Since the wildfire smoke has been hitting the east coast, I've been thinking about doing a flowchart-style infographic on where to find US hazard information - so many of the comments on the info I posted were like "huh. I was wondering why the sky looked so funny." With the state of the Internet, search engines, and social media today, it really isn't intuitive where you can go to find reliable information on something so vague as "I noticed something a lil funky today," and so many of the platforms and accounts that emergency managers have spent years building up trust and visibility for have disappeared or become unverifiable because of Twitter's meltdown. Best to go to straight to the source when you can, as long as you know where to start.

This would just focus on the federal government, and mainly on immediate warnings and alert information...I'd rather just focus on natural hazards as well since those are the resources I'm familiar with, but that might be too narrow. Any ideas for questions and flowpaths besides what I've sketched out so far are welcome!

I'm advocating for a mandatory "social medias" course in middle school to include:

privacy laws and safety of sharing personal information online

recognizing troll behavior and when/how to report it, aka website literary

online etiquette such as knowing how to properly share photos, videos, games, within the framework of the law, how to make an approach to start a conversation

how to utilize block lists and filters curate feeds

how to write appropriate email correspondence

teach strategies for how to disconnect from harmful media that makes you upset

spotting the latest fake information, bots, and learning healthy skepticism of links

and lastly, educate on the importance of moderation and the value difference between recognition online with a number or a 'like' versus receiving irl positive stimulation such as a high five or a smile

I think, despite inevitable inefficiency of government education on these topics, this would be an incredible benefit to the children growing up online.

So my brain just generated this scenario for "why is Hazard like this":

They were raised in a bioweapons lab. And I don't mean they were there while other researchers did work I mean someone (probably shockwave) placed smol Hazard in this lab and promptly forgot about them for a few million years and eventually out steps Hazard who has learned how to make everything in the lab work but nothing about lab safety or social norms like not everyone is a potential test subject.

Ooooo, that's cool as hell! So Haz basically learned from utter trial and error in said scenario, and it's pretty sad in a way. Can you imagine juuuust beginning to exist and bam! You're left alone with a bunch of stuff that you have no idea what it does? Plus, that lack of social contact would definitely make a mech a nice amount of feral (after all look at tfp au Optimus who grew up in the wilds of Cybertron and even after all these vorns he still shows it)

In said scenario, Hazard likely grew up in an environment where everything alive they met was exactly a test subject, so it makes sense that even as an adult they're not the best at seeing the distinction between live specimen, enemy, and ally.

Plus, I place Hazard's creation date as being some point in the smack dab middle of the war, somewhere around the 2 MYA mark likely when the vast majority of the fighting was still on Cybertron and there were more resources to spare.

Everyone has very important lore stuff to ask, but I have the most important to ask of them own: is the tail in human form sensitive? what if, someone stepped on Talos or someone else's tail??

Very important question!! It's as sensitive as another limb would be. Stepping on someone's tail is pretty much equivalent to stepping on their hand or their foot basically

However, this also comes with the added fact that yoinking your arm away and swatting as a reaction and yoinking or swishing a tail as a reaction are very different. If you've ever been whipped by a large dog tail then it's like that but 10x as powerful.

In Talas' or Hades' case since they have huge tails at the very least they could sweep your legs out from under you and make you fall flat. In Graves' case it would HURT to get smacked by it bc their tail is pure muscle
