In the animated series Harvey Girls Forever! Dot (voiced by Kelly McCreary) is a character and friends with Lotta and Audrey. She is a science whiz who enjoys robotics and a fashion expert. Dot wears a blue shirt, purple leggings, blue shoes, and blue earrings. if you have a particular trope(s) that pop up in all your stories, do you make a conscious effort to make sure you're writing it differently every time, or do you let it become its own version as you go, or do you not really care because you love this trope and you'll just have it the same way every time? (this is of particular interest to me)

Hmm, usually I'm sated after I explore something once. Not in a "I did everything I could ever image for this" way, but in the way that my brain will forever associate that concept or trope with the story and my characters, and what can I say, I'm sentimental. I don't move on. (So there'll never be another Aspect of Lies for me, or another creature born in the pulse of the universe thinking it can hear its wishes intimately and going crazy, aka the Beast of the Deep Night.)

If something does happen, though... it's no matter what I write, space ends up in it. Though it's not a conscious effort (it just won't sit right with me internally and thus not pass if I feel I'm repeating myself. I'm allergic to that), space looks different across my wips. There's 'quiv's night, which is a very intimate place for the angels and regarded with tenderness and grief, then there's AoS's (Aberration of Sunlight) dead space, which is all boundlessness like you'll fall forever till you hit the end of time, and feelings of insurmountable loneliness and cold and fear. And then there's another night in a cowgirl fantasy setting I have, and there it's your more traditional divination space, full of signs and omens and "is there something out there talking to me?". I guess I'm a huge space nerd🤣

And for the sake of making this lil analysis complete... there is a trope, or rather, a character trait, that I never change🤣. That's having an obligatory grumpy ass in my wips. They're just so much fun to have around. But yeah, I guess that's their core characteristic, because otherwise we have the grump who's angwy and emotionally constipated (the Mother), the grump who's cracking deadpan jokes all the time and actually has so many things he wants (Lieutenant Hahn, AoS), the grump who's uber intense and will walk barefoot on scorching sand and never complain (Noa, in High-Noon Saturnalia, the cowgirl wip), and the grump who's actually a grump medic because people are just generally idiots and he's actually very nurturing (Irma, Infinity in Five. I have 4 wips now by the way🤣). I don't wanna think this means my core characteristic is being a grump... but the dots are connecting themselves😭😭

So, overall, I always let my stories take the reins. Bear in mind that I'm a "once is enough" type of girl, but if it happens... I'm not going to go out of my way to deliberately change the trope so it doesn't recognize itself. I know from experience that never works for me. Sincerity is very easy to glean from writing.

One Dress a Day Challenge- Part Two!

Anything Goes December

Dorothy Tuttle in Meet Me in St. Louis, The Harvey Girls, The Pirate and Summer Stock

OK, so I decided to mix it up for my final entry in this challenge.  Today, I want to highlight the career of MGM contract player Dorothy Tuttle.  

The reason for this is, she is a background actor that I would notice while watching these movies...I’d watch The Harvey Girls and go: “Wait a minute, wasn’t she in Summer Stock?”  And then I’d see her in Meet Me in St. Louis or The Pirate....so I’ve decided to highlight her looks in some of my favorite movies!

The orange dress she wears in Meet Me in St. Louis for the party scene is one of my favorites...I mean, just look at the detail...the embroidery, the ruffles, the puff sleeves...it’s gorgeous!  And the pink and cream outfit she wears for the Trolley Song is really cute, too...I love her hat!

For The Harvey Girls, she wears the uniform for the majority of the movie...but like all the other actresses in the opening, she gets a beautiful travel suit, with a white eyelet shirt waist and orange and black coat.  She also has a gorgeous dress for the dance sequence, but there are no decent photos of her in it.

She gets her most iconic moment in The Pirate, wearing a really cool Spanish-inspired dress with a black and white polka dot top that’s way off the shoulder with those huge puff sleeves.

And then in Summer Stock, she gets to wear more contemporary looks with 1950′s styles.

I also want to highlight some other iconic movies she appeared in during her career: Marie Antoinette, The Women, Ziegfeld Girl, Show Boat, An American in Paris and Singin’ in the Rain (which was her last film).  She was also in a movie called Ladies of the Chorus, which was the film that gave Marilyn Monroe her start in movies.  All uncredited...which is why it took me forever to find out what her name was.

It is so incredible the things she got to do and witness in her career.  She sat next to Judy Garland while she sang The Trolley Song, she got to watch Gene Kelly tap dance, she saw the beginning of Marilyn Monroe’s career.  She was in movies with William Powell, Norma Shearer, Lucille Ball and Fred Astaire.   I have to say, if I had worked in Old Hollywood, and I couldn’t have been a “star”, I would have wanted a career like Dorothy Tuttle’s.  What a legacy.

Harvey Girls Forever! Movie

Jest to kontynuacja serialu, ale nasi bohaterowie są teraz nastolatkami i uczęszczają do szkoły średniej. Film będzie opowiadać o Audrey - wspaniałej chłopczycy, Dot - niesamowitej geniuszce oraz Lotcie - słodkiej siłaczce. Ta ostatnia, będąc samodzielną dziewczynką, wraca do pamiętnego miasteczka z dzieciństwa i spotyka swoje przyjaciółki. Jednak te dwie (Audrey i Dot) z jakiegoś powodu mają złamaną relację i coś się u nich zmieniło, a Lotta widząc to postanawia pogodzić je. Wszystkie trzy dziewczynki również planują wygrać w konkursie piosenek. Spotkamy również innych znanych nam bohaterów (Richie Rich, Melvin, Fredzio, Oczko, Lukrecja, Tyci, FruFru, Gerald, Chevron, Zoe itd.), oraz poznamy nowych (James - pomocny chłopak, Katie - konkurencyjna dziewczyna, Ash - mała reporterka).

This is a continuation of the series, but our heroes are now teenagers and attend high school. The film will be about Audrey - a wonderful tomboy, Dot - an amazing genius and Lotta - a sweet strong woman. Lotta, being an independent girl, returns to her memorable childhood town and meets her friends. However, these two (Audrey and Dot) have a broken relationship for some reason and something has changed in them, and Lotta seeing this decides to reconcile them. All three girls also plan to win the song contest. We will also meet other known characters (Richie Rich, Melvin, Fredo, Pink Eye, Lukretia, Tiny, FruFru, Gerald, Chevron, Zoe, etc.), and meet new ones (James - a helpful boy, Katie - a competitive girl, Ash - a little reporter) .
