'Out Brit filmmaker Andrew Haigh has crafted an exquisite, melancholic, lyrical meditation on love, death, family and memory, anchored by a truly arresting performance by Andrew Scott. "All of Us Strangers," loosely and queerly adapted by Haigh from the Japanese novel "Strangers" by Taichi Yamada, centers on Adam (Andrew Scott, in a rich, nuanced performance deserving awards attention), a frustrated screenwriter who lives in a virtually empty high-rise, outside London. The only other apparent tenant is a mysterious boozy younger man named Harry ( Paul Mescal, crazy-sexy), who hits on Adam and the two eventually hook up. Meanwhile Adam reconnects with his long dead parents (Jamie Bell & Claire Foy, both flawless) who are, once again, living in his childhood home in the suburbs. Oh, and both are the same age as when they perished in an auto accident when Adam was 12, meaning they're both significantly younger than their son. But this is no gimmicky supernatural thriller, although it can be viewed as a ghost story of sorts. Haigh has more ambitious aspirations that delve into identity, desire, grief, regret, abandonment, fear, loneliness and forgiveness. Not too heady!

And the film is told through the autobio-Haigh-lens which is unapologetically queer.

Haigh is no stranger to telling gay stories, both obvious and peripheral. In 2009 he made his first feature, "Greek Pete," which followed a London rent boy around for a year. His breakout hit, "Weekend," released in 2011, chronicled a 48-hour gay romance and is already considered an LGBTQ classic. The film starred Tom Cullen and Chris New.

"45 Years" followed in 2015, dissecting a marriage in crisis. Charlotte Rampling received her first Oscar nomination for her role opposite Tom Courtenay.

The quietly bold HBO series, "Looking" premiered in 2014. The cast included Jonathan Groff, Murray J. Bartlett, Frankie J. Alvarez and Russell Tovey. "Looking" presented an authentic peek at a gaggle of gay friends in modern-day San Francisco. The show only lasted 2 seasons but was given a movie-length wrap episode in 2016.

The highly underrated indie, "Lean on Pete," (2017) took a current but, also, prescient look at the ethical and moral divide in the U.S. Haigh also kept the enigmatic lead character's sexual orientation cryptic. And as played by the gifted Charlie Plummer, that ambiguity had a decidedly queer lean.

"The North Water," a 2021 miniseries based on the novel by Ian McGuire and created by Haigh, had its share of homoerotic scenes between leads Colin Farrell and Jack O'Connell.

"All of Us Strangers" is Haigh's most personal queer exploration. It's also his most haunting, mesmerizing and best film to date.

EDGE had the pleasure of a zoom chat with Haigh.

EDGE: Andrew, the relatability to so much of this film for me was so deep and almost profound. I've spoken to quite a few people queer and not queer, who feel the same. So, through specificity you've achieved universality.

Andrew Haigh: That's very nice. That's always kind of what your goal is. Nobody wants to see a story that is just about something very specific--that has nothing else to say. That doesn't work. You have to always ground it in something universal bubbling underneath. That's what I was trying to do. It's so nice that it does work for people and works for different types of people. That's important. I didn't want to make it just for one group of people, so I'm really pleased about that.

EDGE: Can you speak about taking the Yamada novel and making it your own?

Andrew Haigh: Yeah, so the central idea is the same. I love that central idea of meeting your parents again, it felt like it unlocked something in me, and it unlock this idea about being able to talk about your past and what the past has done to you and how it can be hard to leave it behind. I don't just mean in terms of grief. I mean, in terms of how we felt when we were young and childhood experience...

This idea that we are so formulated by the first 10, 15 years of our lives and we can never really escape that. I see that in everybody. I see in people who are 70... your childhood has defined you who you are as an adult. It's almost impossible to escape it. And so that felt like such an opportunity to be able to tell that story within this strange sort of ghost story, metaphysical love story, whatever you want to see this as.

EDGE: You're reminding me, Jane Fonda said when she was writing her autobiography that she needed to go back to examine in order to move forward. I feel like the older we get, the more we seem to look back.

Andrew Haigh: I'm 50 now and I feel like the last 10 years, I've really felt it. I think when you're young, you don't look back, obviously, there's nothing to look back on. But as you get older, you're like, Okay, I've got however many years I've got left, I need to go back, I need to recalibrate, I need to have a reunion with my own path, so I can understand why I am the way I am. So, it makes total sense to me. But you have to stare it in the face. And you have to throw yourself into it in order to find some kind of way to move forward. I think that's why the film does resonate because I feel like we all want that. And the idea that we could actually have a world in which you could physically meet your past, again, is quite powerful.

EDGE: This is like a 1980s question, but we keep boomeranging, don't we? Did you get any pushback wanting to tell a queer specific and Andrew Haigh-specific story?

Andrew Haigh: I'm Yeah, that's interesting because that's two different things, isn't it? I like that. When the producers came to me with the book, the minute I said I want to do this, but I have to make it queer, they were like, of course great, do it and make the story you want to make. And Searchlight and Film4 were the same--they were l excited by the idea that I had made it specifically queer. There was no pushback... And then specific for me, is again, something different. And I feel like luckily, I've been making films now for long enough that people understand what that film will be. And they wanted to support that. So, it felt good.

EDGE: How did you decide on the structure and tone of the film?

Andrew Haigh: That was probably the biggest struggle. I did a lot of versions of the script... to fill in the structure, which there is a sort of logic but then I throw myself away from the logic. There's lots of things that I'm trying to do at the same time. And in many ways, I wanted just to plot it emotionally. If all this is a manifestation of Adam's need, what does that mean for the plot?... What does that make the tone of the film feel? And especially when you're dealing with something that could be seen as ghosts, there's so much weird logic that gets put onto those stories. Can they eat? What happens to them when he's not there? Is he really in the house?... At one point during the writing, I was like, I've got to free myself from the eternal, endless questions that you can ask yourself about the plot, and just make it be a film about feeling and texture and emotion and let that drive it.

EDGE: Speaking to that, I was fascinated by the quiet moments, the details, the lingering close ups, I've seen a few films lately, where there was all that minutia, and I was just fucking bored. Here, I was never not mesmerized.

Andrew Haigh: That's nice, because it's so true, there's no point, putting the camera on someone's face if they're not giving you something that is interesting. It just doesn't work. It's pointless... like someone standing by the window, looking out to show that they're lonely only works if something's happening or you're feeling something. For me, it is about that fine tuning and calibrating in the edit, so you're not bored and you're giving the audience something new each time or something surprising or there's something underneath what you're giving... I feel like I've always been trying to find that in everything I do. It's finding that space for the character just to exist and for you to lean in and listen more and concentrate more. I feel like if you can do that you're enveloping the audience into the story and into the world. And if you do it right then it can work.

EDGE: And, of course, your cast assemblage helps because you get such authentic and deeply affecting performances from your actors, whether it's Tom and Chris, or Charlotte and Tom or Charlie Plummer. And Andrew, Paul, Claire and Jamie here. Can you tell me a little bit about your selection process?

Andrew Haigh: The selection process is always the thing that I spent so long thinking about it. If you get that wrong, it's not going to work. And it's all about trying to find people that make sense together. That's how I how I do it. And also trying to find the right kind of people, not just as actors, but as basic human beings. I spend a lot of time reading interviews that actors might have given, watching clips of them when they're being interviewed. And then I have to sit down with them and talk to them before I go forward. I want to know what it is that they care about in terms of the material. I want to know if they're going to be open enough as collaborators to share their own experience, and me share my experience, of life and relationships and family and all that kind of thing. Then if you can get that, I think you just develop a trust. And they know I'm not going to screw them over... I love that process. I love working with actors. I love letting them be what they want to be as much as what I want them to be. That's the trick, you've got to just let it come out of them and don't try and force it into some preconceived notion of what you need that performance to be.

EDGE: I've never heard another director say that he's watched interviews (as part of the casting process). You can get so much from somebody from that.

Andrew Haigh: So much. And, also, you can see what they're showing and what they're hiding. I think I'm relatively perceptive about people and it's what they're not showing that is the most interesting thing to me. You can see a certain vulnerability in people when they're doing interviews... I also think that what an actor chooses to do with their career says so much about the person they are. Like Charlotte in "45 Years" Her choices have been so fascinating in her career that I'm like, well, you're an interesting person. There were choices that you (made). It's so important. The work that someone does defines them in so many ways. So, you have to take that on board when you're trying to make a casting choice.

EDGE: And the chemistry between Andrew and Paul were off the charts, but Claire and Jamie, too. Did you make them all shag before? I'm joking.

Andrew Haigh: (laughs) Yes, it was a really awkward session. We were in a bad hotel, and we were like, come on, this is what we got to do. We've got to really force ourselves through this. (laughs)

EDGE: Have you ever been in a situation where the chemistry wasn't working? Not necessarily on this film? And what did you do?

Andrew Haigh: ...I've been really lucky. I do think the reason that chemistry sometimes doesn't work is that you just set it up wrong. And you don't nurture the right environment on set. That is so important. If you can nurture that environment so they don't spend time locked away in their own trailers not talking to each other, that you create an environment where people are getting to know each other. I think so much of my job on set is to understand what people need.... it can be quite exhausting. You're like a therapist, basically, for the whole of the shoot...But I think that's what you need to do as a director to make sure that everybody is comfortable enough to give the best performances.

EDGE: There's so much conversation about actors playing queer roles versus the best actor for the job. I'm curious where you land. And how did it relate to the casting of Andrew Scott?

Andrew Haigh: I did want someone that was that was queer to play Andrew's character, because there's so much nuance I'm trying to pick out genuine feeling that I needed that character to have. And I think any of us who are a certain age who grew up at a certain time, it's in our body. It's baked into our DNA. How we felt the fear, the terror, the worry--all that stuff. And I didn't want to have a straight actor playing that role. Because I'd have to then try to explain all that. You know what it's like, you sit down with a gay person, there's so much shared experience you don't even need to talk about...you go into a room full of queer people you're like, I can breathe a little bit easier. Most of the time, it depends if who you're in a room with, but most of the time...

But then outside of that, there's lots of choices that go into who you cast for the role. I understand the arguments about why it can only be a queer person playing a queer role, but I really do think it depends on the role. Look, I'm gay, I wrote it. The producer Graham was gay. You don't need everybody to be gay. You just need enough people who know what they're talking about to be part of that project.

EDGE: I wanted to talk about internalized homophobia because it's there in the film. It comes from the people who shape us, doesn't it? Parents, relatives, friends...

Andrew Haigh: ...So many of us have dealt with internalized homophobia for so long in our lives. We've grown up with it. Every day you were going to school and having to deal with it, having so much shame. Sometimes you can hear a younger generation sort of think, 'Oh, you guys are just full of self-loathing, you're fully shame, get over it! And you're like, hold on, we weren't born with self-loathing or shame, it was put upon us by the world we lived in. So, you can't condemn us for having those issues that were put upon us... It doesn't just go away when it's embedded in you growing up. And it is from our family. It's from everybody, the TV, the news... I think it's a life journey for a lot of queer people to shed that internalized homophobia. And for me, personally, it's been a journey. And the film is another step in that journey to shed that. It's a very complicated thing.

There's a line in the film when (Claire Foy) asks if Adam's lonely, and that it's a very lonely life. And he's like, If I am lonely, it's not because I'm gay. And he's right. But also, being gay in the world has made him lonely. So, it's not being gay that makes you lonely, it's being gay within the world that can make you lonely.

EDGE: "Lean on Pete." I adore that film. I really appreciated that you never felt the necessity to force a sexual orientation on Charlie. There was no obligatory girlfriend or hookup scene, I'm assuming that was deliberate.

Andrew Haigh: Absolutely. And it's so weird to me--in the original novel, there's no sense that that kid is queer--but there's something to me when I thought about Charlie that he felt like a queer kid. So, in some strange way, it felt like it was a story, as well, about a kid trying to find his way in the world and being torn between this freedom--this desire for freedom--but also a craving for stability. I feel like sometimes as queer people we're told we've got to just go and find our new family... well, no, sometimes we want the stability of our actual family. I felt like that spoke to America, as I see it, and even in a bigger way about this conflict between stability and freedom. America was born on this search for freedom, the individual, but that cannot be great for everybody... We don't all need to be let free in the world to fend for ourselves.

EDGE: There's a lot of anxiety and stress involved in filmmaking. You seem like a really well put together person, how do you deal with it and not go insane?

Andrew Haigh: It's a funny thing because I feel like I'm actually quite an anxious person. And I feel like during the process, there were so many times when the anxiety of making it is almost overwhelming. Why am I doing this? Why am I putting myself through this? And that's writing, shooting, is all different anxieties, editing, the fear that that project is now going to be in the world, and how is it going to be taken? Filmmakers. It's an exposing art form. Even if it's nothing to do with you, you're exposing something about yourself. I don't care what anyone says, you care about the reaction, you care how people take it. So, it can be a stressful thing. I mean, you can just ask my poor partner who has to deal with my stress and anxiety constantly at the end of each day. But there was something that still makes me want to do it. I can't imagine I would want to do it forever... I know some filmmakers keep working into their 70s and 80s. I can't imagine that will be me. I feel like there will be a time when it's like, you know what, that's enough now, I've done what I can do, and I need to have a quieter existence.'

Sharon Goodman Concisely describe the process for the IRB prescreening review at Chamberlain University? What barriers could you face as you progress through the IRB prescreening process? The goal of the IRB process is to protect the rights of subjects participating in research or project activity conducted with the support of the affiliated institution (Harris et al., 2020). An IRB prescreening is performed first. The purpose of IRB prescreening is to determine if a full IRB review is required. For most students in the DNP program at Chamberlain University, a full IRB review is not as the implementation of primary research is not being conducted. The IRB prescreening review at Chamberlain University occurs in NR705. Preparation for the IRB prescreening review is done in NR702, with several of the necessary submission items prepared (Chamberlain University, 2022). The prepared documents are submitted in week one of NR 705 and consist of the following: 1. DNP Practicum Form 2. Prescreening form for the IRB 3. A letter from the project site stating permission to conduct the project and stating there is no IRB necessary, or an IRB site letter if the IRB approval is needed and obtained 4. A copy of the tools used in the project 5. Letters of permission for the tools of the project, if required 6. Informed consent or project information sheet, as applicable Barriers I could face as I process through the IRB prescreening process may be a delay if I have missed a vital piece of information. This is my first time going through the IRB process at Chamberlain. I may have missed a piece of information necessary for the review. To prevent this from happening, I have reviewed the forms multiple times to ensure all of the content is present. Additional peers and colleagues have reviewed the required documents for missing information. Allowing for opportunities to receive feedback is a critical component of scholarly writing that can enhance the writing process (Tornwall & McDanile, 2022). Hopefully, this additional oversight will mitigate any delays in the IRB prescreening process. Will you need to gain IRB approval from your organization? If so, what is the schedule for the organization’s IRB meetings? What is the process you will expect? If you do not need site IRB review, have you arranged to get a letter from your organization that confirms you do not need IRB approval? Please attach the letter to your post. YEAHHHHHH FINALLY CATERING TO ME!!!

Uh really long post oops. for reference, my rating for the first 4 sh's are as follows

Sh1: 9/10 Sh2: 7/10 Sh3: 9/10 Sh4: 9.5/10

Silent Hill 0/Origins

overall score: 7/10

Alot of the games issues can of course be attributed to it being a psp game, and while i won't excuse everything bc of that, j have to be honest and say I think it had so much potential as a (very) late ps2 game. Not to mention, the game ON THE PSP functions as it should. (The ps2 port does fucking not tho..oops) ans you'll see that this is...a rarity post team silent.

The story has alot of potential, Travis as a character is interesting and sympathetic and j think his dynamic with alessa js super fascinating to dig into, both of them being abused children and there was alot of intrigue regarding his powers, the game feels like a smaller more watered down she, and for that I can't fault it too much. The weapons system isn't my favorite but the combat itself is reminiscent of 1 and 2 and I really like a good chunk of the monster design, there was clearly thought and care put into it, nurses and strughtjackets/lying figures be dammed. The unlockables are pretty cool though and alot of the environments look pretty cool for a psp game, hell i LOVE the theater level its super unique, I would love to see it in (actually functional) better graphics. I also think the puzzles are pretty solid, not hair pulling like sh1 even if they're not quite as clever as say sh3.

My biggest criticisms come from the reuse of sh1 characters (just alessa and Travis would've been fine, maybe dahlia and some more org characters would've been better) the bad ending being straight up bad writing. Not to mention they did the sh3 thing of "kill too many monsters and get the bad ending" which is...stupid. The foreshadowing of the butcher being? He's just kinda there, I like the lead up but it would be more interesting if the butcher represented something from those years between Travis' father dying and him being an adult. And while there's more replayability imo than sh2, it doesn't have difficulty sliders and that makes it kinda hard to come back to quite as often. Not to mention unlike sh1, 3or sh4 there's not as much horror focus and random events.

Overall, solid game its fun to play, very silent Hill and if you're willing to look past a few continuity errors and accept its a little different and slightly derrivitive at the same time, I like to say I had alot of fun with it and still do. (Maybe I just like Travis alot...idk)

Silent Hill: Homecoming

Once again most of the issues here are gonna be corporate fuck ups, but I'm also not gonna beat around the bush, this game isn't like...good. its bad actually. "But you gave it a 6/10?" Yeah bc its not NEARLY as bad as some other games I've.. experienced.

The negatives here are, many and vast, so let's run them down. Firstly the games performance is janky on console (ps3 at least) and abysmal/unplayable on PC, what with framerate issues that are detrimental to game play on pc and make the third boss impossible. That said on console it is completable and not even too terrible...usually. Scarletts boss fight however is terribly unbalanced and broken on all skews so :/. The combat is...functional but not anyone's favorite, it's difficult to use any actually strong weapon and you can pretty much strong arm ur ways through shit with just the knife (except scarletts first form..don't try it, it won't work) for some people this will be borening (not my opinion but w/e). Most of The puzzles...leave alot to be desired. I hate sliding block puzzles. Also no run button? At all?? No easy mode? Ok... also what is this.. wheel design for the inventory...im accidentally using my serum..what is serum also? And why is the item pickup noise like...bass boosted.

The character models look awful most of the time, and comically unfinished other times, some human models are just grotesque, (judge halloway, Adam shepherd, mayor Bartlett. .you get it) and yes...there are sexy nurses. Bc of course there are. (Whole ass out???) They did straight up have some terrible endings for this game (ph ending for one, the way you get the ufo? Hell the ufo ending is kinda boring. I like the in water ending here too but. Yeah.) the story has some, problems. To say the least.

However, while the performance is bad its not the worst I've played (on the ps3 once again..unplayable on pc) and I hardly noticed the framerate when I was just running around, I personally found the combat kinda fun, between trying to dodge accurately and still attack and not use all my health items (bc those and ammo are actually rare! Unlike some games...) it is kind of a challenge and reminds me of a much worse sh4. And hey, the health items both heal an understandable amount of health that i can easily read with a bar (unlike 1-3) and they're not a complete joke (unlike sh4...) i find the exploration really fun and sure the characters look shit but the environments are Fucking great. The church is one of my fav sections, short as jt might be and yes it stole the confessional scene but its pretty well written and acted I think. The monster design is pretty fucking rad too honestly, I like the schism, siam, I like the DESIGN of the needlers even if they make me so mad to fight, and hey the nurses and ph don't show up that much to be too aggregious. The boss monsters are also fantastic design wise, very unsettling and the boss rooms are interesting as well.

The story has problems but it also has alot of potential, the concept of people sacrificing ther children for silent Hill and being overcome by their own pain and guilt is pretty fucking cool, and alex is a good character they did a good job of giving him personality, ppl bitch about him being a soldier but a) he's not and b) soldiers are people too, and a sh game that could tackle toxic masculinity, be critical of the military, and also tackle abusive religeious parents is pretty intriguing, not to mentions themes of brotherly love that's complicated bc of how they clearly favored Josh . Sure, it misses the mark, but I like taking the potential and thinking about it bc its compelling to me. And like I said, i like alex alot.

Overall, bad game yes, but not the worst as it has enough good for me to honestly really enjoy it, besides it is pretty funny when it is bad. Don't play the pc port tho

Silent Hill Shattered Memories

Unpopular opinion im sure but honestly? I find this game ALMOST on par with the team silent games. Its really that good, yes its a wii game, so this is my score taking into account the motion controls BTW.

Its BEAUTIFUL for a wii game and esp for a post team silent game, the graphics are nice and Constsitent, the environments are pretty and it has a pretty nice cold color pallet to contrast the warmer tones the series tends to skew towards. The acting and intrgrige are all on point and the WRITING is fantastic, its one of those games you play the first time not knowing the twist and play the second time picking up more and more clues and things that strengthen that twist so much more. Like sh2 its a simple story told in such a clever and interesting way that you'll probably be too invested to put it down, I beat it in one sitting in 6 hours bc i was so engrossed in the narrative. And the Puzzles man! The puzzles are phenomenal and fun to accomplish and there's even a little bit of variety in a few places on repeat playthroughs. The level of detail in this game is insane really, the things that change with the different psychology answers are pretty cool too and tho it all plays out relatively the same its still fun to see the different things you can get to happen. The gimmicks like the phone as an object, taking pictures, sneaking and zooming in, they're not too intrusive as to take away from the exploration or other game play but not completely useless and have some pretty fun Easter eggs too. The game plays sort of like a worse outlast with good puzzles and for that I do have to commend it. Oh and the fucking MUSIC is INCREDIBLE idk something ab this soundtrack has alot of heart put into it clearly.

Now, it's not perfect. The thing is, it is a WORSE outlast type game, in the running and hiding sense but well, the hiding is completely useless, its a run away game, which is ok, but I understand that people aren't gonna be a big fan of that when silent Hill has always balanced combat ad puzzles and exploration. The running segments are..aggravating, mostly bc its hard to figure out where to go, not to mention using motion controls that don't like to work half the time to fight the monsters off of you. Also, the monsters are not scarey in the slightest and the raw shock scream is actually enragaging if you've died one to many times, there's also...not really any penalty for dying. And once you're out for these running segments,there's no danger, no monsters, nothing to hide from despite having a hiding mechanic. Its not really a horror game more of a psycological thriller and I understand that the fact that its not horror can be disappointing. The psychology things might be a bit overhyped And yeah fine, the wii foreplay scene...well yeah its weird but it IS also funny as fuck.

That said, there's still alot thats good and alot thas unfair criticism lobbed at this game. Harry didn't have much of a personality in sh1 bc he's a ps1 character and sm really fleshed him out well, not to mention giving cybil some nice characterization, and they did some interesting things with dahlia and kaufmann. And Lisa.. well I'm gonna be honest I never found Lisa all that interesting in sh1..so it doesn't bother me that she's the way she is in this game. I know people hate the "horny" aspect of it but to be completely fair, YOU choose to make the game that way, don't answer in a sexual manner or look at boobs or anything else and you won't have an overly sexual game, its...literally that easy. Its given as an option for the play id they want to go for what is arguably another joke ending. (You cannot tell me sleeze and sirens is meant to be a real serious ending to the game. Cmon) and you can complain about the innacuuracies if you want but its a spin off, a retelling of the original game. Its not canon, and it didn't change the original game. It just took the ideas presented there and made them more human and lest fantastical, there's some supernatural elements but it takes a backseat to the human moments. And its honestly really cool.

Overall, great game, i reccomend it if you don't mind some slight jank with the motion controls and honestly? Look up directions on where to go for the running segments and you'll have a pretty good time overall.

Silent Hill Downpour

Overall score (so far): 7.5/10 *to be noted i haven't finished actually playing it yet but I know the basic plot and some of the details so I doubt it'll change

And so for the final silent Hill Game, I have to say, i don't think it deserves NEARLY the hatred it gets, there's alot about it that i find really cool and even fun and I think its a solid entry, a little better than origins in some parts and its downsides are both unfortunate and once again, mostly Konami's fault . That said, I'm also not gonna kid and say its a good game, just that I like it alot and we should be nicer to the last silent Hill game were probably ever gonna get.

Downpour has a pretty good, original story overall, there's alot to it, alot of intricacies and intrigue to it that honestly make it a pretty sold silent Hill game. Its different enough from the others to stand out but not super far removed from its themes and messages. I like that it doesn't try and lean into the cult aspect and tries to do something else with it, it doesn't try to explain silent Hill, but just use it to torment the characters, as it should be. There's tragedy ad human feelings here and some of them aren't the most...sensitive but they are pretty reasonable reactions id say. Playing as someone who's odds are stacked against him from the beginning as he's a prisoner is a cool way to open the game, someone convicted and you must discover if he is a good person or not. Themes of revenge explored more than in sh3 which is pretty cool. The environments look pretty nice, and i like the look of the otherworld, once again being unique with its cooler color pallet, but without the ice so it really feels like its own thing. The EXPLORATION is awesome with an actual open world which I think works well, there's alot to do in town (unlike sh1 and 0 on limiting hardware and 2 which just pretends you can explore to town but you cant) there's alot for cool little stories and sidequests to do, my favorite so far being the cinema (which has a section of ACTUAL fixed cameras like old Resident evils which is smth SH has never done and its super fucking cool!) And all the sidequess help strengthen murphy as a cheacter and argue for his innocence or complexites. The weapons system is pretty cool, picking up items and attacking with whatever you might find, finding cool Easter eggs with exploration and having fun noticing things. And it does honestly have the strongest side characters outside of SM. The puzzles are pretty solid and fun to figure out with some cool mechanics and the seperate difficulties is a great thing to bring back (actually done well like sh3) I also kind of like the method of triggering the night world/rain/monsters, and silent Hill really feels likes its constantly punishing Murphy, as it should. The music might not be Akira but its still pretty damn good, and fuck yall I like the Korn song, and you CAN press start and skip it yknow. (Thx tomm hewlit)

The negtitives tho, well they are there. For one it has the worst performance of any sh game outside of pc homecoming and like...the hd collection, the framerate like to shit itself alot lmao, its not usually detrimental bc I've played re2r with similar framerates but, yeah its not great. Not to mention while the models look better than hc they don't animate well or often at all, and the game has trouble loading in the models as fast as they should. The sound mixing could use...some work too, poor murph sounds like he's eating the mic. While I find the games exploration really fun, murphy also has the issue of not running very fast so it can be a little annoying to get back to a place you want to be when you can't run that fast, not to mention the loading times. The monster design is def the worst in the series, maybe on par w SM. Which is disappointing bc there's some pretty good moments here and there, but not nearly enough to make it scary and there's so much you can do with monsters with this premise. Also, the running sections in the otherworld are better than SM ad even more engaging than the brief ones in 2 and 3, but still, I'd prefer to do puzzles or fight a boss or smth. I will also say, the endings are, iffy while the main 2 endings are really good and Anne's bad ending as well as the joke ending are great, murphys bad endings are weird and ooc for the muphy you come to know in the game (even more so than Origins) plus, idk that the writers knew all that much about prison andbprison culture, nobody in a real prison would be mad ab Murphy killing a pedo (there's some racist implications here and there too which is. Unfortunate and disappointing. I like Howard and Robbie but they are a bit tropey, esp Howard) that said Anne is a compelling albeit unlikable character and thas pretty cool to see pulled off.

Overall, while it has downsides, I don't think Downpour is worthy of all the scorn it gets, this can have problems and you can point them out without disregarding the good parts and while it is unfortunate it doesn't run better and have some extras and didn't handle some things great, I still think its worth a playthrough, esp if you go out of your way to do the sidequests.

Book of memories is not a game I intend to play bc I don't wanna get a vita and can't imagine I'm missing much. It doesn't look bad pwr say but I'm not interested tbh

Theatre News: Zoe Caldwell, To Kill A Mockingbird, Tony News, Stephanie J. Block, Kathleen Chalfant, The Hello Girls and Harriet Harris

The company of the Broadway play To Kill A Mockingbird, written by Aaron Sorkin, directed by Bartlett Sher, and based on Harper Lee’s classic novel, will discuss its historic performance at the legendary Madison Square Garden. Four-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner Ed Harris stars at Atticus Finch and leads the cast of characters that also includes Atticus’s daughter Scout (Nina Grollman), her brother Jem (Nick Robinson), their housekeeper and caretaker, Calpurnia (LisaGay Hamilton), their visiting friend Dill (Taylor Trensch) and a mysterious neighbor, the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley (Russell Harvard). The other indelible residents of Maycomb, Alabama are brought to life on stage by Neal Huff (as Bob Ewell), Kyle Scatliffe (playing Tom Robinson), Manoel Felciano (as prosecutor Horace Gilmer), Dakin Matthews (playing Judge Taylor),and Eliza Scanlen (as Mayella Ewell).

To Kill a Mockingbird, Aaron Sorkin’s new play, directed by Bartlett Sher, and based on Harper Lee’s classic novel, will become the first-ever Broadway play to perform at The World’s Most Famous Arena, New York’s Madison Square Garden, on February 26, 2020, in front of approximately 18,000 New York City public school students. With the extraordinary support of James L. Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of The Madison Square Garden Company, this unprecedented, single-performance event will be entirely free to students of New York City Department of Education public middle and high schools from all five boroughs.

This special performance will feature the entire Broadway cast, led by Ed Harris as Atticus Finch.

All tickets are provided free and exclusively to New York City public middle and high schools through the New York City Department of Education.

It’s shot from the very front row of the stalls at the side so, although this causes a lot of problems for the brave person who filmed it, we DO get many nice close-ups and a chance to see the show from quite an unusual angle at times! Very clear sound throughout.
