Life in Tartosa went on as usual for the Carlisle household as Frideswide’s eighteenth birthday approached later in the year. 

While Satoshi celebrated his eighteenth birthday by getting together with his neighbor, Tess. Which should have been where it ended but two weeks later Tess arrived and revealed that she was pregnant so the two quickly married before the news would reveal their impropriety of conceiving before marriage on April 27th.

Parnell also welcomed a daughter-in-law into the family that April and the next month, Quentin’s step-daughter married a man from Parnell’s hometown named Nikolai Upton. 

Terric’s daughter Yura became a toddler and was loved by her parents, Aunt and Uncle. 

Florence was expecting again but had come to realize that she wasn’t happy being a mother to the child she already had and decided that not only did she not like motherhood, she wasn’t a fan of pregnancy either. One way or another, she was going to make certain this was her last baby. In the meantime, she was happy to celebrate her mother-in-laws fifty-third birthday.

Also rarely post about music, but I listen to a whole lot of that, so some of my favorite artists are: Gangpol und Mit, Death Grips, Mr. Bungle, Hakushi Hasegawa, Death's Dynamic Shroud, Machine Girl, and Aphex Twin... I also like a whole litany of Literatures, especially 'weird fiction' as a genre, and specifically love Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer a lot because yeah. AND I enjoy animation in general; for animated movies in particular, my favorite is probably Paprika & just Satoshi Kon's stuff overall...

Maria and Alton had been eagerly awaiting the arrival of their new baby. Maria felt it was a bit odd having new baby when she was newly a grandmother but she did miss having a baby to care for and when her labor began she was excited to be a mother again. Except that excitement wasn’t to last. 

Maria’s excitement turned to fear as the labor was complicated to the point where Maria’s health was at risk and after quick but careful deliberation it was decided that Maria’s life was the priority and the midwife removed the obstructing child which resulted in her death. They had decided on naming the child Helen if it was a girl but there was little time to mourn when it became clear that there wasn’t one baby on the way but two. Their second daughter was born healthy with little trouble but they hadn’t thought of a name for a second child and decided to think about it once the midwife left. Later that night Maria collapsed and died from what was later to be determined as severe bleeding from the birth. In her memory, Alton named their daughter, Marieta. 

Adrian was shocked to learn about his daughter’s death and granddaughters birth. He couldn’t help but worry that all of his children were going to pass before him as he now only had three living children left. He decided that if he managed to get his potion done that he would spend more time with his living children no matter where they were but for the time being his family close by was deeply important to him.

William and Satoshi had their birthdays though considering the recent events, it was bittersweet. 

Margaret’s granddaughter, Constance celebrated her sixth birthday as well but it wasn’t much of a celebration as Sybil was not the motherly type and was more glad she didn’t have to care for a toddler anymore than she was about seeing her daughter grow up. 

July brought with it news that Parnell Jernigan had married a man named Hobart Faba though she wasn’t too keen on staying in Mt.Komorebi. She had wanted to leave the place so much of her family had died but she also didn’t want to leave teenage brothers to fend for themselves. She felt rather resentful of her mother’s death that she was left in charge of her siblings to care for when she was still a teenager herself but she still cared for her siblings after all and was determined to convince her husband to leave once Terric was an adult at the soonest. 

After her cousin had gotten married, Frideswide officially became a teenager herself.

However, the inspiring response of Japanese citizens helped play a significant role in neutralizing the attacker and limiting the tragedy's scope. The attack At around 2:30 a.m., Satoshi Uematsu, a former employee at the care home, broke into the facility and gruesomely killed 19 disabled residents as they slept. He turned himself in at a nearby police station shortly after, admitting his crime and presenting a bag of knives. The heroic response The killer turned himself in, presenting little resistance. Still, it was the courage and swift decision-making of local law enforcement and citizens that helped stop the attacker. A young female caretaker called the police after Uematsu showed her images of the killing on his phone, prompting immediate action. Numerous citizens who heard about the incident that morning also showed up at the care home to show their support, providing first aid and helping the victims escape. One particularly significant example of bravery came from a 77-year-old man named Kiyoshi Matsuda. Matsuda, who lived near the care home and worked part-time at a nearby factory, heard the sounds of screaming coming from the facility. Without hesitation, he rushed to the home despite the risk to his own life. He eventually encountered the killer on the ground and helped hold him down until police arrived. Another brave individual was Ryo Hasegawa, a 23-year-old firefighter who had just finished his nightshift and was on his way home. Upon hearing of the attack, he immediately turned back and rushed to the scene. Arriving well ahead of the police, he helped evacuate those in the building still alive and assisted the critically injured until additional medical care was available. How Their Actions Helped The courage and quick response of Japanese citizens played a crucial role in neutralizing the attacker. Their actions helped provide support to the victims, which would have been in peril due to the killer's violent intentions and the rapidly flowing reports of the massacre. Moreover, it helped limit the number of casualties, allowing for a better recovery and healing process for the community. Conclusion The horrific tragedy that occurred in Japan in 2019 was shocking and left many wondering how something like this could happen. Still, it is the brave actions of the Japanese citizens that provide hope and bring light to the situation's darkness. The heroics of the many residents and first responders are an excellent example of how, in a world where negative narratives dominate news cycles, everyday people have the power to act for good. By highlighting these heroic bystanders' deeds, we can recognize the courage and positive impact that everyday people can have in emergencies and personal crises alike.
