The Jordan heat was almost unbearable and wearing a stilsuit didn't help at all. Between takes everyone was encouraged to drink plenty of water and sit in the shade. Denis made sure everyone was taaking breaks and staying in the shade.
Timothee spent the majority of his breaks sipping water and talking with Denis and his father who had flown out to Jordan to watch Timothee shoot his scenes for Dune 2. You had flown out with his dad and stayed at a apartment with Timothee while he filmed.
On this hot day. You had stayed back at the cool apartment after getting groceries from a local market. You decided to spend the rest of the day relaxing until Timothee and his dad returned.
Halfway through the filming day.
Timothee started feeling lightheaded and being in a heavy and uncomfortable still suit didn’t help.
He couldn’t really focus enough to say his lines. His entire body felt like it was on fire.
He stumbled through the sand back towards the resting area. Zendaya followed him worried.
Denis looked at the rest of the cast and crew and called them out to take a break. Seeing that Timothee really needed one. Everyone else probably did too.
“Papa I don’t feel good.” Timothee said as he went to sit by his dad.
“donne-lui de l'eau, donne-lui de l'eau!”
Denis called to the crew noticing how sweaty and pale Timothee seemed.
Timothee’s Dad placed his hat on his head as they sat together under the tent set up with a fan and coolers full of cold drinks. Tim’s Dad grabbed one water bottle opened it and handed it to Timothee.
“tu dois boire de l'eau.” His dad said.
Timothee took it and drank it eagerly as if he’d never get water again.
Zendaya grabbed her own bottle of water and sat next to Timothee. She reached up to touch his forehead.
“You’re burning bad Timmy. We need to cool you down.” Zendaya said worriedly.
Timothee’s Dad got up to get a rag and put it in the cooler of ice as well as towels.
Zendaya grabbed an already cold wash cloth from one of the other coolers to wipe Timothee’s face.
Timothee groaned and coughed harshly
“So hot.” He whined
“You’ll be ok Timmy.” Zendaya said.
Timothee: nodded and took a deep breath. Being in front of the fans was nice but to his body it wasn’t enough.
Timothee swallowed hard suddenly feeling nauseous.
“êtes-vous ok?” He heard Denis call in French.
Timothee’s head was swimming. He could barely focus on anything.
Denis sounded so far away. He got up and walked a few steps away to take a deep breath and try to calm down. His stomach started swirling around and his nausea increased tenfold.
He started to gag and the next thing he knew he was vomiting into the sand. He felt the hands of his father on his back.
He could feel everyone’s panic but couldn’t hear anything. He could barely make out his dad and Denis’s frantic french.
Then he was out.
The next thing you know you’re getting a call from Denis and he’s panicking as he explains that Timothee had vomited and collapsed during a film break.
“He’s at the hospital Y/N he’s not feeling well. He’s asleep now but he was asking for you as soon as he woke up when he got to the hospital. His dad is with him now.”
“I’ll be right there!” Don’t worry just make sure he’s comfortable ok?”
“Ok see you soon.” Denis said before you hung up and rushed to the hospital.
You found him curled up in a hospital bed covered in cooled blankets and ice packs.
You greet Timothee’s father and he reassures you he’ll be ok.
“The doctor said he’ll be ok. He’s getting fluids and rest now.”
You nod and look over to Timothee asleep yet shivering from the cold blankets and Ice packs.
You head over and sit next to him stroking his sweat soaked curls.
“Oh my darling boy.” You mutter softly as you stroke his curls.
When he wakes up and sees you he whimpers and begins to cry.
“Oh honey I’m here my dear.” You coo and kiss his nose.
“Don’t feel good. Cold.” He said weakly.
“You overheated and we need to cool down. You’ll be alright.”
His dad nods and moves closer to his beside.
“Je ne me sens pas bien papa.” Timothee whimpered.
“c'est bon Timothée, tout ira bien.” His father said trying to reassure his anxious son.
Timothee continued to cry feeling anxious and so sick. Soon he’s vomiting again and the doctors mention he could have sunstroke which is causing the vomiting spells.
You play with his curls with one hand and brush away his tears with the other. Despite the meds he’s being given intravenously. He’s still feeling really sick.
As the day progressed the med dosages are increased he finally starts to improve.
Soon the doctors give him the ok to be released and send you home with anti nausea medication and a few other medications to help him feel better.
Once back at the rented apartment you help Timothee with the bathroom. (He has the runs from the medicine.) then you help him get comfy in bed and give him water.
“We’ll be on a filming break until you feel 100% ok? Denis freaked and told me we’ll let you rest ok?” You tell him.
Timothee nods exhausted from the day. He headbutts you wanting cuddles.
Timothee’s dad ruffles his curls and scolds him for head butting you.
“mon cher garçon, ne fais pas ça.”
“It’s ok Marc he just wants cuddles is all.” You say.
Marc chuckles “he could have asked.”
“Leave the poor man be.” You say.
You crawl into bed next to Timothee and he moves closer to be held. His dad fetches him more water and hands you another blanket before heading to his room.
Timothee nuzzles you and headbutts you again.
“Hey! Your dad is right you know. Sometimes that head of yours hurts when you shove me.
He does it again and kisses you.
“Love you Mon cher,”
“Love you too. Please rest.”
“Only if you hold me?”
You kiss him.
“Of course lovey.”

Warning! Long post alert!
Thanks to @maybezax (Zax) for posting a clip on Twitter, showing several drivers crouching in exhaustion in the pit lane (not even in the shade, where this would make a bit more sense) after the 2024 Singaporean Grand Prix. It is one thing for drivers to put everything into a race, but it is unusual to see this many drivers collectively doing this at the same time. Indeed, the last time I saw this was Qatar 2023.
For anyone who doesn't remember the debacle that was Qatar 2023, the drivers were asked to race in a ridiculously hot and humid place, in cars that have to be driven with precision at high speed. It was a blatant safety issue, confirmed by multiple drivers reporting either passing out or neither do so in the cars, vision problems, someone vomiting and a driver having to be persuaded to retire (because one of the symptoms of heat exhaustion is not getting the signals to say one is ill until it the situation is severe).
- Not written names because names aren't the point here. This is about the general safety situation and anyone could easily have swapped reactions with another - or had other serious reactions - because severe dehydration is like that.
One of the ideas that was proposed was for F1 to pay attention to the wet-bulb global temperature for their location. F1 might not have adopted the idea, but it occurred to me to check, so we can see whether this was weather-related or a bunch of drivers simply went, "It's the last race before several weeks' break, let's put absolutely everything onto the track to end this phase of the season".
I've had a look at the wet-bulb rating for Marina Gardens (which I think is the closest weather station to the track that measures WGBT) and it had a wet-bulb of rating 35, or Black. This is above the Green-Yellow-Red rating Singapore usually uses for this purpose (red is for 33 C + and it is required in Singapore to offer 10-minute breaks every hour, to every worker in an outdoor occupation in these conditions https://www.mom.gov.sg/heat-stress-measures-for-outdoor-work/faqs-on-heat-stress-measures-for-outdoor-work ).
Exact readings:
S108 Marina Gardens Drive Temperature: 29.1 degrees Celcius Relative Humidity: 80.7% WBGT rating: 35 WGBT Rating: BLACK Time taken: 2024-09-23, Time 06:15:00, +08:00 ahead of the UK
(Please note that this is at the end of the night and the sun will only just have started rising. Usually, humidity drops during the night). If these drivers make it look like it was ridiculously hot and sticky out there… that's because it was.
Singapore has a Workplace Safety and Health Act covering this situation for employers and organisations alike: if the WGBT is 32 degrees or higher, and the job has to be done outdoors, every company must provide 10 minutes of rest to every worker (longer breaks are recommended above this, but aren't compulsory and I can't imagine the FIA jumping in to impose these). No exemption for sports appears to exist (there's a limited one for military personnel), nor is any other heat protection measure considered mitigation for this. The choices are:
1) Shorten the event to below an hour. 2) Postpone the event until WGBT is below 32 degrees Celcius. 3) Red-flag the race for 10 minutes every hour, starting the count from when the last marshal has had chance to get to the rest area following the last car entering the pits, and giving all marshals chance to resume their posts before resuming the race.
The race was longer than 1 hour. I did not see the FIA or the teams offer a break. (For those of you saying, "the drivers could have parked if they wanted to follow the law", the FIA is responsible for the marshals and they can't take their mandatory break until all the athletes are taking theirs, so mandation from the FIA and co-enforced by teams would be the only way to make this work).
Since the FIA has not obeyed this standard, it is now liable for every single issue that occurs from this. We know the F1 drivers struggled and they train for this exact scenario quite intensely. If any marshal complained to the Ministry of Manpower about this (and I would be surprised if all of them handled it better than the drivers), then the FIA would be liable, which in turn would make the teams jointly liable - even if everyone in the teams and travelling part of the paddock were OK with this arrangement.
It also underlines how important it is that WGBT is adopted before Qatar and the FIA and teams all be bound by it. I don't know what Qatar's laws are about WGBT, but it is unlikely that a F1 struggling with a Singapore that it's been to successfully for years prior to this would otherwise be equipped to handle a Qatar that it barely got away with last time it went there (on a less stressful calendar, with a FIA that was less complacent about safety).

As someone who works outdoors in the summertime: OP is very, very correct and heat is NOT a joke.
I would also like to add that beyond a certain temperature, cold water can genuinely be dangerous as a shock to your system. Roofers especially are often BARRED from drinking cold water, because going from nearly 40°C heat and then drinking something ice-cold can CAUSE ACTUAL SEIZURES.
Your best bet is lukewarm or slightly cool water, combined with wrapping an ice pack in some cloth and putting it on the back of your neck or tucking it into your belt.
And for the love of god if you have to go outside, wear BIG FLOPPY UGLY HATS as well as sunscreen. (Good Sunscreen. 60SPF minimum.) Sunburns retain heat and are Fucking Miserable on top of giving you cancer. Bad ones dry out your skin and can cause infections when you’re still sweating a lot and it gets into blisters.
Heat Stress is cumulative. If you are out trying to do the same thing Monday to Friday, something that you could manage on Monday is probably going to knock you flat on your ass on Friday if you don’t pace yourself.
If you’ve had any sort of heat-stress illness in the past, you are more prone to getting it again and more easily than someone who’s never had it.
For all of the northerners that stood up for Texas during our freeze and said, "Don't make fun of them, they've never dealt with this before. Their infrastructure isn't made for snow and freezing."
This one is for you.
Where I live 108°F with 80% humidity with no wind is normal.
Pacific North West is dealing historic best waves 35-40°C or 95-105°F.
First of all. Don't make fun of them for bitching about the heat. Just like Texas isn't built for a freeze and our pipes burst, Pacific North West isn't built for heat and a lot of their homes don't have AC.
If you live somewhere with a high humidity like 80+ HUMIDITY IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. The "humidity makes it feel cooler" is a lie once it gets beyond a point.
If you live somewhere with a lower humidity, misters are nice to cool off outside.
Once you get over 90°F (32°C) a fan will not help you. It's just pushing around hot air. (I mean if you can't afford a small AC unit because they're expensive as hell, by all means a fan is better than nothing).
If you have pets, those portable AC units aren't safe. If your pets destroy the outtake thing, it'll leak CO2. Window units are safer.
Window AC units will let mosquitoes or other small bugs in. Sucks, but that's life.
Now is not the time to me modest. If you have to cover for religious reasons, by all means. If you don't, I've seen people wear short shorts and a swim top. It's not trashy if it keeps you from getting heat stroke.
If you do have to cover up for religious reasons, look for elephant pants or something similar. They're made with a breathable material.
Shade is better than no shade, but that shit it just diet sun after some point. Don't think shade will save you from heat stroke.
I know the "drink your water" is a fun meme now, but if you're sweating excessively you need electrolytes. Drink Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialite PLEASE. I don't care if you're fucking sitting in one spot all day. That shit WILL save you from heat stroke.
Most importantly. RESEARCH THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAT STROKE AND HEAT EXHAUSTION PLEASE!
If you're diabetic and can't drink Gatorade, mix water, fruit juice, and either lite salt or pink salt
If you can afford it, cover windows with thick curtains to insulate the house
If you have tile floors, lay on them with skin to tile contact. If you don't, laying your head on cool counters works too.
If the temperature where you're at is hotter than your body temperature, don't wear heat wicking clothing. Moisture wicking is safe though.
Check your medication labels. Many make you more susceptible to sun and heat
-Room temperature water will get into your body faster. This is something I learned doing marching band in high summer in Georgia, and it saved all of our asses. Sip it, don't gulp it, especially if you're getting into the red; same goes for whatever fluid you're drinking. And just in general drink during the day.
-If you are moving from an air conditioned space to an un-air conditioned space, if at all possible try to make the shift gradual. When my dad and I were working outside and in un-ac houses a few years ago, he'd turn the air down to low in the truck about ten-fifteen minutes before we got where we were going. This way your body doesn't go from low low temps to high temps. S'bad for you.
-If you can, keep your lights off during the day. Light bulbs may not generate a lot of heat, but the difference is noticeable when it gets hot enough. I literally only turn my bedroom light on in the evening when it gets too dark.
Don't be afraid to just like... pour water on yourself if you need to. The evaporation will cool you off.
Put your hand to the cement for 15 seconds. If you can't handle the heat, it'll burn your dog's paws. Don't let them walk on it.
Dogs with flat faces are more prone to heat stroke. Don't leave them out unsupervised.
Frozen fruit is delicious in water.
Wet/Cold hat/handkerchief on your head/neck will help you stay cool.
Pickle juice is great for electrolytes! You can even make pickle juice Popsicles!
Heat exhaustion is more, "drink water and get you cooled off." Heat stroke is more "Oh my god call 911."

Seasonal Grass Cutting Heights for a Thriving Lawn
Your lawn’s overall health and appearance depend on many factors, one of the most important being the height at which you mow. Mowing your grass at the correct height for each season ensures your lawn thrives throughout the year. Whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass, the ideal mowing height will vary as the weather changes. In this article, we’ll explore the best grass cutting heights for each season to keep your lawn lush and healthy all year long.
Tumblr media
Why Grass Cutting Height Matters
The height of your grass plays a pivotal role in how your lawn grows, how much water it retains, and its overall health. Cutting your grass too short can expose the roots to stress, while cutting it too high can make it prone to pest infestations and difficult to manage. Adjusting the height according to the season is crucial for promoting strong growth and a beautiful lawn.
Spring: Encouraging Healthy Growth
In spring, your lawn emerges from winter dormancy, and grass growth starts to pick up again. The goal during this season is to promote strong, healthy growth that will support the rest of the year’s lawn care needs. By mowing at the right height, you can help your lawn recover from the winter and establish a solid foundation for future growth.
Cool-Season Grass: Mow at a height of 2.5 to 3 inches to give the grass enough time to grow back strong without cutting it too short.
Warm-Season Grass: For grasses like Bermuda and Zoysia, aim for a mowing height of 1.5 to 2 inches during the spring to promote faster growth as the grass comes out of dormancy.
Mowing Tip: Always mow your lawn when it’s dry to avoid tearing the grass, which can lead to lawn damage.
Summer: Taller Grass to Combat Heat Stress
During summer, your lawn can face stress from both the heat and drought conditions. Grass that’s mowed too short may not be able to retain enough moisture and can become vulnerable to heat stress. Keeping your grass taller during the summer months helps to shade the roots and conserve moisture, which is crucial for a healthy lawn.
Cool-Season Grass: Keep the height at 3 to 4 inches during the hot months to reduce stress and promote moisture retention.
Warm-Season Grass: A height of 2.5 to 3 inches is ideal for maintaining health and vigor in hot temperatures.
Mowing Tip: Water your lawn deeply but infrequently, and avoid mowing when your grass is wet to prevent compaction and disease.
Fall: Preparing for Winter
Fall is the time to help your grass prepare for the cold winter months. Mowing at the proper height ensures that your lawn is strong enough to endure the stresses of winter and allows for proper root development. A healthy lawn in the fall can also bounce back more effectively in spring.
Cool-Season Grass: Keep your grass at about 2.5 to 3 inches during fall to prevent disease and allow strong root development. This is the ideal time to fertilize to support root growth through the winter months.
Warm-Season Grass: For warm-season grasses, aim for a height of 2 inches before they go dormant in winter.
Mowing Tip: The last mowing of the fall season should be done before the first frost to avoid damaging the grass during freezing temperatures.
Winter: Minimal Mowing Required
In most regions, winter is the time when your grass goes dormant, and mowing becomes unnecessary. However, if you live in a mild climate where grass remains active, you may need to mow occasionally.
Ideal Height: If you are mowing during winter, keep your grass at 3 inches or slightly higher to protect it from the cold and potential frost damage.
Mowing Tip: Avoid mowing during extreme cold spells, as this can stress the grass and make it more vulnerable to injury.
General Mowing Tips
Don’t Remove More Than One-Third: Never cut more than one-third of the grass blade at a time, as this can stress the lawn and weaken it.
Sharp Mower Blades: Always ensure your mower blades are sharp to provide a clean cut and prevent injury to the grass.
Adapt to Lawn Conditions: Grass that is stressed or growing slowly may require slightly higher mowing to encourage recovery.
Conclusion
The ideal mowing height changes with the seasons to maintain a healthy lawn. Mow at a moderate height in spring, higher in summer to combat heat stress, slightly shorter in fall to prepare for winter, and leave the lawn to rest in winter. By following these seasonal guidelines, your lawn will thrive year-round, offering a lush, vibrant appearance for all to admire.

might be a little different due to my illness, but two strong signs for me are also bodily weakness- feels really hard to move- and ESPECIALLY being super super tired. like "hard to think" kind of sleepy, can't really keep your eyes open kind. if you also just recently ate and feel hungry really fast, that can also be a sign bc your energy is being used up.
I kind of refer to it as like an 'energy broth'- the longer you stay outside in strong sun/heat, the quicker your energy will be used up.
and it can happen fast too- I can step outside in 92° heat and in five minutes heat exhaustion has hit me like a truck.
please be careful and always check in with your body, especially if you've got other health issues. <3
