● Silver Award KANON PANCAKES // Yuri SANAE (Japan)
KANON PANCAKES is a pancake café in Sapporo, Japan. Its pancake is characterised by its fluffy texture. So, I tried to express this texture in a unique way by bouncing people up and down on the pancakes

【HKIPT2020 Judging Panel | Ms Lisa Pommerenke】
// Participating in the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial is a great opportunity to get your designs out into the world, get them to be seen and get inspired by all the other designers taking part in the competition.
As a young professional fresh out of design school I found it always exciting to send a tube full of posters off into the world and see what response comes back.
For me it was a good way to test my designs, to learn what works and sometimes also to learn how to deal with rejection. //

【HKIPT2020 Judging Panel | Mr Yukimasa Okumura】
// It is my great honor to be a judge for this competition.
Peace and misery coexist in this world and the future may not always be beautiful. As a global visual language, design, especially poster design, has always been a significant medium.
What the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial has achieved proves exactly that and it is of tremendous importance to the global community. //
-- Yukimasa Okumura (Japan), HKIPT2020 Judge
【HKIPT2020 陪審 | 奥村靫正(おくむら ゆきまさ)先生】
// 今回、審査に参加できますことを大変光栄に思っております。

【HKIPT2020 Judging Panel | Mr Erich Brechbühl】
// A good idea makes a well-designed poster great. As a judge I’m always looking for ideas. Unfortunately, more recently international poster design is more about nice contemporary design. So, I’m looking forward to seeing many well-designed posters with a good idea in Hong Kong! //

【HKIPT2020 Judging Panel | Mr Bi Xuefeng】
// The quantum development of technology has led to fast-paced, continuous evolution of media communications, but posters, with their unique charm, still hold a special place in the eyes and hearts of designers.
A poster opens a window for us to learn about different cultures, uncover social problems, and record social progress. Through the visual presentation of the concepts and ideas of the designer as an individual, it also conveys the humanistic spirit of its creator.
As one of the most important international poster competitions, the Hong Kong International Poster Triennial has become a platform for professional sharing and exchange among designers. In this era of constant transformations, we look forward to seeing the designers’ innovative drive that would take us into the future. //

【HKIPT2020 Judging Panel | Mr Philippe Apeloig】
// When you start to design a poster, try to examine many things that might not have any direct connection with the topics. Photographs, movies, paintings or books about the subject. This feeds your imagination and can drive you to unexpected directions, and helps build your mental dictionary.
Drawing sketches is fundamental during this phase. A poster should sustain visual vitality and richness, which can happen through an unexpected mix of graphic shapes: grids, letters, symbols, photos.
Typography is the essence of drafting: the balance between full and empty, light and shadow. Don’t be afraid to cut, change, damage your alphabet and work to push the limits of legibility.
The graphic designer who uses typography as a means of expression fully defines the idea of design: a fusion between form and concept. //

【HKIPT2017 Award-winning Posters】 [Thematic Category-“Touching”] ● Bronze Award News Feed // Chiu Wang Ching (Hong Kong) Every day we are absorbing digested minced meat – the deluge of information, news, knowledge and events, into our system. They are filling up our minds and hampering our thinking. Truth and falsehood are blended like minced meat, and fed to us, absorbed and broken down constantly in our growing-up process.

● Silver Award TOUCH // Kenichi SATO (Japan)
I wanted to make a funny poster. I tried to express the moment of touching a soft object with a transformed poster. As if to touch the hearts of loved ones. As if to touch the bodies of loved ones.

● Gold Award Broke‧Touch - Eye/ Ear/ Nose/ Tongue/ Body/ Mind // SHI Cheng (Mainland China)
If we don’t use our senses, we will not sense anything. Eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind are the six senses to feel the world. Our perception of the outside world comes from our senses which enable perception, and what we perceive is the outside world. By using our senses, we perceive; by not using them, we don’t. If we cut off our six senses and turn inwards, we will be able to feel our heart and inner self, thus freeing ourselves. Cutting off the senses means detaching oneself from the outside world and ending its perception, and pure thoughts will ensue. When the senses are stopped, all physical and mental sufferings in life will also come to an end.

● Bronze Award Dean M. 2015 // pororoca (Japan) These are 2014-15 winter season campaign posters for Dean M., a Tokyo-based apparel brand. The campaign theme is “deconstruction”. In order to express the concept, I chose to create photo-collage by using several different toned photos and made them into a series of three posters.

● Gold Award Parco Lily FW14, SS15 // M/M (Paris) (France)
In 1987, when we were studying graphic design in Paris, the Parco advertising campaigns were, for us, strong landmarks in the graphic design landscape. Those graphic art pieces helped the two of us strengthen our belief that both art and commerce could nourish each other to create contemporary culture. In 2014, we were approached by the Parco Corporation to revive the name of this brand. We took this assignment very seriously as we felt an urgency to prove that it was possible in our present time to reinterpret the spirit that was displayed in the glorious era of this brand. Parco was built as a forward-thinking retail concept within the world of fashion. It needed to be promoted by the same forward-thinking approach in its communication strategies. In that progressive context, only adventurous images beyond a viewer’s expectation could sustain that creative flow. We made a strong creative decision that we needed to build our proposals throughout a complete year, to eventually create a seasonal rendezvous. Fashion is about a sophisticated articulation between a time frame or capsule and its inhabitants; we turned this matter of fact into a visual statement by commissioning internationally acclaimed fashion photographers to produce the images we wanted. For the project Parco Lily FW14, SS15, we invited Viviane Sassen as a photographer and model Lily McMenamy as a performer to contribute with their eyes, brains and hearts. This creative strategy brings a more polyphonic texture to the image. It becomes a sum of personal expressions, an articulation of points of view that we, as “conductors”, are turning into a visual symphony.
