POWERWOLF's latest studio album, "Wake Up The Wicked", came out in July via Napalm Records. The highly anticipated follow-up to the extremely successful "Call Of The Wild" (2021) was once again produced by Joost Van Den Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and marks a new benchmark and undisputed career highlight for the band. The new album is hard, surprising and full of variety. While staying true to their established, loved sound, POWERWOLF go one step further and showcase a different facet of their deft musical and technical skills. This is evident, for example, on the outstanding single "1589", which is based on a true story from the 16th century.

20 years after their formation in 2004, POWERWOLF are expanding their repertoire with the highest quality and adding many future live hits to their extraordinary discography. "Wake Up The Wicked" is yet another statement cementing the status of the band as a leading force in the world of heavy metal.

The first single from "Wake Up The Wicked", "1589" tells the story of Peter Stump, who lived near Cologne, Germany in the 16th century and is known today as the Werewolf Of Bedburg. After being defamed as a werewolf, the farmer confessed to several murders under torture and was cruelly executed on October 31, 1589. This morbid story has fascinated people all over the world ever since and has been picked up by National Geographic, among others.

For the video for "1589", POWERWOLF traveled to England to stage Stump's fate in the dark woods in a cinematic way. With carefully selected locations, countless actors and crew members, and impressive special effects, it marks the most elaborate music video production in the band's history to date.

Among the many poor decisions the Gorillaz crew has made over the years, playing with inter-dimensional portals is high on the list. One wrong twist of the dial, one wrong move, and what should be the exit to the garage of Kong becomes the entrance to...the garage of Kong. Airbags, broken glass, crunched metal and plastic, and the wail of the alarm of the struck vehicle create a very unpleasant jolt back to reality as the portal closes behind the incoming car.

One corner of the garage remains home to a gym frequented by Russ. A familiar bike- Noodle's- is safely covered and out of the way of the present carnage. Unfamiliar posters line the wall above a workbench littered with electronic parts. Boxes full of odds and ends are methodically arranged there.

A fire alarm is going off. Apparently, someone's kept up changing the batteries. The caved-in garage door gives one final creak before collapsing down on top of Murdoc's vehicle, adding insult to injury.

The door to the garage flies open, a tall, lanky figure ducking inside, hand up to shield his eyes as he squints into the gloom. The single, bare bulb he flicks on doesn't help him very much. A sleeveless T reveals two full tattoo sleeves in black and grey.

Furies präsentieren weiteren neuen Song

Die FURIES präsentieren heute die brandneue Single 'Stars Of Burning Lands'. Der neue Track der französischen Heavy Metal Band wird geschmückt mit der kraftvollen Stimme von Cheyenne Janas, der neuen Frontfrau des Quintetts und Halbfinalistin bei "The Voice of France" 2020. Nach den beiden im vergangenen Jahr veröffentlichten Titeln mit den Sängerinnen Brittney Slayes (UNLEASH THE ARCHERS) und Alessia Scolletti (ERA) enthüllen die FURIES heute die außergewöhnliche stimmliche Handschrift von Cheyenne, die im vergangenen September zur Stammbesetzung stieß und verspricht, die zukünftigen Kompositionen der Gruppe zu neuen künstlerischen Höhen zu führen. Van voor corona, maar het ademt de sfeer van een tijd waarin goede kennissen soms into Poetin raakten, of aan chemtrailexegese gingen doen, of overal satanische kinderpornonetwerken zagen. Of anders gingen mensen op kerkhoven gek doen bij kindergraven. Dat alles was ook in mijn online netwerken hevig zichtbaar. Nu is het oorlog in Oekraine. Geen virus, wel zo tastbaar, als staal en een drone. Iedereen doet nu veel gewoner.

Aetherna, in cammino verso il V HellFest

Gli Aetherna sono una alternative goth band romana con diversi anni di esperienza alle spalle. Dopo i classici cambi di formazione stabilizzano la line up che dà vita al primo disco. In questa intervista si raccontano, spiegano il loro concetto di underground, cosa significa per loro suonare dal vivo. Una chiacchierata che li porta verso l’esibizione del 1 luglio a Velletri in occasione del V Hellfest in una edizione il cui ricavato verrà devoluto completamente in beneficienza.

Una presentazione per chi non vi conosce

Ciao, siamo Marianna (Voce), Enzo e Vittorio (chitarre), Marco (basso), Giovanni (batteria) e insieme diamo vita agli AETHERNA, band Alternative gothic metal. La band nasce nel 2015 con un’altra formazione, nel 2019 pubblica il suo primo disco Darkness Land. Nel 2021 entrano nella Band Giovanni e Marianna e con la loro nuova influenza, possiamo dire oggi che siamo prontissimi all’uscita del nostro secondo Album che avverrà entro l’anno (attualmente è in fase di produzione). Purtroppo non possiamo dire molto a riguardo, tranne che sarà un album che rispecchierà le influenze di tutti: il risultato è un album con brani talvolta eterogenei tra loro, perché in ognuno emerge un pezzo di ognuno di noi. Siamo particolarmente soddisfatti del risultato, provare per credere!!!

Entriamo subito nel merito dell’intervista: per qualcuno la musica live sta morendo. Cosa ne pensate? Domanda complessa. Tralasciamo al momento la distinzione tra cover band e band che fanno inediti (perché per entrambe la risposta ha delle differenze). Escludiamo anche i gruppi Mainstream (i quali grazie al cielo riempiono ancora gli stadi). Per i gruppi appartenenti alla scena Underground a causa dell’avvento dello streaming che ha ridotto drasticamente la vendita dei dischi, l’attività live è diventata la principale (se non l’unica) forma di sovvenzione dell’attività musicale. L’offerta nel panorama musicale resta alta e il più delle volte qualitativamente eccellente, essendoci tantissime band degne di nota attive, che per passione (e si badi solo quella) continuano a portare avanti i loro progetti malgrado le enormi difficoltà. Basti pensare alle ore di studio e di prove, ai fondi necessari per la strumentazione, alla fatica del settaggio e allestimento del palco (talvolta per pochi minuti di esibizione). E tutto questo il più delle volte al solo scopo di portare la propria musica all’attenzione del pubblico. Inoltre va preso atto che ci sono pochi spazi per esibirsi e molti locali non hanno cura di agevolare e facilitare il compito dei musicisti (i quali talvolta si sentono più degli ospiti sgraditi che degli artisti invitati). Un giorno speriamo di poter rispondere a questa domanda con un secco no!!! La musica live è l’unica possibilità che le persone hanno per avere un legame diretto con le band e con la musica viva, Live appunto!! Ma al momento anche se non crediamo stia morendo, siamo consapevoli che sta diventando molto difficile da attuare.

Che cosa vuol dire per voi suonare dal vivo? Significa appunto dare VITA al nostro mondo attraverso la musica; esprimere le nostre idee, mostrare le nostre anime, il nostro lavoro che altrimenti, resterebbe solamente un sogno inespresso. Creare un legame con il pubblico e renderli partecipi della nostra essenza. e con molta umiltà diciamo che fino ad oggi tutto ciò è piaciuto molto a chi ha avuto la curiosità di affacciarsi.

Perché avete deciso di prendere parte ad un festival? In primis perché amiamo i festival. Ci danno l’occasione per conoscere nuove band e creare legami ed interazioni musicali. Quello che avviene dietro le quinte tra band che condividono lo Stage è qualcosa di fantastico. Nello specifico poi abbiamo abbracciato fin da subito la causa dei questo festival in particolare; la beneficienza è sempre un tema che merita ascolto e partecipazione ed il nostro lo avrà sempre!! Siamo fermamente convinti che uniti possiamo cancellare la parola impossibile dal vocabolario.

Secondo la vostra esperienza, come è cambiato il pubblico? Il pubblico cambia, e cambierà sempre. Ma non nel senso di attenzione nei confronti della musica stessa, quanto piuttosto nei confronti del genere musicale. Nuove sonorità, nuovi temi, nuovo tutto. Il Pubblico segue generi e stili musicali in eterna evoluzione, e questo dà vita ad un moto di cambiamento della musica stessa, che oggi deve correre alla stessa velocità di quel cambiamento. E’ inevitabile, il mondo in generale è in continua evoluzione ed è bene che sia così, permette a noi band di avere sempre stimoli nuovi su cui lavorare.

Vedete un cambio generazionale? Lo vorremmo tanto. Le nuove generazioni sono purtroppo influenzate da generi musicali “modaioli” dove la musica lascia lo spazio a testi accattivanti e ridondanti. Tuttavia confidiamo che con il passare del tempo possano scegliere davvero cosa è di loro gusto andando a cercare anche altro, non solo quello che viene propinato da algoritmi e simili. Infondo quello che notiamo è anche chi si trova “casualmente” ad un concerto live (magari per supportare un amico) ne rimane folgorato e amplia i propri gusti. Torniamo all’estrema importanza della musica live, unico veicolo per toccare il cuore del pubblico.

La difficoltà maggiore del suonare dal vivo? Le uniche vere difficoltà sono spesso le modalità di gestione degli eventi; insomma noi siamo una band! Dovremmo avere come unico pensiero quello di suonare e fare una performance eccellente… ed invece spesso le condizioni in cui dobbiamo esibirci sono estreme. Palchi piccoli senza ricicli d’aria, operazioni di scarico e ricarico strumentazione non agevolate. Tempi ristretti per montaggio e smontaggio dell’attrezzatura. Potremmo elencarne un’infinità, che comprendono la scarsa qualità delle set list presente nei locali, all’incompetenza dell’addetto audio che talvolta è improvvisato (con tutto ciò che ne consegue in termini di resa audio del concerto).

Cosa manca ai concerti, pubblicità, supporto del pubblico o cosa? Sarebbe bello ci fossero sempre entrambe le cose, che tra loro sono collegate ovviamente, ma il discorso è molto più ampio. Da un lato il pubblico spesso ha bisogno di buoni motivi e stimoli per andare ad un concerto. Dall’altro bisognerebbe più soffermarsi sulla logica del rendere invitante l’esperienza e non scoraggiarla con biglietti esosi. Per noi basterebbe che il pubblico fosse sufficientemente curioso di conoscere e conoscersi attraverso la musica. Catturare e stimolare il loro supporto poi è compito della band. Infine mancano spazi e opportunità per poter anche solo far ascoltare quello che si ha da dire (in termini musicali si intende). Se non hai un’ottima base finanziaria questo mondo è proibitivo.

Una band per cui vi piacerebbe aprire? Se la vogliamo proprio sparare in alto … Nightwish, Epica, Evanescence.

Una che vorreste aprisse per voi? Abbiamo molte band amiche e sono tutte validissime. Non riusciamo a sceglierne una soltanto … ahahahah

Il vostro concetto di underground? Beh se la vediamo in senso letterale Underground, con movimento sotterraneo, intendiamo tutte quelle realtà, come la nostra, che vive nel sotterraneo dove non arrivano troppe luci ma che molto spesso regala bellissime soddisfazioni. Come l’esser stati opener dei Lacuna Coil (15/06/2019) o per aver partecipato ai Rockin’ 1000 allo Stadio dei Marmi a Roma il 06/06/2023 (Giovanni e Marianna).

La sua ‘malattia’ peggiore? La cura? La sua malattia è l’estrema difficoltà nell’emergere. Molti investono tanto in termini di energie e passione e il più delle volte le aspettative che ne derivano vengono tradite. Pochi spazi, poche possibilità poca cura e rispetto per qualcosa che invece andrebbe protetto e costruito. Tutti i grandi della storia, dai Beatles ai Nirvana, passando per i Queen e Guns N’ Roses hanno iniziato nell’underground; se qualcuno non li avesse notati oggi mancherebbero pezzi di storia intramontabile. La cura sta proprio tutta la. Agevolare l’emersione dei talenti morti assopiti nell’Underground.

Una band underground che consigliereste? La nostra ahahahaha… tornando seri, senza dubbio i Neurasty

Una mainstream che ancora vi stupisce? Da dove iniziamo l’elenco? Ahahahah sicuramente gli Epica e gli Arch Enemy, Lacuna Coil, Stone Sour, Disturbed…. bastano? .

Una domanda che non vi hanno mai posto ma vi piacerebbe vi fosse rivolta? Ma quanti MI stoppati deve fare Vittorio in Inside? Ahahaha scherzi a parte, cosa c’è dietro la creazione della vostra musica? Quanto è difficile, quanta passione richiede e dove trovate la forza di andare avanti?

Se foste voi ad intervistare, ipotizzando di avere a disposizione anche una macchina del tempo, chi intervistereste e cosa gli chiedereste? Ai Lacuna Coil e gli chiederei quanto è stata dura la scalata al successo, così per capire come anni fa hanno potuto crearsi l’enorme fama che hanno, senza l’aiuto dei social e dei mezzi moderni. A Freddy Mercury, se si è mai sentito incompreso come artista. Agli Slipknot come hanno fatto a creare in un silos un fenomeno ad oggi di portata mondiale.

Un saluto e una raccomandazione a chi vi legge Siamo molto felici dello spazio che ci è stato dedicato e delle bellissime domande. La raccomandazione che facciamo è di andare ai concerti, il sostegno per tutte le band underground e che fanno brani originali è fondamentale. GRAZIE A TUTTI !!

"Wake Up The Wicked" was once again produced by Joost Van Den Broek at Sandlane Recording Facilities and marks a new benchmark and undisputed career highlight for the band. The new album is hard, surprising and full of variety. While staying true to their established, loved sound, POWERWOLF go one step further and showcase a different facet of their deft musical and technical skills. We had the pleasure of interviewing Laura Cox over Zoom video! The electric guitars and driving chorus will make the hearts of classic rock fans race. The discreet banjo provides the necessary southern flair and authentic sound. "Change of plans, no more pact with the devil..." it says in "So Long" — singing about a classic motif of the genre, while at the same-time, the increasingly topical subject of self-discovery and self-doubt. With over half a million subscribers on YouTube, and a similar amount on Instagram, Cox already has a large and loyal fanbase. The visibility on the Internet was followed by significant acclaim from critics and rock fans, especially for the incredible album Burning Bright (2019), released internationally by earMUSIC in collaboration with the French label Verycords. "So Long" lives on Cox's new album Head Above Water, which arrives on January 20th! The album contains 11 great rock songs bursting with energy and great personality. Recorded at ICP Studios in Brussels by Erwin Autrique, it was mastered by multiple GRAMMY-winner Ted Jensen (Eagles, Norah Jones, Green Day). Furies veröffentlichen neue Single mit Brittney Slayes

Heute erscheint die neue Single "Poisoned" der Pariser Band FURIES. Als Gastsängerin holte man sich für diesen Song UNLEASH THE ARCHERS-Frontfrau Brittney Slayes dazu. Das Video zu "Poisoned" feiert seine exklusive Premiere heute bei metal.de. Desweiteren ist die Band wieder komplett und freut sich, das neue Line-Up bekannt zu geben. In Kooperationen liegt eine alchemistische Kraft, so sagt man. Und wenn es eine Sache gibt, die das Schaffen von Musik antreibt, dann ist es der Glaube, dass alles möglich ist. Die FURIES haben dies im Jahr 2023 gut verstanden. Das damals aus Guillaume Jockey (Gitarre) und Zaza Bathory (Schlagzeug) bestehende Duo beschloss, eine Traumliste von Künstlern zu erstellen, mit denen es gerne zusammenarbeiten würde, und suchte gleichzeitig nach neuen festen Mitgliedern. Auf Anhieb belegte die beeindruckende Sängerin Brittney Slayes von der kanadischen Band UNLEASH THE ARCHERS den Spitzenplatz. Bei der Veröffentlichung ihres Debütalbums „Fortune’s Gate“ im Jahr 2020 erkundeten FURIES die Diskographie von UNLEASH THE ARCHERS, teils weil ihr Name seltsamerweise ihrem herausragenden Titel „Unleash The Furies“ ähnelte und teils weil beide Bands gelegentlich zusammen in Playlists auftauchten. Im selben Jahr veröffentlichten die Kanadier auch ihr hochgelobtes Album „Abyss“. Das Duo stellte sich vor, dass Brittney Slayes, die weithin als die talentierteste Frontfrau des Power Metal gilt, einem ihrer Tracks ihre kraftvolle und epische Stimme verleihen würde. „Poisoned“, 2021 von Guillaume Jockey in einer Welt komponiert, die immer noch im Lockdown ist, tendiert zu dunkleren Tönen und spiegelt die Erkundung des Gitarristen über die Grenzen eines einzelnen Stils hinaus wider.
