last thrill, and she kept leaving John, who at that point was NOT the drill sergeant from hell, so we can imagine that the magic was waning. So what if at some point, BEFORE Dean was conceived, Mary and John just... stopped having sex. Still living together, John still loving Mary, but Mary -tired from hunts, stressed over the secret, and so on- just isn't in the mood and John doesn't push it.

Michael sees this and realizes that, unless those two start sexing it up? His vessel is not getting born, and well, neither is Lucifer. He also figures out what Azazael plan is -since, at this point, he is still on "go Apocalypse" team- and so decides that, from a completely strategic point, it's better for him if Lucifer's vessel never gets psychic powers. And thus, he gets the MOTHER OF BAD IDEAS: He goes down to Mary in a dream, and offers her a new deal: He needs to use her body as a vessel for two years, where she can be in heaven with her family in the meantime, and in exchange, her deal with the Yellow Eyed Demon is null and void. John will still be alive, but Michael will keep the family home protected so that there's nothing coming there in 7 years time. Since Mary DOES miss her parents, and now that the Cupid magic is almost gone, she is wondering if she should've used her deal to save her mother or her father, AND canonically she always cared more for Sam and how her deal affected Sam, she accepts.

So Michael, in Mary's body, becomes THAT perfect Mary that John remembers in the series. The great wife who supports him, the woman who looks at him with love in his eyes, and, of course, their sex life gets back in track, even when Michael at first is doing this by the book and John DOES notice that Mary has changed so it takes a couple of months, which are more than enough for Michael to start getting attached because if Dean Winchester is Angel's catnip, it can be genetic (And hell, since in the series, ADAM is the one who ends up softening Michael a bit? IT's a Winchester trait, not a Campbell trait and yes, I am going to argue vessel genetics). And, roughly 3 months into this, Michael-in-Mary's body gets pregnant with Dean (Which means, that yes, I'd have to do some narrative gymnastics as that means that for Point of No Return, THAT Mary was Michael if I stay in canon). And once he has Dean in his arms? He's GONE. Like, no way he's going to let his baby boy (his and John's baby boy, because he's very attached to the man now to the point that nope, using him as a vessel is out of the cards either because then he couldn't kiss him!) go to hell.

Yes, Raphael is headdesking hard in this because how could Michael, the great strategist, not see this coming. But just as in my other fic, he ends up on team "Michel wants to be a daddy, guess that makes me an uncle".

But of course, Michael has to keep his word, and leave Mary once Dean turns one and he's sure that Dean is a normal little boy and not an accidental Nephelim (Spoiler alert, Dean is an accidental Nephelim but as this time is the ANGEL who gave birth, and not the human, Dean is completely normal at birth), so he leaves and Mary comes back.

Mary is, understandably, VERY WEIRDED OUT that now she has a one year old boy. It's not that she hates the kid, it's just that she doesn't feel Dean as her's because... well, he's not. And while she manages to hide her reactions well, and John chalks them to delayed post-partum depression, especially with Mary sudden shift to her OLD personality, but it does stretch their relationship thin and while John is still the loving father we saw for like, five seconds in the pilot, Mary is more like we saw her in Season 13, not really wanting to bond with Dean because she doesn't feel as if he's her kid.

She goes back to hunting in secret and during one of those hunts she hooks up with a stranger (Maybe Ketch?) and there's a bit of an accident and 9 months later, well, there's Sam. (And yes, this is important because if both Sam and Dean are born to the same set of parents, and Adam, being born of just John, is a suitable perma-vessel for Michael? Then it leds to reason that Sam could be a vessel for Michael and Dean a vessel for Lucifer and there's no reason why Lucifer wouldn't try the "If you say yes, I will leave your brother alone" card on Dean and succeed way back in season 5)

John doesn't suspect Sam is not his because at this point, Michael has been visiting him in dreams, as Mary, because he just can't stay away from John and their boy. So he has a bit of a confusion of when the love making is real and when it's a dream so... yeah.

Michael is ALSO very diligent in protecting the Winchester's home so that Azazael can't get in there to bleed on Sam. Think Raphael protecting Chuck as a prophet level of overprotection. And also starting to tell heaven that nope, Apocalypsis Now is not happening Now (Uriel in particular is not happy about it, but Zachariah, the booth licker that he is, pretends to fall in step with the new orders).

BUT, but, but... Unfortunately, he was too specific in his promise about protecting the WINCHESTER house, and Azazael is nothing if not resourceful, and so, he possesses Sam's pediatrician in order to bleed in his mouth, even if it's in the daylight. And when he's caught by Dean who sees his real face and screams scared, he, well, sets the whole pediatrician office on fire. John manages to save Dean, and Mary saves Sam, but she realizes Sam is in danger and thus, fakes her and Sam's death, leaving John and Dean alone to think they died in the fire.

Mary goes back to the Campbell's compound where, because of Uriel who wants the Apocalypse to happen, Samuel Cambpell is back from the dead. So Sam is going to be raised as a hunter, in the OLD style.

John, on the other hand, starts spiraling the same way he did in canon, and finds out about the Supernatural thanks to Missouri, who doesn't see Mary is alive because Mary is being heavily shielded by demons. Thus, he decides to look for the thing that killed his wife, and yadda yadda.

Dean is mute because of the shock of course, but at first John is not able to see that.

Michael comes to John in dreams, trying to get him to get some peace, but John, now aware of the Supernatural, quickly realizes that Michael is NOT Mary, and they fight in the dreamscape, until Michael admits that yes, he's not Mary, but he IS Dean's mother. At this point, he starts showing up male in John's dreams (Still undecided if he looks like Karl Urban because OMG, Karl Urban, or Tim Omundson because if Cain is the Winchester line, then it would make sense that Cain to be Michael's vessel but then I'd have to go and explain why so yeah), and that's the main meat of the fic, John realizing that the Mary he loved was Michael, and both of them raising Dean to be a happy child AND a hunter -especially when they realize, when Dean is about 15, that ooops, he IS a Nephelim and has powers -wings and all. Oh, and while John still wants revenge for Sam and Mary, once he realizes that his true love was Michael all along, he becomes less intense and thus the Family Business is more "Saving People" than "Hunting Things", and, once Michael realizes that nope, Mary is NOT in heaven -where she SHOULD be- it's more of a "where the hell is Sam who is my son, because well, if Mary wanted a divorce, she could have gotten it".

(Then there would be some extra angst when John, taught by Michael, realizes that not ALL supernatural creatures are evil way earlier, so while he STILL looks for hunts and still kills creatures, he's more like Dean post season 7 where he actually ASKS questions before shooting everything in sight, and gets some hunters like Bobby and Ellen -and Ellen's husband who would of course not die here- and Pastor Jim on the same page which doesn't sit well with the Campbells... who go and get the British men of letter so we have that Season 12 touched on. Oh, and of course, then Sam is raised as Sam Ketch. But that would be for a second part, the Destiel and conflict among the brothers. First part would be ALL about John/Michael's being good parents! And Raphael as a good uncle, re-organizing Heaven )
