Jimin's choices

After reading Beyond the Story and learning more about the culture of Kpop, I think Jimin's promotions were exactly what he wanted. I'm talking specifically about the few weeks he spent making music show appearances. He walked the exact path debut-Bangtan walked in the beginning which were the music show performances, Music Bank, Inkagayo...achieving a first 1st place win on those music shows...and appearances on variety shows. Jimin actually won two 1st place wins.

To us OUTSIDE the Kpop world, it all seemed charming and yet expected that he'd want to perform on Korean music shows for K-Army. That was one of the primary reasons for going that route but at the same time he dutifully paid important homage to the expectations/standards embedded in Kpop culture in order to lay down that first stepping stone in his solo career.

At the time BTS debuted, companies were reluctant to keep spending money on producing a group if they did not show these progressive and specific steps.

Perhaps recalling the strong reactions from the kpop world to debut-BTS, Jimin was sensitive to those still waiting for a chance to criticize anything he did. Sometimes wounds leave lasting scars that still twinge now and then.

So Jimin paid his dues as a debut solo artist and gave a respectful and decisive nod to his Kpop idol roots. He earned a rightful place in the eyes of anyone in that industry.

The Billboard #1 was perhaps an unexpected win on top of all that. The #1's on all of the other charts: also extra on top. STILL dominating in his own country.

And now he's moving on. His next step will be bigger. He's coming for you AMAs, BBMAs, Grammys. I can feel it. Let's get it.

There are things that happened (or didn't happen as people wanted them to) surrounding Jimin's album. I am on board with that. But until Jimin says what went down himself, I won't be flying the "company mistreated him" flag. Mistakes? Yes. Incompetence? Perhaps. Shortsightedness? I definitely think so. Online streaming platform manipulation? Sure looks like it. Western music industry sabotage? Absolutely without a doubt. But his own label maliciously cutting him off? No.

Jimin is my bias and I want him to have everything he deserves and I am going to trust that he knows how to handle his own professional career and he does not need my intervention. If he's not happy with something, guess what? He can call Bang PD and tell him what's what. None of us can do that. Let Jimin handle it.

My first impressions of OnS characters

Vampires

1) Lest karr

🔹️I thought he had half-black half-white hair and I'd have described him as "Cruella de vil lil tyrant boy with hitler software" at first💀

🔹️He's adorable and mad respect for his red hair dye for holding onto dear life and not blending with his white hair and turning some of his hair light pink like Krul's (gon be his worst nightmare💀)

2) Urd Geales

🔹️Definitely has the intimidating aura, His first panel in the manga was literally him staring into my soul, I had the same expression as the ballerina girl who was dancing for her life infront of him, I could feel her internal fear💀

🔹️I like how he's stern but forgiving and doesn't blame others for their shortcomings

3) Ferid Bathory

🔹️The very first OnS character I saw, He seemed like a sly merciless overlord at first glance which he exactly is however I'd have never thought he'd turn out to be a silly goofball with daddy issues- 💀

5) Mikaela Hyakuya

🔹️That one kind hearted friend who'll always sacrifice for those they care for, I was a lil sad when he died, I was genuinely shocked when he appeared in ep 4 alive and as a vampire my face fr went 👁👄👁

Boy oh boy where do i even start. Honestly it's always hard to pin down my favorite characters across all the fandoms cuz I've consumed a LOT of media,but I'll try to name the current ones (warning, i am such a basic bitch this list is gonna predictable afffff. Probably.)

10. Ai Hoshino (Oshi no ko)

Ngl if you ignore most of the weird shit that happens in oshi no ko, it is such a goddamn captivating story, Ai in particular. Idk i guess i really like the idea of this "ultimate idol" who is a pathological liar (due to honestly unfortunately circumstances) having to maintain this picture perfect image, to the point where people don't even perceived her as a real person. And it's really tragic considering all she ever wanted to is to actually say "i love you" and mean it for once.

9. Killua Zoldyck (Hunter×Hunter)

Was he start of my obsession with white haired characters? Nah, but he definitely contributed. Honestly, sassy brat with a soft spot that can absolutely fuck shit up? Yeah there was no way i wouldn't have been obsessed with Killua the second he got introduced. Honestly i like Gon almost as much, but i prefer moodie baddies to sunshine characters. I would genuinely dedicate another 10 hours minimum to talk about him, but i don't think ppl will care enough to read so yeeah

8. Sunset Shimmer (MLP)

I wasn't really in the mlp fandom, so i have no idea how Sunset was perceived initially (i would assume negatively, but then again idk) so i am going off of the fact my lil sisters used to haTE on her in the first movie, but MAAAAAN I LIKED HER BITCHY SELF EVEN BACK THEN. The former star pupil of princess Celestia???? That left to another world cuz of her own hubris???? AND SHE'S PUNK ROCK???? I mean she got redeemed and joined the main six and all, but overall, probably my favorite mlp character (still mourn the bitchy attitude tho, in that regard i prefer Starlight but i digress)

7. Sans Undertale

I mean. Yeah. I already said I'm basic as fuck but like. At least i don't wanna fuck him. Anywaaay, i guess it's the air of mystery to this seemingly chill guy, who just hangs around and tells bad jokes and somehow aware of the timelines more than the rest, probably related to Gaster in some way, and maybe he's not even a monster cuz monsters don't bleed and he fucking does, what does this all mean TOBY FOX I NEED ANSWERS- and he has arguably the best fight in the entire game, so yknow. Cool guy

6. Gwen Stacy (Spiderverse)

I liked her in "In to the Spiderverse" but i absolutely loved her in ATSV. Her struggles and mistakes felt so real and I'm so glad they decide to focus on her this film (the opening sequence dead ass my favorite scene in the whole movie) and explore her backstory with Peter's death and her father, it's just adding the depth to a character that was already great just UGH chef's kiss

5. Tooru Oikawa (Haikyuu)

God he has such a slappable face, i love him. I knew from the second when the fangirls screamed, i would either hate him or love him. Every scene he was in, he served (pun intended), he slayed and made me cry. I know decent junk of the fandom are avid Oikawa haters but they can honestly suck my dic-

4. Osamu Dazai (Bungoe Stray Dogs)

Goofy ass detective with a dark past, homosexual rival and who's also a suicidal maniac? Yeah this was tailor made for me. Can you tell i have a type because i definitely do. I just really like mfkas with slappable faces. I am a sucker for redeemed bad guys, who are now try to be good cuz 💫reasons💫. AND i am also weak for mentor apprentice trops (Atsushi/Dazai shippers back off, i bite and definitely have rabies)

3. Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Speaking of my obsession with white haired guys. Yeah, I'm not sure what can i even say that haven't been said abt this guy and reasons to love him (fuck u gege) honestly will i ever stop loving side characters who are often silly mentor figures, with lots of baggage, a gay rival and too much angst? I can only say one thing.

2. Maomao (The Apothecary diaries)

Istg all u people who never watched Apothecary diaries I BEG U TO WATCH IT PLSSSS IT'S SO GOOD. Even if you don't watch anime, i promise you this show is absolutely worth the time. Maomao is what happens when you write a good no, GREAT female character without the whole anime bs. Like???? She has her own strength and weaknesses and she doesn't need to be physically strong (full offense, marvel) or be "not like the other girls" to be great.

1. Kaveh (Genshin impact)

So uhhhh, you can really blame Will Stetson for this one. I genuinely couldn't have cared less about genshin or this random blond if it wasn't for "Writing on the Wall". It started with a banger ass song, and ended with arguably my favorite character in all of media ever. I think one of my favorite things abt Kaveh, is that compared to some of the other characters in genshin, he's really just a guy. Like bro missed the entire archon quest, mfka was just minding his own business. He is tortured architect and honestly bro has taken so many Ls in life it's kinda crazy. And well the fact that he has "a roommate" just adds more to him. Gay rival and all

Aaaaand that's 10 characters. Honestly i wouldn't call it my top 10 favorite of all time. I probably forgot some of the characters that i used to be obsessed with at some point. I just picked the ones that came first to mind :3

Favorite character: Hisoka Did y'all hear something? Sounded like someone said Hisoka but not me ahaha. Uhhhh Killua and Komugi are my answers, honorable mention to Kite as well (guess I just like the white haired characters lol. Oh and really all of the Phantom Troupe but especially Chrollo is so much fun.

Favorite arc/episode/scene: Favorite overall arc probably is York New but a lot of my favorite moments come from the Chimera ant arc, so I would tie them. Fave episode/scene I think is Meruem and Komugi dying together, I cry every singe time lmao

Character I think is underrated: Ikalgo is the guy of all time, I love that stupid ass octopus so much lmao. I don't know why but I find him so heartwarming and I want to cheer him on in every scene

Character I think is overrated: Hmm I'm really struggling to answer this actually. I feel like I'm on the same wavelength with the general consensus of the characters. Maaaaybe Kurapika just a teeny tiny bit? I'm doing a slow rewatch with a friend though and she is a fierce Kurapika hater lmao so I feel like I'm being influenced.

Fave ship/pairing: Going to be basic but Killugon, honorable mention to Hisoka/Illumi

Something I love about the series: I think the character journeys and parallels are so so so cool, and it's a great example of character development where it's more of a regression (with Gon, specifically). The parallels between Meruem and Gon where they start on opposite ends, and by the end Meruem has gained humanity and Gon has lost it? Gets me every time. Also just such a great cast of characters, picking a favorite is kind of hard when I think almost every character, even the hateable ones, are just so solidly written.

Yona of the Dawn

Favorite Character: Hmm three way tie I think between Yona, Soo Won, and Jae-Ha (wow now thinking of it, he's kinda like Sanji huh....I was set up lmao)

Favorite arc/episode/scene: Gosh I need to reread because my memory is god awful but off the top of my head, Zeno's backstory is obviously the best in the series, and I think was animated in an OVA so that's my fave episode lol. Also love when Hak and Yona FINALLY get together, and Soo Won reuniting with Hak as well.

Character I think is underrated: You know what, I'm saying Jae-Ha!! Everyone's fave dragon is either blue or yellow (which, like, I GET it) but nobody gives enough love to green dragon :( People hate him for flirting with Yona but it's so obvious to me that he's just doing that to tease Hak lmao. But he has SUCH a big heart and loves and wants to protect all of them, again I need to reread to really elaborate properly but!! He needs more love!!!

Character I think is overrated: Hmm. I don't think I have an answer for this one actually.

Favorite ship/pairing: Yona/Hak....are we surprised...I'm not....

Favorite thing about the series: I feel like I give the same answer for all of these lmao because I'm such a big character reader, but yeah the characters absolutely. They are (well, most of the time) the ones pushing the plot, not the other way around. Everyone says it but Yona's arc as a character is just so so so good, especially for a female character. I would also say I really love how the worldbuilding goes so hand in hand with the characters developing and also understanding where they come from in decisions. It's a pretty simple fantasy world but it just does everything right.

(I'm a fake fan and haven't finished MP100 Season 3 :( And my memory is the worst on this series but do know that my fave character is both Mob and Reigen)

I was watching this documentary Discovery+ made on Taylor called Taking On Taylor. Surprisingly, it wasn't a detailed fanwork of her success. (😭😭)

But I learned something new from it - the Shake It Off controversy. Now, I never knew about that because 1. I don't really care much about the celebrity news, 2. It was mostly in headlines in 2014, back when all I cared about on TV was Doraemon, and 3. Swifties don't really keep things like this on spotlight for long enough to get into our heads.

So, I learned that there was this hit band of Black girls back in 2000, 3LW. They released their no. 1 hit song in 2000, called 'Playas Gon' Play.' Their chorus had the first two lines them playas gon' play, them haters gon' hate.

And the composition of chorus of Shake It Off is really similar to that one.

So, they sued her. For copyright infringement. And it became a big controversy because these were just popular slangs at that time and no one has copyright on words like players and haters. And even the judge ruled that their lyrics were not special enough to be stolen. The lyrics of a no. 1 hit song. And even if it wasn't, you don't say that to an artist!

Now, we all know how Taylor is known for her exceptional songwriting skills. It's hard to believe that the lyrics, the most highlighted lyrics, of one of her greatest songs of all time might be taken from someone else. But when you are a minor artist, and think that some popular mainstream artist is taking your work and not giving you credit, you fight.

And that's what the 3LW have been trying to do for years. They are fighting because they don't believe that the lyrics of both the choruses are so similar. They filed a lawsuit again in 2019 and then both the parties just dropped it for no apparent reason in December 2022. No ruling was made no party won no statement was given. Just like that, it was forgotten.

But that wasn't what the worst thing for 3LW was. They just wanted to meet Taylor one-on-one one time and have a conversation about those lyrics and they would have dropped the lawsuit either way. All they wanted was to get a perspective of hers without the media attention but she never agreed to meet them. And that was what hurt them the most. The least she could have done was talking to them personally.

But if course, we know it's all not that easy. There was a lawsuit against her and anything she might've said could later be used at the court and all of that lawyer shit.

But the fact is - the lawsuit was dropped in 2022 and 1989 TV was released in 2023 and she could have vaguely made a statement or even given them credits but she didn't.

I'm not saying it would have been easy, because both sides are right in their own way. But something could have been done.

So little backstory, I've never written anything before I started writing fics on here. I was inspired by a writer on here when she was making some daughter marvel fics. so I've never taken classes or really written anything else. I'm a music technology student so I play music and write songs but that's really the only other writing I've ever done??? And that's not flexing on my 'natural talent' or anything like that because I am DEFINITELY NOT the best writer on this app or fandom or whatever, but I have noticed a few changes I made when writing and presenting my work so here are those things.

I know the relief and excitement you feel when you finish a story and you can't wait to put it out BUT there could be a lot of mistakes (grammar, format, etc) and it'll be even BETTER once those are fixed. I used to do this exact same thing for so long and I'm actually slowly (sneakily hehehe) going and fixing some things in my old popular ones.

PUT CORRECT WARNINGS ON THINGS ESPECIALLY IF UR LIKE ME AND WRITE AND ANGSTIEST AND SADDEST SHIT EVER.

Also a thing I've noticed recently is that when I started presenting my fics in an aesthetically pleasing way it drew more people in! I had gotten compliments on the mini mood board when I started to use those instead of just photos.

Also if you're just starting out...WRITE WHAT YOU WANT. Don't let anyone give you any shade or crap for saying 'no' to writing a fic. This is YOUR WORK. Work that you're not getting paid for and doing simply because you love it and the people/characters/world surrounding it. I love taking requests, especially now when the writers block in starting to come in again, but please remember you have absolutely no obligation to write something you're not comfortable with. And you don't even awe them a reason! If you're uncomfortable or eve if you just don't want to! You don't owe anyone anything.

Lastly you might encounter hate, usually its inevitable... I've been very lucky to be surrounded by the best readers and anons, but sort of continuing to what I said previously, the block button does exist !

So in conclusion lol

format it correctly in a way that looks digestable and fun! sometimes simple is best

fix any grammar mistakes, I know some people who run it though chat gpt and tell them to not change anything, just fix spelling mistakes and small things which is smart

put correct warnings

you don't owe people shit !

A 2 Year Reflection

July 2021 - July 2023. 2 years.

2 years, and one hell of a ride later. I sit contemplating all the changes and memories within the last 2 years. What would the David of 2 years ago think of the David now? Or how would the David now think of the David of 2 years ago. Many things changed about me, physically, emotionally, mentally. This is just a little piece about everything that I’ve learned over the 2 years.

My life in Singapore can be broken down into a few distinct phases. Pre-NS, Recruit and Trainee Life, Unit Life, and finally, ORD Life. It’s quite a general break up, but it is how most guys would describe their NS journey as well. There are stories and lessons learnt during each phase in my NS journey, stay a while and dip your toes into my memoir of my NS life.

My NS starts unlike many others with the initial enlistment. No, my NS story begins pre-enlistment. I arrived back in Singapore, on the tail end of COVID-19. I was given 1 week after my graduation to report back to Singapore, and there I was.

Lesson 1: Mental Health Here’s lesson 1. Mental Health, something I was really struggling with at the time. I’ve since developed, probably, very different views on it now than back then. I was still very much set on getting over a girl and determined to only message her once a month, just to check on how she was doing. At the same time, I picked up a part time job at a ramen store in downtown. It was a combination of messaging her more often than I promised, the lack of sunlight in that basement kitchen, and exhaustion in general that led back to a relapse in mental health issues. I took some time off work, to recover and quit a month before my enlistment date of 050122.

During this period, I was probably still much like a kid. I got a brief taste of what working life was like. I did feel like I brought different views to the friends around me at the time, maybe due to the fact that I lived overseas. As a person, i probably would hate who I was back then. But all in all, pre-enlistment life was one of freedom. Although, maybe too much freedom can become, itself, a vice as well.

The transition to Recruit life on tekong resort, although not terrible (due to my personal PES Status) still came with its own troubles.

Lesson 2: Not everyone will like you, and you shouldn’t give a fuck anyways Yea, I said it. Dude, there will always be haters, whatever you are doing. Maybe someone doesn’t like your face, maybe they think you’re too attention seeking, maybe they’re just racist. it happens, fuck you gon’ do about it. It’s just a part of life, whether the other person is jealous or what not, there will always be haters. Even more so if you are excelling and a certain part in life.

I faced some racism in the fact that I wasn’t seen as a chinese person, or a singaporean, more specifically. There are some that shun you for having lived your life overseas, and that you aren’t one of them. Yea, shit happened. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world.

Lesson 3: Build your own connections This one’s important. Even thought there were people in my same section in BMT that hated my guts just caused I lived overseas, there are people that are also curious about you. Not everyone is an asshole, you’ll always have at least 1 friend, you just gotta find out who they are.

BMT kinda threw me into this weird environment where you gotta learn how to make friends. You survived only by being able to make friends and help each other out in times of need. It forces you to use your social skills to survive. Without a unified section, you would all suffer.

Lesson 4: It is what it is, suck thumb and carry on I learned a bit of this lesson at the tail end of my BMT. I was appointed Platoon IC. Whilst the position of appointment was only supposed to last for a week, mine lasted for 3 whole weeks. Why? I have no clue.

Platoon ICs are in charge of carrying out and disseminating information to the rest of the platoon. Although it is seen as a position of authority, if you or your platoon fucked up, it’s on you. I was appointed close toward the end of BMT, when all of our high keys had already been completed. What does this mean? Well, people don’t really give a fuck anymore. It was a tough time getting people to cooperate with me in counting stores and all that cause it would’ve been free time otherwise. But this takes it back to lesson 3. That group of connections you built, they’ll help you out.

My Trainee life was split into 2 main phases. Security Trooper and Navy phase. My Trooper phase went by quite smoothly although, to the end, there was an important lesson I did learn... 

Lesson 5: Physical Health is important Throughout my BMT, I didn’t really take physical health too seriously. I did a lot of cardio, but nothing serious in terms of weight training. I managed to lose up to 5kgs due to the fact that camp food was inedible and that we did cardio only. I suffered from serious back pains then, due to only training chest and arms back in my high school days. The muscle imbalance caused severe back pains through BMT and IDTI life. I’d always blamed it on a disk herniation back in my Volleyball days. One of my specs suggested it was muscle imbalance and that I hit the gym to build a stronger back.

I never really took that too seriously, although I did start hitting the gym and climbing with some of my BMT section mates in April (end of trooper phase). Things were smooth sailing until I got to the second part of Naval Training.

Lesson 6: Stop being a lil Bitch This one’s a fun one. My naval training phase wasn’t easy. Naval culture had it’s methods of breaking down individuals more so than army did. There are many stories that I have that contributed to this experience, however, 3 main ones stick out. 215 turnout, Tests, and Turnout test. Within the span of 1 month, and these three events, I grew to develop a stop being a little bitch mentality.

These were by far some of the toughest times during my training phase. Studying 16 hours a day (wait did you just say study??? yes, yes I did. These tests weren’t easy fr), sleeping in a room not knowing when an ear piercing alarm would go off, and all the hazing that we went through after it did go off. Although I must say I was quite thankful for the experience. It had helped me develop a mindset and brought me closer to my batchmates and senior batch as well.

Lesson 7: Being a teacher It’s often said that every man should have a mentor, equal, and mentee. My NS followed a similar structure. It wasn’t long before the next batch of juniors came in, and it was our turn to take over in the training of the junior batch. Teaching the material was not only more mentally straining than studying for it, it was also more physically straining. Zavier and I would spend the whole day in the ops room teaching our juniors. Teaching was more than just imparting the knowledge that had previously been given to us, it was also about building a bond with those that were under us as well. It was more than just, write this, read this. At the end of the day, We managed to get them through their junior phase and into the next.

Along came Supervising batch. I took upon myself the responsibility of doing morning duty at the main tower. Maybe it was because I was there that the xinjiao might not have been able to learn as quickly, but what’s done is done. I would come to learn that taking a step back may be what is necessary in crucial times.

Lesson 8: Everything is worth trying, at least once Everything is worth trying once. that’s what I believe. I used to say “I’m not a clubber and never will be”. “What’s so fun about loud music and jumping up and down”? Well, I found out what was so fun about it. I really enjoyed clubbing, and I still do. Maybe it’s because I have obsessive type of personality? But yea, if I didn’t try clubbing, many things in NS would’ve probably gone differently. So try everything, even if it’s just once. You never know what might be your thing.

Lesson 9: Stepping up to the plate Supervising batch was pretty smooth sailing, but I was selected to take over as the next 2IC, and for an extended term at that. I would say that my 2IC term was relatively smooth sailing at the start as well. However, I would say that I did learn a few things during those times. Leadership skills was definitely one of them. I needed to discover myself as a leader. What type of leader I was, or wanted to be. We all dealt with our own individual problems as leaders within the unit. I won’t go into details of what issues I came across during my term, but let’s just say, some people are dipshits and I had to learn to work with that.

Having stepped up to the leadership role and completing my duties faithfully, it was finally my turn to step down from the military life style. With it, I would learn a lesson that I would not be able to fix.

Lesson 10: Taking a step back/Letting go I’ll admit that I’m honestly quite passionate about serving in the military, after all, it did teach me many lessons. One of these lessons I only learnt recently. After completing my duties, it was time for me to take a step back from all of it. Not having to go into camp as much, not needing to be there for the platoon, letting the next generation of soldiers step up to their respective plates. At the time, there were some changes made to the standard operations, to which I got quite furious about. It was a change to activation that would greatly slow down our timings. Although I wanted to maintain the same timing for activation, I had to learn to take a back seat and let the next generation fend for themselves. For me, it was about letting go of that passion and look forward to the next phase in my life.

It’s been one hell of a ride for sure. So many ups, so many downs. It was fun though. All the experiences I had, the friends I made, food I ate. Was it worth the 2 years? Yea, I’d say so. It was well worth the 2 years.

[Story Time!]

Pedro felt a different kind of rage when he saw his precious nietos on the ground, barely clinging to life. A kind of rage he didn't think he could experience. He was usually a forgiving and kind man, at least he liked to think so. He believed everyone could be forgiven and could ask for forgiveness. That they could have a second chance. But after this? Now he wasn't so sure.

These people, this group. They had attacked his precious grandchildren. That he had only known for a year and a half. They were his light, right next to his own children. And now they were scarred, for life. Had it not been for Mirabel's gift, they might not have suvived long enough for anyone with Julieta's food to get there. He thanked God that the little golden butterflies that followed her around had closed them up, at least to stop the bleeding.

So yes, Pedro was upset. This group, these people had attacked them. Because they had some personal business with Pedro. Apparently 2 of them had been closely reallted to the soldiers that struck him down, and somehow managed to rally other Madrigal-haters. The eight sick bastards had lured the kids into the woods and they attacked them. They slashed their throats and left them to die. Left them in such a state that may have been worse than Pedro's when he was struck down. He didn't think he'd be able to get that image out of his head. And now he was here, in the nursery, watching over his six grandchildren along with his wife. The children had been moved to the nursery, for the sake of being able to keep them all in the room at once. Once they had recovered more, they could go back to their rooms.

Pedro held his exhausted wife, who had spent the last 3 days tending to them. She herself hadn't really gotten any sleep, because she was far too busy watching over her nietos, praying that they wouldn't suffer the same fate as before. It was too soon, and they were too young. They didn't deserve it, they didn't deserve this. They were the sweetest kids, which is why neither grandparent could wrap what had happened around their heads. Why did they attack the kids? Was it because they were vulnerable? Because they were innocent? So mamy questions and yet so little answers. And Pedro hated it.

And to add insult to injury, they had found out that their throats were ripped beyond repair, especially Mirabel's and Dolores'. Horrible damage had been done. Mirabel was still young, so her gift wasn't as developed, and therefore couldn't fully repair the wounds, or restore their vocal chords back to their original state. And Julieta's gift had damn near brought them back to life---in turn there was now a scar on each child, and it haunted Pedro's mind. They were too similar to the one that was spread across his chest. It was a constant reminder for him and his amor.

He lifted his hand, and a golden glowing butterfly had landed on his hand. But it wasn't one Mirabel's butterflies, no no---those had settled down around the small girl, her siblings, and primos, next to Antonio's jaguar, who had taken to staying near them at all times. It seemed almost as if the jagisr felt...sorry. And as for Mirabel's butterflies, they were dim, and slow. This one, Pedro's butterfly was the largest by far, taking up a large portion of his hand. Its wings fluttered softly and Pedro's eyes narrowed.

"Find them. Mark them." He whispered and the butterfly was off.
