It was always melancholic when you had to return to Linkon. Sylus had become home for you, a safe space where you were free to be everything you couldn’t as a Hunter. You even found yourself missing Luke and Kieran’s mischief when you were gone. And you’d even grudgingly say you missed Mephisto, too.
Sitting at the edge of Sylus’s bed, you bent to pick up an article of clothing you’d dropped. Your bag was almost packed, and you were delaying the inevitable as much as you could. Sylus lounged on the bed behind you, wordlessly observing your progress.
All that was left, now, was to gather your toiletries from his bathroom. He’d tried to convince you, once, to have your own set of everything at the base, so that travel between Linkon and his home would be easier and more streamlined. At first you fought the idea, not wanting to impose or form those kinds of attachments- after all, you weren’t immune to heartbreak and had experienced it far more than you cared to admit. But as time went, you were warming to the idea of leaving traces of your presence in his spaces.
Lost in your thoughts, you didn’t realize Sylus shifted behind you. Your forward motion was hindered when his arms wrapped around your waist to pull you back against him, and his breath fanned across the back of your neck. Soft kisses, feather light, landed across the nape of your neck. The sensation made your breath hitch and goosebumps raised on your skin.
“Stay,” he pleaded, his voice pitched to a low growl.
“I-“ you begin, cut off when he placed a more insistent kiss behind your ear.
“One.” His lips found your pulse.
“More.” He moved to the slope of your shoulder, tugging aside your shirt so he could have access.
“Night.” His voice was barely a whisper against your skin as you let him pull you flush against his chest.
Excuses to reject him jumped to the tip of your tongue, but they were left unvoiced. You wanted nothing more than to stay, despite knowing you shouldn’t. It would probably be easy enough to make your excuses at work. But would one night be enough to satisfy your craving for him?
You turned off the worries and just sunk into him. His hands lazily roamed your body and his lips blazed a trail on your skin. You tilted your head to the side, giving him full access to your neck. Small bites mingled with the kisses and you knew your face was flushed from it.
“Silence isn’t a yes, Kitten,” he growled, halting any further exploration until you answered him.
You pulled away to look fully at him. Your gaze shifted from his eyes, to his lips, and down his beautifully sculpted body before returning to that intense crimson regard once more.
“It’s not a no, either,” you say before slanting your lips over his. You kicked your bag away, leaning into his embrace. A rumble of approval emanated from him as you guided his hands to take your shirt off, which was swiftly followed by your bra. Elegant fingers drifted over your newly exposed skin while he coaxed you open so he could tangle his tongue with yours.
He pulled you under him, his weight pressing you into the silk sheets beneath you- sheets that felt like a cool whisper on your body compared to the heat radiating from him. He slipped effortlessly between your thighs, his narrow waist slotting so perfectly into place that you were almost certain he was made for you.
Your hands slid down his chest, exploring the valleys of his abdomen and daring to venture to the hemline of the sweatpants he wore slung low on his hips. He growled in approval, pressing his hips against yours so that you could feel how you were affecting him. The length of him was already standing at attention, resting heavy against your pelvis while still constrained in the soft fabric.
And still, his tongue plundered yours in an unhurried kiss that worked to build more heat in your core. The night was young, yet, and you wanted to be nowhere else but right there in his embrace with your hands exploring him. You were already so intimately familiar with the planes of his body, but you didn’t let that stop you from memorizing every valley, every hill that his muscles created.
Leaning on one arm, he pulled back with only enough space so that he could tug at the waistband of your leggings in silent question. You lifted your hips and helped him slide the clothing down your legs until you lay bare beneath him. His breathing turned erratic as his gaze followed the trail his hand made up your curves.
“Beautiful,” he said, his voice a hoarse whisper as if he’d never seen you before, as if you were some profound work of art laid out for his eyes only. His head dipped and he left a hot path of kisses from neck to navel, rumbles of approval falling from him in between. And all you could do was watch as this beautiful creature all but worshipped your body, awestruck at how you could ever be so lucky to have this moment to add to your memories.
He trailed lower still, leaving you a squirming mess. A hiss escaped you when he bit down on the flesh of your inner thigh, a bite that turned into him latching onto the spot. Sucking and pulling, when he finally let go, a mark already began to form there. He flashed you that arrogant lopsided smirk of his, before burying his head between your thighs and using that damnably talented tongue to bring you to the brink. Your hands gripped into his silky hair, your own head thrown back as pleasure poured from you in a series of moans.
But before you could fall over the edge, he stopped. Your disgruntled complaint only made him chuckle as he crawled back over you. He moved slow, biting kisses trailing back up your body until he settled against you once more. His hips pressed into yours, his length somehow even harder than it’d been before he started.
“Sylus,” you sigh against his lips, folding your arms around the back of his neck.
“Mmh,” he growled. “I like it when you say my name like that, Kitten.”
You huffed a laugh, kissing him again. Your impatience finally won out and your hands found the waistband of his sweats, tugging at them in the same way he tugged at your. He chuckled and freed himself from them without much help from you, but you eagerly reached for him the moment he kicked the sweats away.
“Kitten,” he moaned, hips pushing his cock further into your grip. You tightened your hand on him and his breath hitched. His eyes were closed, brow drawn down as the muscle in his jaw feathered from the effort of maintaining what little control he had left. You loved watching him come undone, loved how he trembled over you just from such a simple touch. The sounds he made shot straight to your core and you ached for him, but you were enjoying this far too much to end it just yet.
So, he made the decision for you. With heavy breaths, he jerked his hips back and panted into your neck. He gripped your wrists, holding them on either side of your head so that you would stop touching him, so that he wouldn’t end up diving over the edge before he had a chance to take you.
“You still haven’t given me a yes, Kitten,” he groaned, pressing his hips into yours. His cock slid along your folds, but did not enter. “But I don’t know if I can hold back any longer.”
You hitched your legs around his waist, opening for him. The motion placed the head of his cock right against your slit, and you lifted your hips in an effort to make him slip inside. But still, he held back.
“Sylus,” you whimpered. “Please.”
“Please, what?” He growled, carrying his hips forward so just the tip of him edged into your slick folds.
“S-sy-“ was all you managed to say. Even just that small penetration was enough to turn your brain to mush. Your heart thundered in your ears, loud enough that you were sure he could hear it too. A gentle glide forward, and then a retraction, his cock dipped into you and then left you.
“Please, what, Kitten?”
“I need you inside me,” you breathed. A growled response, and then he obliged. He drove into you, far gentler than what you wanted at the moment. While you craved the primal devouring you knew he was capable of, you couldn't deny that the slow push and pull of his cock was intense in its own way. Each forward thrust ended with a hard grind of his hips on yours before retreating. It was slow and methodical, and he plunged his tongue into your mouth with the same tempo.
Your fingers threaded through his, using his hands like an anchor when you lifted your hips to meet his. His soft, sighing grunts mingled with your own whimpered moans. The feel of him inside you, the length and girth of him, drove you mad.
Enough so, that you were shocked when you felt the pleasure coiling low in your belly already. Your moans grew louder, needier, and you let your legs lift further so that he could take you deeper, harder.
“S-Sylus, fuck,” you whimpered, burying your face in his neck as pleasure steamrolled through you.
“Come, Kitten,” he groaned, even as your walls began to flutter around him. Your cries were barely muffled by his neck as you clung to him helplessly.
“Good girl,” he chuckled, pausing so that you could have a moment to come down from the high of the release. He kissed you unhurriedly, hands leaving yours to engulf your breasts. He teased your nipples into hardened peaks before he let his mouth drop to them to tantalize you further. Your back arched into him, the motion also working to clench your walls around his cock. A moan shuddered through him, a deep guttural sound that sent a thrill through you.
“I don’t know,” he said, kissing your jaw.
“If I will be able-“ he nipped your pulse.
“To hold back any longer.” The final words ended in a raspy whisper, where he dropped his forehead against your chest. The effort he expended to contain himself showed in the way he trembled in your embrace.
“Don’t, then. Let go, Sylus,” you tell him, pulling his face back to yours.
And so he let go of his inhibitions, his body colliding against yours desperately. All you could do is cling to him, whimpering and moaning into his ear while he pistoned in and out of you. His growls, grunts, groans rise to join your sounds, a perfect duet of passion. He had you rising and falling once more before you could even prepare for the climax, and his triumphant chuckle was cut off by a sharp moan when you bit into the slope of his neck.
“Sylus,” you breathed into his ear, your words trailing off into a breathless whisper. He huffed a heated breath, snapping his hips forward with a soft grunt.
“Fuck, Kitten, do that again,” he pleaded. The steady rhythm of his thrusts grew more erratic the closer he got to his climax.
“Sylus.” Your teeth raked his earlobe and he shuddered, a guttural moan escaping him. He set a punishing pace, slamming into you over and over as the final threads of his control snapped.
“F-fuck, I’m-“ All thoughts and words escaped him, lost as he was to the pleasure zipping up and down his spine.
“Come, Sylus,” you urge, locking your ankles at his back. A sharp inhale as he understood your intent with the motion, and then his climax was rolling over him before he could even think further.
He threw his head back, a guttural cry of pleasure filling the room as his body jerked and convulsed at the sheer intensity of the release. His cock twitched and pulsed as he flooded you, sending you into another spiraling orgasm right alongside him. You arched your back, pressing your body so impossibly close to him as he buried himself as deep as he could.
He collapsed atop you, planting lazy kisses all over your face. You couldn’t help the giggles that escaped you, and soon his chuckles filled the air too. He placed his forehead against yours as he tried to calm his breathing, his eyes boring into yours with a tenderness that was near painful. His hands cupped the back of your head, thumbs brushing your cheeks while his crimson gaze flickered over yours.
“I take it that means you’re going to stay?”
You playfully punched him in the shoulder and he let out a delighted laugh. He wrapped you in his arms, rolling off you so that you faced him on the bed. Exhaustion made you feel heavy, but you still missed the weight of him pressing you into the mattress. But, he didn’t give you time to rest before he was pulling you from the sheets and ushering you into a shower with him- where he proceeded to make a mess of you over and over again. It was nearing the early hours of the morning before he finally let you rest, nestled against his side with the thrum of his heartbeat beneath your ear.
You were right all along- one night was not nearly enough to satisfy your craving.

↳ neteyam x fem!omatikaya!reader
content warnings | smut ( minors dni ), somnophilia, oral ( f ), praise and some dirty talk, desperate neteyam, masturbation ( m ), characters are aged up !
word count: 1886
notes | pretty light on the actual prompt but here is my first submission for romancing pandora ! day one — somnophilia, turned out pretty fluffy but who doesn’t love some pussywhipped neteyam, enjoy friends
na'vi dictionary | syil — meer deer ; olo’eyktan — male clan leader ; yawnetu — loved one / lover / beloved person ; tewng — loincloth

You and Neteyam had been circling each other your entire lives, opposing forces drawn to one another despite all your innate differences. You admired each other from afar for years, skirting looks and kind greetings eventually evolving into shared dinners and stolen touches beneath the eclipse.
It was new and terrifying, having the eyes of the future Olo’eyktan so filled with adoration and lust and hope whenever they laid on you.
When Neteyam finally approached you officially to ask for you to be his—in body, in soul, in life—you were sure the earth beneath you shook with the force of your love. You were euphoric, giddy with the prospect that the man you desired so fully from the time you were children wanted you as well.
Some questioned his choice, though it was always clear to you how well you fit in each other’s lives. You weren’t a skilled hunter or forager, but you had a kind heart and strong mind, making you perfect for teaching the younglings of the clan. Neteyam was a born warrior, a boy made of steel bones and gunpowder. Where he had to be strong and immovable, you could be adaptable and kind, giving each other a perfect balance in life.
Being bonded to Neteyam was a lot of pressure, no doubt. Some expected you to be perfect, while others criticized you for being weak, a never-ending pull at your heart. It was all easy to brush off when Neteyam’s strong hands caressed your shoulders.
It helped too that your chemistry grew indescribably as your relationship progressed. The two of you were crazy about each other, hardly capable of containing the heat and excitement you felt in your newly blossoming relationship.
His hand would often find your thigh throughout shared meals, inevitably ending with the two of you sneaking past the trees and with his head between your legs. You would visit him on his breaks from teaching, stealing kisses and teasing touches away from the eyes of the younger warriors. You were often teased by your friends about how you could not keep your hands from your betrothed for more than a minute.
It was part of what made the time apart so unbearably aching.
You knew he had to leave. The syil, a normally elusive creature, would be gathering for mating season in valleys a few days' ride away. The hunting party had been planned for weeks now, with Neteyam at its head. It was a great stride in showing the clan his leadership skills, the longest hunt beyond the village he would lead on his own. The reap of the hunt would be great, sustaining the clan through many days and providing countless pelts for the cold season ahead.
It did little to stave the emptiness in your heart or between your legs.
It grew lonely at night, especially in the cold drizzles of the rainy season when the hearth fires fizzled. You tucked yourself beneath woven mats, huddling against the soft fibers for warmth as your body craved the solid weight of Neteyam behind you. After what felt like hours of restless turning and shivering, a lonely sleep crept over your mind.
A heated groan rouses you from your slumber.
Your fingers tighten along the edge of the woven mats, flung to the side to expose you to the night’s chill, cooling against your heated skin. Your hair sticks against the curve of your neck, wet with sweat. There was an insistent nudge between your legs and a weight at the bone of your hip, pressing you firmly into your sleeping mats.
Light of the eclipse shadows across your home, dimly illuminating Neteyam’s face where it lay nestled between your thighs. There was a flush high on his cheeks, pupils dilated to show only a thin ring of gold as he gazed upon you. A small moan rumbles across the sensitive flesh of your folds as he notices you blink awake.
“‘Teyam-what the, oh-” Sleep still reached at the edge of your consciousness, muddling your thoughts as an easy pleasure trickled through you. Your hips move before your mind catches up, rutting towards Neteyam’s wide tongue as you moan. You could hardly think clearly with Neteyam’s tongue on you when you were fully awake, now your brain felt completely like mush.
“I’m sorry, yawnetu, I could not wait. You looked so sweet-'' His voice was weak and breathy, and you vaguely noticed one hand snuck beneath his tewng to palm at his cock.
Fuck, he feels so good and so right between you, but when did he get here? When did this start? Great Mother, why did you like it? You could see him in your mind’s eye, tired and worn from the long hunting trek, overcome with such want for you that waking you barely crossed his mind. In your head, he was needy and wanting, thinking of nothing but how he couldn’t stand to be apart from the wet heat between your legs for another second. The thought made you indescribably hot, legs trembling at the voracious way he gripped your hips as he dipped his tongue down into your entrance.
Your tewng hangs half-off your left thigh, rumbled and glistening with either saliva or your juices. Neteyam’s lips are soft and wet, trailing lightly between your slick folds. You try to gather your thoughts between the jolts of pleasure, bringing one hand down to stroke across your lover’s head. “Y-you’re back early.”
“The rains were too heavy, left early.” His fingers massage the plush of your thighs, trailing back up to trace the line of glowing freckles across your stomach. You squirm at the feather-light touches, inching your hips back to his panting lips. “Haah-such a nice present waiting for me at home, yawnetu, all spread out and waiting. Did you miss me?”
“I-I did, I—shit ‘Teyam—missed your mouth, your cock, please.”
“I know, baby, I know, let me give it to you.” His mouth fell back on you, slow licks on the sensitive skin around your labia, skirting around your hole and dipping into the junction of your thigh before darting against your clit. He breathed heavily from his nose, inhaling your scent as your legs tightening around the sides of his head increased the throb in his cock.
Your moans increase as his wide shoulders bully your thighs further apart, tongue giving wide and strong strokes against your clit before sucking it between his shining lips. You can feel the heat growing and tightening at the base of your stomach, fluttering against the dip of his thumb into your cunt.
The slick sounds of your arousal weave in between the wet sounds of his moans, hot and yearning as they vibrate through your clit and into your bones. You can vaguely hear the sound of him working his own cock, imagining the way the tip peeks between his thick fingers to leak onto himself as he devours you. He always looked so pretty when he worked himself over, eyes blown and pleading.
The movements of his tongue quicken with the pace of your whining moans, finally moving to rub firm circles over your clit that have you keening into his hot touch. Your fingers card through his braids, using the grip to keep his mouth firm against your mound. As if he had any plans of moving.
“That’s-fuck-feels good, baby, but-want your cock,” You mewl, fingers tightening around the back of his head. Your voice hitches with every labored breath, pussy clenching on emptiness with every beat of your racing heart and it’s been so long, your body craves for him.
“Just wait, yawnetu, soon. I-I need to taste you.” He mumbles the promise into your folds, gasping and panting into you with each tug at his cock. His face is near rutting into you, nose bumping at the top of your pussy and inhaling deep breaths of your sweat and slick. “Thought of it the w-whole time, just like this. Let me.”
The deep breathiness of his voice has arousal shooting through you. You know neither of you will probably be awake long enough to see through on that promise, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s enough to have him here, now, delighting himself so fully with eating at you that it has him desperate and breathless. His moans rumble through you, whispering praises and encouragements into the wetness of your core as he drives you closer and closer to the edge.
“Fuck, Neteyam.” You have one hand on the back of his head, the other gripped tightly into the woven mats as pleasure begins to crest over you. “I-I’m gonna-”
“Yeah? Come on, yawnetu.” You swear you see a devilish grin at the corner of his lips before your eyes clench shut in pleasure.
Your orgasm rolls through you with a gasping breath, legs tightening around Neteyam’s shoulders as pleasure runs wet and hot from deep in your stomach to every edge of your body. Neteyam groans against you when you tighten under him, tongue swirling softly against your clit until you’re twitching against him, voice heavy with pants of his name and begging him to just get over here already.
Neteyam’s hand is still gripping at the meat of your hip when you open your eyes, now merely inches from your face as he holds himself above you. His hand moves fast and tight on his hard cock, eyes hooded in pleasure.
“Fuck, you’re so pretty-haah-got me so close, baby.”
His deep blue skin is shining under the eclipse with perspiration and your slick, the little freckles over his cheeks and shoulders glimmering lightly. You let your eyes sleepily rove over his wide shoulders and muscled chest, taking in every inch of how fucking good he looks above you.
Your eyes are glassy with pleasure as you gaze up at him with wet lashes, each brush of him against you sending you twitching in sensitivity. “I want it on me, please Neteyam.”
His eyes are unfocused as he comes apart above you, ears twitching and mouth falling open in wet pants. He burrows his head into the crook of your neck as he gets close, licking feverishly at the junction of your neck, the wet head of his cock bumping against your belly.
You reach behind his head again, bringing his forehead to rest against yours, eyes drawn on his face as he groans with each stroke. Your fingers brush along his largest braid close to the skull before rubbing your thumb firmly against the base. His eyes roll slightly as he gasps into your mouth, hips spasming unevenly as his orgasm wracks through him. His hand tightens on your hip, tip of his cock rubbing against you as he empties himself onto you.
The heat in you is slow and lazy, something that will creep into your dreams to be dealt with in the morning. Your bones feel heavy with Neteyam’s heat cuddling up next to you, mind already fuzzy with edges of sleep.
Neteyam’s face is lax in pleasure, nuzzling into the side of your body and pulling you taut to him. You can already hear his breathing evening out with the beginnings of sleep as he mumbles into your hair. “Missed you, yawnetu.”
“Welcome home, ‘Teyam.”

Non-curse AU! Choso is a big ol' nerd
A/N: As a big ol' nerd myself I feel passionately about this, so I have way too many thoughts repost bc it wasn't showing in the tag for some reason
Below the cut because I'm a yapper!
♠ Definitely the type to meet his S/O through discord because I think non-curse Choso is much shyer than regular Choso
❥ He wouldn’t be an admin. He’d be the quiet type that’s always there reacting to posts but rarely talks. Has the sickest emotes tho
❥ Prefers smaller discord communities, mostly video game servers
❥ I think he'd like the vaporwave aesthetic and all the RBG setups. Keeps his computer area neat and tidy
❥ Choso fucking loves video games. He'll buy those $300 special edition pre-orders and get the cool figures
❥ HUGE Soulsborne fan. His favorite is Bloodborne (on the nose but I couldn't resist). Also really loves Monster Hunter. Cares a lot about the monster's details, like their eating habits. I think his fave would either be Odogaron, Nargacuga or Zinogre.
❥ Picks the edgiest weapons lmfao. Definitely a longsword user in Monster Hunter. Went blood build in Elden Ring
❥ *Sigh* he does consult reddit for his builds and is a min-maxer. I'm afraid Choso is a reddit user but in a 'I need a thorough understanding of this' kind of way
❥ Function over fashion: he dgaf if that helmet is as ugly as sin, it gives him +2 endurance and he's gonna wear it
❥ Lets you create his character & name them & everything.
❥ If you can't be present for the character creation portion, he'll make his character you! Definitely made you his dream guardian in Baldur's Gate 3 (which in the early access was called the Dream Lover, which is even cuter)
❥ Not pretentious at all about what is/isn't gaming, and plays all sorts of genres
❥ LOVES NINTENDO GAMES. Mario has a special place in his heart. DEFINITELY mains Shy Guy in Mario Kart
❥ Will literally cry and die if you play video games with him. You don't have to be good because he'll happily teach you. Just watching him play and asking about the details will make his day
❥ Definitely would do those cute Animal Crossing museum dates. Loves the relaxing, chill music so much. Despite his min-maxer approach to other games, he's absolutely not a time traveler in Animal Crossing. He's of the mindset that it ruins one of the core features of the game
❥ Stardew Valley? Stardew Valley. Honestly, I can't decide who he romanced first. My heart is telling me Leah, but chat pls advise
❥ Speaking of chat, you just know he's a fan of let's players. Always watching a YouTuber or Twitch Streamer. He's a Markiplier fan. You know it, just accept it
❥ Tbh that's a cute thought: Choso being a fan of the reader that's a small twitch streamer. Should that be a thing?
❥ Really good at singleplayer games. AWFUL at pvp
❥ He'll play something like Fortnite or Overwatch for Yuji, but needs to be hard carried because he only plays when someone asks him to. He can't stand how toxic those communities are, and doesn't want to socialize with strangers just to play a game
❥ He gets HEATED SO EASILY when people are toxic, especially if it's directed at Yuji or someone else he cares about. Definitely the type to step in and check other ppl when they're being toxic. Like those clips where it's a woman in a lobby and the dudes all start being sexist. Choso will not let that shit fly!
❥ Teabag him if you want to see him lose his shit
❥ On the note of Overwatch: the only character he can and will play is Mercy, and he just pockets Yuuji the whole time. Yuji has to beg him to heal/boost their teammates
#these may or may not be incorporated in the mini fic im working on for him#nerd!choso i see you and i understand you#I have so many thoughts about the characters in jjk playing video games#especially overwatch bc i unforunately played it for years#headcanons ☽#dreams ☽#dreams of choso ☁︎#choso headcanons#choso x reader#choso x you#jjk headcanons#sweet dreams ☽

The Way You Taste {Eustass Kid X Fem! Reader}
Finally you meet each other again. After months of each of you leading your own crews, one a small island you both run into each other. And so, when you two decide to have a joined party in remembrance of past combined battles. You two just happen to be on a cliff in the woods, away from the party celebrating your reunion by yourself.
18+ content
teasing, worshipping, oral (f receiving), penetration, riding, temperature (metal = cold), outside sex (woods)
The night was dark, the stars seemed to have disappeared, just like the moon, the waves crashed into the rocky shore, the wind cold on your skin and the grass wet beneath you. You shivered, an ice-cold and bulky hand running up your body, clothing already long discarded on the grass. His golden gaze piercing your soul as he stared at you, he was lowered to the ground, his body just inches above yours as he felt you shiver and looked towards your stomach, the goosebumps rising. His hair wasn't all done up anymore, falling down his face, his clothing discarded as well long ago. He had just been admiring you, worshipping you, on this cliff in the woods, faint noises of the party on your ships reaching you, but going unnoticed, both of you too enraptured with each other.
His muscles flexed a little, eyes flickering up at you and then back to following his cold metal hand as it reached your breast, tracing along the outline before slowly running one of the icy fingers over it. You whimpered at the touch, and his eyes flicked onto your face. Kid lowered his head, giving your stomach a small kiss as he let his prosthetic fill his grip with your soft breast. Another whine escapes your throat, as you arch into him. The brute over you hums, a deep, low, delicious sound that made you shiver. Or was that the cool night air? His face still rests lightly against your stomach, his prosthetic lightly kneading you soft flesh, before the cool metal retracted. You nudged him with your leg, not wanting him to stop. He felt so hot, skin burning like the sun on a summer island, it spread through you but was quickly replaced by a chill again, the wet grass blades tickling your skin, the uneven earthy ground digging into your back.
You didn't mind, for him you wouldn't mind bathing in lava, if it meant you could see his gorgeous face and body. His eyes pierced yours, intense eye contact that made you nearly shy away, but god, why did it have to be this hot? His hair looked so good framing his face, his googles giving them free, and he looked like a god. That hungry gaze, nearly devouring you, nearly like a hunter ready to jump onto its prey, and it made you shiver again, this time, not from the cool air or his cold metallic hand. His shoulders were broad as he held himself up with his good hand. Now slowly shifting onto his right arm, the muscles playing above you. The scars adorning his body, the nasty ones from his face all the way to his abs and to where metal met skin. The two slashes on his good arm, if he would let you, you'd kiss all over him, but he wouldn't let you, too afraid he'd become too soft on you, as if he wasn't already. His hand touched you, heat spreading through your veins like a fire spreading through a forest, and all you could think of was him. Ethereal and eternal, like an angel. A devious and dangerous angel.
And you craved more. Your hand reached out, touching right above his heart and feeling the faint thumping underneath his skin, and it seemed to beat impossibly fast, but yours was beating just as much, so you paid it no mind. Slowly sliding it over the edges of muscles nearly visible, little hills and valleys on his skin, lower. His hand wrapped around yours, bringing it back up before it could even touch his belly button. He hummed against your hand, as he kissed your knuckles. All tame and pretty, handsome and infatuated. There was nothing but adoration and lust in his gaze as he slowly, oh so slowly traced kisses down your body. An eternity he spent kissing each inch of your neck and shoulders, another he spent worshipping your chest. Your arms smeared with red lipstick, your hand with the pretty black nail polish he wore as well dug into his hair, tugging him down, but he held fast. Not even wavering in his stance, not movable for even an inch.
His lips on your stomach, your thighs, his eyes closed savoring you like he would only have you this once. Maybe it would be the last time. Maybe it wouldn't. He looked so pretty, and you felt worshipped like a goddess being adored by a follower, by a fellow god, a servant worshipped by its god of lust, of desire. His red hair was such a pretty shade, oh how you wished to keep him forever. It nearly felt like forever for his lips to finally touch you where you wanted him most. First soft kisses all around your lips, then even small soft kisses on your clit, before his tongue finally darted out, tasting your fluids already leaking out of you, teasing you just right. You held your breath, your heart beating like you were running for your life, maybe, in a sense, you were. Running to give Kid everything he desired, even if it was your life. Running to take from him everything he was willing to offer, running to take his heart and swallow it, cherish it. He hummed and moaned, the cool night air nearly forgotten with how hot you two were running.
Everything about him was perfect, his tongue just as much. He knew you like he knew his ship, every quirk and every scar and everything that made you feel good. He licked at you, sucked your clit, you could even hear him audibly drink, heard him swallow in the mostly quiet night. Then, his tongue finally penetrated you, the skilled muscle moving expectedly inside of you, his wet lips smearing their red lipstick all over you. Your hands grasped at his hair, that wonderful red clouding your vision. He groaned, his eyes opening, staring at you. That golden hue haunting you in your dreams, That near predatory gaze fixed on you like you were all he ever craved. Even if it wouldn't be true, right now, on nights like these, you don't think you would find it in yourself to care. Not with the way he worshipped you, not with the way he loved you. His nose rubbing against your clit, his one hand holding, bruising your hip, the cold metal one resting on your stomach, like an assurance, he got you. And you melted into his touch, mewling and moaning like you were all alone in the world, it definitely felt like you were. The wetness of the grass forgotten, the night sky sparkling with stars upon stars, looking down at you from above, but they barely registered, too focused on the man between your legs, thighs squeezing his head just the way he loved it.
Curses left your throat, choked out words, incoherent moans, needy whimpers. He swallowed everything eagerly, every syllable leaving you, every single tiny sound, how it riled him up even more, his hips pushing harshly against the floor, rubbing them back and forth shallowly, some small relief for the desire he felt, eating you out like it was his favourite meal. He pushed you higher, closer to your climax, his hand slowly, teasingly tracing along your folds, threatening to push in alongside his tongue, pushing in only the tiniest amount before he pulled it back out. His painted nail shining in your fluid, not quite dripping but still slowly cascading down his finger, before you could feel the edge of his trimmed nail pressing perfectly onto your clit, before he shifted to use his finger bed, slowly circling it, constant pressure pushing you as far as he wanted you to, seeing you fall apart, it was the true meaning of intoxication, he was addicted and you were the drug. Pushing you past the edge. With a wail of his name, legs clenching impossibly tight around his face, his cheeks squished together, the flesh of your thighs moulding around his face.
He moaned into your warm cunt as he sucked and licked all the juices from it, before sliding back up to you, giving you a sloppy kiss, all teeth clashing against teeth and tongue pushing as far into your mouth as possible, lipstick smearing against lipstick, black mixing with red smears, his hands grabbing at everything they can, waist, hips breasts. The desperate way such a harsh contrast to the worshipping you had just witnessed, nothing unusual of course, but still something that made your heart flutter. Softly placing a hand on his shoulder, you pushed him away and like warm butter, he followed without hesitation, he didn't doubt you for a second as you pushed him to his knees, then further back until he was the one laying down. You climbed on top, one leg on each side before grabbing his dick and guiding him to slip in, all throaty moans as he finally felt the warm, wet enclosure of your pussy.
He grabbed at your hips, a bruising hold, deliciously painful, even if he didn't guide you, no, not yet. You leaned forward, hands grabbing onto his muscles, gliding, scratching, groping. Then you moved, and that was when he started to help you. He moaned out curses, praises, his pupils blown wide, as he watched your body, watched the way your tits moved, your thighs, the plush fat on your thighs and belly and arms. Watched your face, as you lost yourself in the same pleasure he felt. He was otherworldly to you, and you were godly to him. It was mutual. It was perfect, it was honest and pretty and god be damned, it was hot. You haven't had him in months, and now that you finally had him again for a single night, you just wanted it to last forever. Moans and grunts, breathy whimpers filled the deep night, stars twinkling above you, yet he couldn't care less. It was all you, only you to him, and to you, there was only him. The cool air made you tremble, or was it your approaching high? His cold hand stayed on your hip, as his other reached up and first firmly squeezed your breast, before moving to your neck and pulling you down into feverish kisses. You both were a mess. A pretty mess and perfect, and as you moaned his name, you felt him twitch and tremble for a moment, before feeling how his hot semen seeped out of him, into you. But you weren't done, and he would be damned to not let you, so continuing to guide you with his hand, his flesh one slipped down your body, slowly rubbing at your clit with so much pressure it was nearly hurting, but the joint pleasure plus the words he started to whisper between kisses were so tempting, you shuddered and shivered, cumming on his cock with another moan of his name.
Kid held you close, letting you rest and catch your breath, before you two would eventually get dressed and return to your respective ships. It was only for tonight until fate would lead you to each other again, but yet, seeing him leave with the fresh memory of yesterday night, it felt sad. You had chosen your path. So had he, being rivals for the biggest treasure in the entire world, there was no way you would work together, and while you solemnly swore you'd find it yourself, you didn't think you'd mind if he found it first. Of course, you knew what this feeling was, but you were not yet ready to admit it, not when you knew where he was heading off to. Not when you knew he would probably die. If he did. Maybe one day, you could be wherever you go with him, together for however long you were fated to stay.

the family business
chapter 1 of stardewnatural | read it on ao3 stardew valley/supernatural crossover sebastian/sunny (original character) nobody really has a car in pelican town. so it's a little strange when a '67 chevrolet impala appears parked at the bus stop. soon, farmer sunny meets two monster hunters sent on a mission to figure out the (more than the usually) weird things happening in this quaint town. wc: 2.2k tags: light violence, banter, some innuendo, sam and dean being sam and dean
friday, day 5 of fall
nobody really has a car in pelican town. at least that’s what sunny has thought until she walks past one on her daily walk into town.
the day starts like any other fall day until now. the very first friday of the season always begins with groaning while waking up at six and having a quick breakfast with her coffee, feeding the cats, giving them some attention before heading out to pick up any crops that were ready, emptying the kegs and grabbing everything she needed for the usual trip into the town square when…
there is a menacing, old black car that stays parked next to the broken-down bus just outside the tunnel leading to the desert. being somewhat late in her daily schedule, sunny doesn't stop to take a closer look, but faint voices can be heard as she keeps walking, stepping on crinkly leaves littering the path. “i’m telling you it's just in your head.”
“and i'm telling you there was a little… i don't know what it was but it was in the bush!”
“you need coffee.”
“i'm telling you there's something sketchy going on, sammy.”
certain she will find the owners of these voices later in town, probably in the saloon, she kewps walking, keeping herself as close as she can to her planned out schedule. but the oddity of unknown people sticks in her head.
“sorry, sorry, i got caught up with the canning,” sunny immediately starts explaining as she walks into pierre's store, balancing a big basket full of items on her hip, “here's the bok choy you wanted.”
she passes the ripe vegetable to the bespectacled shopkeeper in exchange for 120 gold that she pockets before quickly waving and disappearing through the door.
“woah, easy there, farmer.” a surprised voice snaps her out of focus as she nearly collides with the body in front of her. she apologetically looks up and fixes the soft knitted beanie on her head.
“sorry, doc, in a rush this morning.”
looking at the watch on her left wrist, she notices the time. 9:10. shit, she was already supposed to be on her way up to the mountains.
“hey, doc, shouldn't you already be at the clinic?”
the town doctor stutteres, brushing his hair out of the way and fixing his brown framed glasses before rushing off into the store, muttering something about running out of coffee grounds.
sunny shrugs, fixes the basket on her arm, and starts towards the old community center, bracing herself for another collision with the world of supernatural beings living alongside them here in pelican town.
“hey did you see the car?”
a voice greets her at the door to the community center, the voice of, as of only a few days ago, her boyfriend, sebastian. his dark hair glints purple in the rare fall sun, and he wears a sweet smile – it’s nice seeing him finally in his element after so much summer heat. he approaches and pulls her into a hug, ignoring the fact that she’s awkwardly balancing a nearly full basket of stuff from the farm and the local mines. in fact, there is something in there for him as well.
“you saw it too?”
sunny responds as he slides his hand in hers, walking back to the town square with her since he knows her schedule for today.
“sam heard it when he… anyway he called me all excited and yappy, wouldn’t shut up about it ‘cause he thought i’d wanna check it out. i mean, he was right.”
“looks cool, though, doesn't it?”
“what does?”
“the car, silly.”
“oh hell yeah, it's a beaut.”
she raises an eyebrow, but quickly shakes her head at his comment. of course he'd call a car beautiful, he’s somewhat obsessed with cool cars and motorbikes, having the latter himself. she remembers all the midnight rides on that motorcycle of his, the way he would speed up just to have her grip onto his waist tighter, the wind in their hair, the view when they would park and…
“you see who drove it?” his voice snaps her out of her head.
“huh? oh, the car?”
“earth to sunny, you awake?”
sebastian reaches out to poke her on the cheek, smirking as he does so. by the pep in his step it’s obvious that he’s getting genuinely excited to see the car, it iss certainly not an everyday occurrence to have new people and a new vehicle in town.
sunny murmurs something about being frazzled today, probably from having a late night planning for the stardew valley fair.
they make their way to the bus stop, murmuring good morning to a few people in passing.
“hey sunny, you got any pumpkins going?” abigail's voice carries through the window of her bedroom. sunny looks up to see her smiling face peeking through.
“oh, i've got a bunch planted for you!”
abby blows her a kiss and disappeared into her room again, leaving the pair to keep walking past the store, past the clinic (still open despite their only doctor being outside in the park), and to the bus stop where the broken down bus has been sitting unmoving for years.
sunny can almost feel the excitement radiate from him, he squeezes her hand a little more as they approach the car, half-hidden by the shadow of the tunnel.
“yoba, look at that design…”
his voice is full of awe, he keeps going towards the car, offhandedly mentioning facts about the build of the car, about the sleek design, about the engine it must have…
and she can't keep my eyes off him. his eyes shine with fascination, with wonder at this machine in front of them. where she sees a cool vehicle, he sees the ingenuity, the remarkable angles.
“...really wanna hear it”
she snaps out of the admiration to his words, realizing she's been clutching the basket a little tighter. barely has she had time to smile at him when an angry voice bellows from behind.
“hey! get away from the car!”both of them quickly step back, sebastian with his hands already up in a gesture of surrender. two men approach, one with short hair and a face full of rage, the other taller, long haired, and with a look of worry.
“we’re…” she pulls sebastian back a little, keeping him closer to her in case they go for him because he is closer to the car “so sorry, we didn’t touch it or anything we just… looked, it’s rare to…” she snaps her mouth shut and tilts her head to the side as the shorter, angrier man approaches the car as one would a lover, caressing it while checking for any dents or whatever else they could’ve done to it in the short time they’ve been near. sunny could’ve sworn he called it baby.
“forgive my brother, he’s very…” the taller man looks at the brother in question and then back at them, clearly noticing their questioning expressions “ besotted with the car.”
sebastian raises an eyebrow at him and lookes at the man checking the car, letting out a little huh as if to say yeah no shit.
there is a weird pause, seb and sunny awkwardly observing the car caressing, and what seems to be loving whispering, while the taller brother’s eyes flit between his, clearly embarrassing, brother and them two.
“i’m sam. that’s my brother dean.” he takes a long step towards them, seriously, how tall is this guy , and holds out his hand. sebastian shakes it immediately, looking up at sam , who is nothing like their sam.
“sebastian. this is my girlfriend , sunny.” as she shifts the basket to shake sam’s hand, she notices sebastian’s hand suddenly find its usual place on her waist, tugging a little closer to him. she smirks at his action before looking towards the newcomer.
“sunny. sorry if this is rude but…” she eyes the other brother, dean, who finally stops touching up his precious car to join his brother in introducing himself and shaking hands, “what are you doing here exactly? the fair isn’t until the 16th.”
“the fair?” those are the first somewhat polite words directed at them by dean. he fixes his jacket and looks the pair over, as if estimating whether or not they’re from this earth or not. his eyes land on the basket in sunny’s hands, no doubt wondering why the hell she is carrying so much assorted stuff with her.
“the stardew valley fair?” sebastian sounds surprised that someone would venture into pelican town without the intention to attend one of the festivals. in his mind, there has been no other reason to be here… well, at least not until he and sunny got closer.
“sure, the fair.” the taller man sounds unconvinced, but the look in his eyes as he turns to his brother tells everyone involved to just drop it.
“we’re hunters,” dean explains, “you know, anything out of the ordinary, anything… strange, we hunt it and save people. it’s kind of a family business.”
strange and out of the ordinary. the family business . that description just about covers the entirety of pelican town. from the forest spirits to the town wizard living on the outskirts of the town. and sunny knows a thing or two about keeping a family business alive, not that anyone in said family can actually properly appreciate it.
“like slime hunters?” she blurts out, causing sebastian to snort in laughter. sam and dean look at each other in confusion and maybe a little offense.
“sl- slime hunters?” dean raises an eyebrow, looking like he is about to explain how he is more dangerous and serious than anything called a slime hunter could ever be. clearly he hasn’t encountered a slime before.
“yeah, the slimes in the mines?” she continues, ignoring the fact that sebastian tugs on her sleeve a little, leaning closer in warning.
“uh, sunny? i don’t think they know about the slimes…”
the silence is heavy. there’s heat climbing up into her cheeks, making her hear heart beats in her head. oh, she’s blabbed too much again. she turns her head to sebastian, but he just slides his hand into hers now, drawing little hearts with his thumb over her knuckles.
“okay so other than… slimes … did you two maybe notice something weird going on around here?” sam questions, earning a sigh from sunny and a light chuckle from sebastian.
“look, the weirdest thing in this town right now is you two.” unlike sunny’s awful overthinking about whether something she said would be taken as rude or condescending, sebastian has no filter. if he speaks to people in the first place, he doesn’t give a fuck about keeping them placated. “we don’t get many people just walking in and out unless it’s for festivals, and certainly not with awesome cars like that one.” he nods towards the black car, making both brothers follow his gaze as if to make sure it’s their car he was talking about.
sunny shifts the basket again as she clears her throat.
“look, if you hunt… weird things, maybe you could talk to marlon up at the adventurer’s guild or to rasmodius.”
“asmodeus?” dean looks alarmed at the mention of the wizard, but his misunderstanding of the name earns him a smack on the back of his head by sam.
“she said rasmodius, dean.” sam rolls his eyes briefly before continuing, “that’s the wizard, right? we were actually sent by a… friend of his. where could we find him?”
sebastian quickly explains how to get to the wizard’s tower, wondering how the hell they know this wizard’s friend.
sam and dean make their way towards the cindersap forest, throwing one last glance at the car as sebastian and sunny stand at a respectful distance from it, as if warned not to try anything funny.
“that was… weird, right? it’s not just me?” sunny’s question makes sebastian chuckle.
“as much as i’d love to say it was just you being weird, i have to admit they were…” he finishes the sentence simply by shaking his head a little.
in retaliation for his cheekiness she lifts their intertwined hands and bites his knuckles gently, making him nudge her with his shoulder.
“keep nudging me and i’m not giving you your gift.”
“gift?” he leans in and kisses her temple, melting her with his spontaneous signs of affection. “you’re gift enough for me.”
she looks up and saw that self-satisfied grin on his face he wears whenever he thinks he said something incredibly funny. after the initial reaction of just rolling her eyes, sunny pulls out a somewhat chipped piece of obsidian from the basket. seeing his eyes widen in excitement makes all the bruises and scratches from going into the mines worth it.
“wait, seriously? is that obsidian? oh man, you know it’s exactly what i’ve been looking for! i’m gonna see if i can shape it into a dagger!” with a smile he takes it from her hand wrapped into a cloth and puts it into his jean pocket.
the sweet gift earns her another kiss on the forehead and one directly on the lips, the one she never wants to pull away from.

I'd very much like to know more about Eren, Dawne, Cadmine, and Zhe. Allusions? Team dynamics? How they became a team? Etc.
Eren sounds like Nora backwards - Aron - and Jotunn, Eren's last name, is the name of the Frost Giants in norse mythology - Valkyrie vs Frost Giant - Eren's semblance is a reflection of the Frost and Nora's semblance, with a hint of backstory meaning - She suck the heat out, causing everyone else to be cold, and uses the heat to empower herself.
Her outift and Coloration - modest, fancy, muted cool tones - is meant to oppose Nora - warm, vibrant, pink and orange, and messy.
~~~~~
Dawne rhymes with jaune, Jaune is yellow and Sunny, while Dawne is darker. Like the Dawne.
Jaune is French, Angeles (Dawne's last name) is Spanish, meaning Angel, there's Arc-Angel kinda deal.
His weapon is a reflection of Jaunes- no shield, but it's also a gun.
He has no specific allusion, just meant to mirror jaune.
Jaune's a Golden Boy, Dawne's a Bad Boy.
~~~~~
Cadmine's name come from Cadmean, Ittoras from "Defeat of the State" in Greek - Pyrrha Nikos mean "Pyrrhic Victory Of the People" - A Cadmean and a Pyrrhic Victory are synonymous, but to be opposing, Cadmine's last name means defeat - so a Cadmine Defeat might be something like a Sacrifice or a feint, letting something bad happens to get ahead, rather than forcing something good to happen at far too much of a cost.
Cadmine is colorful, vibrant, cobalts and neons - bright, but cool colors - and personality wise she's something of a Valley Girl.
Pyrrha is soft spoken, Cadmine is loud, Pyrrha is warm autumnal colors, Cadmine is vibrant spring colors, Pyrrha is Greek, Cadmine is roman.
Cadmine is the Brazilian Miku to Pyrrha's normal Miku. She's meant to have a Gyaru/Ganguro sort of vibe - a delinquent, loudmouthed, frivolous girl. She makes crude and sexual gestures, she's hot and she flaunts it. She's just about everything Pyrrha isn't.
Cadmine is Wild. Free. She's allowed to be a dumbass, to do the wrong thing - Pyrrha's opposite.
They're each other's respite from their reputations.
~~~~~
Caiji Zhe means Gatherer. Lie Ren means Hunter. Zhe is described as having blonde hair, and scruffy clothes - Caiji is meant to be representative of a Chinese Delinquent.
He's loud and talks fast, he's only as big as Ren but takes up a lot more space. His semblance is also meant to be opposite of Ren's - Tranquility hushes emotions in a very, very small area, personal to Ren, while Embrittle is very Physical, and targeted at someone else.
Dragon Hunters: GLACIER OF MADNESS
(PART 1)
Main characters & setting by: © Arthur Qwak, Valérie Hadida, Guillaume Ivernel © Futurikon Screenplay and artwork: Fideliada
Part1--Part2--Part3--Part4--Part5--Part6--Part7--Part8--Part9(end)
(The sound of a raging night rainstorm)
(The creak of an art brush, barely audible over the rustle of water in the leaves.)
(Gwizdo) I've got the whole house on fire… Does anyone care about my immunity here?! By the way, no one has yet concocted a cold vaccine!
(Gwizdo) I wish my book lessons would be useful to her: for sure, she should read it from the bridge!
(Pitiful creaking of the front door, which has somehow obeyed)
(Lian-Chu) Zoria was in such a hurry that she didn't even take her favorite scarf… (Gwizdo's voice from the doorway) That's it, I've finished the sign that says "Young and beautiful unmarried dragon hunters are strictly required to enter"... the paint is moisture-resistant! I hope you'll let me sleep now?!
(Gwizdo's soft footsteps go up the stairs, barefooted.)
(Jeanneline) This is terrible! What kept her from sitting with us a little longer? (Gwizdo's voice from the second floor) Your fantasies about your step-grandkids: you know, a dragon-slaying young lady who isn't vaccinated against cholera can easily go crazy, even in a loving family. (Jeanneline) Even though my little Zoe is adopted, you can't fool a mother's heart, we won't be waiting for her like this!
(Muddy puddles squelch underfoot)
(Lian-Chu) Jeanneline is right: we can't go with the flow, we have to act!
(The grumble of a morning thunderstorm)
(Hector overcomes drowsiness and disgust) Urrr! SQUELCH! SNORT! (The plaintive wheeze of Gwizdo) SERIOUSLY?! Buddy, you expect to find her on foot in such darkness and all alone?! Brrr, you'll get wet again!
(The sound of rain and the roar of plasma clots among the clouds)
(Lian-Chu) Do you remember any hints about where Zoria wanted to go? Did she say anything to you in your literacy class while she was quarantined? We can't let her repeat the fate of her real parents...
(Sounds of a heavy rainstorm and Hector's half-asleep efforts)
(Gwizdo) What makes you think she likes to share secrets with me? Well, yes, in the heat, she complained that she was tired of fan letters and wanted to see the polar lands. But we're done with Neglur in the North...
(Thunderclaps)
(Gwizdo) Boy, oh boy! THE SOUTH POLE! IT'S HALF A WEEK AWAY!
(It's been a little less than the promised half of the week - the one who doesn't fuss has more time!)
(Gwizdo) The stop didn't disappoint. Now we know: the junk dealer in the repair booth complains that a girl in a coat had ruined him for canvas, bath cloths and some kind of rusty pedal-operated screw. We've just flew thousands of miles from women's tears, but we already foresee new ones…
(Finally, everyone allowed the big hostess to cry her big heart out)
(Jeanneline) My brave and silly babygirl, it's ALL MY FAULT! How could I forget that your heart still hasn't healed after the pirate ship?! And now the boys have disappeared after you!
(Gwizdo) Hmm, I was lucky to have saved up something by delivering Jeanneline's concoction to the palaces. At least Noble Kayo's cholera vaccine wasn't sold out because of our hunger strike.
(Lian-Chu) The crowns are green: it looks like that valley is warming up from inside of the mount! Shall we go down?"
(Gwizdo) It's useless. I see that the warm parts of the pole don't attract our "princess Solarhead".
(Gwizdo) You know, I'd like to change the archipelago. These mountains stress me out!
(Dense multi-year snow crunches pleasantly at every step)
(Lian-Chu) Pleasant frosty air. Zoria didn't like to sunbathe, so I chose a cool time every morning when I taught her to float. Hey, judging by the paintings from that tavern at the South Pole, there are auroras, such a dancing light in the night sky... I'd like to see it!
(Gwizdo) Well, well! It's in our best interests to not test the immune system! Let this impudent girl continue to wander, warming herself and eating in her own way, until we provide her with an anti-cholera vaccine and wrap her in a carpet to deliver her back to her mom for drinking borback goulash! I won't let my plans plans to open a private school to be ruined because of someone's stupidity!
(Snowdrifts wheezing under Lian-Chu's nimble feet)
(Lian-Chu's excited cry) Great idea, Gwizdo!
(Lian-Chu) We can't stay here for long, so put your telescope away AND RUN FOR COVER!!!
(Gwizdo) Stop breaking your voice, Lian-Chu, this is an uninhabited flying iceberg!
(Gwizdo, instantly falling into a stupor from what he saw) Well then, what is... THIS?
(Gwizdo) Trepangs in rice breading! Lactating lizards! We just should...
(Artificial blizzard rings)
(Lian-Chu) Follow me! (Gwizdo) RUN FOR YOUR LIIIIIVES!!! (Hector) Achacha-Chu!!!
(Gwizdo wheezing through the blizzard) Kha-kha!.. We need to sit down lower, otherwise we'll freeze up!.. (Lian-Chu, weakly shouting over the blizzard) I'll try it now!
(Screams of terror and the sound of bodies hitting — well, trained ones! — on the rocks of the long ice tunnel...)
(Gwizdo) WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE THE ROPE?!!
(Three splashes on the entire cavity of the stone-ice cliff as a result of a rapid one-and-a-half-minute ride down the stone-ice hill)
(Gwizdo didn't finish speaking at the time of the dive) OH DEALLL!..
(Hysterical clapping of hands on water)
(Gwizdo, who didn't have time to spit) Chu, save me, there's warm water everywhere!!!
TO BE CONTINUED...
Terrible Beasts
Synopsis: After over a decade of drought and famine, the discovery of a food rich grotto has things looking up for Salmo's band.
Word Count: 1807
Content Warning: Mentions of past and future cannibalism. Death. Undeath. Broken bones. Whump. Lady Whumpee. Environment? Whump. Impalement. Immortal Whumpee. Death by trampling.
Notes: Wanted to try writing whump in a prehistoric setting. This will likely be the start of a series following my oc: Salmo. Ideas are welcome! Enjoy!
Salmo wasn’t wholly certain where the day went wrong. It had started well enough. Or, at least, as well as it could during a drought.
The morning, like every morning for the past dozen seasons, was hot and dry, which meant she and the rest of her band had to get moving early. She remembered when she was young, back when the grass was green and the fruits in the trees were juicy and large, how her mother and her would split up from the rest of the band and spend the whole day blissfully in the shade. Food was so plentiful then, the hunters would return with what felt like a small herd of antelopes and at times they wouldn’t even finish it before it spoiled.
But now, the band was reluctant to split. In recent seasons, their numbers had decreased from over a hundred to just twenty. Some had left in hopes of finding more fertile lands. Others died naturally, from old age and homotherium. And still many more died from disease, starvation, thirst and on the worst days, from the hands of their own family.
Salmo still kept her father and mother’s skull close, usually in a hide sling around her shoulder as she walked from campsite to campsite, collecting in it what little food she could find along the way.
She was twenty-three seasons old. She was the oldest woman in her band and the valley’s most eligible bachelorette.
That morning however, for the first time in a long time, things didn’t seem so bleak.
Okro, the band’s second oldest, had found a patch of forest by the river which was green and thrumming with fruit, game and a cool breeze swinging from the mountains. It was the perfect place to set camp for a while and by midday a few of the hunters, Amaranto, Akvo, and Manda had managed to put down a lone rhinoceros. Salmo led a fire building and soon, before the sky was even orange, the band had a fair bounty of meat, tubers, and fruit being roasted and eaten simultaneously.
As they ate and bathed, the band conversed and laughed, a noise sweet to Salmo’s ears. Amaranto told a story from his childhood, a tale of the time he watched two Australopithecus being chased by a Chalicotherium, which in turn was being chased by a pack of hyenas, which yes, in turn were being chased by a family of Habilis. Okro shared a vision of wonder, the tale of last night’s stars innumerable, where some seemed to appear from nowhere, flash across the sky in splendid green and blue, then vanish. And Akvo shared the time he was foraging and was spooked so severely by a zebra both he and the equine ran head first into a tree trying to escape each other. Everyone laughed, everyone smiled, and everything was well.
Things were going so well, Manda, fresh from the water, had even unexpectedly sat behind Salmo and with unspoken permission began to groom her hair, clearing it of knots and the ticks that had been bothering her for the last few days. She was a welcome and cool distraction from the heat and very quickly Salmo found herself resting against her chest and smiling up at her. For a moment life was perfect and the worst of the drought was long gone. She let herself close her eyes and begin a brief drifting nap.
And suddenly a trumpeting call shattered the peace.
Salmo jolted out Manda’s lap and spun to the commotion. And what a terrible sight it was.
A whole herd of deinotherium were entering the grotto and, obvious by the lead female’s warning display, calf hidden behind her legs and her trunk raised high, they were not intent on sharing.
The whole band was immediately too disarrayed.
The older ones who knew better, Salmo and many of the hunters began to back off. Some of the younger ones froze, uncertain of the sudden intrusion. But Akvo, stupid scared-of-zebras Akvo who had barely finished losing his milk teeth, suddenly thought himself brave and rushed forward hollering as though he alone or even any of the band combined had a chance of chasing off eleven terrible beasts. Before anyone had the chance to grab or warn him, the matriarch charged forward and trampled him with a resounding crack.
The next few moments were an adrenaline filled blur. The peaceful oasis fell behind and all too quickly, the band was in the throngs of the dry and dying forest once more. There was barely enough time to stop and react. By the time the band had regrouped to gather their bearings, Salmo realized too late she had left her parents behind.
For a moment she froze, uncertainty gripping her like a fist. Her eyes caught Manda, still kneeled over and catching her breath. She furrowed her brow, confused, then realizing what was missing, desperately tried to rush towards and stop Salmo from running.
She was too late.
Salmo charged headlong back into the fray until the river widened and gave way to the proboscidea-filled clearing. The deinotherium, still rowdy from the initial charge, took the reintrusion as a supreme indiscretion and one-by-one raised their heads to impale. Salmo spotted her satchel sitting against the tree trunk where she left it and with lungs and muscles burning, charged through moving mountains of meat determined to end her frantic and desperate movements. Perhaps the one benefit that came from being so tiny against such imposing monsters, she was fast and they were slow.
She reached her pack quickly, stopping only for a fraction of a second to confirm her parents had not been reduced to bone meal. It was nearly a fraction too long and the tree which they were resting on, thin and young, suddenly vanished in an explosion of sticks and leaves as the matriarch deinotherium paraded through.
Suddenly cut off from the way she had come, Salmo ran towards the only direction available left to her, towards where the crumpled corpse of Akvo lay still.
Except. . . oh fuck.
Salmo stopped, wide eyed.
From the form that had once been Akvo came the quietest moan of pain. His arm twitched and grasped uselessly at the dirt. Fuck it all, he was still alive.
Salmo didn’t even think. It would have been easier to just keep running, he was in no state to live and after thirteen seasons she was far too used to leaving members of the band behind. But she had come back for her parents. In the evenings she brushed their capless heads of dust and kissed them goodnight. Who–what would she even be if she didn’t come back for Akvo?
Before she realized it, the wretched body of Akvo was thrown over shoulders. She tried, desperately to ignore his cries of agony as she forced his body to move in a way it no longer could. It was surprisingly easy, especially when the memory of deinotherium trumpeted with enough sound to deafen were only feet from them. Unsurprisingly, it was much harder to avoid them while encumbered with one hundred extra pounds of adolescent on her back, and a fatal misstep had both of them knocked to the ground by leg thicker than both of them combined.
Salmo cursed, at both herself and the deinotherium. She hadn’t been thinking. Everything that had gone wrong was because she wasn’t thinking. She shouldn’t have rushed to get her parents. She shouldn’t have stopped to save Akvo. She shouldn’t have run straight into the center of the parade, blindly following some empathetic instinct that was now going to kill her via obliterated sternum. The deinotherium surrounded them, the only way out fast closing. She would never get to her feet in time. Her band would lose one of their oldest and youngest in the same second. The grief would end them all.
She had to get up. It was more important than breathing.
So she stood.
And in that instant, the tusks of the matriarch curved down her vision, impaling firmly in her chest.
For a moment, before the pain settled in, Salmo felt as though she was floating, lifted by the wind like a wild leaf torn from a fallen tree.
Then, she slipped from the tusks and collapsed, choking in the dirt.
She twitched and spasmed, the air around her refused to enter her lungs. Her chest tightened and collapsed. It felt as though she was the collision of two stones being beaten against one another. Blood pooled from her heart, from her neck, from her mouth. She tried to gasp, to crawl to do anything useful, but her body couldn’t do anything but turn in on itself like a dying spider. She was faintly aware of the thunderous collapse of massive legs around her. She saw Akvo vanish beneath a cloud of dust. Through the noise of trumpeting and her shuddering failure to breathe, she heard–then felt–several loud cracks as her legs, then her abdomen, were trampled.
She regretted that they missed her head.
Even though her body had stopped moving, Salmo remained painfully aware she was alive. Rather, aware that she was dying. The world had begun to lose its color. The trees, the water, even the azure of the sky, all grew a matching deinotherium gray. Perhaps fortunately, for the first time in many seasons, Salmo felt cold, even though it was day. With each pulse of agony she shivered.
She turned to look at her satchel, spilling a new wad of blood from her lips as she did. The herd had missed it. Her parents were intact.
Pain, emotion, it was all beginning to fade away now, but Salmo still felt some satisfaction that she had managed to keep them safe for so long. Perhaps, once the deinotherium left this grotto, her band would come and find her body.
If she was still fresh–though given the circumstances they’d still take her rotten–they would crack open her bones and serve out her marrow. They would consume her fat, her muscles, and very likely, they too would remove her skull cap and eat her brain. Perhaps one of them–she hoped for Manda–would keep her skull close. Though next time, if it came to it, she would not blame them for leaving her behind.
Slowly she began to close her eyes, though it was very possible her eyes were still open and darkness was arriving anyways. The last thing she was aware of before being lulled into that blissful forever nap was a gentle rumbling. At least, it felt gentle. The deinotherium seemed utterly perturbed by it.
Then there was one final pang of heat and a deafening, fiery roar.
And finally, Salmo died.
…
Then, as though morning had come anew. . .
Salmo woke up.
Why Split System Air Conditioning Is Perfect for Maitland Homes
A charming city nestled in the heart of the Hunter Region, where the climate swings like a pendulum. Scorching summer afternoons. Nippy winter mornings.
Thus, living in Maitland demands a cooling and heating solution that adapts with grace. Enter the split system air conditioner. Compact and cost-efficient, this hero has become a go-to choice for homeowners seeking comfort all year round.
Particularly in a place like Maitland, where heritage homes meet modern builds, flexibility matters. It slots neatly into bedrooms, lounges, and offices without requiring any ductwork or large-scale remodelling. Just quiet, consistent climate control—tailored to your space.
So, let’s see why split system air conditioning in Maitland is perfect.
A Match Made in Maitland
Split systems and Maitland homes go hand in hand. Why?
The local architecture varies. Some homes are century-old sandstone structures, while others are sleek, minimalist builds with open layouts. Split systems cater to both by mounting easily on walls and operating independently.
This versatility makes split systems an attractive choice. There’s no need for whole-home installations.
Climate Control That Listens
Maitland’s weather is as unpredictable as a cricket match. One day it’s 36°C and the next, clouds roll in and cool breezes sweep through. So, you need a system that adapts on command. Split systems do just that. With remote controls and modern smart features, you can tweak the temperature with a button. Some units even sense the room’s activity. Fewer people? It scales back. More movement? It ramps up.
Reverse cycle units offer both heating and cooling. You’re not buying two machines. One sleek device handles both summer scorchers and winter chills. No more jumping between ceiling fans and portable heaters. A split system keeps everything simple and seamless.
Energy Efficiency: The Silent Hero
Electricity bills sting, and split systems are energy misers. Most boast high star ratings. They sip power rather than guzzle it. This is vital in Maitland, where families often live in larger homes with multiple living spaces. By only running the air conditioning in rooms being used, you avoid wasting energy.
In comparison, ducted systems condition the entire house, even empty rooms. Not ideal. Split systems put control back in your hands. Plus, modern models come with timers, eco modes, and sleep functions. They know when to rest, saving you money without sacrificing comfort.
Quiet as a Whisper
Maitland is peaceful, especially at night. Birds rustle in gum trees. The breeze hums through the valley. A loud air conditioner would ruin the vibe. Thankfully, split systems are whisper-quiet. Their indoor units hum gently. Outdoor compressors are tucked away and subdued.
This makes them ideal for light sleepers, for shift workers catching up on rest, or for home offices where background noise is the enemy. You won’t hear rattling or buzzing. Just crisp, cool air delivered in silence.
Easy Installation, No Drama
Installing a split system is straightforward. Technicians mount the indoor unit on a wall, and the outdoor unit sits nearby, often along the same wall or around the corner. A small pipe links the two. That’s it.
This simplicity makes them ideal for renters and renovators. Live in a rental property in East Maitland? A landlord might approve a split system faster than a ducted setup. Own a federation-style home with ornate ceilings? Avoid tampering with the structure. Go split. Keep it classy.
Cost-Effective Comfort
Split systems deliver value without blowing budgets.
• Upfront costs are reasonable.
• Running costs stay low with proper use.
• Servicing is inexpensive.
• Spare parts are readily available.
In Maitland, where families are budget-conscious and property values vary widely, a split system provides affordable comfort. You don’t have to commit to a full-home overhaul. Install one unit now. Add more later. Grow your system as your needs grow.
Flexibility meets affordability.
Great for Allergy Sufferers
The Hunter Region blooms beautifully, but with flowers come allergens. But split systems help. Many include built-in filters that trap dust, mould spores, and pollen. Some even neutralise odours and bacteria.
That’s a game changer, especially for households with asthma sufferers, pets, or young kids.
Modern Looks for Modern Homes
Forget the chunky units of the past. Today’s split systems are sleek and stylish. They are available in soft whites, silvers, and blacks; they blend with interiors rather than clash. Some models feature minimal displays, while others integrate smart home technology.
A contemporary home in Aberglasslyn or Bolwarra won’t feel cluttered with these. They mount flush to the wall and hide their tech behind elegant designs.
Reliable All Year Round
Maitland gets humid, which can make older air conditioners struggle. They rust and leak. But split systems are built tough. Many models are designed for Australia’s unpredictable climate. They handle heatwaves, frost, and even dehumidify rooms when necessary.
A Smart Choice for Future-Proofing
Homes in Maitland are becoming smarter. Smart doorbells. Smart lights. Smart irrigation. Split systems are keeping pace. Many come with Wi-Fi connectivity. You can control them with your phone, set schedules, and turn them on before you get home. You can also monitor your energy usage.
Final Words
Maitland is a place of contrast, and split air conditioners rise to this challenge. They offer flexibility, style, and performance. They respect your home’s layout and your wallet.
For families, for singles, for retirees—this system suits everyone. It’s not just about staying comfortable, it’s about living smarter. Living cleaner. Living better.
So, if you’re looking to beat the Maitland heat or chase away the winter chill, don’t overlook the humble split system. Talk to the experts at Onsite Air for further support with your split air conditioning installation in Maitland.
It might just be your home’s best upgrade yet.
8 Benefits of Using Fly Ash in Concrete Mixes
Concrete Hunter Valley is the cornerstone of modern construction, and its versatility makes it a critical component in everything from skyscrapers to roads. However, as the demand for sustainable and more efficient construction practices rises, builders and engineers are exploring alternative materials to enhance concrete’s performance. Fly ash, a byproduct of coal combustion, is gaining widespread attention for its ability to improve the quality, durability, and environmental footprint of concrete. Here, we dive into the eight benefits of using fly ash in concrete mixes, exploring its advantages for performance, cost, and sustainability.
1. Increased Strength and Durability
Concrete made with fly ash exhibits improved strength over time compared to traditional mixes. This is largely due to the pozzolanic reaction between fly ash and calcium hydroxide, a byproduct of cement hydration. Fly ash works by converting calcium hydroxide into additional calcium silicate hydrate (CSH), the compound responsible for the strength in concrete.
While standard Portland cement reaches its maximum strength within 28 days, concrete containing fly ash continues to gain strength for months, or even years, depending on the mix and environmental conditions. This gradual increase in strength results in concrete that is less prone to cracking, deformation, or early deterioration, making it ideal for large-scale infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, and high-rise buildings that require long-term structural integrity.
2. Improved Workability
The incorporation of fly ash into concrete mixes greatly enhances workability. Workability refers to how easily the concrete can be mixed, transported, placed, and finished. Fly ash particles are spherical and extremely fine, acting as tiny ball bearings within the concrete mix. This lubricating effect reduces the friction between aggregates, which allows for a smoother mix with less effort.
This improved workability is particularly advantageous in complex or large-scale projects where concrete needs to be pumped over long distances or into tight spaces. Fly ash-enriched concrete flows more easily into forms, fills voids more effectively, and achieves a more uniform surface finish, which can lead to reduced labour costs and faster construction timelines. Moreover, because fly ash reduces the water demand of concrete, it helps in producing stronger and more cohesive mixes that are easier to handle, particularly in challenging environments.
3. Reduced Heat of Hydration
Heat of hydration is the heat generated when water reacts with cement during the curing process. This heat can lead to thermal cracking, especially in large pours such as dam foundations, bridge piers, or slabs. Excessive heat generation in concrete can cause rapid changes in temperature, leading to cracks that compromise the structural integrity of the concrete over time.
Fly ash reduces the heat of hydration by slowing down the chemical reactions between water and cement. Since it reacts more slowly than Portland cement, it allows the concrete to cool more gradually, minimising the temperature differential between the core and surface of the structure. This is particularly beneficial in large projects where controlling temperature is critical to avoiding early-age cracking. By using fly ash, engineers can reduce the need for expensive cooling systems or post-cure treatments, resulting in more durable and crack-resistant structures.
4. Increased Resistance to Chemical Attack
Concrete structures are often exposed to harsh environmental conditions that can degrade their durability over time. Common culprits include sulphates, chlorides, and acids found in soil, water, or industrial pollutants. Sulphate attack, for instance, can cause expansive reactions within the concrete, leading to cracking, spalling, and overall deterioration.
Fly ash enhances the concrete’s resistance to these chemical attacks. It reduces the amount of calcium hydroxide in the mix, which is more vulnerable to chemical reactions. In addition, the denser microstructure of fly ash concrete limits the ingress of harmful chemicals, protecting the reinforcing steel from corrosion and reducing the risk of damage from sulphate, chloride, and other aggressive agents. For projects in coastal areas or industrial environments where exposure to harsh chemicals is common, fly ash can significantly extend the lifespan of concrete structures.
5. Reduced Permeability
Permeability is a critical factor in determining the durability of concrete. High permeability allows water and other harmful substances, like chlorides and carbon dioxide, to enter the concrete and reach the steel reinforcement. This can lead to corrosion, cracking, and other forms of deterioration that shorten the life of the structure.
Fly ash reduces the permeability of concrete by filling in the tiny pores and capillaries that naturally form during the curing process. The finer particles of fly ash help create a denser matrix, which makes it harder for water and harmful chemicals to penetrate. This increased impermeability is especially important in environments that are prone to freeze-thaw cycles, where water infiltration can cause severe damage to the concrete. The long-term durability benefits of reduced permeability can significantly lower maintenance costs and extend the service life of concrete infrastructure.
6. Environmental Sustainability
Concrete production is known to be resource-intensive, with cement manufacturing being responsible for a substantial portion of global CO2 emissions. As environmental concerns become more pressing, the construction industry is seeking ways to reduce its carbon footprint. One of the most impactful strategies is to use fly ash as a partial replacement for Portland cement.
Fly ash is a byproduct of coal-fired power plants, and using it in concrete diverts this waste from landfills. Additionally, since fly ash can replace up to 30% or more of the cement in a concrete mix, it reduces the demand for new cement production, thereby cutting down on the greenhouse gases associated with cement manufacturing. This makes fly ash concrete an environmentally sustainable option for eco-conscious projects. By adopting fly ash in concrete mixes, construction companies can contribute to the circular economy while minimising their environmental impact.
7. Cost-Effective Solution
One of the most immediate benefits of using fly ash is its cost-effectiveness. Fly ash is often less expensive than Portland cement, making it a more affordable option for concrete production. By replacing a portion of cement with fly ash, construction projects can reduce their material costs without sacrificing quality or performance.
In addition to lower upfront costs, the long-term savings associated with fly ash concrete can be significant. The increased durability, reduced permeability, and enhanced resistance to chemical attacks mean that structures built with fly ash concrete require less maintenance and fewer repairs over time. This translates to lower lifecycle costs for infrastructure projects, making fly ash a smart financial choice for builders and developers looking to maximise their investment.
8. Enhanced Aesthetic Qualities
While concrete is valued for its strength and functionality, its aesthetic appeal is also a consideration in many architectural applications. Fly ash can contribute to a smoother, more polished surface finish, as its fine particles fill in the gaps between aggregates and create a denser, more uniform concrete. This can result in cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing surfaces that require less cosmetic work.
Additionally, fly ash can impart a lighter colour to the concrete, which can be an advantage in certain design contexts. Lighter-coloured concrete reflects more sunlight, which can help reduce heat absorption in urban environments, contributing to the reduction of the urban heat island effect. In applications like decorative concrete, architectural façades, or exposed concrete surfaces, fly ash offers the dual benefit of performance and aesthetics.
The use of fly ash in concrete mixes offers an array of benefits that improve both the performance and sustainability of concrete structures. From enhancing strength and durability to improving workability and reducing environmental impact, fly ash has proven to be an invaluable additive in modern concrete production. Its cost-effectiveness and ability to create more durable, aesthetically pleasing, and eco-friendly concrete make it an ideal choice for both large-scale infrastructure and smaller projects alike. As the construction industry continues to evolve towards greener and more efficient practices, fly ash will remain a key player in building the future of sustainable construction.
The Healer of Shakkara - Book One
*Warning Adult Content*
Chapter 14 - Followed - Part 1
The moon had yet to rise and a light haze of summer dust, probably kicked up by a distant storm in the southern deserts of Abarra, blurred and dimmed the stars.
Near total darkness lay over the flat, fertile farmland valley and the small party traversed it in silence.
They stuck to the long dirt roads that crisscrossed the valley and ran between rows of fields.
The ground was packed hard, cracked and dry with the summer heat and they could pass along it in silence and with little trace.
According to Sevhalim, the risk of walking in the open outweighed that of being chased by some farmer's dog and rousing the whole country 'round. Sev, who seemed to have unnaturally good eyesight and Zenir, whose sharpened hearing might warn them of hazards unseen, led the way and the rest followed in a line.
The farmlands were at their peak before the harvest, the fields packed with tall rows of corn, sun-ripened wheat, pumpkins and squashes, tomatoes, potatoes, beans, greens and various other crops.
The rich scents of growing things, fertile soil and animal manure drifted on the cooling air.
Closer to the valley's far side, where the land began to rise towards the base of the hills, there were orchards of fruit and nut trees, apple, almond, walnut, pear, plum, persimmon and sweet little oranges.
The perfume of ripening fruit made a pleasant change but had its downside, too.
Memories rose in Galen's mind, triggered by the scents... annual birthday trips to the orchards as a small child, riding on Harrald's shoulders to reach the higher fruit... a cup of cold apple cider and candied nuts as a treat and the long dusty wagon ride back at the end of a pleasant day.
Harrald had never pretended to be his real father but Galen couldn't have asked for a better one.
Unconsciously, his footsteps slowed and stopped.
He turned and looked back to the black line of the distant woods and wondered if he'd ever see Dern or his father or his friends again.
He wished he'd had a chance to say goodbye.
As he looked back down the long, straight lane by which they'd come, a little dot of orange light caught his eye, like the flicker of a candle in the dark.
He blinked and it was gone and he wondered if he'd imagined it.
Then Rea came alongside him and paused.
"You saw it, too?" she asked.
"Yes."
She nodded and quickened her pace to catch up to Sev and Zenir.
Galen couldn't hear what she said but Sev glanced back down the road behind them with a frown.
They continued on and then, when the road dipped into a little hollow that hid them from sight, Sev led them away from it and into the weedy grass beneath the old apple trees.
When they'd gone some ways into the orchard, he crouched low to the ground and gestured for the others to do the same.
"Seems we've got a tail," he said.
"Hunters?" Obi asked.
Rea shook her head.
"Too quiet and too few. I'd guess it's not more than three."
"Trackers, then?" Iksy asked grimly and Galen shivered as he got the sense he didn't mean the usual sort of woodsman who followed game.
Sevhalim had something about trackers, too, when he'd first encountered Galen in the forest and Galen had the same feeling then.
He was glad when Sev shook his head.
"No. It's too soon for that and they wouldn't come from Dern, anyway. These are human shadows, probably a few overeager Guards with the right skills. Regardless of the care we've taken, we're bound to have left a trail."
"And due to our... delay," Rea said, glancing at Galen.
"That trail is still fresh."
"If it's only two or three, we can handle them easily," Obi said.
"They'd be fools to take us on alone."
"Agreed," said Sev.
"Which is why we mustn't assume they are alone. If they're truly skilled enough to have followed us this far, they're probably scouts. If they are two or three in number, they could send one back for reinforcements while the others stay on the trail. A party on horseback could catch up with us easily. I'm afraid we've got to deal with this now, while we still have the advantage."
Rea nodded and fingered the hilt of a long knife she wore at her hip.
"I'll double back and take care of it."
"You mean to murder them?" Galen whispered, appalled.
"Pre-emptive self-defense," Zenir murmured, with a hint of irony.
"The boy is right," Iksthanis said, surprising him.
"They may be scouts, tracking us... they may be innocent farmers, out on business of their own. We should not strike unless we are sure of our target."
Sev glanced up into the thick branches of the old trees.
"I agree and fortunately, I also have an idea."
They walked in single file through the orchard, along a row of large old trees.
One by one, starting with Rea, who walked, in the lead, they reached or leaped and caught sturdy branches, swung themselves up and disappeared into the leaves.
Finally, just Sev, Galen and Iksthanis remained.
No branch was strong enough to hold Iksy's weight, so he continued on alone while Sev helped Galen into the last tree.
Now perched above their trail, they waited.
Since they had walked in a line, the idea was that their trackers wouldn't immediately notice that their numbers were dwindling.
By the time they did... if they did... they'd be right in the midst of them, taken unaware.
Then they could ascertain who followed them... and why... and act accordingly.
Galen clutched at the rough branches in which he crouched and tried not to move or make a sound.
A little in front of him, Sevhalim readied his bow, nocking an arrow to the string.
The night was quiet and still, with barely a breeze to stir the trees.
Galen held his breath as one minute blended with the next and slowly passed.
The steady trill of insect song filled the air and in the distance, a dog barked.
Then he heard another sound, quiet voices, hardly more than whispers and the soft tread of footsteps in the dry grass, drawing near.
"Are you sure they left the road?" one voice said.
"Yes. Be quiet," said a second.
"You think they stopped to camp?"
"No. They won't stop this side of the hills."
"But what if they walked all night?"
"Then we'll walk all night, too. If the trail goes cold, we lose him."
"Do you think these apples are ripe? I'm hungry."
"No. You'll get a stomachache. Now shut up."
As the two figures came into view through the leaves, he could just make out their shapes in the darkness.
One was tall and slender.
The other was wider and followed a little behind, with a less steady and less silent gait.
This second carried a lantern with a cover, through which only a tiny beam of light escaped, illuminating the ground.
As the light splashed over the figure in the lead, Galen could no longer deny what his ears and eyes were telling him, no matter how impossible it seemed.
Meanwhile, Sev had drawn his own conclusions from the overheard words and drew back the string of his bow.
Galen lurched forward with a cry to stay his hand, lost his grip on the branches and tumbled the eight feet or so through scratching twigs and leaves to the grass below.
Fortunately, the ground was soft with the mulch of seasons past and while the breath was knocked from his lungs, he was otherwise uninjured by the fall.
Sev dropped lightly to the ground at his side, landing in a crouch with his bow still drawn.
Galen gulped air as his lungs unfroze, coughing and struggling to his knees as he clutched at Sev's sleeve. "
Please," he gasped. "Don't shoot."
Sev glanced his way but kept his bow drawn.
"Lower your weapons and declare yourselves," he demanded, aiming at the figures, one of which held a drawn bow as well.
In the dim light of the lantern the second figure held, Galen saw a splash of red hair.
"My name is Trissandra, 2nd Lieutenant of the Dernian Guard," she declared.
"And this is Behn, son of Borik, of Dern."
"And why are you following us?"
Triss lifted her chin in defiance.
"We're here for Galen Varek. Let him go and no one gets hurts."
Sev smiled.
"You are two against five and only one of you appears fit to fight."
Triss drew her bowstring taut.
"I'm the best shot in my rank. You can shoot me but don't bet I won't shoot you before I go down."
Air Conditioning Services Maitland: Keeping You Cool All Year Round
When the summer heat hits or the winter chill sets in, having a reliable and efficient air conditioning system can make all the difference. Whether you need to install a new unit, maintain an existing one, or require a fast repair, Air Conditioning Services in Maitland is your go-to solution for comfort. Serving the Maitland area and surrounding regions, these services are essential to ensure that your home or office remains at the ideal temperature throughout the year.
In this blog, we’ll delve into the importance of quality air conditioning services and how you can benefit from them in Maitland, as well as highlight the role of Air Conditioning in Newcastle in the broader region. Let’s explore why professional air conditioning services are crucial and how they can improve your comfort and energy efficiency.
Why Air Conditioning Services in Maitland Are Essential
Maitland, located in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, experiences a wide range of weather conditions. Summers can be sweltering, while winters can get quite chilly. Having an air conditioner that works efficiently and reliably is vital for comfort in your home or business. This is where Air Conditioning Services in Maitland comes into play.
Here are some of the key reasons why investing in professional air conditioning services in Maitland is essential:
1. Efficient Cooling and Heating:
With extreme temperature variations, it’s crucial to have an air conditioning system that can efficiently cool or heat your indoor spaces. Whether it’s a split system, ducted air conditioning, or a portable unit, Air Conditioning Services in Maitland ensures that your system is working at its optimal level. Regular servicing keeps the unit clean, the refrigerant levels correct, and the system running smoothly.
2. Prolonging the Life of Your System:
Air conditioners are a significant investment, and just like any other appliance, they require regular maintenance to function correctly. Air Conditioning Services in Maitland typically include cleaning filters, checking refrigerant levels, and ensuring all components are in good condition. This proactive approach prevents minor issues from turning into major, costly repairs and extends the lifespan of your unit.
3. Energy Efficiency:
A well-maintained air conditioner runs more efficiently and consumes less energy. This translates to lower energy bills, which is especially important in areas like Maitland, where air conditioners are used regularly. Air Conditioning Services in Maitland can fine-tune your system to ensure that it operates with maximum energy efficiency, saving you money in the long run.
4. Improved Air Quality:
Air conditioning systems also help maintain the quality of the air inside your home. Over time, dust, dirt, and allergens can accumulate in the system, leading to poor indoor air quality. With Air Conditioning Services in Maitland, the air filters and internal components are cleaned regularly, ensuring that the air you breathe is fresh and healthy.
5. Emergency Repairs:
Air conditioners are prone to breakdowns, especially during extreme weather conditions when they are being used most heavily. Air Conditioning Services in Maitland offers fast and reliable repair services to get your system up and running as quickly as possible. Whether it’s a fault with the compressor, a refrigerant leak, or a malfunctioning thermostat, professional technicians are equipped to handle all types of repairs.
Choosing the Right Air Conditioning Services in Maitland
When selecting Air Conditioning in Newcastle, it’s essential to choose a company that can meet your specific needs. Here are a few tips for finding the right air conditioning provider:
Look for Licensed and Experienced Technicians: Ensure the service provider has licensed technicians with experience in installing, servicing, and repairing different types of air conditioning systems. Experience matters when it comes to diagnosing problems and providing efficient solutions.
1. Check Reviews and Reputation:
Customer reviews are a great way to gauge the quality of service. Look for companies with a good reputation in the Maitland community for reliability, professionalism, and customer satisfaction.
2. Comprehensive Services:
Opt for a service provider that offers a full range of services, from installation to maintenance and emergency repairs. This ensures that you have a one-stop solution for all your air conditioning needs.
3. Energy Efficiency Expertise:
A provider who is knowledgeable about energy-efficient systems and solutions can help you reduce your energy consumption while maintaining a comfortable indoor environment.
The Role of Air Conditioning Newcastle in the Region
As Maitland is part of the Hunter Valley, it’s essential to recognise the broader air conditioning network in the region, especially in Air Conditioning Newcastle. Newcastle, the larger city located nearby, is home to many top-tier air conditioning services that also serve the Maitland area. Many air conditioning companies operate across both cities, offering their expertise to meet the needs of both residential and commercial customers.
Air Conditioning Newcastle companies provide similar services, including installation, maintenance, and repair. Because Newcastle is close to Maitland, these services often extend to both areas, ensuring that customers have access to high-quality air conditioning solutions regardless of their location.
For businesses in Maitland, Air Conditioning Newcastle companies provide specialised services such as large-scale installations, regular maintenance contracts, and emergency repairs for commercial air conditioning systems.
What To Expect When Your Lab Experiment Drinks Formula| PT. 3
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Rook Hunt (Part 1)
Part three by popular demand! Malleus, Rook, Floyd, Sebek, Lilia, and Azul with feisty toddlers.
Warnings: angry toddlers, exhausted parents
Note: Every character has more than one child now with the exception of Azul.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Malleus Draconia
The new princes and princesses of Briar Valley are Tiny Little MenacesTM.
You are Malleus are dealing with two wild toddlers, and one extremely fire-loving baby. Fire-loving, as in, the entire room has had to be fully fire proofed, from the walls to the ceiling.
The other children love being outside and playing, which gets them out of your hair while you attempt to feed and care for baby #3, oven mitts and fire-proof gear on.
The only one that your baby won't lease a barrage of firey giggles onto is Great-Grandma Maleficia, who can pick up the child without worry, a blessing in disguise to poor you and Malleus.
Whenever you aren't trying to wrangle the littlest Draconia heir, you and Malleus' time is filled by playing with rambunctious dragon toddlers. Your oldest is still as mischievous as ever, now taking off in full distance flights with your lunch everytime you turn around, and your younger toddler requiring immense amounts of attention.
All three have been deemed the 'wildest children the Draconia bloodline has ever seen', which says a lot. You hope they grow out of it, but the little ones seem stubbornly wild, with no chance of changing anytime soon.
Long training flights with Malleus often leave you watching the skies for their return at dinner time. It's not the life you imagined. But it's the life you never expect that's the one that satisfies you.
Rook Hunt
"HEYYYYYY!!!! PAPAAAA! LOOK WHAT I CAUGHT!" It's always a peaceful evening when the children are outside, until it's not.
Your 3 year old has been regularly running in with things you don't even know how they've caught as a toddler with no weapons.
Today, it's a bird bigger than your toddler's tiny body.
Rook has been diligently teaching your children how to hunt since they could walk, taking them for small hunting trips and shooting targets with children's play-bows.
Only two of your five children are too young to hunt, in his eyes, and even then you have not escaped their sharp, predatory gaze, which has been present since birth. You have no doubts that all of your children will be hunters. It's definitely a given, and as you've seen from Rook's family, seems to run in their blood.
The toddlers go outside and play on your patio every evening when the heat cools down, allowing you and Rook to have some peace and quiet. Rook is very enamored with the family you've created together. He always dreamed of finding beauty in his future, but never knew it would be so soon, and in the form of a domestic life with a spouse and children.
You and Rook are happy with this life you've created, enjoying the ups and downs of parenthood, the thrills of hunting with your whole family, the cuddly movie nights and soft words exchanged between you and your kids every night before bed.
It's a perfect life, one you never expected get, and never to love as much as you do.
Floyd Leech
It's been challenging for Floyd to be away from the sea for so long. You both agreed that it would be easier and more comfortable to live on land for the sake of your family, but it's definitely been a source of tension. Floyd and the children both go out to sea often as a compromise, leaving you all alone with the family pets and the occasional guest.
When they're home, you all spend hours together playing and loving on each other. All seven of your little ones have grown accustomed to Floyd, and have shifted their little spats of dominance to between each other.
It's true, it's practically a full-time job to keep them all from fighting. The youngest ones are the most ruthless, attacking their siblings and destroying their surroundings entirely as they cry and whine, throwing little catty hands at each other as 'fights'. It seems to do more emotional damage than physical.
Then again, are your surroundings ever not destroyed by the 7 restless children? They're so obscenely playful that they make sure that your life is challenging to say the least. Sometimes you're glad for the break you get when they go for day-long dives under the sea. They're probably making some tornadic-like mess of Jade's home, but that's not the end of the world for you.
Your relationship with Floyd is nothing short of magical. There's still as much love there as there was when you started dating, if not more. Your family has its odd little quirks, but what matters is that you're all together, happy and proud of the life you've created. You are especially thrilled that you made your own life work in a world that wasn't even yours. You've made it your home now, and you could never feel more content than you do now.
Sebek Zigvolt
Sebek has grown to love his children very much. After your first began to love on him as often as you, he fell completely into the role of a family man. All three of your children love Sebek immensely, having grown fond of him after he let down his guard around them.
Your littlest one is the perfect carbon copy of Sebek, even at 15 months old. Not only does this child seem to possess no personality traits or features of yours, this little one's very first word was 'Mallie'. Sebek could not be prouder, and more eager to train his children in the path of a royal retainer afterwards.
Your oldest is still the wildest little mini croc you've ever seen. Nothing in the parenting books could have prepared you for your child's defiance and strong will. The other two, though relatively calmer children, seem to eagerly egg on your oldest with nonsense excited baby babble.
Now that your oldest's teeth have grown in fully, Sebek has to watch his limbs carefully. His family is known for their bite power, and this child is no exception by a long shot, seeming to have a stronger bite than even Sebek himself. Though your toddler does love Sebek dearly, they haven't learned that biting isn't a game. And after biting clean through a leg of furniture last month, Sebek has been terrified ever since.
The younger two don't use their teeth to bite people, but toys and furniture are a free-for-all.
Your children are very adept and skilled at squirming out of any situation, physically and verbally. You think to yourself that they will in fact make wonderful guards some day, but you don't ever tell Sebek that for fear that he'll make the poor things train even harder to please both of their parents.
You and Sebek end up on the floor, playing games with your very imaginative children quite often, cuddling and laughing with each other while they all pretend to be royal knights and sometimes, doctors. Sebek won't say it but he thinks his oldest would make a very good doctor and he approves.
You've never been happier, and never more in love with Sebek, as is he, you. It's a perfect fairytale world for the two of you. Who knew that Twisted Wonderland would end up becoming where you were always meant to be?
Lilia Vanrouge
C H A O S.
There's twelve little Vanrouges running around, acting absolutely chaotic and mischievous at all times. Poor you and Lilia. Twelve children under four sounds cute but it's an absolute nightmare, especially when they have the lineage of a certain silly fae.
It's manageable, but only because Silver is there suffering with y'all. And barely. Sometimes you think he's about to run out of the house and cry after some unwitting action that led to a vicious prank from one or more children.
Last week, they cornered him from all sides with sticks while you and Lilia were out, and the oldest threatened to poke him in the eyes.
Some mischief, lots pure evil.
It's only you that can scoop them up and tell them to behave, because they are absolutely remorseless in their merciless bullying of their father. Most of them don't even call him dad. They call him 'oldie'. The ones that are too young to talk still laugh at him.
Lilia doesn't mind too much, scolding them for their rudeness, but rarely punishing them. He claims he's too old to be properly disciplining them, but it's quite obvious that he's reminiscent of himself in these children.
During the good moments, you might be able to convince the children to at least make a father's day card, or get them to agree not to prank Silver on his birthday. Usually this is still done with bribery. But sometimes, the sweetest moments are unprompted. Like the time your daughter sat on Lilia's lap and gave him a hug after he watched a scary movie, because 'Daddy might have nightmares.'
Your family is wholly complete Silver hopes and prays. You and Lilia are happy, and content. Lilia is still overjoyed that he got the chance to have biological children, and you're just happy that you've found a place to settle down in Twisted Wonderland, and be happy.
Azul Ashengrotto
You only have one child still? Yeah. He loves your child dearly, but after much consideration and a lot of diapers changed, you decided one was for the best.
Your baby is three now 'Three n' a HALF', your child insists.
Your little one is pretty well-behaved. Despite being a spoiled only child, little Ashengrotto is very humble, kind, and sweet.
Definitely not like their money hungry father. This child just wants animal crackers and time at the swimming pool.
But your child is sharp-witted, just like Azul. There have been many times when you've said something to your toddler and had it immediately debunked with a smug look on their face.
It makes you laugh. And cry, a little bit. Time flies, and your child seems to mentally age two years for the physical price of one.
Your little one reminds you with a smile and crumb-littered cheeks and askew purple octopus glasses that they're still young, and always here for you. You are enthralled with your life with Azul and your baby, a real true blessing. This was how it was always meant to be, even if it wasn't how you ever thought your life would go.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Unless I write a part 4 by request this is probably the end of the series, but I really loved it! Thank you for coming along!! As always, feel free to request for more.
