MoS DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh to inaugurate 2 days “North East Calling” festival tomorrow
The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh will inaugurate the “North East Calling” festival, here tomorrow. The two-day “North East Calling” event is being organised by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Government of India under its ‘Destination North East series’ of this year. The purpose of the event is to promote the art, culture, heritage, cuisine, handicrafts, business and tourism of North East India. The two-day event will be held at India Gate lawns from 11.00 AM to 10.00 PM. The entry to the venue for the general public is free The event will include Music Festival for bands of North-East, Cultural Night for Dances of North-East, Handloom Demo Show presenting the clothes of North-East, Exhibitions of activities being undertaken in NE, stalls by various Central Government ministries showcasing the works being undertaken by them in the region, stalls by State Governments offering opportunities in their states, stalls for Sale of products of NERAMAC and NEHHDC, variety of food stalls including sale of delicacies of NE, contests for all sections of young population to expose them to NE, B2B Summits on Food Processing, Tourism and Start-up opportunities in the North-East. The highlights of the event for the public will be Music Festival, Cultural festival, and live band performances. The event coincides with the 16th Anniversary of Ministry of DoNER. In the run-up of to the event, a variety of contests including Photography and Caption Contest, video contest, Choreography Contest for Colleges on the theme “Connect NE”, Quiz Competition for schools and colleges, Best North-Eastern attire in the crowd, Home Chef Contest, have been organised. Ollywood starlet Archita Sahu stole the thunder as the showstopper of the fashion show, showcasing the rich textiles of Odisha, in New Delhi. She along with other models sashayed down the ramp in beautiful Odisha handloom couture by designers Pritam Panda, Divya Sheth, Shruti Sancheti and RAAS by Rashmi Mohapatra, on the second day of Odisha Parba being organised on the lawns of India Gate in New Delhi. Rashmi had earlier mentioned about her exclusive works with weavers from Sonepur, Nuapatna and Bargarh, which she would display at the second edition of the three-day festival. On her Instagram, Shruti Sancheti had mentioned about her collection, ‘Golden Chariot’, an unsurpassed legacy of weaves, craft and textiles that the exquisite state of Odisha had to offer. The fashion show made the weekend fun for Delhiites, who could not but watch the collection in awe and admiration. The show was orchestrated by Sunil Sethi, President, Fashion Design Council of India. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was the guest of honour on the second day, which was also attended by Sambalpuri poet and writer Haldhar Nag, Odissi Guru Mayadhar Rout, MP Baijayant Panda, actors Mahesweta Ray, Aparajita Mohanty and Mihir Das. Cultural programmes enlivened the evening. Odia play Mughal Tamsa and Dashavatar performance by Madhumita Raut and her disciples were the main attractions. Sculpture gallery by Sudarshan Sahoo, fine art demos and workshop, live demos by renowned Odia artists, sale and display of beautiful artifacts and exquisite handlooms, mouth-watering Odia delicacies, folk dances and music shows are some special features of the mega event being organised by Odia Samaj, a socio-cultural organisation. ‘Odisha Parba-2018’, a three day-long mega celebration of Odisha’s culture, tradition, heritage & cuisine commenced in the heart of National Capital today at Lawn No-6, India Gate, Delhi. Chief Guest on ceremony, Chief Justice of Supreme Court of India Dipak Misra, inaugurated the mega event by lighting the lamp. Among others Dharmendra Pradhan Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was also present. “I am quite delighted to be a part of Odia Parba yet again for its 2nd Edition. We have completed 200 years of Paika Rebellion and I am proud to say that I was born in Banipur which is quite famous for its Paika fighters. Let’s come and celebrate this event at the national capital which is a platform to bring together Odias and showcase our rich culture and heritage,” Justice Misra said. Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said, “The work of Odia Samaj is worth praising! This three-day festival would no doubt create a buzz as artists and vendors have been invited from the nooks and corners of Odisha to highlight our rich culture and heritage. I am glad to be a part of this event which would take even the non-odias through a journey of Odisha”. Addressing the inaugural ceremony Sidhartha Pradhan, President of Odia Samaj said, “This is the 2nd edition of Odisha Parba after the successful first. Through this festival we want to show the people of Delhi the rich culture and heritage of Odisha. People can now see glimpses of our culture through the handlooms like Sambalpuri saree, Kotpad saree etc. and mouth-watering dishes like Gupchup, katki Chaat, Pitha etc. Have a look at all our stalls and enjoy this 3 day event.” Top names from the entertainment industry of Odisha enthralled the audience. A dance show titled ‘Chota Mora Gaanti’ was performed by Guru Chandrakanta Sutar and disciples. Pancha Paika dance by Pravat Kumar Swain & group took the viewers through the journey of valour and sacrifices made by Odisha’s bravehearts, against the British oppression. On a lighter vein stand up comedy monarch Kuna Tripathy kept everyone in splits. Ghumura & Naga Nacha by Adi Sanskriti added colour and zest to the evening. Eventually contemporary and sambalpuri songs by prominent Odia singers like Abhijit Majumdar, Preetinanda and others notched up the entertainment quotient of an already magical evening, with their popular numbers and high energy. On this special occasion a coffee table book titled “Valour In The Veins- The saga of the Indomitable Spirit of Odisha” was also launched. The book will soon be available for sale on major online portals like Amazon, flipkart etc. Day 2 of the event will witness a world class fashion show, conceptualized by Sunil Sethi, President Fashion Design Council of India. It shall showcase the beautiful handlooms of Odisha in an innovative and contemporary style. Besides this another new chapter added this year is a painting competition titled ‘Aakar’ for children below 18 years. The theme of this competition is “Spirit of Odisha”. The painting competition for children shall be conducted between 12 pm to 2 pm and the reporting time is 11 am.The competition will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Sculpture gallery by Padma Shri Sudarshan Sahoo, fine art demos & workshop, live demos by renowned Odia artists, sale and display of beautiful artifacts and exquisite handlooms, mouth-watering Odia delicacies, folk dances and music shows are some special attractions of the mega event. The 2nd edition of Odisha Parba is spread over 50% more area than last year which now stands on an area of 2 lakh 60 thousand sq. ft. The entrance gate designed in the shape of ‘Dola Bimana’ replicates a common sight in Odisha, during the festival of Holi. Intricate pattachitra design is adding colours to this decorum. A grand stage setup with backdrop of historic Barabati fort is evoking the glorious past of Odisha. This year the entire food court has been designed in a fort style, reflecting the ambience of “Baarah Maasi Tera Parba”, which reflects Odisha’s passion for festivals in one calendar year. Odisha Parba is organised by Odia Samaj, New Delhi. Denizens from every nook and corner of Delhi NCR will witness the unique culture, heritage, tradition, cuisine and various other delights from this beautiful coastal state.
