It has been a long hiatus, though to me it didn’t seem to be one. Time flies. June and July have flied by so fast, and I can’t keep up, shit things happening one after the other, and I’m still coping… But it’s a process. I’m functioning now enough to write and interact on this blog.

As I promised, this first post is a list of June releases (from June 3rd) and the reviews I found about them until now. You’re all welcome to let me know if you have a review that I forgot to add.

Since July is also over, I’m also sharing this month’s books and reviews.

As always, updating is constantly happening, if you know about a book or have a review, just let me know! 😉

For the newbies (welcome 😘): if you don’t yet know what this is all about: I’m posting a list every Monday of the books that get released during the current week. I also include other people’s reviews about them! I try to do a blog hop from time to time and spread the word about this feature, but I obviously can’t find every review that’s related, so a sign that you have one would be very much appreciated! Every review is eligible that is written about a book published on the week in question, even if it was written before said week!

Star-studded tribute on Anne Shirley to air Thanksgiving weekend on television, internet

Emma Rudy is star-struck to be part of a one-hour Anne of Green Gables special that will air on the weekend of Thanksgiving. CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. "My mind is hard to wrap around."

Rudy was first cast for the 2019 Charlottetown Festival season as the famous red-head and was set to play the role again this season, which was eventually cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Fans will still be able to experience the magic by Feelin 'Mighty Proud, a special that will air on Sunday, Oct. 11, on Eastlink as well as on the centre's YouTube and Facebook pages at 9 p.m., even though Anne was kept off the Homburg Theatre stage.

The show is a celebration of the famous character Anne Shirley, created by the Confederation Centre of the Arts and named for a lyric in one of the songs from the musical, featuring up-close highlights from Anne of Green Gables-The Musical, cameos from some Canadian icons and reimagining some of the show’s big songs. Directed by Adam Brazier, the artistic director of the centre, and Jason Rogerson, it is complete of cameo appearances, including Megan Follows, who played Anne Shirley in the 1985 Anne of Green Gables mini-series and its two sequels; Amybeth McNulty and RH Thompson, who starred on Netflix in the Anne with an E show; and Gracie Finlay, who played the character at the 1968-74 Charlottetown Festival.

Also there are almost one dozen members of the Charlottetown Festival company, including Islanders Marlane O'Brien, Glenda Landry, Catherine O'Brien, Hank Stinson, Aaron Hastelow and Michelle Bouey, as well as the orchestra of the Charlottetown Festival. In a year that kept the musical off the main stage for the first time in its history, Brazier said the intent was to celebrate the character and the story of Anne.

"This is part of our long-term centre strategy," Brazier said. “We want to be active in the digital world and we want to be more active in the digital world, and this project has provided us the opportunity to start playing with it.”

The special will also include original interpretations of the famous musical's treasured songs, such as Open the Window from I and the Village, Lennie Gallant's The Words, and Gee, Meaghan Blanchard's I 'm Glad I'm No One Else But Me. All who participated in the special jumped at the opportunity to participate, Brazier said, talking about what the character Anne Shirley means to them and their relationship with the Lucy Maud Montgomery novel.

"In a way, there’d people who live in Avonlea in the documentary," he said. “It affects you and you understand that an individual like Anne Shirley may have an emotional impact, not only in the community, but on yourself.”

For this special, Rudy said her elements include some singing and scene work filmed on the main stage. Stinson will play Matthew Cuthbert 's character.

“We are filming it in a socially distant way, which was a really odd thing to do on camera,” said Rudy, who hadn’t seen the finished product. She even turned down an offer to watch the special ahead of time from the production crew.

“I am very nervous, but very excited too though. It's going to be cool after seeing the trailer and how great it feels.”

The special is not just a celebration of the P.E.I.'s connection with the characters, but a celebration of the Island itself, Brazier said. "My hope is that it will render the Islanders very proud," Brazier said.

Voyeurism of a most extreme sort was the subject of Victor Zarkoff?s ?13 Cameras,? a low-budget thriller that grew increasingly implausible as it progressed but was nonetheless tightly constructed and genuinely creepy. The sequel expands things by adding not only another camera but needless subplots, and the tightness evaporates. ?14 Cameras? becomes a flat, pointless bore, marked by poor writing and slipshod construction, as well as flat directing and amateurish acting. 14 Cameras (2018) Movie Review from Eye for Film /p>

In ?13 Cameras,? the villain, creepy landlord Gerald (Neville Archambault), simply spied on his tenants until fatally intervening in their troubled lives. It was a slim story, but for the most part was crisply staged and executed. This time around, Gerald is more of an entrepreneur who rents out a baker?s dozen of camera-equipped homes, footage from which he streams out to paying customers on the dark web.

He still, however, has his own perverted interests. He keeps Claire (Brianne Moncrief), the pregnant housewife from the first movie, imprisoned in an underground chamber, and when one of his renters, Sarah (Chelsea Edmundson), almost catches him rambling about in her house, he tosses her in as well, though he never seems to have contact with the women except for occasional trips to bathe them tenderly. In one plot thread, Sarah attempts to escape despite Claire?s warnings not to?good advice, as it turns out.

In any event, after a pointless prologue involving a couple (Zach Dulin and Kodi Saint Angelo) who simply banter for awhile before disappearing in their car, the focus shifts to a new bunch of renters: parents Arthur (Hank Rogerson) and Lori (Lora Martinez-Cunningham), their daughter Molly (Brytnee Ratledge) and her horny younger brother Kyle (John-Paul Howard), who has the hots for Molly?s friend Danielle (Amber Midthunder), their guest. Much of the movie is given over to desultory footage of them, enlivened only when one of Gerald?s customers decides to pay the girls an unwelcome visit and Gerald intervenes to protect them.

By this time, however, Junior (Gavin White), a teen who lives with Gerald (and may be the son Claire never knew), investigates what his ?guardian? has been up to and decides to save 14 CAMERAS , and the family will become engaged as well. But though Gerald?s flow of footage will halt, a coda is added to suggest there might be life in the old goat yet and the hiatus in his work output could be temporary.

Though Zarkoff wrote the script for this sequel to his surprise little succ�s d?estime, he passed directing duties along to producers Seth Fuller and Scott Hussion, who exhibit little flair for structure or pacing and are unable to draw anything but the most elementary performances from the cast, although it must be admitted that Archambault remains a menacing presence. Fuller also served as cinematographer, and shows little aptitude in that capacity either. Editor Zach Lee gives the picture no perceptible rhythm, failing to inject any excitement into what is pretty flaccid footage.
