before he was given away to the orphanage, his family performed rituals and tried to tie a demon to him to possess by carving incantations into his skin but it didnt work (he more or less unintentionally overpowered and consumed them instead the other way around); its an evil formula that shouldnt be recited or fully perceived etcetc ever but since he was never born human and sits above demonic entities in the food chain it has no use on him (so its basically a normal tattoo just to him)
