it's very interesting to me that astarion — without any kind of protest — is so willing to ingest tadpoles, knowing there's a non-zero chance he'll be turned into a mindflayer, and that the motivations driving his actions is bc he feels vulnerable. he's unsure if he can rely on the people he's with, and is wanting to grab hold of any advantage, no matter its dangers, as soon as he can.

...and then come the astral tadpole, where even if he has ingested tadpoles, is adamant he won't take it bc by that point, he's come to view himself beyond a mere spawn. more importantly, he's terrified of losing his bodily autonomy, divulging to the player that he remembers how painful it was to become vampire, and he how doesn't want to go through that again.
