Laios Statblock in PF1e

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Hair’s Breadth (Ex): At 11th level, a lore warden can attempt an Acrobatics check as an immediate action to negate a confirmation role for a critical hit. The critical hit confirmation is negated (though the attack still hits and deals normal damage) if the Acrobatics check is greater than the opponent’s confirmation roll. This ability replaces armor training 3.
Know Thy Enemy (Ex): At 7th level, a lore warden can take a standard action to study a specific target in sight. He must make a Knowledge check to determine the target’s abilities and weaknesses as part of this standard action. If successful, the lore warden not only notes the appropriate abilities and weaknesses, as detailed under the Knowledge skill on page 100 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook, but also gains a +2 competence bonus on all attack rolls and weapon damage rolls made against that enemy. Note that this bonus on attack and damage rolls applies only to that specific creature. This bonus lasts for the duration of an encounter, or until the lore warden attempts a new Knowledge check to use this ability on a different target. This ability replaces armor training 2.
Here's a Laios Statblock, capped at level 14 since that's when an Arcanist can learn stone-to-flesh. It uses the ABP rules, bumped up to its equivalent for level 16 in order to account for the little-to-no-magic-items-itis that Dunmeshi has, as the alternate rule suggests.
Safe to say, he very much is pulling off Know Thy Enemy consistently, and if you want to increase his danger-level a bit, give him an extra level to make it a swift action.
I also screwed up in his armor in my initial post. It's some kind of plate armor, can't tell if it's halfplate or fullplate. So, we have to burn a feat. And yes, that's a good 6 feats dedicated solely to Skill Focuses. I haven't gotten around to statting Kensuke as a "magic" item yet, but he'd pretty much only be useful for an extra Perception roll.
(If I do more of them, I'll probably keep it so it's inline with the Dunmeshi universe. and call humanoids humans and humans tallmen.)

Arkhenplate
Armor (breastplate, halfplate, or plate), Very Rare
Forged by dwarven hands, blessed by Moradin, this armor holds the power to turn the tide of battle. Forged in the heart of Arkhen Forge, this blue cobalt armor tells a story of strength and resilience. With veins of molten gold tracing its surface, it was reforged in the heat of battle during a desperate siege against the Underdark’s dark invaders. Blessed by Moradin himself, this armor grants unbreakable fortitude and the power to turn the tide of any fight. Who will wield the strength of the dwarven god?

BIO
(cult mention, abuse mention)
Elias was born during a devastating storm, the skies had been ablaze, the winds had been so quick on their feet they'd taken no prisoners in their path of destruction. His mother, a prisoner of sorts in a life she didn't choose and yet accepted, because she was born into it and didn't know better. Her parents' parents had already lived in these lands and had been proud members of a rather small and yet, incredibly radical cult that believed in witchcraft and the influence of the moon on the mind.
The circumstances of Elias' birth ended life for the newborn before it began. He was found a bad omen, a lost child and declared enemy of the 'new religious movement' of the Dark Rose. Usually, children like him would be discarded, but his family was part of the group of the founders of their community, so when Elias' mother begged for her son's life, they granted him ....that. But only that. Not more. And a lot less. As to not spread misfortune on the others, he was held separate from the other newborn, in a room far off.
As he grew older and began to escape from his crib, the leaders sat down to talk about his fate once more. His mother hadn't seen him in months and yet, she - again, pleaded for his life. So, the toddler was put in a cage in the dog shed. He was fed and he was groomed with the dogs, but he was alive. Some time later, a collar and shackles were added to ensure he couldn't escape the shed when they let out the dogs. Elias grew up without a name, without purpose, without a guardian in his life to show him the way. At best, he thought he was a dog and he'd never be more than that. Even the dogs had names..
He never was taught proper speech, only enough to understand basic commands, though he did pick up bits and pieces of the spoken word, but ... it made only little sense to the boy. Full moon nights and storms were the triggers Elias had to endure, because every single storm - or even bad weather was blamed on him and the full moon - they said, would have the demon within him at its strongest. For those nights, he was bound to a tree out in the forest for the entire night with only the cold and the full moon to keep him company.
During a police raid after several complaints from neighbors and anonymous calls hinting the big farm was used for drug trafficking, they found a ten year old boy with bright blue eyes and beautiful locks held in a kennel with other dogs.
They were shocked to see a boy of ten or eleven years held like a dog. He was taken to the youth welfare services in Manchester and ended up in the system for difficult to place kids due to his age and ...deficits. Adoption came with a price, therapy and responsibility to re-socialize him - his temporary name was Lukas.
Newspapers spoke about the wolf boy and an American family currently in town for business read about him. Their reputation was good, they were wealthy and pledged to pay for the extensive care the unnamed boy would need to find his way back into life. They stayed for a few months, but eventually returned home to the United States after paperwork on all ends was done.
The boy was named Elias Matthew Benjamin Hawkins.
The Hawkins owned an area by Toluca Lake - in the sunny Los Angeles. They already had a thirteen year old daughter when they invited Elias into their home. Mona Marie was hesitant at first, unwilling to share her parents with a strange boy, but she soon became protective of him, like the big sister he never had. The first year wasn't easy on anybody, but the Hawkins' were loving and gentle with the boy, they spent a little fortune on his therapy, his education and everything else he could have wished for and he worked hard, grateful for this life they offered.
A few years later, they had another daugther Sarah-Jane Louise to complete the family. (They have a thing for impressive names apparently.) That was around the time, Elias found out he .. wasn't normal. His parents handled it naturally and after a lot of wondering and then finally meeting his biological father, Elias was granted summers in Camp Halfblood - if only to learn how to control his powers.
Elias found his passion in computers, their software and hardware and went to college after graduating (only a year later than ordinary) from high school. His parents, of course, had no qualms about him striving to come far in life - build something of his own. He did.
Before he chose to follow the Call, Elias lived in his own house, not too far from home - in Venice Beach with a loft in Downtown LA as well to be closer to ihs workplace during the week. Putting work before everything else was Elias' standard setting, his ambition a constant driving force going hand in hand with his perfectionism. He never quite made it past the mental mindset that he owed his parents perfection. Success. All to repay the debt that could never be repaid.
Elias followed the call and relocated to Camp Halfblood, but instead of giving up everything he knew and loved (his work), he chose to bring it with. Surely there's wifi at Camp?

Introducing: K'atreen
K'atreen is a Seeker of the Sun and the Source's latest shard of Azem. At 10 years old, she struck out from her home with her older brother, K'ruhl, dazzled by his speeches and dreams of becoming a famous Ul'dahn merchant. After leaving their home and making it to the great city some 5 years after the Calamity, K'aty and her brother found themselves among the refugees.
K'aty often found herself missing home and wanting badly to return, but the pair had no money for transport and K'ruhl's fonts of desperation made her want to stay to support him until he realized his wish. In the end, K'ruhl became enamored with the city's nightlife, and what little money they could spare often ended up in bottles and beds.
Poor and destitute is where K'aty's story as the Warrior of Light began, with her curled up and crying in a small corner of Ul'dah. It was on that day, at 11 years old in the height of summer, that she was found by an Auri White Mage with cotton candy hair—Amity Tales.
K'aty trains as a gladiator and later becomes a Paladin, standing to protect her home and loved ones against all odds. She often ends up a confusing match in fights, a bending but unyielding shield, and left-handed to boot. Her opponents often underestimate her.
Notable Story Elements
Armor Donning: K'aty often wears her armor after the Bowl of Embers. She takes it off for casual clothes in inn rooms and her eventual home, doesn't wear her armor in the Gold Saucer, and has other short but notable times in which she has it off.
She wears full armor when others are looking for the Warrior of Light and doesn't when she's just K'aty. Around notable figures, she may be found in a casual halfplate—training with Haurchefant, for instance.
Her face is covered by full helm when her reputation precedes her personhood, visor up or with a hood when she's on duty but still regarded as K'aty, and head is bare when she can just be herself.
(cut added bc i cant delete polls and accidentally added one ;-;)

Dare: Fool’s Gold
R: “You poke it, It’s your turn.
V: I’m not going to poke it, you poke it.
R: I poked the last one, it’s your turn.
V: Well last time I poked an auspicious corpse I got turned to a statue for a week while you fuckers went on a pub crawl “looking for a healer”
R: That doesn’t exempt you from the rotation
V: I was aware the ENTIRE TIME. I COULDN’T BLINK, I am exempt on the basis of emotional trauma.
S:Hey while you two cowards were arguing I found a stick! Back Up, I’m going to poke this old shiny geezer SO MUCH
Rothan, Vosoreis, and Sindyr, Members of the Exploded Goat Adventuring Company.
Setup: While venturing through the swamp the party has discovered what appears to be a rotten corpse in untarnished golden armor. Drawn in by a trail of scattered scales in nearby streams and birdnests, they are now faced with the dilemma of whether to mess with this obviously cursed cadaver or leave it and the fabulous wealth it protects behind.
When someone inevitably DOES disturb the dead, the body will lurch up, sockets burning with green fire and in an echoing voice pronounce: K̶̺̪̲̤͛̌̌N̵̝̐̈́́̃̽Ǫ̴͚̗̩̺͂W̸̰̲̱̭̆͜ ̸̪̅̆̾̑̏̂͝T̷̍̏̈͋̀ͅH̷͖̯͖̩̣̉̊̽͜Ę̸͚͎̹̩̯̏͂͛ ̴̝̭͕̜̯͈͐͑̈́̐̂̽̂ͅB̸̺̣̝͔̝̠̔̿̇̈́͋U̸͍̻͓̼͓̍R̶̨̤̭̺̗̣̙̽̿̇̃D̶̞̬̠̼̉̽̑̇̃̓͠ͅE̶̤̲̬̣̜̱̹̾̾N̷̫̜͖̺̲͕̒̐S ̵̨̛͕͆̽͗̒͠͝Ỏ̷̡̭̬̙̯̋̔́F̶̱̾ ̶̢͍̘͚̼͍̓̌G̸̣̼̱̝̞͐́̃̆̊͝Ĺ̷͙̽̿̐O̸̙̞̽̆Ŗ̸̙͔̙̪͐Y̷̩͉̩̑̎̈̾̚͘͜ , clutching them in a vicegrip while the golden armor falls away from their rotting body and seals around their victim.
Now trapped in an a very heavy, very valuable suit of plate armor, the adventurer must now attempt to complete their current adventure while under a staggering burden, as the armor re-dons itself every time the wearer or their companions attempt to undo its claps and bindings. For its part, the corpse dissolves into swamp muck, cackling all the while.
Challenges & Complications:
The Armor is unusually heavy for its size, reducing the bearer’s speed by 10 in addition to imposing disadvantage on stealth, athletics, and acrobatics rolls. The bearer is granted proficiency with the armor ( it counts as medium) and with greatswords, but all spells cast by the bearer have a 10% chance of failing. The armor also force attunes itself, and cannot be unattuned until the corpse’s curse is lifted (more on that later)
Despite dissolving into pondscum, the spirit of the armor’s original owner still lingers, an echo of a conceited exile desperate to prove his supremacy over the wilderness. Visions of slaying great beasts, founding cities, looting great treasure will cloud the cursed character’s mind. Green fire will burn in their eyes during combat, and should they end up sleeping in the armor (a process which will grant virtually no actual rest), the party will discover their companion sleepwalking puppeted out by the spirit in an attempt to find yet more glories in the swamp that’s already claimed their life at least once.
Accomplishing some great task while wearing the armor is not enough to break the curse and remove the armor, as great deeds are worth nothing if not acknowledged by the powerful, necessitating the party being rewarded for their actions by someone of noble blood, though commissioning some kind of ballad or memorial may be enough. Alternatively the party could find someone to cast dispel evil and good and remove curse in quick succession. Once freed, the armor will fall to pieces, leaving behind a small fortune in gold plating and an actually worthwhile set of mithril halfplate.

Fuck it. Post about everyone's fighting style.
Khalmeer - Khal is a walking tank, thanks partially to his preference for halfplate but also because dragon beastborn's scales are special in that they exhibit defensive properties against magic. (This isn't exclusive to dragon beastborn but it is most common with them) Usually wielding some type of two handed weapon into battle he takes on enemies through a mix of swordplay and brute strength. He excels at skirmishes and the 1v1 but too many foes at once can quickly overwhelm him. (Though that's where his partner comes in to help)
Additional details - Khalmeer knows some combative spells but doesn't like using them, if an opponent appears to be especially tough or troublesome though he prefers enchanting the weaponry he has.
Vanith - Vanith's role is very simple and much more focused on support, he takes out opponents from far-mid range with his bow, he doesn't like engaging in close quarters combat but he keeps a hatchet at the ready along with having training in hand to hand combat. Vanith by himself wants to be as quick as possible, taking enemies out before they can get close to him. Working in tandem with Khalmeer however he perfectly compliments Khalmeer's more aggressive style, picking off stragglers and reinforcements at every opportunity.
Additional details - Sometimes Vanith's role as a support is much more literal, a lot of the magic he knows revolves around healing as Khalmeer does sustain wounds despite how tough he may seem.
Lupin - Lupin isn't as much a fighter as he is reconnaissance but Gregory did show him a few things when they worked together more commonly. With his rapier, quick movements and a bit of dirty fighting he can defend himself long enough to give himself an opportunity to run at least. His skills as a performer aren't wasted in combat either, he can gracefully dodge the attacks of enemies while sneaking his own in.
Additional details - Lupin is one of the few characters I have that doesn't know magic, to make up for it though he has a silver tongue and years of life experience that keep him afloat in more chaotic social landscapes.
(I'll update this some more later! Going to town now to do some shopping!)

AU: Questgiver [High Fantasy/Full DnD]
(aka ‘something I should have written a long time ago’)
The city of Agorith is a bustling metropolis built around a towering castle that sits atop a large hill. It’s a port city, surrounded on most sides by thick walls patrolled by guards in halfplate. The city itself sits on the far western edge of the country of Iestia, wedged between the Astwin Peaks and the Galden Expanse, a wide, treacherous ocean that few have crossed over completely.
The city itself is split into districts, kept separate from one another by slightly thinner walls and wide gates, just in case one needs to be closed off from the others due to an attack. Agorith is almost circular, and these inner walls are like the spokes of a wheel. Most of the city’s people live inside the walls, yet some have made their home outside, along the water’s edge. There are talks of expanding the wall to also protect this small, fishing village-like group of homes, but they’d need to start another quarry to begin work on it. The city’s districts are as follows:
The Castle District: It’s... exactly what it says on the tin. Houses Castle Schriten, the ‘spoke’ of the wheel that is Agorith. The political district, built on the hill.
The Seaspray District: The westernmost district. Encompasses the harbour and holds most of the city’s larger shops. Essentially a financial/warehouse district.
Drollek Square: North of Seaspray. Most of the merchants live here. Ther houses are quite well-maintained and colourful.
The Windward District: The Northernmost district. A district devoted to the study of magic and the training of battlemages, Agorith’s greatest export besides sea salt and fish. Home to the Windward Academy, where most of those battlemages are trained, and the Alphecca Academy, an even larger school geared toward other magic users.
Temple Square: Obviously home to all of the city’s temples. There are quite a few, even to gods that aren’t that common in Iestia. one of the main roads into Agorith enters into the city through the temple district. Home to the city’s Circle of Healers as well.
The Steel District: Easternmost. Home to most smiths and guards and military barracks. A main trade road enters into the city through here, and is often used to cart in metals mined out of the Astwins.
Castleton (Or Castle Town): So named because nobles tend to live here. Instead of a full ‘slice’ of the city, it’s a long band between the Steel District and Drollek Square, tucked behind the Temple District.
Russet Walk: The largest chunk of the city’s population lives here. Middle-class homes and smaller businesses.
The Shore District: Southernmost. It’s the smallest of the districts, geared toward inexpensive housing. There aren’t a lot of lower class citizens in Agorith. A lot of the folks who live in the Shore District are just there because the housing is cheap and they’re trying to save up to buy a house in Russet Walk.
Special Mention: The Cemetery District: Outside of the ‘spoked wheel’, attached to Temple Square is a large, walled cemetery. Most of the city’s dead go here, to be buried in whatever way their faith dictates.
Special Mention: Brassdock: Not an official part of the city yet, it’s that little fishing village that’s sprung up outside of the south wall.
In terms of culture, Agorith is a mishmash. It’s a typical port city. There aren’t any specific cultural districts, but if you travel the city you can point out there the dwarves tend to live, and the elves tend to live, and the tieflings tend to live, places with different decor and architecture and food and sounds.
The city is, on paper, part of Iestia. The truth is, they’re only part of Iestia as part of a deal. They train battlemages for the Monarchs, the Monarchs leave them to their own devices and allow trade. Every so often they’ll send representatives to speak with Magistrate Arkwright, but not much changes. They have their own laws, separate from Iestia’s. These laws are geared specifically toward the fact that Agorith is an absolute haven for mages. Well over half of the population can use magic in some form. It’s... a powder keg of a place.
So, Esmond. Magistrate Arkwright. He’s the one that built the castle well over six centuries ago. He’s still a lich. An elven lich. He makes no attempt to hide it from his citizens, though the rest of Iestia tends to think it’s just a conspiracy theory because mages are fuckin’ weird, man. It is known, however, that necromancy is legal in Agorith. It’s heavily regulated and relies on donor bodies, but it’s legal. In fact, most of Iestia’s exiled necromancers (i.e. ones who haven’t done anything illegal, but have shown a gift for it and therefore must be Removed) end up living on the grounds of Castle Schriten, taught how to control their gift by a lich who made a pact with the god of their craft. It’s the best place they can end up, honestly.
#au: questgiver [high fantasy]#instead of feeding his phylactery on those who come to attack his citizens#he tends to feed it with the souls of those proven without a doubt to be guilty of heinous crimes#i also kind of want to have an au where he's the court wizard to a king
