Summary : Hyun-ju can't stand seeing you wasting your time and energy into someone who doesn't deserve you in the slightest, she wishes you could see that the perfect one for you is her.

Hyun-ju and you have been best friends for years now. You met in college when you had to team up with someone for a project and you two ended up alone, looking at each other in a "guess we have to do this together" kind of way. Your energies matched really well and you ended up spending all your time with her.

It's safe to say Hyun-ju has been questioning herself for a while now, the way she feels about you seems to have changed recently. And by recently, we could actually say "those last few years". She's feeling butterflies in her stomach when you laugh or when your hands brush against one other. She's blushing when you compliment her or when you help her with makeup, having your face really close to hers. Most importantly, her heart literally drops every time you mention a new partner, or even just a date. It's now hard to deny that her feelings for you grew.

Lately, you're being more distant with her and her heart simply aches. It started a few months ago, when you started dating them.

Hyun-ju already had several occasions to meet your partner and the least to say is that she despises them. It's not even the fact they're taking you away from her or making anything more than friendship possible between the two of you, it's their behavior. You've seen each other in different ways, at the restaurant with friends, at the karaoke, at one of your friends' house to hang out and more. And there wasn't a single time where they didn't give Hyun-ju the ick. From the way they speak to you to the way they constantly dismiss your feelings, your best friend just couldn't stand it.

Of course, the fact they now try to keep you away from all of your closest friends is not helping her to like them in the slightest. She only hears about you when you let yourself go and need to rant about how exhausted this relationship gets you.

Hyun-ju hears her phone ringing and smiles seeing your name on the screen, a smile that will quickly fade away.

— Hyun-ju..? You say between two sobs.

— y/n ? What's going on ? Why are you crying ?

— Hyun-ju I'm so tired...

Of course you didn't need to say more for Hyun-ju to understand what happened and she frowns, her heart aching at the way your voice keeps breaking between each word.

— Are they still here ? Do you want me to come over so I can help you relax ?

— They told me they didn't want to see me for now, I guess they won't come back for a while... I'd love to see you now Hyun-ju, if it doesn't bother you.

Hyun-ju lets out a slight chuckle hearing this last sentence. "If it doesn't bother you", actually she'd drop the whole world to come wrapping you in her arms.

— Give me a few minutes and I'll be there, it's gonna be fine, love you.

In the spawn of a few minutes, Hyun-ju arrives at your door, knocking gently not to startle you. You open the door and let yourself go in her arms. You're holding so hard onto her, it looks like you want to merge with her. You keep crying against her shoulder, unable to form a single word. But Hyun-ju understands, she always understands. She's the sweetest soul you've ever met, her empathy being one of her biggest qualities.

Her chin is resting on your head, one of her hands playing with your hair slowly and gently and her other hand tracing circles on your back in the softest way.

— Shh, it'll be fine, don't worry. She says that so delicately, she sounds so sincere, for a few seconds you feel like you can trust her words.

You finally relax in her arms, the sobs stop and Hyun-ju pulls away gently to look at you. She cups your face and uses her thumbs to wipe away the tears stains on your cheeks.

— Feeling better?

— Kind of... Thank you Hyun-ju. You manage to address her the tiniest smile, which warms her heart considering the state you were in a few minutes ago.

She takes your hands in hers and looks at you with a serious look on her face, you know what she's about to say, you don't really want to hear it but you know deep down she just wants what's best for you.

— y/n... This has to stop. How many more times will I have to find you in that state ? You're an adult, you can make your own decisions, I know it, I'm not your mom, I know it too. But what kind of friend would I be if I'd just approve of all this?

You nod briefly.

— I'll be fine Hyun-ju, it's okay, I'll be strong and it'll be fine, right? The tone of your voice is so desperate

— Whatever you say... She sighs. Just know I'm there, okay?

You nod once more and she gives you one last embrace before pulling away. Her heart aches so much seeing the state you're in and she wishes she could make you open your eyes about your situation. She wishes she was allowed to take you away from all of this to protect you forever, but she can't cause you won't let her.

— You deserve better, you know?

You don't answer her. You know. Deep down you know she's right. You know you never did anything that justify treating you like that. And maybe, just maybe, what happened today actually made you understand you should do something about it.

— You need some rest, you should sleep now, I'll go back home, do not hesitate to call if you need anything, okay? Her tone is so gentle, you always loved that about her, the way she makes everything sound so easy, the way she cares, the way she's the softest when it comes to you.

That night, Hyun-ju lays in her bed, looking at her ceiling and thinking about you. It hurts her so bad.

— Why can't you see that the perfect one for you is me... She mumbles to herself.

She knows she can treat you like the princess you are. She wants to be able to take you in her arms at night to help you fall asleep. She wants to give you the sweetest kiss ever when you doubt yourself before pampering you with compliments and reassurance. She wants to take you on dates, she wants to be able to go see her friends with you and show her how much of a perfect sweetheart you are. She wants you. More than anything, she wants you.

One week later, you actually do it. You finally leave your partner. As expected, it doesn't go so well. There was a lot of screaming, yelling, bad words etc. You are sobbing hard, yet, it feels like a heavy weight has been lifted from your shoulders. Of course you couldn't stay in the apartment you shared with your partner, so you head where you know you're always welcome.

The door opens a few seconds after you knock and you throw yourself in Hyun-ju's arms. She holds you, knowing what probably happened considering the suitcase that's right behind you. As heavy as her heart feels when she hears the sobs coming from you, she can't help feeling relieved, "finally" she thought.

— It's over Hyun-ju, it's over.

She rests her chin on your head, caressing your hair with one hand and your back with the other. She holds you close. She wants you to feel protected in her arms, she wants you to understand there's nothing to fear when she's around.

A few minutes later, after you manage to calm down a little, the two of you end up on her couch, talking about the whole situation.

— I'm so proud of you, you know. I know it took some courage to do that. But that was the right thing, I promise. You deserve someone who will treat you as you deserve. Hyun-ju made her own chest ache with those words. She wanted to scream that she can treat you like a princess, that she will give you everything you want and need.

— Do you think that will happen..?

— Why wouldn't it? She grabs your hands in hers delicately. Have you ever considered your worth? You're the sweetest person I know. You care for others like no one else. I think you don't consider yourself the way you should, that's why you let the wrong people love you. But I promise you there are so many good people out there that would give you the world. "Fuck it" she thinks. I would. I would give everything I have to make you smile. I want you to feel like the most precious human being that ever walked on this planet, because to me you literally are. Seeing you with the most pathetic person ever for all this time drove me insane. And whatever happens in the future, I'll be there, making sure this never happens again.

You look at her, slightly confused. Did she really confess to you, right now?

And suddenly it all makes sense. The way she looks at you when you see her. The way the biggest smile appears on her face as soon as you laugh. The way she would always squeeze your shoulder with a faint smile when your partner would make such a nasty comment while she was around. The way her eyes always fill with stars when your gazes meet.

And in all honesty, all that attention, all this care, you couldn't say it didn't do something to you. You couldn't ignore how whenever anything happens, the first person you want to share about it with is Hyun-ju, not even your partner. You can't deny how hot your cheeks get when she shows you that huge smile of hers when she feels truly happy. And you wonder for a second "do I have feelings for her that I've been hiding because I was already with someone?".

— Please say something... She says, not letting go of your hands. Her eyes are glowy, she's starting to regret confessing to you when she only sees you looking at her in confusion.

— Hyun-ju... I... Do you really mean that? Well, you know she does, but the truth is you don't even know what to say.

She smiles, tears start filling her beautiful eyes.

— I've never been more sincere in my entire life. I love you, I truly do and if it's too early right now, after breaking up, I can wait for you for as long as needed. And if the feelings aren't mutual, it's fine too, as long as I can still have you by my side, anything you choose is fine to me because I love you. And loving you means I want what's best for you, whatever it is and as long as it doesn't hurt you. The look she gives you right now, you could melt. You can see all the love in the world in her eyes right now, she's looking at you like you're the most precious treasure ever, and you probably are to her.

You don't know if it's the adrenaline, but you cup her cheeks in your hands, slightly wiping away the few tears that managed to escape her eyes when she just talked.

— Can I kiss you? You can't believe you just said that.

She gives you that one smile, the one that always gets you.

She closes the gap between you, locking your lips together in the most gentle way. You can feel all the love she puts into it, never in your whole relationship you've felt this much love and care towards you.

The kiss is reassuring, comforting and seems to free you from every single problem for a few seconds.

You finally pull away, looking right into her eyes.

— You know, I don't want you to think I'm doing this to fill a sort of post breakup void. I truly wanted to kiss you, because God I love you Hyun-ju, and I wish I had the courage to tell you earlier, to leave them earlier.

— Better late than never, right? She says that with a slight chuckle, pulling you into another kiss.

And just like that, you realized, the perfect one for you is her.

“i don’t hate trans people but i don’t want to see them on media!”

stfu honestly. as a trans guy living in a transphobic country where i am at risk of going to jail if i try to transition or went straight to the psych hospital, here’s my story.

since 11 years old i was thinking “i may be a trans man” but i always shut those feeling down. i had zero courage to admit it to myself. each year passes by, i go back and forth with “i’m transgender” to “yeah, no, i just need to love myself more”. but year after year despite changing my looks i keep struggling. more and more, at the age of 20 i don’t know who i am anymore. i masked so hard that i forgot who i am truly. i don’t know anything about my future, i don’t want to exist. i m 1 step away of unexisting myself.

and i watch squid game 2. i see hyunju. strong, beautiful and amazing human being. despite all the struggles she’s trying her best to keep going. and she became my final push to finally finding myself. finally admitting who i am. and that there’s nothing wrong with me. so basically seeing her on screen saved my life literally.

character like her is what all people. especially trans people need. because representation like her make sure that we’re not alone. we’re not freaks, we are people. strong, shy, beautiful, vulnerable, loud, quiet PEOPLE.

a/n: trying my hand at this … this would be the first time i write any existing characters alone, so bear with me .. im definitely not the best at this (also never posted on tumblr before … expect awful layouts)

If Hyunju could decipher anything, it’d be the blood rushing to her head - a pulse thudded in her temples, unrelenting and loud. For a moment, her world swayed and oscillated, and she would’ve rubbed her eyes had she been in any better state of mind, had her hand been anywhere but in Youngmi’s hand.

She gripped and she squeezed and she pulled. The skin where her fingers met Youngmi’s was warm (albeit sweaty) — until it wasn’t. As Hyunju stumbled into the room and pushed everyone else in, her palm was empty and her fingers searched for something that wasn’t there but should’ve been there.

The clock ticking down to their possible death was loud, a fitting addition to the pound, pound, pounding in her head. “ .. Youngmi? “ She dared to rasp when she searched for the girl’s face, for those big, brown doe eyes only to be met with the horrified expressions of the rest of her team.

And so, she swung her head around to the door. There were people running and screaming and pushing, desperate to see another day.

(She’d comment on their greed, on how if they’d simply chosen the better choice, they wouldn’t be sobbing for life - but she’d be hypocritical, a blue Velcro circle stuck to the side of her chest like a trophy. It sat where her heart should be, and she thought it fit - her heart must be rather cold to draw her fingers to that button, to direct her eyes to meet Youngmi’s from the other side of the room. The wrong side of the room. Her heart must be far, far from warm to betray her promises. )

Hunched on the floor was her missing girl. Her hair was messy, bordering on matted. Sweaty bangs stuck to her forehead (on which Hyunju’s lips fit perfectly against) and her eyes were wide. Hyunju had always loved Youngmi’s eyes - but not like this. Youngmi’s eyes were big and bright, holding galaxies in the tawny of her irises. Right now, they harbored something more akin to a dying star.

“ Youngmi!!— “ Hyunju nothing but screamed. 3. She lurched forward for the fallen girl, who staggered up only to fall again. 2. There was a hand around her arm. 1. She was in the room again, a man that didn’t belong replacing Youngmi. Her Youngmi. Her Youngmi that was supposed to be in here with them, but she wasn’t. By the time Hyunju had processed it all, there were gunshots. They were piercing and loud and scary and cruel, and Hyunju forced herself up and to the square slot in the center of the door, pushing her face against it, looking for any sign of Youngmi.

All she could see was blood, red pooling on the floor as the guards stored away corpses into boxes and heaved them off like they were nothing. She couldn’t see Youngmi.

She must be in another room. (Realistically, there was no way she was alive. Hyunju’s stomach sunk as it settled in.)

AGHH im so sorry that’s it for now ,,, it’s WAY too late at night and I wanted to get in something just in case this ended up an unfinished project. I have more of this saved in my notes so if this does well and people want more then the second part should be up soon.^_^ gootnite

anyway talia and i watched squid game season 2 and no shade to gihun and his gang of fruity marines but i was actually so unhealthily invested in hyunju, youngmi, geumja and yongsik. i was literally so stressed the entire season bc whenever they were on screen i was anticipating the worst :')

love how hyunju ended up as essentially their leader and kept them calm and steady through so much. she genuinely is just a phenomenal character and treated so well by the narrative. i love that she broke stereotypes and conventions, i love that even tho she lost so much she was still kind and willing to see the best in ppl, i love that she got to shoot like 80 guards in the finale and she didn't miss a single shot 💅 DKGJH and geumja also just being like "im ur mom now" 😭 omfg the found family dynamic with these four was serving SO hard !!!

Please explain squid game season 2 to me (its my entire dash atp and I dont want to be confused anymore😭)

CONSIDER IT DONE!!! spoiler warning because i kinda have to spoil the stuff that happens to explain it... had to put a cut because i accidentally wrote an essay

ok so, to talk about season 2, i have to explain season 1 first... so there's this sad little sap named seong gihun and he gets approached by this REALLY REALLY SEXY GUY and the sexy guy is like "yo gihun you're broke as fuck, let's play this game from your childhood and if you lose i slap you. but if you win, i give you money". so gihun's like "ok word i love money" (he has a gambling addiction).

after like, several hours of getting slapped, gihun FINALLY beats the sexy guy but bum bum BUMMMM the sexy guy gives him a little card!! and then gihun calls the number on the card and the voice on the phone is like "STATE YOUR NAME AND BIRTHDAY" so gihun does and then he gets a location ok blah blah ANYWAYS BASICALLY GIHUN GETS CONSENSUALLY KIDNAPPED AND WAKES UP IN A ROOM WITH A BUNCH OF OTHER PEOPLE

OMG IT IS THE SQUID GAME (rich people round up a bunch of people in debt and make them play kids games. they die if they lose. they're in it for the money because the winner gets like... i think 46.5 billion won, which is 31 million usd)

gihun ends up winning because he has plot armor and at the end of the first season, we get a face reveal for the guy who's running the SQUID GAME ... it's this really sexy dilfy lookin old guy named inho...

ok so cut to season 2. gihun has been trying for three years to stop the squid games with the help of this former detective named junho (inho's brother) and the guys gihun used to be in debt for. gihun ends up being like "ok word im just gonna do the squid games all over again" so he does because he's a silly goose!!!

so he wakes up. yay. good morning gihun. uhm... there are these two guys named thanos and namgyu (the love of my life. my pookie bear. my baby. my prince. my lovely sweet beautiful obsessive amazing fruitcake junkie boyfriend) and they're participating in the games because they invested all of their money in this STUPID BAKA LOSER IDIOT!!!!!!!'s bitcoin.... aforementioned stupid baka loser idiot is named myunggi and guess why he's in the games... HIS EX GIRLFRIEND. PREGNANT EX GIRLFRIEND. IS ALSO THERE. PLAYING THE GAMES PREGNANT. BECAUSE OF HIM. BECAUSE HE LEFT HER. PREGNANT. ALONE. FOR 6 MONTHS. sorry i hate myunggi

there's also this guy named daeho and he's a former soldier and he is so cutie patootie he's very autistic coded and then there's the other loml my wifey hyunju she's ALSO a former soldier like special forces like she was a sergeant she's so beautiful anyways she's in the games to fully transition uhmmmm there's also youngmi and minsu and semi and GYEONGSU and jungbae there are a lot of important characters

ok anyways basically gihun joins up with his irl best friend jungbae, junhee (the pregnant ex-gf), daeho (the ultimate pookie bear), and bum bum BUM this guy named youngil (who is actually inho/the frontman mascarading as a player). the games kinda just commense as usual; gihun's all like "GUYS STOP IT STOP YOU'RE KILLING EACH OTHER FOR MONEY" and some people are like "YEAH THIS IS REALLY BAD" and then people like namgyu and thanos are like "yeah but like we need this money really bad we're desperate" so yknow arguments and fighting ensue, people die, it sucks but it's squid game

and THEN... after the third game (i think).... they do a vote... (they've been doing votes every night as to whether people want to stay or go)... the vote is tied... oh no... thanos and namgyu try to convince this poor little guy named minsu to vote to stay and this fucking CUNT. THIS ASSHOLE. THIS STUPID IDIOT BLOKE myunggi is all like "stop coercing him" and thanos and namgyu are like "we weren't doing that" and then namgyu brings up junhee and thanos is like "im gonna break of your finger (myunggi's) and fuck your ex with it she's gonna love it" so myunggi fucking SWINGS and then it starts a big fight in the men's bathroom between the people who want to stay and the people who want to live and thanos fucking DIES but he dies really sexy but it's still really sad

and then uhmmmmm they turn out the lights and namgyu goes batshit because he's really really really high and also really sad (his boyfriend is dead ok) and he kills a couple people (he looks really hot doing it sorry sorry) and then they turn on the lights and gihun is like "YO YO YO WADDUP BITCHES WE'RE STAGING A COUP" and then wifey hyunju somehow gets a gun i dont remember how and the people who wanted to leave steal a bunch of guns from the guards and then hyunju teaches everyone how to use guns and she looks absolutely fucking stunning doing it

anyways blah blah they get a group of people (the people i can remember are gihun, inho/youngil, daeho, hyunju, jungbae, i think 256 i don't remember his name, and then 4 other guys). so hyunju goes with pretty much everybody besides jungbae and gihun, and they're going to like break into the UP which is where the bad guys are so they disappear and then at some point youngil/inho is like "me and these two guys are gonna go help jungbae and gihun" and hyunju's like "ok word i'll hold down the fort" so youngil/inho and those two guys disappear

uhmmm time passes guards die shooting happens uhmmm everyone starts running out of ammo and poor daeho my sweet baby angel is having like a massive ptsd attack but he's still trying to trek through and hyunju is like "NEED AMMO" and daeho's like "WORD I GOT YOU SHAWTY" so he goes to get the ammo and then he doesn't come back and then everyone runs out of ammo so it's down to hyunju, 256, and these two other guys and hyunju is like "i need to find daeho brb" and 256 is like "ok" and then 256 and the other two guys die almost immediately after BUT HYUNJU'S ALIVE SO YAY

anyways gihun and jungbae are shooting and shit pew pew guards dying and inho/youngil is like "im going the other way" and gihun is like "omg ur the best thank you bro" but then when he's out of sight inho/youngil KILLS THE TWO GUYS HE WAS WITH and he uses the fuckinnggggg walkie talkies to talk to gihun and he's like "sorry bro" and gihun is liek "wait what" and then youngil/inho gets back in his frontman get up and appears and KILLS FUCKING JUNGBAE. and i think he takes gihun hostage but the season ends there and i have to wait until FUCKING JUNE TO FINISH THE SHOW!!!!!!!

if namgyu dies you will never hear from me again... same goes for hyunju and daeho... i am so not ready

Hi guys, I'm Anna, and this is my first blog post, let's say, introductory.

I'm 21 years old, I've been in the Sims world since I was about 12 years old, I started with my favorite Sims 2 :)) But, it was always such a child's game, I never had any thoughts of leading a dynasty and even more so inventing stories for characters, so, for the last half a year I have been actively engaged in Sims, inspired me to this huge number of videos with beautiful buildings, streams of different players, and all this together gave me such a kind of kick under one place ahahaha

Wait, the post is introductory, right? I will tell you about myself that I am studying at a Medical university in the third year, it seems like I am doing everything, studying or my hobby does not cause me any inconvenience, I know how to combine it all competently

I hope we will become friends and you will not be strict about my beginner works in this field, so far I only create characters, I am inspired by pictures from Pinterest or even tick current, and I do it in my own style, and it seems to me that they come out pretty good, don't you think? LGBTQ+ Movies I Watched Recently (Part 2)

Happiest Season (2020) dir. Clea DuVall

Short Summary: Abby plans on proposing to Harper when they visit Harper’s family for the holidays. Her plans get derailed when she learns that Harper hasn’t come out to her family yet.

Why you should watch it: Not gonna lie, Mackenzie Davis drew me to this movie; I’ve been in love with her ever since San Junipero came out. Add Kristen Stewart, Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy to the mix and I’m sold. If you want a sapphic romance with a happy ending, this one’s for you. 

Été 85 (2020) dir.  François Ozon

Short Summary: Alexis recounts his six-week love affair with David during the summer of ‘85. 

Why you should watch it: If you love 80s aesthetic and music, you definitely should watch this. The movie made me nostalgic of that decade and I wasn’t even alive back then! It’s a whirlwind summer romance reminiscent of Call Me by Your Name but with a more devastating twist.

Getting Go: The Go Doc Project (2013) dir. Cory James Krueckeberg

Short Summary: An obsessed college boy pursues his internet crush through the pretext of making a documentary about him.

Why you should watch it: The script and the acting are the one-two punch of this film. The writing is incredibly genuine, and both of the actors’ performances made the lines feel even more natural. I’m not the biggest fan of mockumentary-style films, but this one felt like it was a recording of my own life. Hyper-obsessive college grad with a Tumblr blog? Might as well have called out half the population of this damn site.

Pihalla (2017) dir. Nils-Erik Ekblom

Short Summary: Miku and Elias find themselves, and each other, during a summer in the Finnish countryside.

Why you should watch it: I’m a sucker for gays in the countryside™ and although this one is not quite up there with God’s Own Country and Call Me by Your Name, it still makes for a good watch. Miku as a character and his relationship with his parents was chaotic and fun. His relationship with Elias felt really natural and dreamy. 

You, Me and Him (2017) dir. Daisy Aitkens

Short Summary: Olivia, a mature responsible lawyer, wants to have a baby, but her girlfriend Alex isn’t ready for the responsibility. Things get even more complicated when their flirty neighbour, John, joins the picture. 

Why you should watch it: It is one of the most feel-good lesbian romcoms I have seen in a while. But I warn you, there are some dark parts that can really sneak up on you. Yeah, it’s hilarious, but damn it made me ugly cry, too. Oh, and if you want to see David Tennant as an alpha male douchebag, here’s your chance. (CW: **spoiler alert** p̶r̶e̶g̶n̶a̶n̶c̶y̶ ̶l̶o̶s̶s̶ )

Giant Little Ones (2018) dir. Keith Behrman 

Short Summary: Franky and Ballas have been best friends since childhood, both on the swimming team, both incredibly popular. But after an incident during Franky’s birthday, they quickly fall apart and Franky falls from grace.

Why you should watch it: I think the film captures just how tumultuous coming-of-age stories are. Franky is going through his own journey of self-identity, and I’m happy that the movie didn’t rush in with labels. The conversation Franky has with his dad at the end also hits hard.  (CW: physical assault, allusions to sexual assault)

Our Love Story (2016) dir. HyunJu Lee

Short Summary: A fine arts student meets an attractive bartender, and the two women begin an intimate relationship.

Why you should watch it: It’s a very intimate love story that isn’t rushed or dragged out for too long. We definitely see Yoon-Jo and Ji-Soo’s relationship bloom from start to end, but it’s not mind-numbingly boring to watch. Raw and unembellished, I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a realistic portrayal of wlw romance.

Die Mitte der Welt (2016) dir. Jakob M. Erwa

Short Summary: The film follows Phil and his relationship with his family, his best friend, and a newcomer at his school, Nicholas.

Why you should watch it: This is technically a second watch for me, and I’m glad I rewatched it, because I was able to catch some glaring red flags that I missed the first time. I love this movie in spite of all the heartache it caused me. The story, especially the deal with Phil’s family, struck a chord in me. And the shots! Visually stunning as well! 

Les Amours Imaginaires (2010) dir. Xavier Dolan

Short Summary: Marie and Francis’ friendship is put to the test when a beautiful boy called Nicolas comes between them. 

Why you should watch it: Watch it for the visuals -- the colors, the costumes, the cast. Seriously, the actors included here may as well be kept in the Louvre: Xavier Dolan, Neils Schneider, Monia Chokri, hell, even a cameo from Louis Garrel! Dolan said it himself that this is a shallow film, but it’s worth the watch just to see Neils Schneider wearing heart-shaped glasses.

Closet Monster (2015)  dir. Stephen Dunn

Short Summary: A creative and driven teenager is desperate to escape his hometown and the haunting memories of his turbulent childhood.

Why you should watch it: Right off the bat, I am going to say that this film is dark. I tried watching it back in college but tapped out within the first ten minutes because something traumatic happens. Then I tried again about a week ago, finished it this time. It’s actually a very moving film. It’s violent and gory in some parts, but also ridiculous and wholesome in other parts. IT HAS A TALKING HAMSTER NAMED BUFFY! BUFFY WAS THE STAR OF THIS MOVIE FOR ME. (CW: gay bashing/sexual assault)

Straight Up (2020) dir. James Sweeney

Short Summary: Todd and Rory are intellectual soul mates. He might be gay but she might not care.

Why you should watch it: The dialogue in this film is undeniably sharp and witty. Loved the fast-paced back and forth between the two main characters as they discuss relationships, sex, gender, and more. James Sweeney and Katie Findlay’s chemistry just pulled you into the screen. It was funny, it was sweet, it was heartwrenching, it was great! (CW: allusions to sexual assault)

Latter Days (2003) dir. C. Jay Cox

Short Summary: A promiscuous gay party animal falls for a young Mormon missionary, leading to crisis, cliché, and catastrophe.

Why you should watch it: I saw this in santiagonex’s top 20 LGBTQ+ films with happy endings, and I honestly thought it was gonna be a feel-good watch. Instead, I got a rollercoaster melodrama filled with early 2000s gay culture, religious guilt, buttcheeks, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Needless to say, I got more than I bargained for. (CW: self-harm, conversion therapy)

The Old Guard (2020) dir. Gina Prince-Blythewood

Short Summary:  A covert team of immortal mercenaries are suddenly exposed and must now fight to keep their identity a secret just as an unexpected new member is discovered.

Why you should watch it: Okay, I was debating whether I should include this here, because it’s not necessarily an LGBTQ+ film as much as it is an action film with queer characters. I decided to include it, because JESUS! I have never seen such respectful and well-written representation of queer characters and relationships. Joe and Nicky are the most unproblematic couple in history. PERIOD. Pray for sequels, everyone. This is the kind of representation we deserve in mainstream media.
