ロンドン旅行　Day.5 前半

９月３日　レコード会社に突入

最寄りのHoxton駅の近くにベーカリーカフェがあるので、モーニングでもしたいなーと思ってたのに寝坊する。友人たちも遅く起きる。ここにきてみんな疲れが出ているもよう。結局滞在中ベーカリーには行けなかった。良さげなところなので無責任におすすめする。

アパートメントにキッチンがついてるから「一回は自炊したいね」と言っていたのでみんなで自炊することに。徒歩１分のスーパーに行く。イギリスのスーパーは規模は小さくても、温めたりオーブンで焼けばすぐ食べれるレトルトがすごく充実している。エスニックなカレーや海鮮パスタ、サーモンのグラタンなどを買った。そしてなぜかしきりに友人が「サンドイッチをつくりたい」と言っていたため、サンドイッチの材料も購入。分担して調理。

できた。

食べた。美味しかった！

昔のイギリスのスーパーのレトルト食品ってあんまりいいイメージなかったんだけど、日本の冷凍食品のように進化してる！程度の差はあれど、そういう技術というのは世界的に徐々にレベルがあがるもんなんやろなー。

Heavenly Recordingsに凸してきた

今回の旅の目的であるイギリスの音楽レーベルHeavenly Recordingsに行く。というのも今回の旅行の同行者である花田くんは、福岡では今ライブハウスに引っ張りだこのサイケプログレ（個人の主観です）バンド暗黒怪獣のフロントマン。彼がCDを売り込もうとして、目を付けたのがHeavenly Recordingsだった。日本人バンドCHAIがイギリスで契約したレコード会社である。

NEO KAWAIIの女の子たちCHAI。最近日本の深夜音楽番組でもよー見る。

まず花田くんが仕入れた情報によると、Heavenly Recordingsの本社の住所は高級住宅街ノッティングヒルのPortobelloらしいが、念のため今から押しかけていいか確認のメールをしてみると…

���口のダニーは夏休みのようで、キャサリンにメールしろと自動返信が来た。と思いきや、、

住所ノッティングヒルちゃうやん。

ということで、ノッティングヒル説と新住所説どちらを信じるか審議を行い、ダニーが普段仕事している（と思われる）新住所オールドコンプトンストリートへ向かうことに。どうやら歩いて5分程のバス停からバスで一本のようだ。バスに揺られているとSOHOというエリアに着いた。KATSU CURRYを推してる店が多いよ…。

有名店WagamamaのVegan Menuカツカレー。これ大豆ミートなの？

たびたび昔と比べしまうが、昔のSOHOといえば若者向けの店や中国人が営む日本料理店やSEX SHOPが乱雑に並んでる地域というイメージだったが、いまやかなり洗練されていた。オシャレなカフェやビストロなんかがひしめき合う、福岡で言えば大名のような場所になっていた。

Googleさん頼りにストリートを探しあて、建物を特定し、インターフォンの前で確認。

Dial 104！迷うことなくインターフォンを押すが出ない。誰も出ない。ちょうど昼過ぎだったので昼休みか。どうするか迷ってたら、綺麗で小さくて色気のあるベッキーみたいな女の人が建物に入り、ドアを開けて待っていてくれたので建物に堂々と侵入できた。イギリス人優しすぎん？

イギリスのビルの構造にも慣れておらず、そもそも全部ダイヤル100~なんやけど、どういうこと？全部一階なん？ってなってとりあえず何度も部屋間違えたよね。その度にそのフロアの会社の人たちに聞きまくってHeavenly Recordingsの前にやっと着いた。

社名がステッカーのみ、シンプ��で潔い。

ドアを叩いても呼び鈴鳴らしても中に人がいなそうだったので、書置きとCDを挟んでおこうとして、書置きを書いてると後ろのエレベーターからキャサリン登場！！！従業員はみんな近くの倉庫で作業していて、キャサリンはちょっと用事で事務所に来たらしい。すごいナイスタイミング。

諦めていたところだったので一同興奮！「メールもらってたわよね」と彼女が言ってくれたので、ここぞとばかりに自己紹介をして、メールを何度かしたこと、CDを聞いてもらいたいこと、このためにロンドンに来たこと（ちょっと盛ってる）、ノッティングヒルの住所に惑わされそうになったこと（移転前の住所だったことが判明）、などなどを伝えると、彼女もいろいろ話してくれた。最後にはにこやかにCDを受け取って「聴いて絶対連絡するわ」と言ってくれた。（外国人の”絶対”をあまり信じてはいけない。）

キャサリンと別れビルを出たあと、達成感で道路の向かいから建物を撮った。ここからイギリスのアーティストは巣立っていくのだな、CHAIはイギリスに来たらまずここに来るのだな…などといろいろ感慨深くなりながら、足の向く方に歩いて建物付近をうろうろしてしまった。

この後スーパーに入ったり出たり、意味もなく公園に入ったり、みんな興奮で行動が不自然。私も精神状態が普通じゃなかったのか、ふらりと入ったTescoのでかいラムチョップの写真を撮っていた。

このラムチョップに特に意味はない。

後日談として、暗黒怪獣はHeavenly Recordingsからは全然連絡はないが、Instagram経由でイーストロンドンのレコード会社から連絡が来ていた。こういうのって挑戦が直接的には実らなくても、行動を起こすことによって別角度から何かが起きるのだなぁということを学んだ。緊張もしたけどとてもいい経験だった。暗黒怪獣ありがとう。
