DRAGON FIVE: Heo Ji-Nan

Since its the Year of the Dragon, wouldn't you guys mind if I post about the Fire Dragon bench? They're my side hyperfixation that I love writing about every so often 🥺

Also yes, I specify bench because I don't care much about the main team for now. At least outside of their dynamics with the benchers that is-

First we have Ji-Nan, the reserve keeper. He's so cute ;____;

His profile implies that he lives in Seoul despite being from the south, so I like to interpret that his family moved there at some point of his life.

Typical story of a parent managing to gain a better place to live at thanks to their job; the usual. While most of the family was ok with the moving, Ji-Nan does get homesick at times, specially of the warmer temperatures. His original home are the Jeju Islands, by the way.

Because of the sudden change of location, Ji-Nan still has it hard to get used to living in the big city overall. At least joining his school's soccer club helped him make some friendships, I guess.

So, about his issues with the cold, here's a cruel fact: Ji-Nan has cold intolerance, which makes enduring the Seoul winters even worse. To cope with them he tends to put on puffy jackets, scarfs, gloves, and tons of layers of clothing. Otherwise expect him to catch him a cold very quickly…

The little hat he wears is just something he bought in hopes to warm himself up.

He has an older brother, but that gets constantly on his nerves because of his mischievous and unneeded comments towards him. When Ji-Nan practices soccer, he likes to act as a striker, and he will celebrate intensely every goal he makes against his brother.

...Though, Ji's very hot-headed overall. He doesn't take jokes very lightly, and he gets pissed off easily. I don't see him as violent when he's angry, closest thing is that he's quite petty and tends to complain about others in secret. Soccer and goalkeeping are also ways he lets his fury out without hurting others, supposedly.

Though in very rare occassions, Ji-Nan CAN actually try and fight someone no matter the size.

I like the idea of Ji-Nan using Dai Bakuhatsu Harite a very different way than the one seen animated: While the main keeper uses many but enough hits to stop the ball, the reserve often hits the ball way too much and with too fast, causing it to be slightly burned after the final explosion. This is an unwanted side-effect that's caused by a badly performed move.

His relationship with main keeper Jo Jung-Soo is okay, given there isn't an actual rivarly; and even JS himself sees potential on Ji-Nan. Unfortunately, he is very aware that the reserve keeper often puts too many of his negative emotions into his moves; which isn't neccesarily a bad thing but such intense things create the side-effects we mentioned earlier. So Jung-Soo always keeps an eye on him, and steps in is Ji-Nan is being his usual salty self.

"Don't let your fire get too intense, it will damage your playing style".

JN unfortunately doesn't have the best reaction to this, feeling often misunderstood. But at least later on the FFI he realizes healthier ways to express his negative feelings while also finding peace of mind. He probably got onto meditation or something

Because of the bad relationship with his older brother, te tends to become attached to pretty much every single older boy that treats him better. Jung-soo? The coach? The other benchers? You name it. Please ignore the fact that 3/4 of the bench aren't great people, the bar is just that low for him.

Though, Hwan Woo-Myang having a similar personality to his brother -always teasing Ji-Nan and his skills- can cause some tension between the two. Even if he's just being mischievous, this still is able to open the worst side of the little keeper, straight up talking shit behind him at any chance.

...For something more positive at least, time did make both boys mature a bit; removing Ji-Nan's petiness and making Woo-Myang a bit more considerate for others. After a re-encounter as adults the two surprisingly bonded well this time around, and they soon became good friends. Nowadays every weekend Woo-Myang likes to take Ji-Nan to eat and/or sing together. They always are having fun!

Speaking of the future, after the FFI Ji-Nan was the only FD bencher that kept playing football. Despite everything he never gave up and kept training, and soon enough after perfecting his skills enough he was given a spot on a professional Seoul team.

Another thing that contributed to his rising fame was his bond with Jung-Soo, given that they were in pretty good terms and often tried to train together. Nonetheless, Ji-Nan prefers to go his own way, even as to wishing to soon play internationally unlike the main keeper (Who'd rather stay on Korea as to keep improving local football).

Last thing, but a huge issue that did held back Ji-Nan during his early football days was his height. After all, with the current best korean keeper being huge, why would anyone place their trust on a tiny one? To compensate that, he trains very hard almost daily, following a rough excersice routine crafted from trial and error. At least once his daily effort is done, he loves to eat a huge bowl of fresh fruit.

(And yeah, don't expect him to get any despective comment about his height very positively).

Synopsis :

Cha Soon-bong is a widower who has devoted his life to his three children, loving them despite their self-centred selfishness and disrespect. However, when he discovers that he has terminal cancer, he decides to use the time he has left to ensure their happiness when he is gone. His eldest daughter Kang-shim, after a failed relationship, has resigned herself to never marry and a lifetime of being alone; his eldest son Kang-jae, a brilliant oncologist, is resentful of his humble origins; and his youngest son, Dal-bong, is a drifter who claims that nothing seems to go right for him.

As part of his scheme Soon-bong takes his children to court, since he has received none of the filial piety that he is due; he asks instead for a cash sum that none of them can pay. The children settle instead for granting their father seven requests. As these requests are fulfilled they each in turn comes to realize the reason for their father's bizarre behavior. To make him happy, all that the children have left is to set right their own lives

My thoughts on this drama :

It's a little treasure in the midst of all those incredibly popular dramas. I'm not used to Family Drama, the ones airing early afternoon in Korea, but this one seduced me with the cast: Seo Kang Joon + Nam Ji Hyun + Park Hyung Shik? Sign me in immediatly! I had lots and lots of fun, cried buckets too. It's a very realistic story, withannoying yet lovely characters (except the aunt that I still depise because of her unending nosiness)... If one has time for the 53 eps run, then do not hesitate!

Tontonan diparuh pertama 2017

K-drama addict.

Adalah keterangan yang akan kutambahkan dibiodataku. Bagaimana tidak, diparuh pertama 2017, sebagian besar waktuku dilalui dengan menonton dan menonton. Aku menjadi peselingkuh bagi buku serta menunda janji tulisan pada dua orang teman. Kecanduan ini merupakan efek lanjutan dari tahun sebelumnya, di mana aku seakan bangun dari tidur panjang lalu kembali menyadari bahwa ya, sebenarnya aku adalah penyuka drama.

Drama korea.

Berdasarkan hasil pencatatanku selama enam bulan ini, ada belasan drama yang berhasil kuselesaikan. Terdiri dari drama on going, yang memang sedang happening di korea sana, maupun drama-drama ditahun lalu yang luput dalam radarku. Selain waktu, aku juga berinvestasi materi atas drama-drama tersebut. Keresahan dan ketidaksabaran untuk menyaksikan episode berikutnya ketika paketan data internet telah limited, memaksaku untuk rela menghabiskan puluhan hingga ratusan ribu dalam sebulan. Tak lupa aku juga harus berterimakasih untuk teman yang bersedia membagi koleksinya untuk dapat kunikmati. Serta wifi kantor yang kadang kugunakan jika ingin menghemat kuota yang sedang menipis.

Lalu, drama apa sajakah yang telah kutonton ?

Oh My Geum Bi

Drama ini telah dimulai dari 2016, namun pada awal 2017 lah drama ini memasuki episode akhirnya. Berkisah tentang seorang anak berusia 8 tahun yang menderita Niemann Pick tipe C (semacam demensia yang berujung pada hilangnya ingatan secara perlahan lalu akan mengalami kelumpuhan dan kematian). Anak tersebut mencari ayah kandungnya dan berniat untuk tinggal bersamanya. Rupanya, ayahnya adalah seorang penipu yang bahkan tidak menyadari kalau dia memiliki seorang puteri.

Kalau ingin tontonan yang lebih menyoroti hubungan ayah dan anak perempuannya. Drama ini dapat dimasukkan dalam daftar wajib tonton. Chemistry antara Heo Jung Eun sebagai Mo Geum Bi dan Oh Ji Ho sebagai ayahnya (Mo Hwi Chul) terlihat natural dan menggemaskan. Selain itu Park Jin Hee yang berperan sebagai Go Kang Hee wanita yang ingin ditipu oleh ayahnya, wanita yang memiliki penyesalan atas kematian seseorang yang disayanginya di masa lalu, serta Lee Ji Hoon (Cha Chi Soo) yang berniat membalas dendam pada Mo Hwi Chul, karenanya dia mendekam dalam penjara.

OMGB, menghadirkan kisah bahwa tak ada satupun orang tua yang tidak akan berusaha untuk membahagiakan anaknya. Meskipun, dimasa lalunya orang tua tersebut mungkin belum menjadi orang tua yang baik. Lagi pun drama ini juga memberikan harapan pada tiap orang yang memiliki penyakit serius, bahwa, keinginan untuk sembuh dari si penderita dapat menjadi salah satu faktor kesembuhan.

Kuberikan empat rubah – yang kerap mengunjungi Geum Bi dalam mimpinya - untuk drama ini.

Goblin

Malaikat maut VS Makhluk yang senantiasa abadi aka Goblin?

Males pake banget nonton drama berbau fantasi seperti ini, pada awalnya. Sebelum akhirnya diprovokasi oleh Mbak untuk tak ada salahnya menonton satu episode dulu. Lalu berakhir dengan jatuh cinta sementara sama drama yang dibintangi oleh Gong Yoo sebagai Goblin, Lee Dong Wook sebagai Grim Reaper, Kim Go Eun sebagai Ji Eun Tak serta Yoo In Na sebagai Sunny.

Dibalik kisahnya yang sudah tentu tidak sejalan dengan logikaku (namanya juga fantasi – terserah writernim nya lah), aku masih tetap dapat menikmati drama ini. Sinematografinya apik. Original Soundtracknya hampir sesuai sama selera kuping gue. Ada tiga, yang paling jadi favorit :

a.      Chanyeol (EXO), Punch - Stay With Me

b.      Crush - Beautiful

c.       Roy Kim, EZ (Ggot Jam Project) – Heaven

Empat pedang goblin untuk drama keluaran TvN ini.

Ps : Sangkin populernya drama satu ini, Indonesia pun gak mau kalah untuk menjiplaknya. Wahai pelaku industri kreatif negeri ini, tidak bisakah kita menciptakan imajinasi baru untuk tontonan yang lebih edukatif untuk masyarakat :D

The Star of Our Universe

Abaikan dulu kenyataan bahwa menurut keyakinanku tak akan ada kehidupan kedua di semesta setelah kematian. Peduli amat dengan logika cerita yang sedikit sulit kucerna, ‘bagaimana bisa mereka – tokoh dalam drama – menerima fakta begitu saja, bahwa perempuan itu ‘sebenarnya’ telah meninggal.

Aku menikmatinya.

Mini drama yang kutamatkan dalam tiga jam. Yang mengembalikan ingatan tentang penyesalahn yang kupikir telah hilang. Yang membuatku ingin seperti Kim Ha Na yang menuliskan 7 keinginan yang ingin dilakukan jika hidup kembali.

Kalau aku mungkin akan lebih dari tujuh. Dan aku suka dengan twist yang dihadirkan pada akhirnya.

“Satu-satunya ingatanku dari hidupku yang singkat. Bahkan bukan namaku sendiri, tapi bahwa aku mencintai penyanyi itu, Woo Joo. Tentu saja, itu berlanjut bahkan setelah kematian.”

Tiga tato bintang, untuk kerelaan Kim Ha Na menggantikan posisi orang lain, meski pada akhirnya dia harus berpisah dari orang yang disukainya.

Sebuah cincin pusaka peninggalan keluarga mengubah kisah seorang gadis tak (cukup) cantik, Mo Nan Hee. Berkat cincin tersebut dia mampu dekat dengan pemuda yang diam-diam dia sukai, Park Se Gun. Ironisnya, kekuatan ajaib dari cincin itu adalah menampilkan tipe ideal dari orang yang memakaikan cincin itu ke tangan si pemakai. Asalkan menggunakan cincin itu, Nan Hee akan terlihat ‘cantik’ di mata Se Gun. Meskipun tindakan yang dilakukannya menyedihkan, Nan Hee tetaplah bahagia sampai suatu ketika dia menyadari kalau wajah cantik yang menjadi tipe ideal dari Se Gun adalah wajah orang terdekatnya.

Sungguhnya alur dalam mini drama besutan MBC ini mudah ditebak, walaupun di penghujung episode ada sedikit twist namun aku sudah dapat menerkanya sedari mula. Meskipun begitu, entah mengapa aku menyukai drama ini dan menyayangkan mengapa hanya tiga episode saja. Ingin melihat lagi chemistry Kim Seul Gi dan Ahn Yeo Seop dalam drama 16 episode lainnya. Aku juga suka dengan analogi apel jelek dalam drama ini.

Sederhana dan manis.

Serta jangan takut menjadi jelek, karena di mata orang yang mencintaimu dengan tulus kamu akan terlihat cantik dengan sendirinya. Lalu bersyukurlah dengan apa adanya dirimu sekarang. Cintai dirimu sendiri sebelum mencintai orang lain.

Lima apel jelek untuk kisah persahabatan, kepercayaan untuk mencintai dan menerima diri sendiri..

Introverted Boss

"Believe in yourself. And you can do unbelievable things."

Sebagai sesama introverted, tak elok rasanya jika aku melewatkan drama satu ini. Tak ada satupun pemain utama dalam drama ini yang telah kuketahui sebelumnya. So, pilihanku menonton drama ini memang berdasarkan jalan ceritanya. Tentang seorang bos yang memiliki masalah dalam bersosialisasi dengan sekitarnya. Introverted abislah pokoknya.

Drama dibuka dengan peristiwa meninggalnya seorang sekretaris yang diduga karena tidak tahan dengan sikap ‘dingin’nya ala anak introvert. Kejadian itu seperti dibungkam agar tidak menghancurkan nama baik perusahaan, namun adik perempuan dari sekretaris tersebut berniat mencari tahu alasan apa yang menyebabkan kakaknya bunuh diri.

Bagi yang pernah menonton drama Yeon Woo Jin sebelumnya yakni Marriage Not Dating, kemampuan akting Woo Jin berbeda 180 derajat dalam drama ini. Dia sukses memerankan karakter introvert yang tertutup dan gugup dengan keadaan sekitar. Meski terlihat dingin di luar, sungguhnya sosok introvert hangat di dalam #uhukk. Berperan sebagai Eun Hwan Ki, aku suka saat dia melakukan monolog dalam pikirannya tentang apa yang harus dilakukannya jika dia sedang menghadapi suatu masalah. Hasil monolog itu menampilkan sisi lain introvert yang seringnya over thinking haha :D

Chae Ro Won yang dibintangi oleh Park Hye Soo menurut penonton drama di korea sana, kemampuan aktingnya masih mentah dan menganggu. Kalau dari kacamataku sih, tidak ada masalah sama sekali. Bicara soal OST dalam drama ini aku pun punya yang menjadi kesukaan yaitu : Sandeul (B1A4) - One More Step.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

Sahabat jadi cinta adalah plot paling klasik dalam sebuah drama percintaan. Meskipun begitu, selama penyajiannya menarik, alur seperti itu mampu memikat pencinta drama, WFKBJ contohnya. Dikisahkan Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung) adalah seorang mahasiswi angkat besi di salah satu universitas olahraga yang berteman dengan Jung Joon Hyung (Nam Joo Hyuk) mahasiswa dari klub renang. Konflik dimulai ketika Bok Joo bertemu lalu jatuh cinta dengan kebaikan Jung Jae Yi (Lee Jae Yoon) yang merupakan kerabat dari Jung Joon Hyung. Demi dapat melihat pujaan hatinya tersebut, Bok Joo rela melakukan hal yang tidak seharusnya dilakukan oleh mahasiswi angkat besi sepertinya.

Pada saat itu, kami tidak bisa tidak menunjukkan pembuluh darah kami keluar, wajah kami menjadi merah, dagu ganda atau triple dan lemak perut kami mencuat dari sabuk. Kehidupan kampus olahraga tak berbeda dengan kampus pada umumnya. Persahabatan antar mahasiswa satu klub. Kompetisi antar klub satu dengan klub lainnya untuk menunjukkan siapa yang paling diunggulkan dalam universitas tersebut. Klub angkat besi VS klub senam lantai/indah, misalnya.

Oh My Ghost

Drama ketiga – setelah Goblin, The Star of Our Universe – yang kutonton ditahun ini yang dalam ceritanya berkisah tentang alam lain – kematian, arwah penasaran, hantu dan semacamnya. Hantu (Shin Soon Ae – Kim Seul Gi) dalam drama ini adalah seorang perempuan yang berkeliaran, enggan pergi menuju alamnya karena masih diliputi penasaran. Dia menduga rasa penasarannya itu disebabkan karena dia meninggal dalam keadaan perawan. Dia juga lupa apa yang menyebabkan dia meninggal. Untuk itulah dia merasuki tubuh orang-orang yang berjiwa lemah untuk ‘menganggu’ nya dan menuntaskan rasa penasarannya.

Sampai disuatu hari dia merasuki tubuh Na Bong Sun (Park Bo Young), seorang perempuan pemalu, kaku, serta pendiam yang sering mendapat perlakuan tidak adil dari teman satu profesinya di restoran. Kepribadian Bong Sun berubah menjadi berbeda ketika dirasuki Soon Ae, yang ceria, periang dan aktif. Dari sanalah Soon Ae berusaha mencari tahu alasan kematiannya.

Kang Sun Woo (Cho Jung Seok) adalah main lead di drama ini, berprofesi sebagai chef yang diam-diam memperhatikan Bong Sun yang tidak dirasuki Soon Ae. Tetapi dia juga menyukai sikap ceria Bong Sun saat dirasuki oleh Soon Ae, hingga dia menduga Bong Sun adalah orang yang mempunyai masalah dengan mentalnya, karena sering berubah sikap dari pemalu dan pendiam menjadi riang serta ceria. Dan ketika akhirnya dia mengetahui bahwa ada dua jiwa yang sering bertukar di dalam tubuh Bong Sun, Sun Woo pun bingung siapakah sebenarnya yang dia sukai?

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Memiliki kekuatan super yang diperolehnya karena keturunan membuat Bong Soon sedikit kewalahan apabila dia tidak mampu mengontrol kekuatannya dengan baik. Karena sebuah insiden disuatu kota yang melibatkan preman setempat, Bong Soon (Park Bo Young) bertemu dengan An Min Hyuk (Park Hyung Sik) yang merupakan CEO dari Ainsoft, sebuah perusahaan video gaming. Ah Min Hyuk merasa ada seorang yang ingin membuatnya celaka hingga dia mencari seorang penjaga yang dapat melindunginya, dan menurutnya Bong Soon adalah orang yang tepat. Perempuan yang memiliki kekuatan super tak akan diduga oleh si pelaku sebagai bodyguardnya sehingga Min Hyuk dapat mengamati siapa yang berencana menyerangnya.

"Caranya gampang berubah dari teman menjadi sepasang kekasih, satu orang harus melangkah lebih dekat. Dan langkah itulah yang akan mengubah hubungan mereka."

Kurasa pantas jika script dari drama ini adalah script yang menjadi pemenang dalam kontes naskah terbaik yang diadakan oleh MBC. Bercerita tentang lika-liku kehidupan para pekerja kantor. Jika ingin tahu bagaimana kerasnya bekerja disebuah kantor yang kompetitif disarankan untuk menonton drama 16 episode ini.

Eun Ho Won adalah perempuan berusia 28 tahun yang teramat sering ditolak dalam mencari sebuah pekerjaan yang layak. Dia dianggap sudah terlalu tua dan minim pengalaman. Berbagai penolakan yang diterimanya, tak ayal membuatnya rapuh juga pada akhirnya. Dia berupaya untuk bunuh diri di sungai. Namun rupanya takdir berkata lain, dia selamat. Orang yang menyelamatkannya pun diam-diam membantunya agar mendapatkan pekerjaan yang diinginkan Ho Won. Hauline, perusahaan home furniture lah yang mempekerjakannya sebagai karyawan kontrak selama tiga bulan. Di sana dia bertemu dengan dua rekan seperjuangannya yaitu, Do Ki Taek (Lee Dong Hwi) dan Jang Kang Ho (Hoya) serta manager yang dulu pernah menolaknya dalam wawancara kerja, Seo Woo Jin (Ha Seok Jin).

Dalam drama ini, dapat dilihat bagaimana sulitnya mencari pekerjaan serta fenomena para pekerja kantor yang berusaha keras memenuhi target pekerjaannya. Para petinggi yang haus akan pujian. Rekan kerja yang ternyata punya keahlian menusuk dari belakang demi terlihat hebat di mata atasan, serta anggapan bahwa perempuan tidak dapat menjadi pemimpin yang baik dalam sebuah perusahaan (ketidaksetaraan hak laki-laki dan perempuan). Selain itu drama ini juga mengajak kita para penonton untuk selalu bersyukur dan bahagia atas hari-hari yang telah dilewati.

Drama ini juga sukses membuatku gregetan setengah mati atas lambatnya alur romantisme diantara dua tokoh utamanya. Udahlah lambat, endingnya itu menurutku kurang greget. Masak iya cuma ‘nempel’ doank? Gak sayang apa ya, Ko Ah Sung tidak memanfaatkan kesempatan untuk merasakan salah satu keahlian dari Ha Seok Jin, hehehe :p

Tentang OST, Hyun Jinju - Beautiful Story adalah yang menjadi kesukaan.

The Liar and His Lover

Drama ini membuatku berpikir apakah memang ada hal-hal ‘tak jujur’ dalam industri musik seperti yang Crude Play lakukan? Sebuah penipuan publik demi popularitas dan pundi-pundi kekayaan tanpa mengindahkan idealisme dalam bermusik?

Meski dinilai tidak sesukses versi Jepangnya oleh netizen, namun aku masih menikmati drama besutan TvN ini hingga akhir. Kisahnya sederhana, tentang siswa-siswi sekolah menengah yang bermimpi untuk menjadi musisi. Berkali ikutan audisi tapi berakhir sia-sia karena sang vokalis (Joy Red Velvet) mendadak blank dan gugup ketika di panggung. Sampai suatu ketika salah satu gurunya mengundang seorang produser musik untuk berkunjung ke sekolah dan mendengarkan suara anak didiknya tersebut.

Musik yang diusung dalam drama ini juga dibalut dengan kisah cinta antara produser dengan artis yang diproduserinya. Drama ini juga bercerita tentang pertemanan yang terjalin karena sebuah impian yang sama, bermusik. Crude Play dan Mush & Co adalah dua band yang menjadi inti drama ini. Bicarain OST, aku paling suka dengerin Your Days nya Joy, sama satu lagu yang dinyanyiin Joy pas di kelas, lagu yang berjudul Flying Butterfly, namun itu tidak termasuk ke dalam salah satu OSTnya.

It’s Okay That’s Love

Mulanya tau drama ini dari ost nya yang pernah dijadiin ost untuk naskah kolaborasi cerbung dengan seorang rekan. Yoon Mi Rae, I Love You. Pertama kali denger dan langsung suka.

Butuh waktu tiga tahun untuk akhirnya menonton lengkap dramanya. Sukak pake banget. Alurnya rapi dan konfliknya berlapis lagi kuat. Bagiku, intinya yah tiap orang punya permasalahan ‘mental’nya masing-masing, gak peduli dia itu seorang psikiater ataupun seorang penulis novel misteri yang terkenal. Permasalahan mental erat kaitannya dengan yang namanya masa lalu. Adakah sesuatu yang menyebabkan trauma di masa lalu. Baik secara sadar maupun enggak.

Jang Jae Yoel yang relateable denganku (tapi bukan yang skizo nya lah, seram amat kalau itu, hehe). Akting para pemainya yang daebak plus ost yang sesuai untuk mewakili tiap scene sukses buatku berkaca-kaca dibeberapa episode. Apalagi episode 13 hingga akhir. Sedih liat perjuangan JJY menemukan kenyataan bahwa Han Kang Woo adalah ilusi. Halusinasi.

Sebenarnya ada beberapa drama lagi yang telah kuselesaikan pada pertengahan 2017 ini, sebut saja The Masters Sun, My Secret Romance, High End Crush dan Individualist Miss Jin Young. Jadi kalau ditotal secara keseluruhan, ke-15 drama ini adalah ‘teman setia’ yang menemaniku selepas bekerja. Yang memenuhi ruang kosong di netbook kesayanganku.

Di paruh kedua 2017 nanti, kira-kira akan ada berapa lagi drama korea yang menjadi tontonan?
