#Haru is ace

Haru is asexual! It totally makes sense!

Because I'm always screaming that "the colors mean things," I truly believed that Aki and Haru were in love with each other when I watched the first movie, Let's Eat Together, Aki & Haru, even though they never kissed or explicitly stated that they loved each other, so it's odd to have people upset at depictions of sex in some BLs yet have others dismiss this couple because of the absence of intimate affection when I never doubted they loved each other.

I don't believe there is one right way to love; therefore, there isn't only one correct way to present love, so to have Aki and Haru's love unfold the way it did in the second movie when I always believed they did love each other was a surprise I wasn't expecting, and now I'm in my feels!

Aki is a yellow-coded character, so he is naturally loud, joyful, and far more courageous than Haru, but he is also cautious. Aki knows how he feels about Haru, but he hasn't said anything because he doesn't want to disrupt their life together. He sees these feelings as a burden he doesn't want to place on Haru, so instead, he keeps quiet because it's easier to love Haru silently as he has been doing rather than disturb the peace they have.

Which is why I loved that Haru was the one to broach the topic regarding how important they are to each other. Haru is blue-coded. He is honest but reserved and comes across as impersonal and aloof at times. Yet he specifically tells Aki that his life is warmer because of Aki, who, once again, is yellow (and orange) coded.

Haru didn't correct Aki at the gallery when Aki made that claim, but this has clearly been on his mind long before Aki made the comment. Haru lingers by the kitchen doorway while Aki cooks. He drinks a beer to calm his nerves. He stops and restarts the conversation several times as he struggles for the right words. They have been going along for two-thirds of this movie with Aki keeping quiet and Haru not having the words to say anything, yet here he is finally saying what he has been wrestling with the entire time all because he is so bothered that Aki doesn't realize how significant he is in his life.

He stated in the first film that he wanted to live his life with Aki, and he reinforces that during this conversation by adding that he doesn't just want to live his life with Aki, but he never wants to part from Aki. They aren't just living their individual lives next to each other, but they are living a life, together, with each other. Haru's life is Aki's and Aki's life is Haru's. There is no distinction between the two. They cannot be parted.

Which pushes Aki to finally confess.

But it's not a confession of how much he loves Haru. It's a confession of what he believes to be a betrayal. He thinks Haru wants his best friend around, yet he won't want him around once he understands that Aki is in love him.

Aki sees himself as a liar who has betrayed his friend's trust, so he believes Haru will hate him.

And this is why I think Haru is a great example of ace representation, specifically demiromantic asexuality. He pauses to mull over what Aki has said. He lets the word "love" roll around in his mouth for a bit. Then he simply concludes that it all makes sense. Aki loves him. And that totally makes sense.

Earlier when Haru's sister stopped by to tell them she was marrying her high school sweetheart, Aki was excited to hear the details, but Haru told her she could stop as he was uninterested in the conversation. However, he did offer up that it was by time that they were getting married as if it was a logical step in their relationship. In the first movie, he also wasn't too invested in her relationship troubles when she mentioned she has to do all the cooking and cleaning, and he immediately responded that Aki is amazing because he cooks while Haru cleans, which is a key point in their living arrangement, and even though Haru is resistant to touch, he allows Aki to put his head on his shoulder when he cooks for Aki, so now that he knows Aki loves him, it makes it easier to live their life together. It's logical.

Aki has worked it up in his head that Haru would hate him because Haru seems perfectly content with the way their life is as best friends, but Haru, the boy that blends their colors together and wears green, stated earlier in the film that he liked Aki just the way he is and hoped that Aki found a job that would allow Aki to be himself. Haru could never hate Aki because he loves him.

And that could never be wrong because everything about it is so right. It all makes sense.

Haru doesn't realize he is love with Aki because Haru doesn't associate any of the things his sister (or Aki) connect to love with what he feels for Aki. His sister wants someone to share her problems. His sister cooks and cleans. His sister goes places with her other half. Aki and Haru do that stuff all the time, so it makes sense that Aki would believe he is in love with Haru since these are apparently the steps to get there. Aki can be in love with whoever he wants to be in love with if these things are the basic foundation for that but at the end of the day, Aki is spending his life with Haru cooking and cleaning, and now that he confessed that he is in love with Haru, it makes sense for them to stay together, as they are, doing things that couples do.

But after spending an entire day together on another date that Haru now realizes is a date, he comes to the logical conclusion that he loves Aki too.

Haru went to the aquarium with Aki because he knew Aki was trying to make him happy. Haru got a futon for the kotatsu because Aki wanted it. Haru didn't want to go to England because he didn't want to leave Aki. But Haru also has a specific way to eat a burger, so he can get a bite of each component at once unlike Aki, who just goes all in. Haru has to cut off the stove before giving Aki a hug unlike Aki who can just go for a hug whenever. When their friend was squealing in the kitchen after Haru plainly admitted how much he cares about Aki, Haru didn't see why she was so excited. Haru is diligent, which all their friends point out, so he needed time to think about "love." It makes sense that Aki, with his emotions and courage, would be able to know he was in love with Haru since they do things that couples do, but Haru needed to understand that he does, in fact, love Aki too, but he doesn't express it in all the ways he thought he needed to in order to consider it love. So just like him admitting Aki gives his life warmth, he tells Aki he loves him now that he has the words.

Haru is ace. He didn't consider that him doing all the things he did for Aki were because he loved him. He did them because he wanted to do them for Aki. But once Aki confessed that he loves Haru, it made Haru reevaluate what love looks like, not only for him, but for them. If Aki can cook and occasionally clean for him because he loves him, doesn't that mean that Haru also cleans and occasionally cooks for Aki because he loves him? If Aki never wants to be away from Haru because he loves him, wouldn't that mean that since Haru wants to live forever with Aki that he loves Aki?

Aki is yellow, loud, and goes all in, but Haru is blue, reserved, and needs logical steps. They are different, yet they love each other in the same exact ways. Haru just needed a bit of time to understand that. But now that he does, his whole relationship with Aki and the feelings he has toward Aki make sense.

Because *they* make sense.

Together.

AU time again!! Welcome to the Human Experiments AU

a crossover/fusion between P3 and P4 where Ren was involved in a severe accident that left half of his face severely burned and most of his lower body as well, where Ren underwent experimental surgery to counter the pain and ended up an android after multiple treatments.

Ikutsuki, somehow surviving the events of P3 and endorsed by Shido and his shady government, was given the chance to experiment on children they knew had the Potential, turning them into human Anti-Shadow-Weapon hybrids because he has no access to any of the Kirijo research and items anymore. His experiments are successful on two subjects (Ren and Goro).

Because of the severity of the 'treatments' (i.e. human experimentation), the persona suffer negative feedback as well, though Ikutsuki isn't above torturing the persona either. Arsene's wings have been pinioned, rather inexpertly, for example.

Some more bullet points of this AU, because I do want to maybe write it someday:

Ren's accident was a heavy fire that broke out in his neighborhood; he only got burned because he went in to save his classmate who was still stuck inside

the classmate ends up dying anyways, but his family thanks Ren profusely and end up being almost a second home for him

Ren was fourteen at the time

Ren's burns rendered him almost immobile for a while, and his parents had to sign him up to a big state hospital or something like that

his parents are, as always, shit people and annoyed that Ren got burned 'for nothing'

when a nice-looking man from the government approaches the little clinic Ren is working with and offers his help in an untested-but-absolutely-safe treatment method they sign him up at once

Ren was fifteen then. He becomes a patient at Ikutsuki's clinic after Goro, though they rarely see each other at first, before Ren's treatment ramps up and he has to become an inpatient

at first Ren thinks that all of the weird scifi augmentations actually are to help him until Goro dashes his hopes that they're just as good as human cattle to the Chairman

Somewhere around this time Ren summons Arsene for the first time as well, and they try to flee. Ikutsuki catches them and pinions Arsene as punishment, speeding up Ren's 'treatment' as well

Goro becomes fully augmented and is made to leave

a year later Ren has also been fully augmented, the only human thing about them their brain and nervous system a la Cybermen from Doctor Who. Goro kept lashing out constantly so he's programmed to obey Shido without alternatives, but Ren was smart and started to obey once Ikutsuki started hurting Arsene as well.

Ikutsuki brings in Sophia as a third research subject, a girl who's a paraplegic

with his focus on Sophia, Ren gets ignored, and he manages to plan an escape

he wanted to take Sophia with him, but she was in the middle of her augmentations, and she pleads with him to flee and live a life again

Ren escapes with a promise to come back for Sophia once he's found Goro, and wanders across Tokyo until he runs into Sojiro days later, chassis torn and in dire need of repair

Sojiro, not knowing what Ren is but seeing a kid in need, goes with him to Futaba, because Sojiro might not know what to do with all of those exposed cables, but his daughter Sure Does.

Wakaba is alive because she wasn't needed by Shido bc he has Ikutsuki. She still works in a cognitive research lab with her colleague Maruki, and has access to heavy machinery and metals to close up Ren's chassis. And even more access to metacognitive things to help Arsene

Ren and Arsene stay with the Isshiki-Sakura household while they try to figure out what happened to Goro, accidentally joining the Phantom Thieves along the way and going by 'Akira Kurusu' to avoid being found by Ikutsuki and Shido
