This is me, and I’m not trying to be confusing, but the above paragraph that I’m cutting into now is verbatim Morgenstern; he was continually referring to his wife in the unabridged book, saying that she loved the next section or she thought that, all in all, the book was extraordinarily brilliant. Mrs. Morgenstern was rarely anything but supportive to her husband, unlike some wives I could mention (sorry about that, Helen), but here’s the thing: I got rid of almost all the intrusions when he told us what she thought. I didn’t think the device added a whole lot, and, besides, he was always complimenting himself through her and today we know that hyping something too much does more harm than good, as any defeated political candidate will tell you when he pays his television bills. The thing of it is, I left this particular reference in because, for once, I totally happen to agree with Mrs. Morgenstern. I think it was unfair not to show the reunion. So I wrote one of my own, what I felt Buttercup and Westley might have said, but Hiram, my editor, felt that made me just as unfair as Morgenstern here. If you’re going to abridge a book in the author’s own words, you can’t go around sticking your own in. That was Hiram’s point, and we really went round and round, arguing over, I guess, a period of a month, in person, through letters, on the phone. Finally we compromised to this extent: this, what you’re reading in the regular type, is strict Morgenstern. Verbatim. Cut, yes; changed, no. But I got Hiram to agree that Harcourt would at least print up my scene—Ballantine has agreed to do the same—it’s all of three pages; big deal—and if any of you want to see what it came out like, drop a note or a postcard to Urban del Rey at Ballantine Books, 201 East 50th Street, New York City, and just mention you’d like the reunion scene. Don’t forget to include your return address; you’d be stunned at how many people send in for things and don’t put their return address down. The publishers agreed to spring for the postage costs, so your total expense is the note or card or whatever. It would really upset me if I turned out to be the only modern American writer who gave the impression that he was with a generous publishing house (they all stink—sorry about that, Mr. Jovanovich), so let me just add here that the reason they are so generous in paying this giant postage bill is because they fully expect nobody to write in. So please, if you have the least interest at all or even if you don’t, write in for my reunion scene. You don’t have to read it—I’m not asking that— but I would love to cost those publishing geniuses a few dollars, because, let’s face it, they’re not spending much on advertising my books. Let me just repeat the address for you, ZIP code and all:
Urban del Rey Ballantine Books 201 East 50th Street New York, New York 10022
and just ask for your copy of the reunion scene. This has gone on longer than I planned, so I’m going to repeat the Morgenstern paragraph I interrupted; it’ll read better. Over and out.

So in the Princess Bride,Westley keeps calling Prince Humperdink ugly ......Which is so weird to me cause.....Chris Sarandon is fucking pretty in this film
Tumblr media
Then again....Humperdink DID kill Westley for a few hours and WEstley is trying to intimidate him but still it always felt like a weird insult to apply to him
I dunno it reminds me of that scene in Barbie wher she calls herself ugly and Helen Mirren points out MArgot Robbie is very pretty

speaking of the timeless video this went crazy i saw it the other day and i was like wowie. made me reconsider the princess bride being in the timeless video. you weren’t there because it was in my head but there was a very heated debate about whether to include buttercup and westley it was a whole deal and ultimately they did not make it but what if they should have… like the thing of it is that the princess bride is obviously about storytelling which is very cassie core hence why they were almost included. but ultimately i was just like well what the fuck do westley and buttercup have to do with ty and kit. like they’re not even the same really. unless i want to squint and then i can make anything the same as anything. because i have the curse. i suppose the concept of coming back from the very brink of death for love is very cassie coded. ultimately i don’t see kit herondale as a pirate. although i suppose he’s really more buttercup anyway due to his rapunzel type swag i’ve always said he has. if you looked you could find a post of mine from like 2022 ranking every tsc couple by how much i think they could do tangled/rapunzel in general. and despite helen and aline literally being rapunzel in cassie’s fairy tale tsc art series i still put my guys at number one. because of course i did… kit is the princess trapped in a tower and ty is the rogue who opens the door….. and i’ve always said this. what the hell was i originally talking about. oh yeah
and i believe in both of those options equally to be honest

You know, the Arrowverse did a big crossover adapting Crisis on Infinite Earths, and it's still better than the big budget Flash movie, because it had cameos from actors who were still alive, like Burt Ward, Kevin Conroy, John Westley Shipp, Tom Welling, and Erica Durance.
It's sad how the same miniseries that made Kevin Conroy's Bruce Wayne a bad guy still did a better job paying tribute to the actors they got than the Flash movie.
We don't talk about the dis-respect that episode focusing on Batwoman did to Kevin Conroy just to hype up Kate...just, we don't, otherwise we'd be here all day.
But it really does say a-lot when even the CW, known for being pretty bad nowadays when it comes to it superhero stuff, was able to be more respectful in their multiverse by...just not reviving dead actors and just calling in actors still alive at the time and on top of that, not CGI'ing them up like Flash did to Helen's Supergirl. Seriously, if Burt Ward's Robin appeared in Flash, it'd be pure CGI instead of just having Burt Ward reprise the role.

💕 self-love time! talk about which ones of YOUR creations (edits, artworks, fanfics) you like the most then send to other creators to do the same 💕
TORIIIII I love you so much 😭❤️❤️
It's honestly hard for me to pick, because I've genuinely enjoyed writing so many of them (even if they weren't my best work), but I decided to go with a top 3 (in random order)
Peony (Peggysous)
This is a fic I wrote for the first Peggysous Week (back in 2020!!) and I think it was semi-recently after I first watched Endgame and was SO MAD with the scene at the end with Steve and Peggy that I decided to take the chance to write something that still fit with Marvel's new established canon and didn't break up my otp 😂 I'm still super happy with how it turned out, and I think it's a sweet and heartfelt fic that I really enjoyed writing (so thank you for enabling me to lmao)
2. The Undead Scourge (The Originals x Harry Potter)
This I'm pretty sure was born out of a one-off Wattpad comment on a longer story I've written there that's not on Tumblr, something along the lines of "I wonder how the Mikaelsons would react to Rita Skeeter's anti-vampire article" and I decided that was a very fun and funny prompt and made this lol. I still enjoy rereading this one and it feels like such a random crossover but it was super fun to write and at least in my opinion is super fun to read
3. The Dread Pirate Roberts (Westley (Princess Bride) x Reader)
This is one of my newest fics that I wrote for the Year of Themed Creation (it's my March entry) but I just had SO much fun writing it (clearly there's a theme in what makes something a favorite for me lol). I've loved The Princess Bride since I was a kid and Westley was one of my OG childhood crushes, so getting to write a fun story set in that world that includes story-typical epic romance with Westley (especially when there's not a lot of that out there for him) was great, and I think it turned out pretty good too
Going back through all my old works really made me smile (most of the time) while I was doing this positivity boost, so thank you Tori!! It was a really fun challenge, and it made me fall back in love with some of my old writing, which is always a much-needed nice feeling. Tagging some mutuals, but any writers or creators who see this, PLEASE do it! Gotta spread the creator self-love 😄❤️
No pressure tags: @ghostofskywalker (I saw somebody already re-sent this to you but I don't care, I wanna see at least one more honorable mention if you're up for it ❤️) @arttheclown-coveredinblood @hellotvshowtrash @auroracalisto @space-helen @madame-fear @startrekkingaroundasgard @oonajaeadira @valkyriepirate

Paul Robeson, Irene Dunne, Hattie McDaniel, and Helen Morgan in Show Boat (James Whale, 1936)
Cast: Irene Dunne, Allan Jones, Charles Winninger, Paul Robeson, Helen Morgan, Helen Westley, Queenie Smith, Sammy White, Donald Cook, Hattie McDaniel. Screenplay: Oscar Hammerstein II, based on his stage musical play from a novel by Edna Ferber. Cinematography: John J. Mescall. Art direction: Charles D. Hall. Film editing: Bernard W. Burton, Ted J. Kent. Music: Jerome Kern, Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics), P.G. Wodehouse (lyrics), Robert Russell Bennett (incidental music).
Productions of Show Boat over the years are almost a barometer of the changes in racial attitudes. In the original 1927 Broadway production, for example, the opening song, "Cotton Blossom," sung by dock workers, contained the line "N------s all work on the Mississippi." The 1936 film changed the offensive word to "Darkies," which today is not much less offensive, so contemporary performances usually change the line to "Here we all work on the Mississippi." Today, we wince when Irene Dunne as Magnolia appears in blackface to sing "Gallivantin' Aroun'," a number created for the film, and we have to acknowledge that minstrelsy was still prevalent well into the mid-20th century. But Show Boat also presents structural problems. It is front-loaded with its best Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II songs: In the original production, "Make Believe," "Ol' Man River," "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Life Upon the Wicked Stage," and "You Are Love" all appear in Act I, leaving only "Why Do I Love You?" and "Bill" for Act II, among reprises of some of the other songs plus some oldies like "After the Ball." The film doesn't solve that problem: In fact, it omits "Life Upon the Wicked Stage" and "Why Do I Love You?" entirely, except as background music. It replaces them with a few new songs, including "I Have the Room Above You," a duet for Magnolia and Gaylord Ravenal (Allan Jones), and "Ah Still Suits Me," a somewhat too racially stereotyped duet for Joe (Paul Robeson) and Queenie (Hattie McDaniel), but they're still part of the first half of the film. And the plot seems to dwindle off into anticlimax after Gaylord leaves Magnolia. But James Whale's film version is one of the most successful translations of an admittedly imperfect stage musical to the screen. One reason is that it gives us a chance to see two legendary performers, Paul Robeson and Helen Morgan. Robeson's version of "Ol' Man River" is not only splendidly sung, but Whale also gives it a magnificent staging, beautifully filmed by John J. Mescall, that emphasizes the backbreaking toil that Robeson's Joe sings about. Morgan's performance as Julie makes me wish that Kern and Hammerstein had given her more songs, but her "Bill" is extraordinarily touching, and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man" becomes, after her introduction, a lively ensemble number for her, Dunne, McDaniel, and Robeson. It's also good to see McDaniel in a role that gives her a chance to sing -- she began her career as a singer. Too bad that Queenie's big number, "Queenie's Ballyhoo," was cut from the film. MGM remade Show Boat in 1951, with Kathryn Grayson as Magnolia, Howard Keel as Gaylord, and Ava Gardner as Julie, under the direction of George Sidney. Lena Horne wanted to play Julie, but the studio chickened out, fearing the reaction in the South. (Gardner's singing was dubbed by Annette Warren.) MGM also tried to suppress the 1936 film, which is vastly superior. Fortunately, it failed.
