All through the month of February, we're celebrating our love of TMBD and/or the love of the characters for one another, with SHORT fics! They can be scenes. They can be vibes. They can be poems. They can be full-fledged stories! (They can even be art!)

Preferably short. So there's no pressure and it's easy to write and you don't need a full outline and a plot and all that!

However, if you do something long that's okay. There's no word limit.

Another addition to the Heartificial Condition Collection on AO3 from me…

Surprise, surprise! It’s Murderbot and Gurathin:

There was a pause, then he [Gurathin] said, I’m not your enemy. I’m just cautious.

I don’t care about your opinion, I said, and then immediately wished I’d put myself on a one-second delay so I could delete it. It made it sound like I did care. Which I didn’t.

I wondered: What if Gurathin actually has a one second delay coded already?

This is to have succeeded."

The 21st Century is now in the last of its teens and is approaching the long and ‘longingly-looked-for’ figure of “2020” – a number familiarly and fascinatingly associated with “normal vision”. But, what essentially matters is, what variety of life and world do we come to see with such a vision. For instance, the way nature is avenging the colossal destruction wreaked on it by humans, in full-blooded fury; the way history, in its own ‘right’, is ‘righting’ the ‘hoarded wrongs’ (particularly in such areas as caste, religion, race, gender, geography, language and political power) from “times long bygone”, with a vengeance; and the way technology is “lording over” human lives and destinies with prodigious ingenuity – would all today inspire nothing less dreadful than the spectre of ‘Atlas’ shrugging the human habitat off his shoulders, as if meaning to re-engineer its very motherboard.

Nevertheless, from an alternative perspective, a glint of hope assuredly and reassuringly becomes discernible in that very process of “re-engineering”. And why not? Because, who knows, maybe all these cataclysms are simply symptomatic of the advent of a Grand New Age; of the birth of an “artificially wise” techno-human species (homo artificialis sapiens technologicus); of the emergence of “genetically edited” omniscient geniuses; of the genesis of disease-free and even deathless hyperhumanoids, and whatnot? But then again, this (r)evolutionary vision will not prove all that cheery for the “mundane masses”, because they rather feel frightened out of their wits even as they begin to conjure up such exorbitant circumstances and the consequent certainty of their meekly losing their very basic struggle for survival.

Speaking of such futuristic features, how do you, for illustration's sake, fantasize coming face to face with “bionic leaders of republics”, “artificially conscious” automatons, or “cyborg supersouls”? What indeed would you say if Virtual Reality one day blots out 'factual reality'? Would it mean the ultimate triumph of “Maaya Vaada”, the Advaitin “Philosophy of Illusion”?

It’s pretty hard but yet quite fun (a la "20-Empty" cricket") to hazard a guess on the corollaries of ‘2020’ a.d. Had Einstein been around still, he would perhaps have twirled 2020 into M2X2 and whipped out a plausible, if somewhat arcane, prognostication.

Let’s hope that the oncoming “Geek Civilization” will engender “heartificial Einsteins” (droids with extraterrestrial cognitive as well as emotional intelligence) for the good of this planet, and that it will not decay into a technological “evilization” navigated by "silicon Frankensteins". Let us simultaneously also keep our eyes peeled on the ‘sky dome’ at 00:00:00 sharp on 01.01.2020 for any possible sighting of the ‘digitally encrypted’ script of Cyber CereBrahma about the next leapfrog in human civilization
