Keeping Air Pure in Your Home, what is a HEPA Filter?
Do you like pure air at home? I’m sure the answer was yes! With our world rapidly changing with businesses thriving from homes and online learning, there has been a lot of activity going on within our abodes for the past three years. With that being considered, you want to ensure that you are breathing in the best air. Air purifiers work hard at reducing allergens and providing more comfortability in your space.
When used correctly, the air purifier can additionally, help at minimizing airborne contaminants that may include viruses in a home or closed space. Although extremely helpful, a portable air purifier will not purify the air 100%. Therefore, to ensure to it performs at its best abilities, it should be produced with a HEPA filter which is proven to remove up to 99.97% of airborne particles according to the EPA.
HEPA filters are tested to use air particles that are only 0.3 microns! This is the most complex size for a HEPA filter to pick up. According to research done by NASA, HEPA filters are much more capable of catching smaller-sized particles that can be just as small as the size of viruses.

The Functions of a HEPA Filter and How it Works
A HEPA filter is not your typical air filter that you would install into your home. These filters are much more intricate as they are mechanical air filters that are considerably thick to ensure particles are captured. The mechanical pleats create a mat of fibers that are arranged at random. The dense, random arrangement of fibers in the HEPA filter assist in catching a range of particle sizes. As air flows through the air filter, they are caught by three mechanisms which include: interception, impaction, and diffusion.
Diffusion takes place in a HEPA filter when the gas molecules are less than 0.1 microns combine and are prevented from passing through the filter. This delay will then assist in the next two mechanisms to transpire for those smaller more difficult particles to catch. Interception involves particles moving up and down the air stick to a fiber. Lastly, impaction takes place when the larger air particles are embedded directly into the fibers.

Compromised Indoor Air Quality Often Leads to Indoor Health Concerns
While many people are vigilant about protecting themselves from outdoor pollution, indoor air quality often goes overlooked, leading to potential health issues. Addressing indoor air quality concerns can be easily managed with the installation of a HEPA air purifier. These devices are crucial, especially in today's environments.
Indoor Air Quality:
Whether it's your home, workplace, or any enclosed indoor space, the quality of the air you breathe indoors can significantly impact your health. Indoor air quality is affected by various factors such as dust, pet dander, bacteria, smoke, and pollen. Elevated levels of these pollutants indicate poor indoor air quality, which can be mitigated with the use of air purifiers.
Air Purifiers:
Air purifiers effectively improve indoor air quality by circulating cleaner air within enclosed spaces, capturing harmful particles through specialized filters. HEPA air filters are renowned for their efficiency in removing up to 99.99% of unwanted particles from indoor air, making them an excellent investment for cleaner and healthier indoor environments.
Importance of Air Purifiers:
Air purifiers are indispensable, particularly in densely populated urban areas where high traffic and industrial activities can degrade air quality. Installing an air purifier can help ensure a safer and healthier environment at home or in the workplace. Moreover, individuals suffering from respiratory conditions such as asthma or sinusitis can benefit significantly from the use of air purifiers, providing them with relief from breathing difficulties. Selecting an air purifier equipped with a HEPA filter is essential for optimal performance.

Made this mini with two PV fans but used a single cylinder HEPA 13 filter. Took it on vacation using a mesh bag and it was great for the plane, the table at the food court restaurant in the airport and the back seat of an Uber. No one even knew we had a filter.

Simple Ways to Reduce Food Waste
Grocery prices are on the rise, and with that in mind, we should all consider ways to preserve our resources and save money. Kitchen staples like milk and eggs are becoming unreasonably pricey so valuing every dollar is essential. One way we can save money on groceries is by reducing food waste.
Tumblr media
The amount of food we waste in the U.S. is quite alarming! According to Feeding America, each year 119 billion pounds of food is wasted in the United States. That is a concerning amount of food being thrown out and not eaten. Additionally, food waste is a serious environmental issue as it releases methane in landfills which is a greenhouse gas that breaks down. Food waste makes up a large percentage of the trash sent to landfills.
Therefore, being mindful and ensuring that we utilize all groceries bought and not forgetting about those leftovers hidden at the back of the fridge is extremely important. Implementing habits that like refrigerator organization can help us identify what our day-to-day needs are without fishing through your perishables. Let’s take a look at some ways we can cut back on food waste:
Do you got the Juice?
The ends of celery, carrots, and other vegetables that were left over after cooking can be used to add some flavor and nutrition to your next smoothie. Using parts of produce that are typically not used can also help reduce excess food waste. Juicing fruits and veggies that are on their way to going to waste is also helpful.
Cook a pot of Soup
Soup is another way to preserve every last bit of your groceries. This is a great way to use those leftover ingredients. This is also a great way to keep some money in your pocket and save you time cooking throughout the week.
When Life Gives You Potato Peels make Potato Chips
Those potato peelings that were going to end up in the trash, can actually be used for a tasty snack. Instead of a knife, ensure you use a potato peeler so that your peels are not so thick. Pop these right in the oven for 20 minutes, and you got yourself a savory treat!
Organization Rules the Nation
Organizing your refrigerator and freezer is another important component of reducing household food waste. Follow the following steps to ensure that you have peace of mind when exploring your fridge.
After purchasing groceries, store them in clear containers with labels that show the date they were stored in the freezer/refrigerator.
Move older foods and opened items to the front.
Before shopping, create a meal plan and create space for your new groceries.
Create sections in your freezer for different types of perishables.
Be sure to freeze food in serving portions.
Keep what you plan to eat next ready to grab.
As we know, we can’t use it all, therefore, put scraps that are not attainable in food waste disposers instead of the trash.

thanks to all the smoke my body can't tell if it's sick or not
really fucked up nose/congestion situation? check
extremely sore and fucked up back of throat/nose situation (for a few days now)? check
fatigue? nope.
general malaise? nope.
cough? nope
headache? ehhhh?
so while i'm sitting here like "my nose and throat only feel like this when i'm sick" and "usually when i drink scalding tea at the first sign of Bad Throat it goes away, and it has not gone away, it briefly went away yesterday then got worse today" and running in circles like "I SHOULD TAKE A COVID TEST DESPITE HAVING INTERACTED WITH LITERALLY NOBODY OUTSIDE THE HOUSE AND MY MOM ALWAYS WEARS A MASK AND SHE DOESN'T FEEL/APPEAR SICK AT ALL"
also my ears are crackling SO bad with congestion jfc
but the smoke.
the smoke has only been getting worse, and it generally makes me dizzy--
dizziness? check.
and completely fucks me up in general, so in all likelihood it's that.
and also the thought of swabbing my nose and throat right now to test for covid makes me want to Die. so.
