Did I ever show you guys my human ink design ,,
This is Inoa ! The second design actually - my friend and I both had this headcanon that Ink and Error are both Pacific Islanders and it gave me a lot of ideas for a design !
Like I thought it would be cool if the code ‘tattoos’ Ink had were translated into traditional Polynesian tattoos and his scarf could be turned into a lava-lava !
This art is really old but . I was just thinking about him so ..
I should draw him again when I get the time

(full article text under cut)
WATERPARKS
THESE POP-PUNK UPSTARTS HAVE CATCHY SONGS, AN ENDORSEMENT FROM THE MADDENS AND AN UNIRONIC LOVE FOR HAIR DYE AND FUNKY-COLORED JELL-O. THEY ALSO HAVE A LOT TO PROVE-AND THEY'RE READY TO GET TO WORK.
STORY: EVAN LUCY x PHOTOS: JONATHAN WEINER
Awsten Knight knows what you're thinking: This time last year, his band, Waterparks, were veritable nobodies. You'd probably not heard their two EPs (2012's Airplane Conversations and 2014's Black Light), and the band's SEO was likely so suspect, there's no way a Google search would place the Houston-based trio above their hometown Wet 'n' Wild.
What a difference a trip around the sun. makes. Since late last year, the group scored a record deal with Equal Vision, picked up Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden as their managers, performed at the 2016 APMAS and even graced the cover of AP's Warped Tour issue-all before releasing their first album. Along the way, they've cultivated a passionate (and ever-growing) fanbase, thanks to an irreverent sense of humor, insatiable work ethic and saccharine-sweet pop-rock sound. But as their star has grown, so have the rumors and confusion about just how they ended up on a collision course with success.
"I saw somebody online say, 'Isn't this that industry-plant band? Like we were made by a label or something." Knight remarks from Los Angeles, where he and his bandmates are putting the finishing touches on bonus tracks for their debut full-length, Double Dare, and filming a video for the album's first single, "Stupid For You." "People are always like, "Where'd this band come from? This band blew up overnight! That's really not the case."
Indeed, it's been a grind for Waterparks, who formed back in 2011 and, after years of hustle and hard work, got signed last year after a demo serendipitously ended up in Equal Vision's online submission box. Even today, as Waterparks—Knight, guitarist/vocalist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood-seem to have an indefinite amount of momentum and a limitless future, there's always some humbling experience to remind them the big time is still a few steps away. Look no further than their method of transportation for this summer's Warped Tour: a modified Sprinter van handily equipped with sleeping quarters- but no air conditioning.
"The van didn't have A/C until we got to the North, Knight remembers. "We did Texas and Florida, the whole South, with no A/C. People thought we were in a bus. It'd be like, 'Oh yeah, when you guys go back to your bus…" He laughs. "How can you be egotistical when you're sitting there in a sweaty van going, 'Fucking kill me?'"
Lifestyles of the rich and famous it isn't, but that's fine with Waterparks. They're used to surprising people, whether it's with their origin story or their music. A testament to both their artistic vision and desire not to be pigeonholed as just another pop-punk band, Double Dare sounds like an album made by three men raised in iPod shuffle culture. The album opener "Hawaii (Stay Awake)" skews toward more standard pop-punk fare (a sound that definitely provides a backbone for the 12 tracks that follow), but the band are quick to add bits of pop, electronica and (surprisingly) hip- hop to the melting pot, leaving Double Dare feeling instantly reminiscent, yet wildly unpredictable. There's the unabashed pop charm of "Take Her To The Moon," a DeLorean ride back to the scene's neon days that's awash in glassy synths; the biting "Little Violence," which takes aim at "fake-ass band guys," along with the now-defunct site AbsolutePunk; "Stupid For You," a roller coaster of vocal runs mixed with razor-sharp hooks; and the jittery "Dizzy," which combines mile-a-minute rapped verses with a towering half-time chorus.
Knight, a textbook over-writer, wrote and demoed more than 40 songs for the album, which the group whittled down to the 17 or so they actually tracked in Los Angeles with producers Courtney Ballard and Benji Madden. What makes Double Dare such an engaging listen is not just the songwriting, but the way Waterparks dress it up. Throughout the album, Knight's voice serves almost as a third guitar, cutting in and out and swirling around the mix to give things added depth and a secret sonic weapon their peers lack.
"Listen to Kesha," Knight implores. "People have heard a lead guitar a billion times-no one gives a shit about a sick guitar lead. What's going to sound sonically cooler to the average human: a lead guitar- which people have been hearing for the longest time- or the literally unlimited sounds I can cut my voice up into and make it [serve the same purpose]? It just sounds cooler."
As a teenager, Knight studied raps by the likes of Busta Rhymes and Ludacris (he even performed a cover of Fergie's "Fergalicious" at an early show), and he thinks it would be "sweet" to be in a boy band. "You have to stand out, otherwise there's nothing interesting about what you're doing," he explains. "We've always tried to do different shit. A lot of our songs are a pop-driven thing, but it's a band. Girl-pop, to me, is the best genre [in music]. Even if you don't speak English and you hear a Kesha song or a Katy Perry song, it's going to sound so good. The melody is everything: It sounds so happy. Put those songs next to whatever progressive metal band and their fucking guitar sweeps. That's the difference between being a band people like and being a musician's band. [Adopts nerdy voice] 'Oh, that time signature change, blah blah! No one gives a shit except nerdy dudes, and nerdy dudes aren't going to buy your record, anyway. I want to make shit my little sister and her friends would be into."
If Knight is that unabashedly honest about his musical intentions, the words he writes take it a step further. At its core, Double Dare is the antithesis to the public image Waterparks have cultivated over the years. From their irreverent music videos to any number of off- the-rails interviews (including some from this summer's Warped Tour where Knight donned a wedding veil), the band's public persona is that of perpetual Peter Pans. While that might be true (Knight frequently drops words like "butthurt" in conversation), the open-book nature of his lyrics here reveals life isn't all fun and feces jokes.
As such, the songs on Double Dare read like pages ripped from a personal journal. Whether he's dealing with crippling insecurity ("I wish I was as brave as my last name"), self-doubt ("And I'm doing all right/ But is 'all right' enough?/Because I'm living my dreams, but I live at home") or true love ("If you died, I'd hope you'd haunt me"), Knight's words are blunt, painstakingly detailed and instantly relatable. He might project as a court jester, but he's deadly serious about his art.
"There's a time when Awsten can be serious, and that's when he's talking about his music, Benji Madden offers. "In order to sell records or magazines, people feel like they have to be sensational or play a funny game. If you talk to Awsten about anything other than music, you'll get totally jokey, bullshit answers-which I love. But if you talk to him about music, he's a really smart, intentional, thoughtful guy."
"Being honest about it is the best way to go about it," Knight says of his songs. "I've never liked the vague lyrics, like, [jokingly sings] "I've gotta find my way. I've gotta get out of this place! All my favorite lyricists are killer with metaphors or are able to uniquely describe things. I like getting into things and being specific." He references the acoustic ballad "21 Questions," easily one of the album's highlights, but a song slated for the cutting-room floor until Madden stepped in. ("I feel like that song could be one of those scene classics," the Good Charlotte guitarist offers.) It's hard to imagine the album without it.
Outside of being a steady hand in the studio, the Maddens are the perfect mentors for Knight, Wigington and Wood. After all, it was 15 years ago that Good Charlotte went through everything Waterparks are currently navigating, claims of being a test-tube band and all. They've learned everything is cyclical, and they're passing on the lessons they learned to the bands they manage.
"They're so wise," Wigington explains in a separate interview. "You shut up and listen. They've told us, 'Hey, things are going to start getting weird. There will be things you haven't been used to, especially if you're out on the road! But they've told us to look out for each other and have each other's back and helped instill a sense of camaraderie so we can deal with whatever weird shit comes our way."
If their current career trajectory continues, things will be getting weirder and weirder in the Waterparks camp soon. The band have secured the opening spot on Sleeping With Sirens' fall tour, and they're already making plans well into 2017. With a new album ready and the furthest reaches of the scene at their fingertips, it seems like there's really no limit to how big this thing can get. It's already surpassed their wildest dreams in the past year; imagine what one more could bring. Not that it would change their demeanor, of course.
"I'd like to be able to live comfortably to the point where I could ride a bike into a swimming pool filled with Jell-O and have it not be a big deal," Knight says unflinchingly, when asked what success would look like for him. "I was thinking blue or purple because I like cooler colors. Red seems messy. Not yellow or orange, because I don't like those flavors as much. I used to be allergic to blue dye when I was younger, so I'd probably pick that just so I could be like, 'Fuck you." alt
#sorry i had to obviously edit the poster photo it's been yellowing from being on my wall#waterparks#awsten knight#geoff wigington#otto wood#i.zip#reading this and realizing they've become an antithesis to some things said here why why why

✨ @countlessrealities. meme. still accepting!
💖 he's a great boyfriend to have for someone that doesn't like fancy dates because he dislikes them too. like, he'll go to a fancy restaurant every blue moon for the novelty of it. just so he can turn to you and be like ' oh my god, isn't this the most ridiculous, pretentious shit you've ever seen? ' and make fun of the tiny portion sizes and stuff lmao. that's fun to him! virote's not the type for romantic getaways, either. i mean like... trips for the sake of them just being romantic. nah, boo, lame. he likes taking trips for the adventure of it ya know... to do some cool shit.
definitely not the type to go to a resort in hawaii.
anyway he likes easygoing dates! or interesting without being stuffy. how can he be comfortable around someone if the environment is too high class? just take him to a cuban restaurant with shitty lighting, like 4 chairs, nice ladies in the kitchen, and great soup.
💖 speaking of soup he's a great cook...!! if you tell him you're coming over you can expect like. fried dumplings, scallion pancakes, ginger duck, potato croquets, dried pot tofu… sachima sweet pastries… maybe he'll mix it up with green curry and papaya salad, too.
he reminds himself so much of his granparents on his dads side sometimes lmao because every time he calls his sweet lil grandma in chiang mai she asks ' have you eaten? ' and he does the same for his bf when he texts / calls then. it's a cultural habit.
💚 rly not fond of super sweet talk lmao... and i know that's a big love thing for a lot, but for him that's one of his least favorite gestures. like. he doesn't mind hearing that he's smart, pretty, that he's loved. but he can't deal with that ' ur my sky and sun and earth and everything ur the fire that keeps me warm id die without u!!!11 ' shit. he can't think of a more lame, desperate, airheaded thing to do lmao. that kind of overly-romantic shit makes the hairs on his arm stand up in a super bad way. it almost makes him feel like an object of worship and that's not what he wants in relationship.
like bro just tell him his ass looks great in leather jeans and that you think he's cool or something lgfjkgld. please be normal. the big thing for him is that in the end it feels like shallow grandstanding and peacocking around. meaningless.
schmoozy, overly sweet, hyper-romantic has room in the world! just not around him lol.
the fuck is that nonsense??? a slam poetry session? get outta here with that.
#🌙 ABOUT! CANCERIAN SUN SHINING IN THE EVENING.#countlessrealities#/ yeah he's just not for those that gotta be poetic about shit... lmao.#/ keep that far away from him.

Week 6- Required post 3
Maybe it's because I’m writing this before lunch but these images are making my mouth water. I can smell and taste them as I look and only wish that they could be here in my presence. These are all foods I consider my favorites from back home in Hawaii. The interesting part is each of their narratives as they all come from very different cultures. Listed in order we have pork adobo from the Philippines, jook from China, katsu curry from Japan, Hawaiian plate from Hawaii, and spam musubi also from Hawaii. This simple array of nostalgia for me perfectly displays the “melting pot” analogy Hawaii is always compared to. There are so many people who come from so many places that we all just get along and eat one anothers food. Food is a great source for community and some of these dishes perfectly communicate that (as they are fusions!). For example, the spam musubi, a dish of Japanese descent, managed to touch the hearts of almost every single family in Hawaii. No matter your race or ethnicity, every kid had a musubi in their lunch box. It was never embarrassing at home to have “foreign food” because all we ate was foreign. The beauty of Hawaii is not seeing divisions between people. Everyone is mixed, and everyone eats the same food. An open mindset starts with what you surround yourself with, and at home, I was lucky enough to be surrounded by a little bit of everything.

What to Eat In Hawaii and Its History?
Hawaii island is most popular for its mesmerizing sunsets, exquisite landscape, pristine beaches and extraordinary culture. In addition to this, you cannot miss the uniquely delicious food. In this guide, we will explore the food paradise and let you know what you must eat when in Hawaii.
You will easily find Hawaiian Food Chicago IL showcasing a mix of Hawaiian delicacies and international flavors. So, check out the top quintessential Hawaiian food that you should try and fall in love with.
Shave Ice
Shave ice is a wonderful Hawaiian treat that has more to offer than a simple snow cone. This Hawaiian delight is an ice-based sweet treat with a mountain of ice, flavorful syrups along with local ingredients. Thus, enjoy the cooling dessert as it's a perfect accompaniment for a hot day!
Loco Moco
Loco moco is a champion dish of Hawaii Island with many variations. This staple food consists typically of white rice in the base topped with brown gravy, a hamburger steak and a fried egg.
Poke
Poke is a delicious dish of chunky diced raw fish and vegetables marinated with local seasoning and dressing. This bite-sized fish salad perfectly compliments the tossed rice to savour.
Malasadas
Malasadas are not an original dish of Hawaii. It's a version of Portuguese doughnuts that early immigrants of Portuguese brought and later adopted by the locals of the island to relish. Whatever the history is, if you are a dessert lover, find no excuse to enjoy this ball of deep-fried sweet treat. The flattened sweet dough is deeply fried and coated with cinnamon powder and sugar. Sometimes, they have a filling of chocolates or custard or as it is to epitomize the light dessert.
Pot Stickers
One of the hot-selling dishes of Hawaiian Food Chicago IL is the Pot Stickers. These dumpling look-alikes consist of minced pork, ginger, and garlic along with other ingredients wrapped in a thin coat. These are then steamed and fried on the bottom to have a golden-brown texture.

@porkchop-ao3‘s questions:
What’s your favorite game of all time?
That is such a loaded question! I don’t think I can answer this definitively because there are so many different factors and aspects to consider, but the game that probably left the biggest impression on my life was The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It made me fall in love with open worlds and the story-telling potential of the medium.
2. How would you describe your fashion style?
Lately its just been sweatpants 😂. But I don’t know how to accurately describe it. A lot of high-waisted jeans and I wear Blundstones all of the time. I mostly shop on asos so my closet is a mix of romantic, vintage, and uk streetwear.
3. Favorite kind of candy?
I don’t really eat candy, but I am a slut for chocolate and caramel. Twix bars, Kit Kats, Ghirardhelli squares, I’m not picky!
4. What’s something that always cheers you up?
If I’m in a bad mental place, I often reach out to my friends. Otherwise, my cat 🥺 Sokolov is so sweet and very perceptive to my moods. He knows when I’m sad and will give me a nudge when I need it.
5. What was/is your favorite subject at school?
Computer Science and English. The creative side of me is naturally good at English, but I can’t deny that my brain likes the challenges and problem solving computer science provides.
6. Name a place you’d love to visit one day.
Hawaii 😭 it’s so expensive, but I’d love to do a cruise.
7. If you could live in any fictional world, what would it be and why?
Not to be a nerd, but... I think the star wars universe would be pretty awesome. There’s so many different worlds with colorful cultures and characters.
8. If you could make any fictional character real and have them be your friend, who’d it be and why?
Paravati Holcomb from The Outer Worlds because she’s precious.
9. What’s your favorite song?
It changes daily, but I can say that Lana Del Rey is one of my favorite artists and one of my favorite songs by her is Off to the Races👀
10. Do you collect anything?
Movie ticket stubs, postcards, fortunes from fortune cookies, sand from different beaches, pretty feathers.
@oblwans‘s questions:
Do you have a favorite song at the moment? What is it?
your teeth in my neck — kali uchis
2. What was your favorite food growing up? What is it now?
I used to eat so baddd when I was a kid. Cosmic brownies, those soft frosted sugar cookies, I loved sweet shit and my teeth paid the consequences 😂. I’ve calmed down since then, but ice cream will always be my favorite🥰
3. What’s your favorite board game?
That is a good question. Masterpiece is a really fun game where you buy and sell paintings that only you know the value of. Codenames is a great party game too.
4. Are you a coffee person or a tea person?
Definitely tea. It’s my coping mechanism to relieve anxiety and stress; it always calms me.
5. Are you an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert?
I’m pretty introverted. I don’t mind being social, but I look forward to my alone time.
6. What was/is your favorite subject in school?
Answered this in #5 above 😁
7. Where would your dream vacation be?
Roadtrip to Utah 🤠, that state is so beautiful and there’s so many national parks out there that look absolutely breathtaking. Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Arches, Goblin Valley, Dead Horse Point, I could go on. And there’s even more to see in Arizona and Southern California. I just love the desert 🧡
8. What’s the most complicated thing you’ve ever tried to cook? How’d it go?
I made this coconut chick pea curry with black rice and toasted coconut flakes and it actually turned out pretty good!
9. If you could wear one color for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Veridian is a lovely color that has a very rich jewel tone. I’d love to wear more of it.
10. If you were to open your own store, what would you sell?
Oh, to be a humble whittler and carve birds and woodburnings, selling them in a rustic cabin of a store. That would be a peaceful life indeed.
Thank you both so much for tagging me ♥ Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there🤗

The USA is the best place to visit in 2023
There is a magnetic power that pulls countless numbers of people to its shores. A broad region of islands and land stretches from the Aleutian Islands to the Panama Canal. This world's third-largest continent teems with character, charm, diversity, and stunning natural beauty. It doesn't matter if it's the streets of major cities like Toronto, New York, Mexico City or the priceless islands sprinkled throughout the Caribbean Sea and North Atlantic Ocean. Sunshine and snow. Organizable chaos is Continent-wide but divided by various cultures, ethnicities, and histories. Surprised? There is much more to North American tourism than just the United States of America. Therefore, be open-minded, expand your horizons, and look at the big picture.
Tralover offers tour packages to the USA from India. These packages are:
USA - East coast Tour - 7D & 6N
USA West Coast package - 6 Nights & 7 Days
USA - East Coast - 10 Days & 9 Nights
USA - West Coast tour packages - 9D & 8N
These are the few best tour to the USA from India
The United States of America has possibilities, hopes, and a promising future. This may be why so many people travel there to build themselves a better future. Every area of this country exudes a sense of potential. There are many undiscovered gems to be found in this mixing pot of political ideologies, ethnicities, and civilizations. Whether it's the stunning Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone National Parks, or its immense splendour. Sleepy and picturesque small towns coexist with an exciting big metropolis like Los Angeles, New York, and Las Vegas. Every type of environment is just waiting to be discovered, from the stunning beaches in Hawaii to the untamed wilderness of Wyoming to the icy slopes in Aspen. Given the size and diversity of North America, the optimal time to travel depends heavily on your destination. Mid-May to Mid-September is the ideal time to visit Alaska, while February through April is when the Northern Lights typically dance across Canada's Yukon Territory. Be cautious because Florida and other Southern areas experience hurricane weather from June to November. Travellers are urged to avoid the summer in the US since temperatures can soar, especially for hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts. March, April, and May are perfect for visiting places like Yellowstone (particularly for the bear season).

AQUARIUS - 14 DAYS AROUND AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
Visit the stunning outback region of Australia and New Zealand. In Australia, be sure to visit Alice Springs (population 26,000) and Uluru (previously known as Ayers Rock). In New Zealand, don't miss the Bay of Islands on North Island or Queenstown on South Island. You'll have time to explore this area by kayak or bike!

The Who? The What? The Why?
Most people see bucket lists as a ‘Top Ten Things to do Before You Die’ kind of deal. These lists tend to kick in around the 50-60 age group as the newly retired try to do avoid sitting at home and twiddling their thumbs while they watch the latest BBC drama and instead strive to go out into the world and do everything that they didn’t do “back in [my] day”.
Whenever I tell people that I have a bucket list I’m always met by the same reaction “you’re too young”, “what have you got that for”, “you haven’t even lived yet!” but none of this dissuades me. So here I am, a 20 year old University student with an ever growing bucket list of 143 items.
Growing up in fluctuating homes of Hawaii - England - Hawaii - England, I’ve been lucky enough to see quite a bit of the world. A big mixed Portuguese and Cypriot family has ensured that I was never sheltered from other cultures and always open to the bigger, the newer and the stranger. While my friends in Hawaii were alway satisfied with staying on our little rock I’ve always known that there is more out there, more to experience, more to be.
I guess that’s where this journey starts. My life has always seemed a mish-mash of cultures and people all as different yet as similar as the last. Ever since I was a little girl I never truly knew what I wanted to do with my life but one thing remained an undying constant: my love of travel, culture and the ‘New’.
Within these (digital) pages I wish to bring you all along with me on my journey through my various adventures around the globe. This won’t be the standard Trip Advisor-esque travel journal with recommendations and ‘oh no stay far away from here’, but rather a look into the ups and downs of my own travels from the personal perspective of a 20 year old girl living her travelling dream.
I hope to keep you entertained, and somewhat informed, as I detail my adventures from the cosmopolitan melting pot of Europe, to the tropics of Hawaii and the remoteness of Mongolia: and that’s only where I’ve gone already!
So please, bear with me on this very much ‘make it up as I go along’ journey as I combine my two great loves: writing and travel…

The bassist is an astonishing musical polyglot, having tackled Latin jazz on his previous disc, Con Todo, and now with his eighth album Cancion Tagalog, a cross cultural blend of Latin and Filipino traditions, he examines a breadth of Filipino songs he heard growing up on cassette tapes, as well as traditional songs and a few originals.
In the extensive liners Trinidad gives an exhaustive but pint sized look at Filipino history and its relationship with the U.S. which helps prime the listener for the music ahead. Rather than give a blow by blow analysis of the music it is more instructive in this review to mention how the bassist blends textures from around the world to create some engaging renditions of traditional and popular Tagalog repertoire. Like the previous disc, Cancion Todo uses a lot of Latin and Afro Cuban elements that are repurposed for these compositions; particularly attractive is the slow rolling percussion on “The Maiden of the River Pasig” and Kimwell Del Rosario’s violin which plays the sweet melody full of longing. The violinist never strays from melodic contours on the three cuts he contributes to. “The Flower Of Manila” makes intoxicating use of a 2-3 clave, later switching to a 3-2 clave, and the grooving rhythm section work powered by Trinidad’s montuno is enhanced by some choro vocals adding to the spices in the pot. The use of the 12 string or mandolin like octavina on “How Lonely Is The Midnight '' brings humor to the table with a quote of Monk’s “Well You Needn’t”. Raquel Berlind’s vocals provide some of the most memorable music of the album with her smoky, alto illuminating “Isle of Enchantment” and especially “My Country”, also featuring a muscular tenor saxophone solo from Reggie Padilla. After Berlind’s vocal the band shifts into a burning coda with a bembe rhythm and exciting percussion interplay. Padilla soars over the section using multiphonics and altissimo playing. Trinidad’s playing functions throughout the album as Ron Carter’s might providing a strong harmonic root for everyone to shine.
Sound:
Recorded in isolation in California, Hawaii and British Columbia, Cancion Tagalog presents a challenge not found in pre pandemic recording. Trinidad’s recordings (of which he recorded and mixed this album) are normally excellent with their juicy, but not overly compressed detailed soundstage, and that signature juiciness is also present on this recording. However, because of the remote recording circumstances, some of the details like the percussion often presented at the far ends of the stereo soundstage sound as if they were recorded on tape run through many generations. Recording through Zoom or a like program introduces compression artifacts that with the Schiit Bifrost 2 DAC working in tandem with a Marantz MM 7025 power amplifier, and Marantz NR 1200 stereo receiver as preamp, these details come through clearly. Also the highly resolving nature of the Focal Chora 826 speaker magnifies these sound issues. Raquel Berlind’s vocals on “Isle of Enchantment” suffer from some peak distortion; again as the result of being unable to have everyone record live in the studio at once. Still, through judicious editing Trinidad creates the illusion that these performances consist of everyone playing in the studio in real time.
Concluding Thoughts:
Chris Trinidad is once more successful at creating a unique cross cultural fusion. For those who may be unfamiliar with Filipino music this album could very well be the bridge that brings about further interest. He has a strong ensemble of players who bring about his vision, and the joy found in these pieces raises hope for what could be if humanity is represented at it’s very best.

May 25, 2017 BY PHILIP BERK
The more you think you know about Michael Fassbender, the less you know. When his jaw-dropping nudity in the film Shame had even George Clooney blushing, you figured he was the latest of a rising crop of new British faces. But think again. Before Shame, he had appeared in no less than 10 TV series, six TV films, and nine movies some which you might even have seen. But who knew? Then, there was that story book romance with Alicia Vikander, which he resolutely refuses to talk about, a relationship that seemed pure and innocent. But lurking in the shadows is a sordid episode with an ex-girlfriend who accused him of assault and battery and sought a restraining order against him. Even though the charges were later dropped and the two reconciled, no explanation was ever given. Another assumption was that he’s a tender-aged newcomer on the verge of greatness. But again, not so. He’s just turned 40, and he happily admits it. In London for the international press junket for Alien: Covenant, in which he again plays the android David as well as his alter ego Walter, he’s good-humoured and relaxed.
Now that you’ve turned 40, how does that feel?
It feels good and bad. I feel good about who I am, but bad about getting older.
How did you celebrate your birthday?
I spent it with my family and friends in Ireland. My sister arranged a surprise birthday party for me there, which wasn’t a surprise because she had to tell me, in order for me to be there. But it was cool, loads of friends, some of them I have known since I was five, and definitely a lot of friends from high school and stuff. So, it was great.
Where is your home base right now?
I gave up my flat in Hackney (London); so I have been homeless for the last two years, comfortably homeless.
Are you staying in hotels?
No I don’t like hotels. When we filmed in Sydney, I rented a really nice place that was home for four months. And that’s the same wherever I go; you just make that place your home. I just put food in the fridge, and that is it really. I don’t have a lot of possessions that I carry around with me, other than clothes. I like to travel as light as possible.
Is there anyone in your life right now?
That’s a question that really doesn’t interest me, to be honest.
Your mother is a very strong woman who started her own business. Is that the quality you’re looking for in a partner?
Don’t forget my dad. He did too. He’d be very upset if I ignored him. But strong women, yes, I always look for that. Self confidence, a good nature, good spirit, and a kindness I suppose, but definitely strength. Strength of mind and strength of spirit.
How do you handle negative criticism?
Sometimes I’m charming and sometimes I’m not. There’s nothing really I can do in terms of people’s perceptions of me or what they take away or what they talk about after a film. It’s kind of annoying when a film like Shame that has so much going on inside and all, and then all everybody’s talking about is the physical aspect of it. Maybe that’s more reflective of them as opposed to what they’re saying about me, but I was taught at a young age to treat people as you would yourself; so I try to be positive even if things around me aren’t.
What traits did you inherit from your parents?
Definitely stubbornness, which I attribute to my father, but a good work ethic from both of them. However, it was my mother who introduced me to the films that really inspired me to want to be an actor; so maybe artistic taste comes from my mother’s side.
When did you first realise you wanted to be an actor?
When I realised I’d never be a musician even if I practised quite a bit. I just knew I didn’t have it. So, I started going to drama classes. I had no idea about drama or acting, or that it was an avenue I could go down. There was no drama in the high school that I went to. But a past pupil had come back from the Gaiety (Theatre in Dublin, Ireland), and he set up these acting comedy classes. I did two or three of the classes, but then he stopped doing them. And when I saw him in town, I said, “What happened to the classes? I was really enjoying them.” And he said, “Well I’m setting up a professional company in town so why don’t you come and join the group and work with us part time?” And I did. And from that moment on, it had me. I knew that that’s what I wanted to pursue
How old were you at the time?
Seventeen.
On your down time, what do you like to do?
I like speed. Not the drug but the sort of sensation. So, I try go-karting whenever I can. It helps me meditate a little bit. I also like to go on bike trips on my motorcycle. When you’re on a motorcycle, there’s something cathartic about that, something sort of cleansing about it. I’m trying to learn how to surf. That’s been interesting even though it’s more floundering than surfing. But I also find it to be quite cleansing, being in the water and trying to harness the ocean.
Where do you do that?
There’s various places like the south of France. I’ve tried it in Brazil, Australia, Hawaii, various places, wherever the ocean is. I like to travel. That’s something I take great pleasure in, seeing different cultures and going to different places.
Would you like to return to a life where you were not as famous as you are now?
I wouldn’t want to go back at all. No desire to do that. I enjoy my life now. I enjoy acting, it’s my passion. It’s what I love doing. I consider myself very lucky to be in the position I am now. It doesn’t bother me if I’m sitting in a corner café or in a bar and get interrupted. That goes with the territory; doing what I love doing far outweighs any of the negative stuff.
If it ended tomorrow, would you be able to give it all up?
Absolutely. I think one thing that human beings are great at is adapting. And if for some reason I didn’t have the opportunity to do it again, knowing I’ve had eight great years, terrible as that might be, I could still set up a little pot on the side of the street and do street theatre and live with that.
What do you want out of life?
At this point in my professional career, I want to continue telling good stories, I want to continue learning, I want to continue working with people who inspire me and hopefully the audience. That’s really it. It’s that simple. And then in terms of life, I want to be around people that I love and be a positive influence on them.
Do you have any morning rituals?
Not really, I just come on set and get ready, rehearse it and go through it and come back and do it. While they’re setting up the lighting, I nap. I am pretty good at power napping. But no real rituals, I don’t drink coffee. Tea maybe.
If you have kids, what would you like to pass on to them?
I would be happy with just health. Health would be a good thing. Blue eyes would be good. Depending who has the other eyes in the mix.

Third Culture Kids Have No Place To Call Home
The born identity crisis of being a global citizen.
I have always related to Nelly Furtado’s iconic I’m Like A Bird, in which she says, “I don’t know where my soul is, I don’t know where my home is.” On some level I believe everybody wonders where they truly belong. But none probably so much as my tribe: The Third Culture Kid (TCK). Our identity issues aren't common – they don't come out of adolescence or quarter life crises. We're a product of over exposure to the world.

Third Culture Kids – with my brothers in Mumbai
In our inner circles, we refer to ourselves as ‘international school brats’. We are the kids who, from a very young age, spend years living in foreign countries. We are usually the by-products of our parents’ occupational demands. These occupations range anywhere from diplomatic services, to employees of multinationals, artists, and military personnel. How I personally qualify is that in my early years my father was in aviation, therefore I sometimes jokingly say that I was pretty much born on an aeroplane.

In magical Bhutan, one of my favourite places in the world
Since the age of five, I have lived and been educated in five different countries, and attended international schools. I was born in Delhi, raised in Bombay and Singapore, moved back to Delhi, then to Hawaii, back to Delhi, on to Switzerland, London, New York, and back to Delhi. Every school I attended was a melting pot of international students from all over the world. Occupational relocation aside, travelling extensively with my family and friends for holidays was a staple part of my schedule. By age eight, I could differentiate between languages such as Korean, Japanese and Mandarin, tell Swedish from French, and German from Russian. I can claim to have interacted with someone from every continent at some point.

Baking classes at finishing school in Switzerland
We are a unique blend of international culture. Some clues in identifying us are - Our accents change depending on who we're talking to. We slip foreign slang into our English. We get nervous every time a form needs us to enter our 'Permanent Address'. It maybe hard to tell who we really are, but we know our kind. We relate. No, we're related – a sort of extended family of culturally confused mixed mutts. So we are the poster children for identity crisis, right?

A Halloween celebration at a London nightclub
I remember coming across an internet forum specializing in TCKs. It read,“there are three basics all children need: belonging, recognition and connection. For TCKs, these basic needs are ripped away with each move; the issue is that transition always involves loss, loss always engenders grief.” Therefore it was only too obvious that the reason for my identity crisis was my unresolved grief of having to move around my entire life, and that was the reason I was ‘too American’ for my Indian friends and family, ‘too desi’ for my ABCD group, and ‘too confusing’ for my London school mates.

At a 4th of July celebration with friends in New York
A few years ago I returned to New Delhi (my parents primary residence) where I had spent a large part of my adolescent years, and worked on building a life here. I had never felt more mixed emotions in my life. I went through every loop on the emotional roller coaster and back. From having my pronunciations made fun of, to my Hindi abilities being constantly questioned, to also being admired, and often sought after for travel advice. I have experienced it all. I went through phases of running back to England and the USA for months on end, only to return to India for wedding season, because it’s the ultimate addiction (I can safely say no one does it quite like us). Again, I blamed this internal instability on my TCK syndrome, and constantly pacified myself with ‘it's because I don’t really belong here or there’.
But then I noticed something strange. I met people who had never left their own neighbourhoods, but seemed to have the same cross to bear as me - an identity crisis. While I was confused about what 'home' was, they were confused about who they were. Purpose – that was their confusion. I realised it was mine as well.

Cheers to the journey, not necessarily the destination! In La La Land, California!
I had been blaming my constant 'uprooting' as the cause of my identity issue. The real problem was my lack of purpose. When this notion set in, I questioned who I was deeply. I realised, I was someone who wanted to use my personal capabilities to better the world around me. I was watching Oprah the other day and I heard her describe purpose as the “thread that runs through your life that connects the dots”. I realised, Writing – that was my thread. It's the one thing I would do, wherever I was. Previously I simply had not recognised it as my purpose.
As the years go by, my travels haven’t subsided, but writing has created a sense of normalcy in every environment I’m in.
My contribution to this world – that’s truly who I am, no matter where in the world I may be. Find your purpose, and find yourself along the way. And layoff constantly questioning the accent, please?

Thank you for tagging me! This is so exciting!
I get really fascinated in certain topics. I was interested in the Devil, space, and Japan. Right now, my fascination is with the Korean language and culture.
I am mixed. I’m so mixed, I’d probably have DNA from everywhere if I took the Ancestry thing. My grandpa is the only one “Pureblood”, and he’s German. My mom is biracial.
I used to write fan-fics before pursuing my own ideas. I had one or two original ideas when I was young, but I only followed after one until I moved. Now I’m focusing on this story this time.
I write fiction. Usually it’s fantasy/SciFi, but it can be other types of fiction depending on my idea. @tamara-vonb has more information about my current WiP.
I like writing for other people, so I have a lot of fan-fics in the waiting section. I had to put it all on hold for my novel. I don’t mind. Once my first draft is through, I can let it wait and go back to my fan-fics.
I crochet! I love to crochet. I’ve made about 3 scarves, 2 “pot holders”, and I’m working on a blanket. I’m a visual learner, so I love off YouTube videos for how to crochet the different types of chains. I don’t understand the instructions or patterns. Just show me the type of chain used and the rest is history.
I’m pretty introverted and shy unless we’re talking about something I like or I know you. You can definitely come to me if you want to talk though. I need to work on talking more often if I’m to publish my book and get it known.
I love rock music. And K-Pop. You can give me any suggestion for those two genres. I may be slow to follow up, but I definitely will. Maybe I’ve heard of them!
I live in America, and I’ve lived in two states. I’ve been to different states. I think about 10. I’ve been to Hawaii! It was amazing! We found tiny crabs in the sand.
I’m a big HP and J.K. Rowling fan. I love reading the series, and I love whatever she creates. I have a Fantastic Beasts journal, which I keep my writing things in it, and I have my Slytherin outfit. And a poster! That’s all I have so far. I plan on getting more.
I shall tag @pixel-letters, @sirilikestowrite, @howboutjusttrash, @theliteraryarchitect, @cog-writes, and @red-moon-witch.
10 Facts Tag
Got tagged by @pheita a while back and got the courage to actually write any about myself. Wish me luck!

During the holidays, it’s easy to be inspired in the kitchen. There are cookies to be made, family members to entertain, and leftovers to transform into day-after stews and sandwiches. But then comes the gray month of January, when it’s easy to fall back to takeout meals and sad desk lunches.
Cooking at home is one of the surest ways to guarantee that you and your family are consuming nutrient- and flavor-dense meals. So don’t let January get you down. We’ve rounded up our favorite helpful and healthy cookbooks from 2019 to gift your favorite athlete—even if that happens to be yourself.
‘Aloha Kitchen’ by Alana Kysar ($21)

In Aloha Kitchen, Kysar pays homage to Hawaii’s unique culinary style—a melting pot of Hawaiian, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, and other cultures’ cooking—while also giving credit where credit is due. Kysar isn’t Hawaiian, but she spent her childhood years living on the island of Maui. Each recipe is accompanied by an intro explaining the dish’s origin or importance to Hawaiian culture. Many of the recipes, like ohole fern salad and poke, focus on fish and vegetables. But meat eaters will also find plenty of options, including a savory chicken jook (rice porridge) and herby Portuguese bean soup.

‘Ruffage’ by Abra Berens ($35)

This hefty cookbook’s subtitle says it all: it’s “a practical guide to vegetables,” perfect for those nights when you find yourself with a mangy mix of legumes, peppers, and squash and no idea what to make with it. It’s organized alphabetically, and each vegetable gets its own section with purchasing tips and the best basic cooking techniques to use, including braising, grilling, or pan roasting. Ruffage won’t be the cookbook you flip through to quickly find dishes for a dinner party, but it’s a great resource for beginner chefs, featuring a helpful glossary of cooking terms and recipes meant to be adapted and tinkered with.

‘The Ultimate Instant Pot Healthy Cookbook’ by Coco Morante ($30)

Morante’s cookbook is loaded with quick and healthy Instant Pot meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many of the recipes refreshingly call for accessible ingredients like frozen peas, Babybell cheese, and canned chickpeas, saving you a trip to the grocery store for that one hard-to-find spice or grain. The large-batch quiches, soups (we like the Greek lentil), and chicken dishes are great for busy families or athletes looking to prep meals on the weekends.

‘Sababa’ by Adeena Sussman ($35)

Tel Aviv–based freelance food writer Adeena Sussman’s new cookbook is both a celebration of fresh produce and a comprehensive guide to Israeli cooking. There are plenty of healthy yet flavorful dishes for the adventurous cook. Try a creamy shakshuka loaded with mixed greens for a weeknight dinner, or make a pumpkin stew with homemade couscous on Sunday to enjoy all week. Recipes for spice blends like dukkah and condiments like honey harissa will help elevate simple dishes like scrambled eggs or yogurt.

‘Every Day Is Saturday’ by Sarah Copeland ($30)
(Photo: Courtesy Chronicle Books)
Low-key recipes and beautiful photography will inspire even the most timid chef to start cooking. Many of the dishes—spaghetti with bacon and soppressata meatballs, Mexican polenta bowls—are crowd-pleasers, but what we liked most about this book were the handy tips and intuitive layout. “Get ahead” notes flag the prep tasks that can be done days in advance, making life easier on busy weeknights. And instead of intermingling tricky recipes like spinach pie or gravlax with easy lifts, Copeland relegates the labor-intensive stuff to the back of the book.
