Prelude

I was born Darcia Dolores DuLancret, daughter of Baron Eduoard DuLancret; I was a disposable pawn in my father’s struggles against other nobility.

A dark insidious creature preyed upon the king and his family until one day our ancestor captured and dealt with creature, and in return for his heroism, the king granted him a title and lands to build our fiefdom. While I practice the duties of a noblewoman, my younger brother Dior struggles in his lessons to inherit the barony. He is a soft and sweet soul. We trade our lessons in art and weaponry and confide our fears in one another.

When the time comes, I am married to my betrothed, Comte Gabriel. My father Baron Eduoard DuLancret, angry that he has wasted the best years of my youth waiting for him to claim me, only gives him half of my promised dowry. Insulted, the Comte blinds me and returns me before our marriage can be consummated. My greatest pain is my impotent fury as a pawn in these noble games.

Useless to him now, my father discards me in the dungeons. He will not commit the sin of filicide, but he refuses to look upon his crippled daughter. I believe I will die down here.

Hidden in the depths of the dungeon, a withered voice calls to me. It promises to restore my sight, my pride, my life in exchange for reviving him with my blood. I agree and together, renewed, we both feast upon my father. We are no longer victims of this barony.

I am now Baroness Darcia DuLancret, the Blind Baroness, whose white eyes betray my perfect vision.

long answer and personal experiences below the cut!

The first thing I'd do is look into your local studios (googling helps). You don't need to be a professional to go to them. Think of it as signing up for yoga, you can sign up for a class (beginner to advanced/Pole 1-3 is what's offered at the studio I go to). Most places also offer tours and talk to you about what kind of lessons are available. Instructors, in my experience at least, have been professional and kind when talking to you about your goals.

If you don't have access to a studio, there are great tutorials online for free you can find on youtube. You would just need to look into the purchase of a home pole.

Like any sport it is difficult. But I find if you like it the challenges are more fun than they are frustrating. Just to note, it requires a lot of upper body strength, core strength to pull off some of the more difficult moves. But at the beginning you start off pretty slow. Grace and strength will come with time and practice.

The shoes, though sexy, are not required for the sport. Its encouraged for beginners to learn barefoot. There are heels classes to learn to dance safely in those shoes, if you work up the courage to try them down the line.
