Muses appear on late sixth century Attic vases holding single flowers, an action which directs us towards the wider associations of flower picking: the purity of the sacred meadow; the virgin purity of the girls themselves; their exuberant potential for fertility and growth; and deeper themes to do with vitality, mortality and eschatological survival. These associations are of great antiquity, with analogues in Minoan culture. In the classical era, meadows and gardens were dedicated to the Muses, their shrines being often in open air sacred spaces; and they were associated with landscape and natural forces. Helicon itself, the sacred mountain of the Muses, was credited in antiquity with unusual levels of fertility. The iconographic evidence for flowers and Muses goes to reinforce the well established importance of vegetal imagery in archaic and fifth century treatments of the power of poetry to immortalise its subjects. It is an aspect of the Muses' collective identity that was expressed by the Muse-name Thalia, cognate with [thallo] and combining, in Deborah Steiner's admirable formulation, 'natural luxuriance with communal rejoicing'.

Most Beloved WWE Wrestler Tournament: Round 2 Statistics Dump
Followers: 251
Total Votes: 22,087 + 13,398 = 35,485
Times I realized I was not in-depth enough with my checking of wrestlers and forgot at least one which I only found out because I heard an old wrestler was being accused of murder and the name didn't sound familiar so I checked and it turns out he isn't included but have to remind myself that if no one mentioned him being missing from round 1, he probably isn't the most beloved anyway: once, thank god
Beloved By Gender:
We started with a split of 81.7% men to 18.3% women, which moved to 75% men to 25% women after the first round. After the second round of voting, our percentages are:
Voting Trends:
During round 2, the voting totals ranged from a low of 360 votes per day to 554, with the average rising from 387 votes per day to 462 votes per day (Also I figured out how to add a date marking line how cool is that??)
The 100%ers:
While all the 100%ers from Round 1 have since gotten a vote against them, there were a couple of wrestlers in Round 2 who got through unscathed
Billy Gunn (138 + 50)
Taz (53 + 51)
Asuka (58 + 60)

I've been thinking about this a whole lot but with wrestlers who do think is kinkier in bed?
I think we've had a similar question before, but I think the ones that were more likely to go the extra distance for a gimmick would be more experimental in other parts of their lives as well.
I know at a time Shawn Michaels really pushed the envelope with kink (mid to late 90s), Raven was likely into some darker kinky stuff, Kid/Sean Waltman, but...we have evidence for that.
I think some of them would have been cool with bringing their gimmick into the bedroom a time or two. Undertaker (omg please), Kane (bring the mask), Daddy ass/Billy Gunn, Mick Foley (all three), Al Snow, Goldust, Both Hardy Boys, The Brood, Jimmy Hart, Scott Steiner, Razor Ramon (god I hope so).

Dread by the Decade: King Kong
👻 You can support me on Ko-fi ❤️
★★★
Plot: When a film crew travels to an island, their actress is kidnapped and offered up to a giant ape.
Review: A technical marvel that changed cinema, it is also an over-long relic steeped in racism.
Year: 1933 Genre: Creature Feature Country: United States Language: English Runtime: 1 hour 40 minutes
Directors: Merian C. Cooper, Ernest B. Schoedsack Writers: James Creelman, Ruth Rose Cinematographer: Eddie Linden, Vernon Walker, J.O. Taylor Editor: Ted Cheesman Composer: Max Steiner Cast: Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, Frank Reicher, Sam Hardy
-----
Story: 1.5/5 - Sadly, anti-black racism is baked into the foundation of this tale, as is misogyny. Its dialogue is also often stiff and its characters flat.
Performances: 2.5/5 - Varies. Wray does her best as an early scream queen, but she and Cabot share little chemistry.
Cinematography: 4/5 - Some really excellent framing and camera movements that bolster the action.
Editing: 3.5/5
Music: 3.5/5 - Somewhat standard but effective.
Effects: 5/5 - Extraordinary. The use of stop motion animation, miniatures, backlighting, the Williams process, and the Dunning process was revolutionary for its time.
Sets: 4.5/5 - A delightful combination of sets, mattes, and locations. I love the jungles.
Costumes, Hair, & Make-Up: 3.5/5
youtube
Trigger Warnings:
Moderate violence
Anti-black racism (uncritical)
Anti-Asian racism (uncritical)
Misogyny (uncritical)
Animal death

after a week of being very sad and mourning i decided to go and have an afternoon out doing something nice, because damn did i need it; found out last minute that the rhode island comic con is this weekend and it'd been over a decade since my last con visit, so i went to that
it was pretty cool, the vast majority of merch was funko pops (so many funko pops) and plastic video game/anime swords, but there was a decent amount of other stuff to wander around looking at, i treated myself to a little rowlet plush
this was my first con with a celebrity autograph/photo section, so it was the most famous people i've ever seen at once: levar burton, brent spiner, paul williams, wayne knight (he's skinny these days??), jim cummings, nolan north, the entire main cast of futurama (john dimaggio's a big dude), squidward's va, the reunited cast of the '90s x-men cartoon, scott steiner (still wearing his chainmail), matt hardy, the dude who starred in the last dragon, et cetera; marisa tomei and christina ricci were also on the guest list but not present today alas
highlight was going to a small but pleasant panel featuring paul williams, it was just a chill forty-five minutes of him talking about various tidbits of his career and answering a few questions, dude is tiny and old but still truckin' pretty hard, apparently he started doing the con circuit and selling sigs/photos a few years ago specifically to raise money for a sobriety charity which is cool. he was wearing a muppet hoodie and mentioned how much he loved the muppets (gonzo's his favorite) and henson, did several lines in his penguin voice, all sorts of stuff
all in all a pretty nice little time, even if immediately after i did accidentally ride the bus to the end of the line way across town and spent an hour in a cold bus before finally making it home
#the illustrious life of owltypical#if i wasn't unemployed still i might've splurged for an autograph or something#paul williams was a very pleasant little old man#jim cummings is my voice acting nemesis and it was very weird seeing him irl as an actual human being with physical form#you could tell this was a con in ri 'cos one of the booths was for some dude who cosplays as peter griffin online a lot#comic stuff

HHH: "Are you ready? I SAID, ARE... YOU... READY?! Then, for the thousands in attendance, and the... few guys that actually follow this blog, lllllllllllllllllet's get ready to S-"
youtube
Storm: "Hold on, hold on, hold on a minute! Don't you guys have a company up north you need to be running? Now, I don't care who you are or where you came from, but around here, me and my partner Roode, we rule this tag team division!"
Micheals: "Well, funny you should say that, because if I remember right, we've ruled over all tag teams for over 20 years!"
HHH: "That's right. Maybe you guys ruled over small, lesser-known feds in your heyday, but us, D-Generation X? We're among the most iconic and legendary tag teams/stables in all of wrestling history! You can read a history book if you don't believe me."
Michaels: "Oh, that's funny! I believe I have one right now! Let's see, we got... the Road Warriors, Harlem Heat, the Rockers, the Midnight Express, the Steiner Brothers, the Hardys, Edge and Christian, the Dudleys... oh, here's us, right here! D-Generation X! It also says our name under legendary stables right under guys like the Four Horsemen and the nWo. Huh, that's two teams I was in that appear here."
HHH: "Know who doesn't appear, though? Your... what do you call your team? Beer Money? Huh... well it's no wonder no one takes you guys seriously with a stupid name like that!"
Roode: "Plenty of guys take us seriously! We were among the top tag teams in TNA's revered tag division!"
Storm: "And if you still don't believe us... we'll we can always come down to that ring and show you why we're the best! BEER!"
Roode: "MONEY!"
HHH: "Man, are you hearing these guys, Shawn?"
Michaels: "Loud and clear."
HHH: "Now, listen, "Beer Money"... you guys may have ruled the roost in one or two small time feds... but we are pro wrestling history itself! As Shawn clearly demonstrated, look up the names of any top tag team in wrestling history, we're bound to come up at least once!"
Micheals: "And if you're not down with that, we got two words for ya..."
Crowd: "SUCK IT!"

The Royal Rumble Marathon: 2004
We’re rumbling into 2004.
Spoilers for past Rumbles.
The undercard:
Evolution (Batista/Flair) vs the Dudleys in a table interference. Okay match with a Coach run-in. Evolution won.
Jon Cena interviewed by a young Josh Woods. Interrupted by Rob Van Dam.
Rey Mysterio vs Jamie Noble, accompanied by a “blind” Nidia. I loved Noble and Nidia back in the day, they were hilarious. Rey wins after mis-timed interference by Nidia.
Eddie Guerrero vs Chavo Guerrero, accompanied by Chavo Sr. Eddie wins and beats up Chavo Sr after the match. I miss Eddie, he was fantastic in the ring.
Benoit promo interrupted by ¾’s of Evolution
Brock Lesnar vs Hardcore Holly. Holly wants revenge against Brock for the broken neck he suffered after he stupidly tried to sandbag Brock. Brock wins.
Shawn Michaels vs Triple H in a last man standing match for the World championship. Hunter retains when both men are unable to answer the ten count. Lame.
Before the Rumble can begin, we have a mini-brawl between Austin, Heyman, and Bischoff.
Goldberg promo interrupted by Lesnar.
The Rumble entrants, in order of appearance:
1) Chris Benoit
2) Randy Orton
3) Mark Henry
4) Tajiri
5) Bradshaw

23) Nunzio
24) Big Show
25) Chris Jericho
26) Charlie Haas
27) Billy Gunn
28) John Cena
29) Rob Van Dam
30) Goldberg
Highlights:
Kane is distracted by an Undertaker-return psych out, is eliminated by Booker, and takes his frustration out on Spike, preventing the smallest Dudley from entering the Rumble.
Ernest Miller and his sidekick’s dancing routine in the ring (somebody call his mama!),
Foley knocks Test out and Austin orders Mick to replace Test in the Rumble – Mick beelines straight to Randy Orton.
Jericho eliminates his “good friend” Christian for a second year in a row.
Lesnar attacks Goldberg during the Rumble.
Big Show uses his rump to send Kurt Angle flying.

Arghun Khan of Persia, Kublai's great-nephew, had in 1286 lost his favourite wife the Khatun Bulughan; and, mourning her sorely, took steps to fulfil her dying injunction that her place should be filled only by a lady of her own kin, the Mongol Tribe of Bayaut. Ambassadors were despatched to the Court of Khan-baligh to seek such a bride. The message was courteously received, and the choice fell on the lady Kokachin, a maiden of 17, "moult bele dame et avenant (very beautiful lady and comely).” The overland road from Peking to Tabriz was not only of portentous length for such a tender charge, but was imperiled by war, so the envoys desired to return by sea. Tartars in general were strangers to all navigation; and the envoys, much taken with the Venetians, and eager to profit by their experience, especially as Marco had just then returned from his Indian mission, begged the Khan as a favour to send the three Firinghis in their company. He consented with reluctance, but, having done so, fitted the party out nobly for the voyage, charging the Polos with friendly messages for the potentates of Europe, including the King of England. They appear to have sailed from the port of Zayton (as the Westerns called T'swan-chau or Chin-cheu in Fo-kien) in the beginning of 1292. It was an ill-starred voyage, involving long detentions on the coast of Sumatra, and in the South of India, to which, however, we are indebted for some of the best chapters in the book; and two years or upwards passed before they arrived at their destination in Persia. The three hardy Venetians survived all perils, and so did the lady, who had come to look on them with filial regard; but two of the three envoys, and a vast proportion of the suite, had perished by the way. Arghun Khan too had been dead even before they quitted China; his brother Kaikhatu reigned in his stead; and his son Ghazan succeeded to the lady's hand. We are told by one who knew both the princes well that Arghun was one of the handsomest men of his time, whilst Ghazan was, among all his host, one of the most insignificant in appearance. But in other respects the lady's change was for the better. Ghazan had some of the highest qualities of a soldier, a legislator and a king, adorned by many and varied accomplishments; though his reign was too short for the full development of his fame.

Most Beloved WWE Wrestlers Tournament: Round 4 Statistics Dump
Followers: 266
Total Votes: 22,087 + 13,398 + 8,109 + 4,768 = 48,362
Number of times I had to force my dad to accept the fact that it's no longer the 80s and just because he enjoyed a wrestler's work during his childhood, it doesn't mean they're still the most beloved: 3, and he's still bitter
Beloved By Gender:
Our ratio is keeping pretty steady. There was a change of 2% between rounds 3 and 4 in favor of the female wrestlers.
Voting Trends:
Round 4 had a low vote count day of 534 and the highest count day of 747, making the average 636.9 votes per day (discounting final day), more than extra 80 votes per day beyond Round 3’s average of 550.8
(Keep in mind, number of brackets change on the final day)
Public Opinion:
There's fewer than 20 wrestlers left in this tournament who had successful WWE careers before the 2000s. This tournament would make Cornette's face melt off

The AJ Styles Phenomenon:
I don't know if this is just an incredible coincidence, but for the final 3 rounds, AJ Styles has earned exactly 46 votes. In Round 2, it was 46/50 against Raymond Rougeau. In Round 3, 46/56 against D'Lo Brown. In Round 4, 46/69 against Kane. Based on the data I've seen, he is the only wrestler this has happened to. A few have had the same number of votes twice in a row, but never thrice.
Which begs the question: are there exactly 46 tumblr users who are fans of AJ Styles?
