Recomendación: Royal Republic (Parte 1)

Algunos de mis amigos deben saber bien lo mucho que amo a esta banda. Los conoc�� gracias a una de mis amigas de Facebook que dijo “puede que te guste esto”. Error o no, me volví completamente fan.

Desde Malmö, Suecia, está conformada por Adam Grahn (vocalista y guitarra rítmica), Hannes Irengård (guitarra principal y voz de fondo), Jonas Almén (bajo y voz de fondo), y Per Andreasson (batería y voz de fondo).

En cuanto a su estilo musical, podría simplemente decir “garage rock/punk”, porque pues sí, básicamente su estilo gira en torno a eso, sin embargo, pertenece a mi lista de top favoritos debido a su locura por incorporar otros elementos musicales a la hora de hacer sus canciones. Por mencionar algunos ejemplos rápidos, si le dan una oída a toda su música, poniéndola, digamos, en aleatorio/shuffle, podrán encontrar destellos funk, rock’n’roll, country, surf rock, disco... Si les gustan las bandas con gran variedad, de verdad, esta podría ser para ustedes.

Sobre su historia, el destino unió a estos 4 por pura casualidad, algunos comentaron que son una “boy band”, puesto que un productor los juntó, ellos ni siquiera se conocían, no se llevaban bien, no sabían nada, pero sí habían estudiado música y sabían hacerla, así fue como empezaron algo que se ha vuelto todo un éxito en Europa.

AHORA SÍ VIENE LO BUENO, SU MÚSICA.

Generalmente prefiero escuchar desde el primer álbum o EP, hasta el más reciente lanzamiento, pero ya que estoy aquí para convencerlos(?), empezaré con el más nuevo.

Club Majesty

Lanzado el 31 de mayo de este año (2019), me trae por los cielos. Es que se los juro, benditos sean estos hombres que, de la manera más simple se las ingenian para hacer que hasta la canción más repetitiva sea un puto hit.

El día del estreno escribí un estado enorme pseudo describiendo cada canción del álbum porque puedo(?), pero al parecer sólo un par de amigas (mis queridas Despair) dejaron su reacción de “me encanta”. Así que lo vuelvo a poner aquí.

La mejor manera de describir este álbum es:

“80s vibes all over the fucking place”

El álbum en general es un orgasmo tras otro. Amo en sobremanera la voz de Adam. Se puede notar claramente todas las técnicas que empleó esta vez, creo que se verdad se lució. Él es barítono (“voz grave”), pero llegó a unos agudos que no sabía que tenía. Su voz ronca, rasposa, profunda, con mucha onda, de verdad es una de mis más grandes inspiraciones este sujeto. LO AMO.

Fireman & Dancer: muy a su estilo garage rock potenciado con mucha onda funk y disco, de eso a finales de los 70 y principios de los 80, con flanger en la voz, hasta solo de sax, está buena para brincar por ahí mientras barres la casa (??).

Can't Fight the Disco: obviamente también tiene onda disco, pero con un beat más lento que la anterior, acá hay solo de guitarra más glam rock se podría decir, a lo Def Leppard(?), y coritos del guitarrista, bajista y baterista.

Boomerang: el “uuh-huu” del principio me recuerda al de “Don't bring me down” de Electric Light Orchestra, esta es más del estilo que vienen manejando antes, bastante bailable, enérgica pero más lenta que la primera.

Under Cover: otra vez esa guitarra rítmica típica de ellos, kinda funk, empieza con mucho ritmo disco (escuchen el bajo), se suaviza y vuelve con fuerza, en el puente se intensifica la sensación disco, y la voz de Adam emula el estilo de los negros oh yeah(?)

Like a Lover: por el sintetizador al inicio creí que sería algo a lo Joywave, pero resultó ser muy blues rock a lo The Black Keys o B.R.M.C, y eso me mató porque los amo y nada más faltaba que me dieran blues, I am complete.
