Hickman doubles up to make it a dozen.
Tumblr media
The afternoon’s Supertwin Race broke the pattern of having the same podium trio in Race 2 as in Race 1. The mythical “luck of the Irish” took a break as the fancied men from the Emerald Isle hit problems. The afternoon was warmer than the morning; it was t-shirt order for the crowd in the Parliament square. The crowd was small by TT standards; especially for a local bank holiday. It seemed that normal service would be the order of the day as Michael Dunlop (MD Racing Paton) led at Glen Helen by 1.02s from Mike Browne (Burrows Paton), with Peter Hickman (PHR Yamaha) in third. Hickman’s Yamaha had a new engine purchased from Michael Rutter and worked on all of the previous day by his team. Jamie Coward (Steadplan Kawasaki) was 4th, Stefano Bonetti (ILR Paton) 5th and Josh Brookes (Dafabet Kawasaki) was in 6th. Michael Rutter was seventh, but he clipped a kerb in Kirk Michael whilst checking the rev counter and broke his steering damper; he pulled out in the pits. Paul Jordan never reached Glen Helen; he was forced to retire at Harold’s. Coward soon joined the list of retirees; he was out at the far end of Kirk Michael. At Ballaugh, Dunlop was on lap record pace; he led by 3.35s from Mike Browne; with Hickman 5.82s down in third; this on a bike that he was hoping would give him a top 10 finish.  Dominic Herbertson was first into Ramsey on the CC Engineering Kawasaki, Rutter was next; then the flying Dunlop. Still on lap record pace, Dunlop led by 5.28s from Browne; who was on a personal best lap. Hickman was 9.2s back in third; Brookes, Bonetti and Pierre-Yves Bian completed the top 6. Browne set a sector record on the mountain; but took only 0.1s from Dunlop. Then the drama began in earnest; Dunlop had to grab the clutch on the climb to Brandywell; his race was over; he would not draw level with Joey on 26 wins. With a lap at 121.069mph, Mike Browne led by 11.65s as the riders came in for the mandatory pit stop. Brookes was third going into pit lane; a long stop due to him accidentally switching of the electronics cost over 30s and dropped him off the leader board. Bian was the rider on the move; he was 4th entering pit lane. At Glen Helen; Browne’s lead was 12.2s over Hickman. Bian was third; but only 1.7s ahead of Herbertson. At Ballaugh, the lead was 13.8s as they jumped the bridge. Herbertson had cut his deficit to Bian down to 0.03s. Herbertson was the leader on the road in Ramsey; however, there was trail of bluish smoke coming out of the machine; the harbinger of his eventual demise. He had taken 3rd from Bian by 0.43s. At the head of the field, Browne had an advantage of 16.6s over Hickman. Bonetti and Hodson filled out the top 6; but Brookes was on a mission and closing rapidly. Browne’s lead was 17s at Cronk ny Mona; then misfortune hit him; the clutch gave up the ghost coming out Governor’s Dip and he was forced to retire at the Grandstand; where he was given a big round of applause. This left Hickman with the lead; Herbertson second and Bian in third. At Glen Helen for the final time, Hickman led by 40s from Herbertson. Herbertson’s bike expired at Barregarrow. As they swept through Ramsey for the final time Hickman had a comfortable lead of 49s over Bian; with Josh Brookes 5.15s behind and closing. There were no dramas on the mountain section; Hickman duly took his 12th TT victory; one that was unexpected; at a race average of 119.319mph. Bian managed to keep Brookes at bay; he finished 47.784s behind Hickman at an average of 117.671mph. Brookes was the fastest man on track on the final lap; his lap average 120.939mph. His race average of 117.603mph left him just 2s behind Bian. Stefano Bonetti; Rob Hodson (SMT Kawasaki) and Baz Furber (DC Auto Yamaha) completed the leader board. Hickman was delighted with his victory; giving fulsome praise to his team. With more development the Yamaha may be able to match the Patons for top end. Bian was ecstatic to take a podium finish; he is fine rider; more will surely follow. Brookes was left to rue the little mistake that cost him second; he learned a lot in his first races on a Supertwin; he will be pushing for a win; if he returns next year. Read the full article

God’s Not Dead 2 (2016)
Tumblr media
For what it’s worth, God’s Not Dead 2 is an improvement over the first. The story’s ridiculousness factor isn't as significant and the characters less cartoonish. Until its ending, which throws away all sensibility and confirms this picture as one that will only be enjoyed by those who will give any film about Christianity an “A”.
While teaching about nonviolent protest, Grace Wesley (Melissa Joan Hart) is asked by a student, Brooke (Hayley Orrantia), about Jesus’ own doctrine of loving one’s enemies. Confirming the scripture’s meaning, the devout evangelical Christian is brought to court for pushing her religious agenda at school.
I get it. Look at the state of Christmas, Easter and other holidays and you may feel as though the world is against your faith. There is also uncertainty in our increasingly politically correct world about freedoms. Should teachers be allowed to enforce their beliefs onto students? I don’t think so. Should we replace them with info spitting drones? No. Common sense is the only answer and, unfortunately, won't be found here.
For a while, I was actually onboard with God’s Not Dead 2. You wouldn’t crucify a public official for talking about “A David and Goliath” story, “A Good Samaritan” or calling someone an angel. Answering a question about Jesus in an unbiased way is fine but that rationale wouldn't propagate Director Harold Crook agenda. Prosecutor Pete Kane (Ray Wise, who "coincidentally" played the Devil in the TV series Reaper) can’t just be the antagonist. He has to excitedly declare that the lawsuit will “prove once and for all that God is dead”. Every trick is used to make him and everyone against Grace and her attorney, non-believer Tom (Jesse Metcalfe) into church-hating, self-serving conspirators. Never do we believe the film's claim that we're only talking about the issue of separating Church and state.
If the story’s problems were reserved to a biased tale of heroes vs. villains, one might be forgiving. Legal battles are inherently entertaining to watch and, at points, the testimonies both for and against Grace make for good brain food. Unfortunately, God’s Not Dead 2 is a sequel, which means it hauls as much baggage from the first picture as it can. Does anyone really care about Chinese student Martin (Paul Kwo)? Who was wondering what the rental car guy(Tommy Blaze)? What about Reverend Dave (David A. R. White)? The only relevant aspect they add is a post-credit stinger so big it can’t be ignored.
I kept giving God’s Not Dead 2 chances. Then we get to the end. Based on the production company, you already know what the verdict is going to be, but the way it’s obtained is absurd. What could’ve been a film that seriously discussed religion instead turns into a farce. It’s a sequel that’s superior to its predecessor, but that means little. (On Netflix, April 7, 2018)

Archive Project - March 24, 2014 - God’s NOT Dead and Muppets Most Wanted
I gotta say! I enjoyed the Monsters University short before Muppet's Most Wanted! I think this is the first time that Disney has done cross promotion to another one of it's franchises which is pretty cool! The skit was pretty amusing too! I'm infamously NOT a fan of Monsters University but I thought this worked. ————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————— God's NOT Dead, 2014. Harold Cronk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrmBiLM5xjg Muppets Most Wanted, 2014. James Bobin 113 Minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQiGyBiNjLI ————————————————————————————————————————— God's NOT Dead ————————————————————————————————————————— Honestly there isn't much I can say to this one that will influence people to go see it or not. If your a Christian, chances are you saw it two days ago when it first came out, and if not chances are you probably will never see it. Honestly though if you are a Christian and you haven't seen it yet I would probably recommend this to you! Christian movies are all about the message and the ultimate quality is almost an after thought. But since i'm a critic lets talk about that anyway!! Right off the bat, I really like the concept! A young christian entering college named Josh is forced to take a Philosophy course for a humanities credit under an infamously brutal professor. On the first day of class the professor makes all of his students sign a pledge that "God is Dead" in order for them to properly start the kids off without having to first make philosophical arguments against it and waste class time. Josh refuses and is forced to defend his opinion in front of the class in a series of debates which he must pass in order to pass the class. Given that historically, college is the time in people's lives where the "Find themselves" and let their more liberal sides run wild, I like that this movie challenges that by creating a movie designed to reinforce and arm young Christians with the knowledge and confidence they need to defend their face in the face of challenges. According to the end credits, the movie was inspired by a LONG series of court cases defending religious freedom on college campuses around the country. Turns out thats a huge problem! Though I would more naturally assume that the movie is based off the Christian song Newsboys song "God's Not Dead" I always here on the radio. Which is appropriate because the actual Newsboys make a cameo appearance in the third act! The cameos, like the mentioned Newsboys appearance are fairly gratuitous but amusing. Phil Robertson, from the cast of Duck Dynasty even makes a brief cameo appearance! I'm not a fan of the show so its not a huge deal for me personally but I get that he's a huge influence on a lot of young christians so the cameo was cool! Onto the bad part.. Like every Christian movie that comes out it suffers from a series of crushing issues that push the movie down in quality: heavy handed message mongering, a lack of talented mainstream actors, and a general preference of emotional pandering over intelligent writing. In addition to the main, interesting and well written, storyline there are about 4 additional stories happening in the background that very very VERY loosely tie into the main story. If the movie was going for a Pulp Fiction style series of short stories about dealing with ones faith I would be much more interested but they all play out in chronological order with different tones and characters that are fairly one-note and shallow. Among theses stories we get such classic tales as: a minister who's car keeps breaking down, a liberal journalist with an jerky boyfriend, a muslim girl with a mean dad, another girl with a jerky boyfriend and a mom with memory loss, and an awkward girlfriend character who drops out of the plot fairly quickly. Not all of the subplots are bad mind you! There is another one with a Chinese Exchange student who is struggling with his viewpoint of the world as the argument between Josh and the Professor goes on that is very subtle and effective! You probably noticed that half of the subplots involve characters being mean. This is another problem I have with the writing! Most of the characters that aren't obviously the victims of their situations are inhumanly mean and melodramatic. I guess this is the subtly and character depth you get from the acclaimed director of… Jerusalem Countdown… Also the ending of the movie, without spoiling it, had me going…. "Seriously??? THEY DID THAT???" You'll see what I mean. This was a scene that could have been removed and resulted in the movie being much more intelligent and thought provoking but instead, as with Christian movie standards, they prefer to just rip open the chest and start violence beating on the heartstrings with a metal bat! Really though as far as Christian Films go this one is pretty decent! A well intentioned movie that will please people of the faith and leave people outside of it $6.00 poorer. If you are a Christian, I would recommend checking it out! ————————————————————————————————————————— Muppets Most Wanted ————————————————————————————————————————— I'm a newly converted fan of The Muppets! Two days ago I finally got around to watching my copy of 2011's The Muppets I was given as a gift and I FEEL IN LOVE!! A great combination of catchy music, cleaver writing and gratuitous celebrity appearances made for a great movie experience! I loved how meta the story was and how it was able to take advantage of horribly overused cliches as a means of creating a massive love letter to The Muppets! Now the sequel is out! And the first song is a song about how the sequel is never as good as the original………………………….. Starting as it means to go on I guess! Don't get me wrong! This movie is actually good! Really good! Just not as great as the last one unfortunately… The movie ultimately concedes at the beginning that it can't best itself so its just going to have fun with making another movie, even though it won't be as funny. While there weren't as many laugh out loud moments are there were in the original, I had a smile on my face the whole time and I kept chuckling throughout the experience. Plus If you've ever wanted to see Danny Trejo do a musical performance of I hope I Get It, this is the movie for you!! Not nearly as much to say on this one I guess… I recommend if you haven't checked out the last Muppet movie that you check it out asap! It should be at Redbox right now! If you want a copy go check your local FYE store! They have $5.00 copies which is a relief from the normal Disney Mandated Eternal $20.00 price tag that is permanently labeled to every DVD they release… Then watch this one! ————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————— Thank you for reading! Wacka Wacka!

God’s Not Dead (2014)
Tumblr media
God’s Not Dead is the kind of film that should be so bad it’s good, but then goes too far and becomes embarrassing.
When university student Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper) is told by his philosophy professor Jeffrey Radisson (Kevin Sorbo) to sign a declaration that “God is dead” in order for the class to move on to “rational thought”, he refuses. Now he must debate the subject with his professor to avoid a failing grade.
To give you an idea of what kind of it's-us-or-them mentality the film has, look at its principal characters. Professor Radisson is an atheist, which means he hates all religions and will openly mock people for believing in what is really their own damn business. It isn’t enough that Josh has to stand up against him; the student’s world has to hang in the balance of this debate, as losing will kill his potential future in law. In fact, not denouncing his faith (in what is an unfair situation from a school where apparently no one ever raises an eyebrow) will likely cost him his longtime girlfriend (Cassidy Gifford as Kara, so not in this movie she’s barely worth mentioning). There are no human beings here, only crude approximations for the director to bash you over the head with.
God is Not Dead is 100% false. It doesn’t even address basic ideas you’d expect it to bring up. Isn’t debating faith as pointless as questioning love, truth or other intangibles? Josh’s argument could simply be “I feel it in my heart” and no one could prove otherwise, right? not in God’s Not Dead, a film set in a strange realm where unbelievers are created by the kind of tragic backstories that are a dime a dozen. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We haven’t yet touched the superfluous side plots and characters. Professor Radisson is dating Mina (Cory Oliver) who is taking care of her elderly mother while her atheist brother (Dean Cain, playing more of a Lex Luthor than Superman) is dating Amy (Trisha Lafache), a left-wing blogger eager to ridicule anyone who has even an inkling of faith. Meanwhile, a young Middle-Eastern woman, Ayisha (Hadeel Sittu) has to hide her conversion to Christianity from her Muslim father –what’s this? a religious person who is… not pure of heart and soul? Let’s just boot him out of the movie quick and move on! There are even more subplots and tangents with a Chinese student (Paul Kwo) who takes a keen interest in the classroom debate, a reverend whose car won’t start (perhaps a sign of divine intervention?) and cameos by Duck Dynasty member Willie Robertson and Christian music group the Newsboys.
Even for its intended audience, God’s Not Dead is hack writing, the kind of unrealistic stacked-deck melodrama that brings nothing to those watching. Stay away. (On Netflix, March 31, 2018)
