Bollywood Movies Part CCXIV: Not Bollywood, that's for sure
Tumblr media
J. Jayalithaa (Kangana Ranaut) becomes fellow actor M. J. Ramachandran's (Arvid Swamy) political protege, ultimately replacing him as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister after his death.
Thalaivii is a biopic about J. Jayalithaa that fictionalizes some details. It is similar to the second half of Iruvar, as that is also based on M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalithaa's relationship. I watched it in Tamil, even though it was also simultaneously filmed in Hindi. It was an interesting version of that period of Tamil Nadu politics, but it definitely leans into the melodrama. Favorite songs are Unthan Kangalil Ennadiyo, Tugalai Tugalai, and Kannum Kannum Pesa Pesa. None of the songs have subtitles.
Tumblr media
Pianist Ray (Prithviraj Sukumaran) witnesses the murder of former actor Uday Kumar (Shankar) but is unable to testify against those involved, Uday’s wife Simi (Mamta Mohandas) and her lover Inspector Dinesh (Unni Mukundan), without revealing that he isn’t actually blind.
Bhramam is the Malayalam remake of Andhadhun. As a remake, it's decent. The actors are all fantastic in their roles and the script is well localized. However, it is lackluster in the music, which was a huge part of the original. Favorite songs are Munthiripoovo and Lokam - Who Wants it? Neither song has subtitles.
Tumblr media
Veer Sooryavanshi (Akshay Kumar) chases down a terrorist plot while having angst about trying to reconcile with his estranged wife Ria (Katrina Kaif).
Sooryavanshi is big on the action and explosions, less so on the plot. This is part of the Rohit Shetty Cop Universe (as it's called on wikipedia) and both Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh appear as Singham and Simmba in the long end fight sequence. Honestly that was the best part of the movie as they brought some well deserved comic relief to the film which was sorely lacking in the rest of it. Favorite songs are Mere Yaraa and Hum Hindustani. Neither song has subtitles.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): The Assignment of the Duty of the Prophethood and First Muslims
Hz. Ali Embraces Islam
Hazrat Khadija’s conversion to Islam in an unhesitant fashion made our Holy Prophet (PBUH) extremely happy and increased his enthusiasm. There was someone in this world that had accepted and had attested to his cause.
The second person whom our Holy Prophet (PBUH) invited to Islam was again one of the closest to him; and that person was Hazrat Ali. He was under our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) discipline since he was four or five years old. As a result, he had incomparable manners and a higher sense of wisdom and morality than his peers.
One day, he saw our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Khadija praying. He looked at them in awe and after they finished praying, he asked, “What is this?” Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) answered, “Oh Ali, this is the religion that Allah loves and that He has chosen. I invite you to believe in Allah, who is One and to refrain from worshiping Lat and Uzza, who can neither benefit nor harm humanity.”
Hazrat Ali paused for a moment and looked towards the ground with his sweet, childlike glance. He then replied, “This is something that I have not seen or heard until now. I cannot say anything without first consulting with my father, Abu Talib.”
However, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) had not received permission to openly declare his cause. For this reason, he warned Hazrat Ali, “Oh Ali! If you choose to follow what I have said then do so, but if you choose not to, then keep what you have heard and seen a secret. Do not say anything to anyone.”
Hazrat Ali promised to keep this a secret upon hearing our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) warning. He spent the night thinking. Together with the sunrise, a sense of enlightenment arose in his heart. He went before our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) presence, “When Allah created me, He did not ask Abu Talib for permission; therefore, I will seek Allah’s advice so that I can worship Him” and he became Muslim. Hazrat Ali, who attained the honor of being “the first child to become a Muslim”, was ten years old at the time.
Taking precautions is always favorable. However, it is especially favorable when a new cause is beginning to spread. By telling Hazrat Ali not to recount what he had seen and heard to anyone for the time being, Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) was taking precautions, acting wisely, taking gradual measures, and setting an example for us. Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) was always careful to apply precautions and took timing and conditions into consideration very seriously; such conduct was vitally importance during his prophethood.
Zaid bin Haritha, who our Holy Prophet (PBUH) had adopted, followed Hazrat Khadija and Hazrat Ali by converting to Islam.
After their conversion, the ties that Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Zaid had towards our Holy Prophet (PBUH) were strengthened and renewed. From then on, they would not separate from our Master’s (PBUH) side and they performed their prayers and worshipped with him.
From time to time, Hazrat Ali would go to the Kaaba with our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and perform his prayers there.
Before Afif Kindi became a Muslim, he had gone to Mecca with the intention of shopping and saw our Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Khadija, and Hazrat Ali praying. After he became a Muslim, he related the account with envy:
“I really wish I had become a Muslim at that time and that I had been the fourth person among them!”
Despite our Holy Prophet (PBUH) not having openly declared his cause to the public at that time, the unbelievers were not pleased that they were praying at the Kaaba and did not want the two to worship differently from them. For that reason, at a later time, our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Ali deemed it more suitable to pray in the fields and valleys.
Hazrat Ali’s parents were after him
This condition of Hazrat Ali, in which he did not separate from our Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) side and followed him like a shadow, caused his parents to panic and worry. Lady Fatima, in particular, was overly worried. She said to her husband, “your son is wandering with Muhammad too much. Be careful that nothing happens to him.”
Abu Talib was an understanding person. He wanted to learn the situation directly from our Holy Prophet (PBUH). One day, he followed our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Ali. He found them praying in one of the valleys in Mecca. He asked the Master of the Universe (PBUH), “Oh, my brother’s son, what religion is this?”
Our Holy Prophet (PBUH) replied, “Oh, Uncle, you are among those whom I invite to the truth. You are supposed to be among the first to accept this invitation since you are the most deserving out of everyone! Abandon the practice of idol worshipping and believe in the One True God.”
Abu Talib was absorbed in thought for some time and at last he said, “I cannot separate from my old religion. However, continue to practice this religion that you follow! By Allah, I swear that while I am alive, no one can hinder you from completing your mission and do to you anything that you do not like.” Afterwards, he turned to his son and asked, “Oh, my dear son, what is this religion that you follow?”
Hazrat Ali replied, “My dear father, I too have testified to Allah and His Messenger and have attested to every message that he has brought from Allah. I followed him and prayed together with him.”
Upon this, Abu Talib said, “Oh son! It is befitting that you enter the religion of your uncle’s son willingly.” He will only invite you to beneficence. Submit to him!” By saying these words, he made our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Ali happy. He then walked away from there.
When he returned home, Lady Fatima hastily said to him in a harsh tone, “Where is your son? My servant saw him praying with Muhammad on the site of Jiyad. Do you approve of your son changing his religion?”
Abu Talib replied, “Be quiet! By God, it mostly falls upon the uncle and the father to support and help.” By saying these words, he expressed that there was no need to worry and concern. Afterwards he said, “If my ego complied with my wish to leave Abdulmuttalib’s religion, then I would subject myself to Muhammad since he is gentle, trustworthy, and pure.”

The Book of Paradise, its Description, its Bounties and its Inhabitants Book 53, Hadith 56
Haritha b. Wahb reported that he heard Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) as saying:
May I not inform you about the inmates of Paradise? They said: Do this, of course. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: Every humble person who is considered to be humble if he were to adjure In the name of Allah, He would fulfil it. He then said: May I not inform you about the denizens of Hell-Fire? They said: Yes. And he said: Every haughty, fat and proud (person).

Video title - Adoption in Islam | Nouman Ali Khan
Video source - YouTube
Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu Sheikh. I am a female from India currently pursuing the journey of learning deen.
I know the rules and protocols of kafala in islam. It's one of my biggest dream to do foster care/parenting of abandoned children and inshallah help them learn deen make them Hafiz/Hafizah. Inshallah I will do this if Allah helps me with achieving this dream.
Alhamdulillah i am aware about naming a child upon biological father, property distribution, suckling age, duration, (marhams & non marhams of kid, foster mother & foster father, & their children ) story of zaid bin haritha & zaynab bint jahsh, i understand it's just looking after children who doesn't have anyone to support them. Loving them & being just to them like their own parents but can't claim them to be ours.
1) My question here is in this particular video ustad is saying that adoption is sunnah form Allah itself.
Sunnah is associated to actions & practices of our Nabi (saw) right. then how come the word sunnah is used here with Allah..? Could you please explain for the sake of Allah swt? 🥺
I don't want to learn something wrong that is related to my goal for the sake of Allah which is closely related to my heart
2) Could you please suggest some authentic books related to kafala / foster care in islam?
Allahumma barik sheikh kindly make dua for achieving my dream inshallah.
Wa Alaikum As Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
Apologies for the delay due to my unavoidable circumstances.
1) Any word in Arabic language has a linguistic meaning and a meaning in Shariah terminology.
The linguistic meaning is methodology or way.
Therefore the usage in the quoted statement is linguistic.
The terminology in Shariah for Sunnah also differs based on the subject or topic.
Sunnah in Hadeeth is The sayings and Actions of Rasoolullah.
In Aqeedah it is opposite of Bidah,
and so on.
2) As for the books, I have personally not come across any.
Jazakallahu Khairan.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Shall I inform you about the people of Paradise? They comprise every obscure unimportant humble person, and if he takes Allah's Oath that he will do that thing, Allah will fulfill his oath (by doing that). Shall I inform you about the people of the Fire? They comprise every cruel, violent, proud and conceited person."

THE FEMALE COMPANIONS OF THE PROPHET (PBUH): Part 22
ASMA BINT UMAYS (radhiallahu anha)
During the first years of Islam, the polytheists tried to force Muslims to exit their religion through unbearable tortures and to intimidate and dissuade those who tended to be Muslims. However, the Companions whose strength originated from their belief persevered in their belief and did not make any concessions.
This situation distressed the Prophet. Once, he told the Companions that they could migrate to Abyssinia if they wished. Upon this, offer, a group of 15 Companions migrated to Abyssinia. The Negus of Abyssinia treated the Muslims very well and entertained them. When the Prophet heard about it, he became very happy and advised the other Muslims to migrate, too. Thus, 92 people, 82 of whom were male and 10 of whom were female, migrated in the way of Allah, leaving their homeland. One of them was Hz. Asma bint Umays.
Asma was married to Hz. Jafar, the Prophet’s paternal uncle’s son.
This happy family had three children in Abyssinia. Hz. Asma and Jafar lived there for a long time with the other muhajirs. They migrated to Madinah in the 7th year of the Migration. Thus, they gained the reward of “two migrations”.
Hz. Asma often visited the wives of the Prophet.
Once, she visited Hz. Hafsa. After a while, Hz. Hafsa’s father, Hz. Umar arrived. He said to Asma jokingly, “We were better off than you in terms of migration.” Asma felt very sad. He addressed Hz. Umar as follows:
“O Umar! No, you were not because you were with the Messenger of Allah. He fed those of you who were hungry and advised those of you who were ignorant. However, were in the land of the enemy and we went there for the sake of Allah and His messenger.”
Meanwhile, the Messenger of Allah arrived. Hz. Asma was sad. She told the Prophet what Hz. Umar had said. The Prophet gave her the following glad tiding, which rejoiced her:
“Umar and his friends had one migration but you, the voyagers through the sea, had two migrations.”
There could not have been a better glad tiding than the one given by the Prophet for Hz. Asma. She was moved and she wept for joy.(Muslim, Fadailu’s-Sahaba: 169. )
When Hz. Asma wanted to do something, she would ask the Prophet about it and acted accordingly.
Once, she asked the Prophet,
“O Messenger of Allah! My children are touched by the evil eye. Shall I make somebody read and pray for them?”
The Prophet said,
“Yes. If anything could prevent qadar, it would be an evil eye.”( Tirmidhi, Tibb: 17. )
Hz. Asma had nine sisters.
All of them became Muslims. The Prophet called them “believing sisters”.They liked this nickname and liked to be called like that.
Hz. Asma led a happy life that served as a model with Hz. Jafar.
She fulfilled all of her duties fully and never disrespected her husband. They led a happy life. Their days passed like that.
In the 8th year of the Migration, the Prophet prepared an army to fight the Byzantines. He appointed Zayd bin Haritha as the commander. If he were to be martyred, Hz. Jafar would be the commander.
Jafar said goodbye to his wife and kissed her children. Then, he left. When the army left Madinah, Asma felt that she would never see her husband again.
After a few weeks, the Islamic army confronted the Byzantines near Muta. The enemy had more soldiers and weapons than the Muslims did. However, the mujahids who left Madinah with the thought of “martyrdom” did not give any importance to the enemy’s size. They attacked heroically. It was a great battle. The Muslims gained a victory. However, Hz. Jafar was martyred. There were more than 90 cuts of swords and spears on his body. In addition, both of his arms had been cut off.
Allah Almighty showed his beloved Prophet the battlefield. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) told his Companions that Hz. Jafar was martyred, that Allah Almighty gave him two wings for his arms that were cut off and that he flew to Paradise with them. After that, Hz. Jafar was given the names “Tayyar [Flyer]” and “Dhul-janahayn [Having Two Wings]”.( Usdu'l-Ghaba, 1: 358. )
Hz. Asma and her children were waiting for Hz. Jafar.
They did not know that he had been martyred. The Prophet went Hz. Jafar’s house. He asked Hz. Asma where the children were. Hz. Asma held their hands and brought them to the Prophet. She had washed their faces and combed their hair. The Messenger of Allah held them to his breast and kissed them. Meanwhile, tears fell from his eyes.
This made Asma worried. She said,
“O Messenger of Allah! May my mother and father be sacrificed for you! Why are you weeping? Did you receive any sad news from Jafar and his friends?”
The Prophet (pbuh) said,
“Yes. They were martyred today.
Hz. Asma could not control her feelings. She started to cry loudly and beat her chest. The Prophet did not like it when she did so and said to her,
“O Asma! Do not utter any bad words and do not beat your chest.”
The women gathered around Hz. Asma. The Messenger of Allah went home and said to his wives,
“Jafar’s family are not in a position to cook meals. Cook some food and send it to their house.”
Thereupon, they cooked and sent food to Hz. Jafar’s house for three days. This was the first food sent to a house when somebody died in that house in the history of Islam.( Tabaqat, 8: 282; Sirah, 3: 477. )
The Prophet (pbuh) went to Hz. Jafar’s house after three days passed.
He wanted to take Hz. Jafar’s children under his protection. He gave Hz. Asma the following glad tiding that rejoiced her:
“Do not cry for my brother (Jafar) from now on. Do not worry about the sustenance and care of these children. I am their guardian in both the world and the hereafter.”( Tabaqat, 4: 37. )
Hz. Asma lived as a widow for six months.
Hz. Abu Bakr wanted to take this woman, who suffered a lot in the way of Islam, under his protection. He asked her to marry him. Hz. Asma accepted his offer. Thus, the family found a good guardian.
Hz. Asma, who received the prayer of the Prophet, said,
“This prayer is the one that I rely on the most among my deeds."
She narrated a few hadiths. One of them is as follows:
“When the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) confronted something that distressed him or some trouble and grief hit him, he would say, ‘My Lord is Allah. I do not associate any partners with him.’”
Hz. Asma, who married Hz. Ali after the death of Hz. Abu Bakr died in the 40th year of the Migration.
May Allah be pleased with her!

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): The Battle of Badr and Afterwards
Some other important events of the 2nd Year of Hijrah
Fasting in Ramadan is Rendered Fard
Fasting in Ramadan was rendered fard one month after the qiblah was changed to the Kaaba and in the beginning of the 18th month after Hijrah, in the month of Saban. The following were stated in the verses regarding fasting:
“O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you that ye may (learn) self-restraint…
Ramadan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide to mankind also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (between right and wrong).
So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spent it in fasting, but if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later.
Allah intends every facility for you He does not want to put you to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful!”
Fasting in Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam.
Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah stated the following:
“Islam is based on five things: testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, establishing the prayer (salah); paying the zakah (wealth-tax), performing the Hajj and fast in Ramadan.”
Sadaqa al-Fitr is Rendered Wajib
Toward the end of the month of Ramadan of the same year, sadaqa al-fitr was rendered wajib.
The Messenger of Allah ordered that every rich Muslim, whether young or old, free or slave, male or female, give one sa’ (1040 dirhams) of dry dates or one sa’ of barley or raisin, or one mud (half a sa’) of wheat to the poor before the prayer of eid.
The First Eid Prayer is Performed
When the crescent of Shawwal was seen and when the sun rose in the morning, the Messenger of Allah ordered Muslims to break their fasts and to go to the open praying area for the eid prayer. Then he went to the open praying area and led the eid prayer there before the khutbah (sermon) and without adhan or iqamah.
When the Messenger of Allah honored Madinah, the people of Madinah had two festival days. The Prophet said to them, “Allah gave you two better festival days: eid al-fitr (Ramadan Festival) and eid al-adha (Sacrifice Festival).”
The Messenger of Allah always performed eid prayers in the open praying area. The open praying area of Madinah was at the east gate of the city of Madinah.
The Prophet always walked to the open praying area. He went to the open praying area from one way and returned from another way. He always ate something before he set off for the prayer of eid al-fitr. He generally ate a few dates.
Zakah is Rendered Fard
Zakah was rendered fard in the 2nd year of Hijrah after the fasting of Ramadan was rendered fard and sadaqa al-fitr was rendered wajib.
Zakah is a financial kind of worshipping for rich Muslims that involves giving a certain amount of their goods, property or money to the poor every year.
Zakah is one of the five pillars of Islam. It was ordered in the Quran: (an-Nur, 56; al-Muzzammil, 20; al-Hajj, 78; al-Baqara, 110). It is mentioned in 32 places in the Quran together with prayer (salah)
The Prophet stated the following in a hadith:
“Every day in the morning, two angels come down and one of them says, ‘O my Lord! Give to those who give zakah and sadaqa and spend their property for the sake of Allah the amount that they spend’. The other one says,  ‘O my Lord! Destroy the property of those who do not give zakah or sadaqa!”
Death of Hazrat Ruqayya
Hazrat Ruqayya, the daughter of the Prophet who was married to Hazrat Uthman, became ill during the Expedition of Badr.  Hazrat Uthman stayed in Madinah to look after her upon the order of the Prophet. He could not go to Badr. When Zayd b. Haritha brought the news of the Victory of Badr to Madinah, Hazrat Ruqayya had died.
Umm Ayman washed her dead body. Hazrat Uthman led her janazah prayer and buried her in the cemetery of al-Baqi.
Hazrat Ruqayya was born after Hazrat Zaynab when the Messenger of Allah was 33 years old. She became a Muslim together with Hazrat Khadija, her mother. Then, she married Hazrat Uthman. Hazrat Uthman migrated to Abyssinia with her. When the Messenger of Allah saw that they were migrating together, he said, “After Lot (pbuh), Uthman is the first person to migrate in the way of Allah with his family.”
Abu Darda Becomes a Muslim
Abu Darda Uwaymir b. Sa’laba became a Muslim during the Expedition of Badr.
Abdullah b. Rawaha (may Allah be pleased with him) was an intimate friend of Abu Darda. One day, Abdullah took an adze and broke the idol in Abu Darda’s house. When Abu Darda returned home, his wife told him about it. Abu Darda started to think and said to himself, “If this idol had been useful, it would have protected itself!” Then, he went to the Prophet to become a Muslim.
When Abdullah b. Rawaha saw him coming from a distance, he said, “O Messenger of Allah! Abu Darda is coming. He is probably coming here to see us!”
The Messenger of Allah said, “He is coming here to become a Muslim. My Lord had informed me beforehand that Abu Darda would be a Muslim!”
When Abu Darda went to the presence of the Prophet, he became a Muslim. His family had embraced Islam before him.
Hazrat Fatima Marries Hazrat Ali
Hazrat Fatima married Hazrat Ali five months after the Messenger of Allah honored Madinah in the month of Rajab. Their wedding was in the month of Dhul-Hijjah in the 2nd year of Hijrah after the Battle of Badr.
Hazrat Fatima was the youngest and his most beloved daughter. Whenever the Prophet returned from a battle or expedition, he went to the mosque first to perform a prayer of two rak’ahs and then he went to Hazrat Fatima; after that, he went to his wives.
Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates:
“I have never seen anyone whose words and speech resemble those of the Messenger of Allah. When Fatima came, the Messenger of Allah would welcome her with compassion and greet her by saying, “Welcome!” I have never seen anyone more straightforward than Fatima.”
The walking style of Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her) resembled that of the Prophet a lot.
Once, Hazrat Aisha was asked, “Who was the most beloved person for the Prophet?”
Hazrat Aisha answered, “Fatima”
When she was asked, “Who was the most beloved man for the Prophet?”, she answered, “Fatima’s husband.
The Prophet Sends Someone to Makkah to Bring his Daughter Hazrat Zaynab
Among the captives of Badr was Abu As b. Rabi, the husband of Hazrat Zaynab and the son-in-law of the Prophet. As we mentioned under the topic of the captives of the Battle of Badr, Abu As went to Makkah when he was released. Abu As had prevented Hazrat Zaynab from migrating before; however, this time he let her go.
The Messenger of Allah sent Zayd b. Haritha and somebody from Ansar to Makkah a month or less than a month after the Battle of Badr and they brought Hazrat Zaynab.
Death of Uthman b. Maz’un, from Muhajir Muslims
He is the first muhajir Muslim buried in the cemetery of al-Baqi.
The first Eid al-Adha Prayer is Performed
The Messenger of Allah reached Madinah on the ninth of the month Dhul-Hijjah from the Expedition of Sawiq. The next day, that is, the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, he went to the open praying area with Muslims. He led the two-rak’ah eid al-adha prayer without adhan or iqamah. He recited a sermon after the prayer. In the sermon, he ordered Muslims to sacrifice animals. He himself sacrificed two animals. While slaughtering one of the fleshy white rams, he said,   “O Allah! This is on behalf of my ummah, who witness your oneness and what came to me from you.” While slaughtering the second one, he said, “O Allah! This is for Muhammad and the household of Mu¬hammad. He himself, his household and the poor ate from the meat of the second ram.
That was the first eid al-adha in Islam!

🥀🕯🥀 Lady Fatima al-Zahra (sa) the Mother of her Father 🥀🕯🥀
Sheikh Mansour Leghaei
🥀🕯🥀 Introduction 🥀🕯🥀
In the Name of God; the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Lady Fatima, the lady of light has an elevated status in the eyes of Allah due to her childhood sacrifices and support towards the religion of Islam. She is ‘the mother of her father and is an axis to great qualities. The mutual affection between Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) and her is unique and holds a very prominent position in father-daughter relationship.
Abu-Faraj al-Isfahani in his Isnad narrated from Imam Sadiq (A.S) from his father: “Verily, Fatima (S.A) was surnamed ‘Omme Abiha’.”
[Beharul-Anwaar, vol43 p.19 from Maqatelu-Talebin]
‘Omme Abiha’ or ‘The Mother of her Father’ is one of the best-known titles of Lady Fatima (peace be upon her). This title sounds quite peculiar for many people especially those who are less familiar with the Arabic language. This lecture is a humble interpretation of the abovementioned Hadith. I shall by the Will of Allah suggest 10 reasons because of which she enjoyed this unique title.
Fatima was the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W), the wife of Imam Ali (A.S), the mother of the only two Masters of the Youth of Paradise- Imam Hasan and Imam Husain- and the mother of the 11 infallible Imams (peace be upon them all). She is the elite of the elite women of the past, present and future. She was an infallible martyr and a human huri. She was the crystallization of piety, chastity and real devotee of the Almighty Allah. Her virtues are so numerous that the Messenger of Allah said about her: “If beauty were a person it would be Fatima, Nay! She is greater. Indeed, Fatima is my daughter and the best of the people of the earth in her origin, dignity and honour.” [Fara`edoh-Samtayn vol.2 p.68]
Fatima had a short life in this world and as her husband Imam Ali (A.S) has described, “She joined her father very soon.” Yet, her life was so rich with abundant blessings so much so that she became al-Kauthar and the fountain of the Prophetic blessings.
🕯 Childhood 🕯
Fatima was born during the Prophetic mission and when the Prophet of Islam had reached his perfection. She was the only child of the house of Prophet Muhammad and Sayyeda Khadija (S.A). Her conception was heavenly blessed with the paradisiacal fruit gifted to her father at the time of his ascension. She was brought up in a house wherein revelation and the words of God were constant. She witnessed the descending and ascending of the angels. Her physical growth accomplished with her mental and spiritual growth and hence she became an infallible lady who enjoyed the sublime virtues of her father, the holy Prophet of Islam.
🕯 After the demise of her mother 🕯
Lady Khadija died 10 years after the Prophet of Islam declared his mission and left her five-year-old daughter an orphan. The richest lady of Quraiysh at the time of her death could not even afford a simple shroud for her burial and hence she requested her daughter to ask her father to shroud her with his own cloak after her death. Fatima was since the only memory of Khadija for the Prophet of Islam. After the painful death of her mother the young Fatima dedicated herself to her father, the Messenger of God. During the hardship of Makka she was not only a supportive daughter but a comrade. After her marriage with Imam Ali in Medina, initially her house was quite a distance from the mosque which would make traveling to the Prophet quite difficult. Thus, the Prophet arranged that the young couple live in the house of Haritha bin No’man whose house was near the house of the Prophet. [ibn Sa’ad, al Tabaqaat vol 8 p14]
🕯 The Female Comrade of the Holy Prophet (S) 🕯
Fatima was not the type of girl who sat at home weaving or sewing with no social responsibility. Her exalted spirit had made her from the very early stages of her life, endeavor for the spread of Islam with her father.
Once, the Prophet of Islam was inviting people to Islam inside the Masjidul Haraam. Abu Jahl made some of his puppets pour rubbish onto the Prophet. Fatima; the female comrade of the Prophet immediately ran towards her father and with her small hands cleaned the head and the shoulders of the Prophet of Islam.
Many a time the infidels of Quraiysh stoned the Messenger of God and the young Fatima was sometimes shielding her father with her own body. Her care and compassion towards the Messenger of God was so motherly and passionate. Every time the Messenger of God came home Fatima was dusting the hair and face of the Prophet. It was due to all this compassionate conduct of Fatima that the Messenger of God had such tremendous love for her.
The role of Fatima in her support and the spread of Islam was so vital that according to Imam Ali (A.S) she was considered the second pillar of Islam. After the martyrdom of Fatima Zahra (S.A) Imam Ali stated, “The messenger of God was the first column of Islam and Fatima was the second and the Islamic Ommah today has lost its second column too.
Fatima During the Islamic Battles
Fatima was a woman and as such jihad was not obligatory on her. Nonetheless, she was an active participant and a supporter of the Muslim warriors along with her father and husband. During battles, Fatima had the responsibility of nursing the wounded soldiers and repairing their artillery. When the rumor about the martyrdom of the Messenger of God was spread in Medina during the battle of Ohud, Fatima mobilized some of the ladies of Medina to the battlefield.
When she saw her father’s, teeth broken and bleeding she was in tears and hugged the Messenger of God. Shia and Sunni historians have narrated that during the severe time of the battle of Ohud whereat blood was flowing from the head and the face of the Prophet, the companions had tried to stop the bleeding of the wounds, to no avail. It was Fatima who then immediately burnt a straw mat and poured its ashes onto the wounds and stopped the blood from flowing. [Safinatul Behar vol.1 p140, Sahihul Bukhari vol.4 p.72]
🕯 Addressing Her Father 🕯
After the battle of Ohud, an Ayah was revealed to the Messenger of God to discipline his companions. It was customary for Arabs to call each other with their names without any title and as such they would only call the Prophet of Islam with his first name, Muhammad, the Messenger of God was also too humble to request them to address him otherwise. It was under these circumstances that the Almighty God revealed,
“Make not the calling of the Messenger among you as you are calling one of another.” 24:63
Upon the revelation of the Ayah, Muslims were commanded to address the Prophet with the title of Messenger of God.
Lady Fatima narrated, “After the revelation of the Ayah, I wondered whether I could still address my father as ‘father’ and thus I called him ‘O Messenger of God’. Upon hearing that my father immediately replied, “My dear Fatima, that rule was not for you, you call me O father for indeed this is more reviving for my heart and more pleasing your Lord.” [Ibn al-Maghazeli, al Manaqeb p367]
Thus, Fatima was the only exception of the above Ayah of which she gained part of her everlasting title ‘The Mother of Her Father`.
Fatima; the Mother of her Father
In the year 5 AH, after the Battle of al-Ahzab a new rule with regards to the wives of the Prophet was revealed.
“The Prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves and his wives are their mothers.” [33:6]
This revelation taught Muslims to respect the wives of the Prophet like their own mothers and that they were forbidden to ever marry them. Thus, none of the wives of the Prophet were ever able to remarry after the demise of the Messenger of God. To this end, every wife of the Prophet was referred to as ‘the mother of the believers’ which means as the believers could not ever marry their mother they could not possibly ever marry any of the wives of the Prophet. After the revelation of the above law, the Messenger of God said to his beloved daughter, “O Fatima. If my wives are the (spiritual) mother of the believers, then you are my (spiritual) mother.”
🕯 Etymology of the term ‘al-Omm' 🕯
The term mother is referred to in Arabic as ‘Omm` whether a direct biological mother or indirect and hence, Eve is also referred to as our ‘mother`. Linguistically, the term ‘mother` is quite similar in all different languages. Omm in Arabic, mum or mother in English, mahdar in Farsi, ma in Urdu and mama in Italian.
The term al-Omm in Arabic is defined by the renowned Arabic linguist al-Raghib “Everything and everyone who is the source of the existence of something or its rearing or reforming.” Therefore, anything that is the origin of the source of something or has a fundamental role in its existence is called al-Omm in Arabic. For instance, in Surah 43 Ayah 4 the Holy Quran is introduced to be in the Mother of the Book,
“And verily, it (this Quran) is in the Mother of the Book with Us, indeed exalted, full of wisdom.” (43:4)
The term ‘the mother of the book` in the above Ayah is meant for al-Lauh al-Mahfuz which is the source of all the divine knowledge and its producer.
The first Surah of the Quran is also called ‘Ommul Kitab’ the mother of the book for its seven Ayaat contain the summary of the entire teachings of the holy Quran and hence is the root and the origin of the rest of the Quran.
Ommah in Arabic is a community which has a common religious and spiritual goal.
In short, Omm is either a biological mother which is not gained but physically or a spiritual mother which is a title given due to some spiritual privileges and characteristics and carries similar parental rights. It is to this meaning that the Messenger of God introduced himself along with Imam Ali as the two fathers of the Muslim Ommah (community).
🕯 Fatima; the Axis 🕯
In the following I shall share with you ten reasons because of which Lady Fatima enjoyed the divine medal of ‘The Mother of Her Father’ by the Messenger of God.
We will learn that she is the symmetrical axis between Prophet-hood and Imamat.
🕯 1. The Axis of Creation
Numerous prophetic traditions state that the Messenger of God is the final cause of the creation. The Almighty God in a holy hadith says, “Had it not been because of you I would have not created the creation.” This is a well-established principle in Islamic philosophy and mysticism since the Messenger of God is the most perfect creation of God and the creation is aimed at the peak of its perfection. It is due to this fact that Fatima is the axis of creation for without her the generation of the most perfect human i.e. the Messenger of God would cease to continue. Similarly, spiritually the existence of Fatima was the cause of the continuation of Islam until the day of Judgment as I shall explain.
🕯 2. The Axis of Imamat
Fatima was the symmetrical axis joining Prophet-hood to Imamat. It was through Fatima that the blessed light of Prophet-hood was transmitted to eleven infallible Imams. I’m in awe! She is the mother of 11 infallible Imams! If the holy Mary begot one Jesus, and hence she became a truthful female, the holy Fatima begot 11 pure Imams, behind the last of whom Prophet Jesus shall pray.
🕯 3. The Axis of Ahlul-Bayt
The story of the Hadith of the Cloak is narrated by numerous Shia and Sunni narrators. Jabbir ibn Abdullah al-Ansari narrated that the Messenger of God went to the house of Fatima while he was not feeling well. Fatima received him and covered him with his Yemenese cloak for warmth and comfort. Then the Prophet of Islam brings Hasan, Husain and then Imam Ali and Fatima under his cloak with him. It was then that the angel Gibreel brought Ayah 33 of Surah 33,
“Verily, Allah willed but to purify you Ahlul-bayt….”33:33
Lady Fatima is the symmetrical axis in this story so much so that when the archangel Gibreel aims at introducing those who are under the cloak to the heavenly creatures, he states, “They are Fatima and her father and her husband and her children.”
🕯 4. The Axis of Infallibility
Since Fatima is the axis of Ahlul-Bayt she is also the axis of infallibility as indicated in Ayah 33 of Surah 33. She was the mother and the spiritual coach of all the Imams of Ahlul-bait. The infallibility, bravery and guidance of all the Imams of Ahlul-bait were inherited from their mother, holy Lady Fatima. When Khadija (S.A) was pregnant with Fatima she used to speak with her. One day when the Prophet of Islam heard his wife talking to her baby he said to her, “Gibreel has given me the glad tiding that she is going to be a baby girl and her generation will be blessed and pure and indeed the Almighty God will continue my generation from her offspring and will make them the Imams and the vicegerents of God on earth after revelation has ceased to continue.” [Rodhatul Wa’ezin vol.1 p.143]
🕯 5. The Axis of Al Mubahilah
In the last year of the life of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.W) a deputation of 60 high ranked Christians of Najran headed by Abdul Masih their chief monk-priest came and discussed with the Holy Prophet about the personality of Prophet ‘Isa (Jesus). When they refused to accept the logical reasoning of the Prophet of Islam, the Messenger of Allah by revelation invited them to a cursing challenge called ‘al-Mubahila`.
“Then whoever disputes with you concerning him (Jesus) after all this knowledge that has come to you, say: Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then we pray and invoke the Curse of Allah upon those who lie.” [3:61]
The only people the Prophet of Islam (S.A.W.W) chose to take to this vital challenge were: Imam Ali, Fatima al-Zahra, (Imam) Hasan and (Imam) Husain peace be upon them. In this challenge Fatima was the example of the child of the Prophet in ‘our sons`, the woman in ‘our women’. She was also the example of the soul of the Prophet in ‘ourselves` for the Messenger of God had said about her: “She is part of me as she is my soul in my heart.”
Of the significance of this selection the renowned Sunni scholar al-Qandoozi narrated from the holy Prophet (S.A.W.W): “Had the Almighty Allah knew more honourable people on earth than Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husain he would have commanded me to challenge the Christians with them. But He ordered me to enter the Mubahila with them (Ahlul-Bayt) for they are the best creatures.” [Yanabi’ul-Mawaddah, p.131]
🕯 6. The Axis of Imams of Ahlulbayt (as)
The Almighty God gave the glad tidings to Fatima (S.A) that 11 infallible Imams will emerge from her offspring. Thus, she was called ‘the Mother of the Imams’ and ‘the Mother of the Blossoms of Islam’ and ‘the Mother of the Light of the Imams’. It is therefore narrated from the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.W): “I am the tree and Fatima is its fruit-bearing and Ali is its pollen and Hasan and Husain are its fruits.” [Ihqaqul-Haq, vol.9 p.157]
Similarly, when Lady Fatima (S.A) delivered her eloquent sermon in the Masjidul-Nabi, Imam Ali (A.S) addressed her with the title of: “O the remaining of the Prophet-hood.” [Beharul-Anwar, vol.43 p.148]
Most importantly, the holy Fatima was the bearer and the depository of the divine secret, i.e. Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance).
🕯 7. The Axis of Faith
The Lady Fatima (S.A) is the axis of faith. It is narrated from the Imams of Ahlul-bayt (A.S) that on the Day of Judgment “she will be the scale of measuring the deeds of our lovers and our enemies.” [ al-Kharazmi, Maqtalul-Husain, p.107] Thus, she is the scale of measuring the lovers and the enemies of Ahlul-Bayt.
🕯 8. The Axis of the Sayyyeds
The holy Fatima was ‘al-Kouthar’ meaning abundant blessings. The generation of the last Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.W) has spread world-wide through his daughter Fatima. She is the mother of Millions of offspring of the Prophet from the linage of Imam Ali, Imam Hasan, Imam Husain, Imam Redha, and Imam Kadhem (peace be upon them). They are related to the Prophet of Islam (S.A.W.W) through Fatima.
🕯 9. The Axis of Intercession
The holy Fatima is the axis of intercession on the Day of Judgment to rescue the sinners from the Hell-fire. Indeed, she is called Fatima for Allah has safeguarded her and her followers from the Hell-fire. Numerous Prophetic saying indicated that she is called Fatima for Allah has prevented her and her lovers and followers from the Hell-fire. [See Beharul-Anwar, vol.43 pp.4 -18]
Jabir; the distinguished companion of the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.W) who lived long enough to visit Imam Baqir (A.S) asked the Imam to inform him of the status of his grandmother; the lady Fatima (S.A). Part of the Hadith reads:
“On the Day of Judgment people will be ordered: Bend your heads down and lower your gaze for indeed this is Fatima proceeding to Paradise. She then will ask the Almighty: O my Lord! I would like my status to be known in this Day. Thus, the Almighty Allah addresses her: O daughter of My beloved! Look back and find whoever there is a love in their heart for you or for any of your offspring to take their hands and enter them into Paradise. It is on that Day the she will be as selective as a chicken selects the good seeds over the spoiled ones. Then the Almighty Allah will address those who loved the holy Fatima (S.A): Look back and find whoever loved you for the love of Fatima, whoever fed you for the love of Fatima, whoever clothed you for the love of Fatima, whoever offered you a drink for the love of Fatima… then take their hands and enter them into Paradise. Imam Baqir (A.S) then added: On that Day none will be left, save the one who has been doubtful (about the status of Fatima), or the one who has been Kafir or hypocrite.” [Beharul-Anwar, vol.8 p.51]
🕯 10. The Axis of Granting Wishes
Although all the fourteen infallibles are the gates through whom the Almighty God grants our invocations, the Lady Fatima has a pivotal role in the granting of our wishes. Even the Imams of Ahlul-bayt when they invoked to the Almighty, they asked Allah in the virtuous name of their mother Fatima. Thus, the name of Fatima is again the central core in the recommended supplication for our needs.
“Allahuma inni asaloka be haqe fatimata wa abiha wa ba’leha wa baniha wa sirril musta’da’efi ha an to salle’a ala muhammadin wa ale muhammad. Wa an tafalla be ma anta ahlo wa an taqthia hawa`iji”
“O Allah verily I ask You by the right of Fatima and her father and her husband and her sons and the hidden secret entrusted in her (Imam Mahdi A.J) that You may Mohammad and his family and that You may do for me what You are anticipated to do and that You grant my requests.”
🕯 Mutual Affection 🕯
The affection between Fatima and her father was mutual. That means, as much as the holy Prophet of Islam loved his daughter Fatima, she also loved her father the Prophet. Thus, the demise of the Prophet of God did not have but an enormous effect on Fatima. During her short time after the demise of her father, she cried so much that according to the words of Imam Sadiq (A.S) she became one of the five most weeping people in history of mankind. Prophet Adam (A.S) after his fall wept so much that stains marks appeared on his cheeks.
Prophet Yaqoub (A.S) wept so much in the absence of his son Yusuf that he lost his eye sight. Prophet Yusuf in return also cried so much in missing his father that his fellow prisoners requested that he should cry either at night or day. Imam Sajjad (A.S) wept for the last thirty-five years of his life for the tragedy of Karbala and finally the holy Fatima wept her life away in the absence of her father the holy Messenger of God. She wept so much that Imam Ali (A.S) had to build an isolated hut for her worshipping and weeping called ‘the House of Grieves'.
The weeping of Fatima however, was not only for the physical departure of the Messenger of God from this world, she wept also for the catastrophic deviation that occurred after the Prophet passed. Her weeping was in fact a cry opposition to awaken the Islamic Ummah of the evil consequences of their wrongdoing. Fatima was fully aware that the deviation that occurred in Saqifeh would lead to the massacre of Karbala.
“As salamu alayk O you oppressed lady whose right has been usurped and her rib was broken, the one who was beaten, the lady who was truthful and martyred.”
The enemies of Islam and Ahlul-bait could not stand her opposition. According to al-Mas’oodi; the renowned historian, she witnessed that the party of Abu Bakr forced Imam Ali to pay allegiance to Abu Bakr whilst Imam Ali was refusing. [Ithbatul-Wasiya p262]
Eventually, the enemies threatened to set the house of Fatima on fire should Ali continue to refuse allegiance. Omar ibn Kattab along with his men approached the house of Ahlul-bait. He threatened that should Ali still refuse he would burn the house down and the household. Omar was reminded that Fatima was also in that house, his only reply was, “Even so…”
I would like to end my speech by narrating the tragic event of the martyrdom of the holy Lady Fatima (s.a); the part of the heart of the Prophet and the beloved mother of her father with her own heartbreaking description of the scene,
“they placed firewood at the gate of my house and then they brought fire and torched it to burn us all. I was standing behind the front door. I pleaded with them by the name of Allah and my father the Messenger of Allah to leave us alone or help us. But Omar grabbed the whip of Qunfuz; the slave of Abu Bakr and whipped my arm so hard that it bruised and marked like a bracelet. He then kicked the door against me while I was pregnant, and I fell to the floor all the while the fire was blazing in front of me and its heat was burning my face. He then slapped me so hard on my face that my earring tore my ear then I felt the pain of labor and lost my innocent baby.
