Just read vol 1 of Heartstopper and really, that was the book with so much controversy around it? It’s like Boyfriends all over again where it’s just a fluffy slice of life story that involves queer mlm relationships.

Like I remember when the show adaptation came out, people were repeating the same old/tired ‘women are fetishizing mlm relationships’ discourse. Some folks like mlm content better because they’re actually written like characters. They have proper story arcs. They’re not flat or dull. For others, it’s the way that they find out they themselves aren’t cis &/or straight. Also if someone’s using it to get their rocks off, that’s none of my business. Don’t want to know that, but ultimately none of my business. And all this above isn't even touching on the fact that one of the two main actors got pressured into coming out.

Don’t get me wrong, the writing’s not revolutionary but I still enjoyed it. Rated it 5 stars. But as a queer person in my 20s, have definitely gotten tired of the vitriol folks have towards fluffy queer stories.
