Earlier tonight, @emmavakarian-theirin asked me what I thought Gale's love language might be, outside of anything magical. My immediate response was

TOUCH.

Don't even have to think about it. Picture - Tav and Gale walking through a marketplace, his hand on their lower back, gently keeping them close, holding hands or interlocking their pinkies. If they're in the tower (or wherever home might be for them), he's got his head in Tav's lap while they read, or they're sitting close enough together that their legs/knees/feet just barely touch. At night, even in his deepest slumber, Gale knows when his love has scooched away from him and he immediately snuggles in closer, his arm not keeping still until it finds the familiar warmth of Tav's waist or chest, his leg draped over theirs.

And I think it's because Gale was so desperately touch-starved. We can only imagine what his relationship with Mystra was like in this regard - did she keep him at arms' length? Or did they snuggle together while reading whatever tomes interested them? Regardless, after the orb nested itself in Gale's chest & Mystra banished him, he was alone. No one to really talk to or hug. No one to lay with when the nights got cold and lonely. A year is a long time to isolate yourself from nearly everyone and everything because you are literally a walking time bomb.

So Gale has some lost time to make up for and I absolutely think it's the primary way he makes sure Tav knows he loves them.

Rewatching S1 episode 6 - the stabby one

So - if we see Stede stabbing Ed as a (sexual) metaphor that brought them closer together - and of course they became a couple later in the season...

Then Izzy stabbing Stede and breaking off his dagger is a metaphor for Izzy rendering himself inoperable - and he does, when he finally opens up and gets closer to Stede in S2.

From Ep5 on, Izzy and Stede get friendly really quickly and by Ep7 it seems they actually talk more openly with each other than each of them manages to do with Ed.

And then Izzy dies - because of Stede's plan and specifically Stede's idea of taking Prince Ricky hostage.

I'm not saying it's Stede's fault of course, but he did put Izzy in that position (presumably - we don't hear the plan, we just hear the end of it: "So, that is the plan. We all live to fight another day!" 🤨 Stede is talking, everyone else is listening. Nobody thought of removing Ricky's gun).

Of course there are some problems with this analogy (Izzy wanted to kill Stede much more than he wanted to "stab" him in S1), also the jury is still out on Izzy/Stede in S2, but I think it's a nice symmetry anyway if you don't take it too seriously ;).

How there's no way a company supplying mouthwash that was okay sending 5 people in a ship with 4 non functioning cryo-pods is coming back to save anyone. A company that did announce that it was laying everyone off and shutting down 20 years ago to boot. The cryo-pods were formality and nothing more.
