And then say something that everyone knows, this one was about jack black playing steve. BUT THIS PRICK USED MCSM CLIPS ON THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE SCREEN. YKU CANT FUCKING BAIT US LIKE THAT. Almost two months ago now, I noticed something odd while going through the MCSM skintones site. I had gone onto the site to grab the Warden's skintone for reference, but, out of curiosity, I decided to look at other characters within the Sunshine Institute section too. When I went into the Guards subsection, I noticed that Guard A seemed strangely familiar. I decided to grab them as well and placed them next to the Warden.

Then I realized why they seemed familiar - they were perfectly identical to the Warden!

I went to look in a video to verify and sure enough, there she was!

I use feminine pronouns for her because of her feminine voice. (Also side note: she has a lot more dialogue than other associates for some reason? It's a little weird, but very welcome to me.)

So, my (likely not canon headcanon) explanation for this girl?

My base headcanon is that she is the Warden's identical twin and one of them transitioned.

My sillier, yet sadder, headcanon is that she ended up here because Romeo mistook her for the Warden while he was on the surface and he sent her "back." He only realized his mistake when he went to the Institute himself to punish "the Warden." The real Warden reasonably freaked out at the sight of his sister and Romeo proceeded to refuse to put her back when the Warden begged him to. Eventually, they compromised and she became an associate.

As a final note to this post: in the intro of Episode 3, her model is used twice in a single scene. From what I know, there are only four models in her group so it isn't quite a surprise that this happened. Personally, I believe the guard that chases Jesse in the intro is NOT her, as the one in the tower speaks with her voice. Perhaps this is actually an identical triplet situation and Romeo messed up twice? How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, old man?!

The many different ways you can animate a Minecraft movie.

Vanilla Minecraft doesn’t really allow expressive features for characters, so over the years animators have gotten creative with how they use the blocky bodies to convey emotion and movement. Here’s a list of different ways this has been achieved in the past 15 years.

The Captain Sparklez way:

In “Revenge” we see an early attempt at lip synching with these strange mouth shapes that cycle through the animation. This style of animating lip synch would become the basis for how Minecraft Story Mode operated, where there are base shapes for mouth expressions that sometimes defy the boundaries of their blocky faces in weird ways.

What I like about Captain Sparklez is that he’s been around long enough that his animations have evolved with him, and he’s got a whole new way of animating.

The feature I dislike the most about his newer style of animation is that they treat the face as soft and stretchable. This allows greater expression, but at the cost of bending the pixelated shapes in ways that pixels do not bend.

On the other hand (literally) one of the things I like about this style is the slightly rounded edges of the bodies that give everything a real sense of volume. I also like how hands are treated. Normally they are blocky fists, but they can open up into individual fingers when needed. A subtle trick that allows for greater animation movement without betraying the blocky aesthetic of Minecraft.

The Minecraft Story Mode way:

This method was inspired by Captain Sparklez but they take it in a different more defined direction.

As mentioned before, mouth shapes are pre-defined and are cycled through. For a video game, this has the advantage of needing only a few shapes that can be swapped in and out whenever needed to save on space and resources.

It does have the disadvantage however of occasionally looking stiff and sometimes the mouth shapes can’t quite convey the exact emotion needed. “Oh” shapes are are also weird as they extend beyond the boundaries of the blocky face and use smaller pixels to generate the shape. This can sometimes look off-putting or feel odd.

MCSM also treats the bodies more stiffly. The arms and legs have bends at the elbows and knees, but that’s about it. The toros can bend slightly but for the most part everything is kept pretty stiff. Again this has advantages and disadvantages. Broader movement is easy to do, but more subtle movement is tricky. There are no fingers either so when a character needs to hold something it just clips through the fingerless stump.

The Villager News way:

This method is even more limiting. One of the fun aspects about it is that they use their limitation to their advantage for comedic effects. The legs and arms for example are perfectly stiff and do not bend. This is hilarious with the villagers who have to gesture with their arms stuck in this folded pose, and when they dance their large stumpy legs clop around almost like a horse.

There’s still a tiny bit of flexibility though. The eyebrow bend and the mouth can push the bottom jaw down for big mouth shapes.

The Official Way:

In the official Minecraft update videos we have the last interesting way to animate characters… and that is to be completely stiff. Arms and legs do not bend. Faces are pixel art painted on the front. There is no dimensionality at all to their features.

Like the Villager News method, this has fun restrictions. Arms and legs sway in one motion just like in the game itself, and getting certain gestures can be extremely tricky. It also doesn’t allow a great range of expressions as most of the acting now needs to be done entirely through the eyes.

Conclusion:

Each method described above have advantages and disadvantages. If you’re looking for a smooth Pixar look, the Captain Sparklez way is probably the best, but it comes at the cost of abandoning Minecraft’s blocky norms. The stiff nature of the official style fits better with the conventions of Minecraft, but can come at the cost of being able to express the characters movements more fluidly.

I just find these various methods fascinating. How many different animators have tackled the challenger of animating blocky characters in such vastly different ways is neat in my opinion!

This is from an AU of mine where Radar assumes his leadership in Beacontown and after a few years he is already a guy who is maturing and decides to leave behind his dreams of being a hero like Jesse to now focus on being an honest and respectable mayor while facing the new responsibility of being a new father (ummm with jesse, the red clip one... yes.) Anyway, the protagonist of this au is not entirely Radar, there is also his little daughter Lapis Lazuli who I will talk about in the future!

I've always hated how ➡️SOME⬅️ mcsm fans treat radar, yes he is the youngest of the group, but he's not a child, the guy that made him and Jack, who's name I forgot, said he's 'old enough to do adult things, but young enough to still injoy kid things' so most people say he's around 19 in the game

Most people have issues when it comes to ships with him, my favs I've seen are radar and nell or radar and fem jesse(yellow hair clip) if you see someone shipping with radar, please leave us alone. He's a young adult at the very least

I did a analysis on Jesse. Or.. I'm trying to. But there are... a lot of variables. But. While I was working on that, I found some differences in the Jesse's designs. And... I just wanted to write this down to start working on analyzing Jesse some more. So... analyzing clothes! Yay

I thought it was fun. And... entertaining. (But in case you can't read it all, I have a summary prepared at the very bottom)

So- the Jesse's all look like the same height(except yellow clip Jesse. I'll tell you all why, later). And something fun I found out is that, while all the m!jesses jaws don't move, the f!jesses jaws do move. And it's different for every other character apperantly?(I'm not sure though. Don't have the time to go through an entire episode to make sure of this fact. Sorry.)

Okay. So if you look at these photos

You can see the difference of their jaw(chin? Is it chin?)s.

And now

The actual clothing analysis

Yeah- so... we know they have different shirt designs. Red suspenders(? I think that's the name) Jesse has a... button. You can also see more of his skin around the neck. Green suspenders doesn't seem to have buttons, but has a design that... looks like it would have buttons on that middle part. Yellow suspenders has two stripes on each arms, the color connecting around the neck. All male Jesse's have long sleeves.

Yellow clip has a red sleeve shirt with the color connecting only around the neck. Red clip has the turquoise color down to her.... I think somewhere around her chest. And blue(navy?) clip has a yellow stripe shirt. All female Jesse's have short sleeves.

They also have different eye colors.

Green for the red suspenders and yellow clip. Dark brown(?) for green suspenders and red clip. And black for yellow suspenders and blue clip.

And the color of their overalls are all different.

Now. This is the more... uhmm... not easily seen part(I think)

Let's start with yellow clip Jesse.

Her jeans are rolled up higher than the rest. (The folds are small though) You can see her skin at the bottom. We can't see her socks.(or maybe those are her socks? It looks a bit darker than her skin tone... I'm still debating on that) And her shoes seem to have a... higher topline(?) than all the other Jesse's shoes. And guess what. If you look closely, she has a darker color at the bottom of her shoes. (That one extra brown line)

I think. It is so that she looks taller. (Insoles? I think they're called?) To look the same height as the rest. (Considering that mcsm has a 'behind the scenes' and in the Netflix version, they literally.. y'know. Petra comes up and asks us to choose. Then she does a quick explanation. Stuff like that. Maybe.... just maybe- this "actor" of Jesse was shorter than the rest.) (Just having some fun during this long boring writing.)(I'm sorry if you're getting bored of this. We still have lots more to read! 😃)

Next we have red clip Jesse!

So.. this one has the jeans rolled up just above her ankles. And the fold is small. Can't see her skin, has black socks on. Also!! Red clip Jesse and blue clip Jesse has the same color highlights in their hair as their hair clips! (Well... at least to me. But if it is. That's pretty cool. Right?)

Alr. Speaking of which...

Next is blue clip Jesse!

Her jeans are rolled up higher than red clip Jesse. But lower than yellow clip Jesse(like.. you can barely see the difference in that photo but.. it is. ..probably). So-you can see her skin. And she either has black socks on with black shoes. Or they're like... boots.

Now. Time for the male Jesse's.

Starting off with red suspenders

He is the only one with the jeans all the way down to his ankles. And yet! He has the biggest folds. Either that's part of the design in his clothes, or the suspenders are too long/big for him.

Green suspenders

Uh.. actually... his jeans are done the same way as red clip Jesse's. Even the socks are black.

And finally, yellow suspenders!

He has the same jean roll-ups as blue clip. But he doesn't have any socks visible to us. Nor does it look like he has high a topline.

I know. Not much for the male Jesse's. But it's true! I worked hard to find out about these small details. And there isn't much to say about them. Unless I try and go look for the exact names and designs for their shirts. So.. I'm sorry for that.

Okay. Okay. mcsm took a hold of me and started to kill me at about the same time I saw the rainworld kiss me kill me map so here we are.

This is highly based off of that map, and the song kiss me kill me by jerryterry !!!

THIS IS A HORROR AU!!!

AU under cut, TW for mentions of gore related aspects + art

I have an au.... based around kiss me kill me... (Either Jestra or Jesskas, dunno which one I'll do yet). The Jesse in this AU uses they/them. They're gonna have red overalls and a green clip :3

So, pretty much, the AU is that Jesse gets a mutated form of the wither sickness from destroying the command block/getting attacked by a tentacle or... something, and it's slowly killing/mutating them into a wither skeleton or weird mini wither thingy. And. oka. when I say slowly, I mean it. This thing takes up to the last episode of the portal arc before it really starts to kick in, and from there would continue between the gap of season 1 to season 2.

Jesse, originally at around 5'5'' (I think??) slowly grows to be more like 9 feet tall or so during that time, along with a purple-ish hue in their skin that slowly gets darker over time until they look like a wither skeleton. This includes becoming literal bone :3

They lose chunks of skin and muscle, leaving their neck (other areas yet to be decided. Probably arms and stomach as wellsies) to be completely made of the charred/burnt bone that is a wither skeleton.

Again. This is REALLY slow, so it's hardly even noticeable at first.

Lukas, Petra, and Ivor notice something's wrong during the end of the portal arc (during the end of episode 8)

Lukas of course is the first to notice that something's wrong with them (actually based off him being the first to notice on their own that Petra/Gabrial is sick!! :3) and asks them, Jesse assures him that it's nothing and that they're fine, and that if it became something they'd let him know.

Petra finds out next and. I'm still trying to figure out how she reacts. Next is Ivor, and he tries to make a potion to stop the sickness (it fails)

Jesse eventually tells Axel and Olivia that there's something wrong and that they wont be able to go to. i dont know . the weekly hangout at the lake or something. and it repeats for the next few months, both of them getting increasingly worried.

Lukas is pissed that Jesse didn't tell him that it was getting worse, like they said they would, so he drags Petra along (more so she comes with him because she worries too) and they check on Jesse.

What they find is the farthest thing from the Jesse they know. Something tall, long, spindly and hardly able to stand upright. Eyes taking up over half the face, almost close enough to morph together into one. Bones showing and sprouting out at odd, inhuman angles. The little skin they still have is a burnt purple color, melting off them and taking their ratted hair with it.

This creature, it doesn't think. It doesn't feel. It only feeds, and it is starving.

- olivia and axel have been friends since like actual birth

- i like to believe jesse became friends with those two later in life, like either middle school or high school age

- in my head jesse was friends with rueben first

- like rueben was jesse’s first friend

- also in my head shes like actually terrible when it comes to talking to people

- and rueben was her first friend bc she felt it was easier talking to a pig than people

- she taught jesse how to play guitar which worked like slightly

- i lied she went out this one time and had gotten herself lost

- scared and confused jesse decided to wait out the night in a small cave with a waterfall nearby

- maybe even a cave behind a waterfall

- lucky mcsm came out pre-drowns so i don’t have to worry about that!

- jesse got lowkey highkey jumpscared by rueben

- rueben prob sneaked his way in the waterfall after losting his parents (rueben is a literal child guys where his pig parents at)

- rueben and jesse bonded over both being lost and scared and they waited out the night together

- and so now they besties

- were besties

- reuben’s death hit jesse, hard

- i don’t think she full blown cried when rueben first despawned, but she def was silently crying

- the night the witherstorm had died the whole town had thrown a party

- jesse didn’t show up to the party

- she made her way back to the treehouse and just laid down there

- thats when she started to cry

- like full blown crying

- she was found by axel and olivia later that night

- they all stayed in the treehouse that night

- jesse cried herself to sleep

- she never really got over rueben’s death

- for awhile she’d break down just looking at a pig

- that’s actually why she started going on adventure in the first place

- to distract herself from rueben

- i think the treehouse trio were the main contributors to rueben’s memorial

- jesse never wanted to be a hero guys

- anywayyy uh not much on the portal arc sorry guys

- portal takes a year after the witherstorm

- ivor and jesse have definitely bonded a lot since then

- i know damn well jesse and ivor yap buddies

- they yap under the stars about literally nothing and everything at the same time it’s crazy

- let it be know DAMN well when pama mentioned rueben something in jesse snapped

- like not obviously but it definitely repeated in jesse’s mine repeatedly

- i don’t even know if jesse had time to fully recover from pama’s remark

- if i remember correctly it was like pama’s world IMMEDIATELY to goddamn hypixel land

- but jesse def was fumbling a bit bc of like pama’s remark

- but then whats-his-face brought human rueben to taunt jesse and failed and that made jesse giggle for a bit

- but yeah after jesse got home jesse broke down again

- really thinking about pama’s remark on rueben

- jesse was comforted by petra though

So, people in the Minecraft world were just like us, but with no imagination. They just survived. People who did have imagination, their dreams came to life. They were called witches (sorta similar to the Salem witch trials but no one was burned, they were simply judged.)

Although, when books came around people imagined more. They created their own world of daydreams. All of these dreams were stored in the command block. One day, someone imagined the mcsm world as we know it. They thought, what if the villagers evolved and became like us? What if they were able to harness power too? And so, this daydreamer installed some of the command block’s power (AKA the power of imagination) into these three beings. Beings called the admins. The admins didn’t create the first world. But they discovered that they could create new ones. But of course, the command block itself still existed. The daydreamer, deciding it was boring if the admins were the only one with power, let the order of the stone harness it. The order of the stone misused it, but the daydreamer left it alone. Jessie, was not originally set up to have a destiny by the daydreamer. It was his circumstances that made him become a hero. When the witherstorm was created, it messed with the daydreamer’s mind. His imagination started disappearing. When he was able to figure out the problem, it was when Jessie was about to destroy the command block. So, the daydreamer thought he might as well make this guy a hero. He worked so hard. So, it looked like the command block was destroyed, but it wasn’t. The daydreamer simply destroyed the witherstorm using his imagination/power.

The daydreamer also gave these powers to the old builders, but they weren’t able to realize that it was within themselves, so they just used it in their building. Via, the enchanted flint and steel. The old builders were TECHNICALLY admins, but they just weren’t able to realize the power they had.

so how do minecraft updates work in mcsm?

here's my thoughts on the matter bc im curious as to what everyone else thinks

i think that the updates just kind of happen overnight, when nobody's looking. then they eventually get discovered like, "surprise! there's llamas now!" and people just go with it.

after all they do turn into a pile of their stuff when they die. they do glow red for half a second when they get hurt. monsters do spawn into existence when it gets dark.

and maybe romeo (or the admins in general) had the ability to update things. it makes sense.

but maybe it's just another law of the universe. it's simply how things are.

Mcsm Joke Headcanons: The sequel.

•When Romeo was still an admin, he almost destroyed the first world in a fit of rage after his favorite plushie went missing. He stopped when Fred found it.

•Tourquedawg is still salty about the time Stampy got carsick in his new Tesla.

• Axel believes you can shear pigs to get bacon.

•Olivia favors Radar over Axel.

•When Radar enters a retirement home, he is usually ambushed by cheek squeezes, hugs, and candies.

•Fred's ghost occasionally comes to Romeo's house to haunt him.

•When Romeo has guests over, Fred's ghost comes and humiliates Romeo.

•Radar was traumatized after seeing a gas station bathroom.

•Radar once viciously attacked a guy when the latter told him that he manufactured rabbit stew.

•Axel once tried to give a wet willy to Radar but it backfired when Radar ran crying to Olivia.

MCSM characters as cats - designs #2

Sorry this took so long, I started working on a map part for a warrior cats map while making these and I got distracted lol. Anyway here are designs for Jesse (F and M) , Reuben , Olivia and Axel. For the next post I plan on doing Petra , Lukas and the blazerods .

Jesse(M)

Throughout the years I’ve had this idea of mcsm characters of cats, His design is probably one of the only designs that have never really changed with the only changes being the darker stripes and different shade of green for the eyes (they used to be like neon green lol) . I’ve always thought of him as a white and brown tabby cat and I’m quite happy with his design .

Jesse (F)

Now with female Jesse’s design it’s a different story. Her design has changed ALOT. She used to literally have the same design as male Jesse but with the added flower (the flower sort of acts as the hair clip f Jesse wears ). Then she changed to a more tortoiseshell look . However I wanted M Jesse and F Jesse to look alike of some sort so people wouldn’t think they were two different characters so I came up with a different design . But even now I can’t decide lmao.

So this is what I came up with. Same brown tabby stripes but now she’s more of a tabby calico. But when I finished the designs I started to rethink the design and came up with something else.

Still has the calico and tabby patches but instead of white fur , she now has more of a cream coloured fur and she has a purple flower instead of a yellow flower. I wanted there to be more of a noticeable difference between male Jesse and female Jesse but I’m not sure which design I prefer. It would really help if I could get some opinions on which design you lot prefer because I really don’t know which one would suit her better. Also feel free to give new ideas that you think might work better with her design. I would really appreciate the help (and you would be credited of course ).

Reuben

Heres reuben’s designs. Yes I did make him a cat and not another animal , I just thought it would be better if he was a cat. He did originally have lighter stripes but I wanted to make him look more like, Jesse ( I feel like in this au they would be related in some way since their both cats). And he has flopped ears because why not.

Olivia

Both Olivia and axel’s designs are quite simple compared to others because for one , I didn’t plan on making every single character have a complex design and two I just felt like nothing more needed to be added really to these designs. Also I gave her curly fur :)

Axel

like I said before , not a complex design but I think it suits him . He was originally a tabby but I decided to just give him a darker grey/black patches instead.

So there’s this senior citizen .. no but seriously i have a lot of fondness and admiration for the guy! it’s not easy to keep going on when one or more of your friends is/are dead (to the best of your knowledge) but he not only did that but also got himself a husband like, you go king! he’s like, not a capital-H Hero like jesse is, but he’s still pretty darn epic :’)

good questions! for the first part, honestly at this point i’ve just put so much thought into it that escaping from the event horizon is no longer possible. i am spaghettifying as we speak. i’ve mantled someone from it, man!- which was perhaps inevitable given the nature of the game.

(this is already just me rambling to myself but i’ll still ask you forgive me the philosophizing hgldfhglkdfh) i wonder if the swiss cheese-like nature of mcsm has actually led me to devote more time and effort to it than perhaps i might’ve something that was more ‘whole’. “Because unoccupied spaces, in our imaginations, must find something to fill them.”, says this interview (albeit about a completely different topic)- and mcsm is FULL (ironically) of emptiness, plot holes, unanswered questions. ergo: prime real estate for resolution. i like the sense of resolution. i like the act of creating. i guess mcsm is actually quite like its inspiration, in that way- a sandbox, a garden, a “take this and go and play”. though it’s not such an open invitation as that, so it’s maybe more “i am going to take this and go play.”

as for the second half, specifically speaking: the witherstorm and PAMA! the old builders are a cool concept, like the other two, but lack the depth that would make them more than just an honorary mention of an interesting idea.

What is this???!?!?!? of course there’s the possibility that jesse is just humouring reuben/pretending that reuben’s saying stuff when really he isn’t, but i prefer the interpretation where no, jesse and reuben are able to communicate in such a complex fashion that they can tell each other jokes that are ‘a little risqué’. it’s so utterly funny i crack up jsu thtiking about it

also from that episode i really love soren’s little song and dance and i think it’s unforgivable that there was no option to let him finish, especially since i think a lot of the fandom would’ve been goddamn nicer to him. let him finish!!

I agree. That’s a big jump between a childs attempt at stopanimation with action figures to a multi-layered 3D animation of Godzilla monsters fighting.

This is only part of a much larger scene he’s working on with more monsters in the works which I’m very much looking forward to.

I much prefer 2D animation but 3D animation has a place in my heart when people use it to an effective extent. I even enjoy his twist on the characters from the Godzilla franchise making them have more personality. In fact I can’t remember which Godzilla movie it was but the monsters had voices and spoke to eachother through speechbubbles. I don’t think it carried over into the dub but the communication between the monsters was still there and it passed the occassional nod to each other. Vrahno, however expands on this concept in an amazing way that turns these classic monsters into actual characters!

He does some Bionicle stuff too which isn’t too bad but by nerdiness for Godzilla makes me biased.

Yes. He Is a Minecraft animation channel. But i think his animations stand out.

It’s well above the level of the cheap minecraft animation I see in Minecraft Music videos and at the beginning of multiple channels. Believe it or not but Slamacow’s Minecraft animations have Effort!

As an example of why I like Slamacows animation so much I want to do a comparison test. I’m not going to put an image of one of his animations next to a minecraft music video clip or a minecraft intro clip. I’m putting it next to an image from the official Minecraft Story Mode game! tell me which one looks better. Be honest.

Minecraft Story Mode:

The point I’m trying to get at is are the mouths. My god, the mouths!

I get that much like in the lego movie, they wanted all the characters to look like exactly how it would work in real life. McSM’s logic is everything must be squares though. It’s not the skins moving but the entire heads of the characters grow extra squares when they exclaim and every mouth movement makes Mr.Game and Watch have smoother frames per second.

Slamacow may have bendier and curved animation but unlike other LEGO digital animation where it did the same thing, Minecraft is a computer game so since it’s clearly seperate from reality, bending seams more natural. LEGO doesn’t bend at all because its rel and more tangeable version is plastic and everybody knows this so bendy LEGO animations look unnatural.

The LEGO movie made sense making sure that everything animated realistically in a way that even the fans will think it makes sense. Minecraft Story Mode animated all of its characters similar to the actual game but took some liberties which is fine. The face is where I draw the line. The LEGO made the 2D printed faces animated which makes sense. The Minecraft Story Mode could have done the same thing but with pixels which is also fine but instead they made cubic caves they call mouths which looks disgusting to me.

Only one long running series on Roberts channel is the reason I always visit his channel. And it’s ended.

Klay World is a grim, stupid yet somehow loveable show about clay people. And that’s all you need to know.

Have a look. It’s comedy is just slapstick and silly noises with smoothly animated and simple designed clay characters. I’ve seen plenty of videos explaining how a silent or simple designed main character in a videogame makes it easy to identify with. the clay people in Klay World are almost identicle other than the occassional prop or a different coloured clay. The last episode he looks at is a classic episode of a whole stadium of classic Goofy characters yelling, beating each other up and being rowdy adults like how classic Goofy was portrayed as. He described the Goofy clones appearing in the episode as ‘not Goofy’ since each character was designed differently but was of the same species and age as Goofy. This meant they could be as violent as they wanted and couldn’t tarnish the official Goofy character since every person throwing a punch, biting and kicking another was similar but not the same. The same goes with the Klay World characters. Some characters have names but everyone else is violent cannonfodder. There to explode, get sliced or shot by another.

RubberNinja, better known nowadays as “Goddammit Ross” on the super-popular gaming channel family known as Game Grumps used to animate before playing video games, being a sadist to his friends and drawing on the Game Grumps show, Doodle Doods.

Ironically one of my cartoon characters I drew for fun years ago was also called Doodle Dude. not likely I’ll be bringing that back anytime soon.

There’s not alot of animations on his channel. Neither do many of them have a story to tell. It’s mainly just random humour which I like but I prefer the other stuff he’s helped with on Game Grumps and in the music done by the band one of the Game Grumps members is part of ‘Ninja Sex Party’ and the short series of video game songs, ‘StarBomb’.

Piemations is funny and can clearly write funny sketches with clear punchlines and setups as well as being good at random humor as well.

Alot of his stuff is based off video games and in some cases, movies, so alot of his humor will also be in-jokes about the game and characters which might catch others offguard.

Apart from that he’s a great comedian whose got a clear animating style and a very clear progression in how his animation with virtualy no changes in his designs have gotten better.

TwistedGrim is Grim. Well, not really all the time. It’s more or less themed grim. Like how years ago there weren’t horror games like we know them that are almost just like the movies. There were Halloween themed games. Normal games with scary aesthetics but not scary gameplay like Alien Isolation does.

It’s funny, still, and reminds me of Zeurels work from earlier. It has a similar artstyle and comedy but devels only a pinky toe into the Grim theme the channels named after.

Actually, not many of the videos on the channel are Grim or even Grim themed at all! The latest videos are Overwatch animations while probably 35-40% of the videos are remotley Grim related.

Yet another 3D animator with an original style.

I like to make the correlation between Funko Pop figures and PixlPit’s models that he uses for his animations since they all have almost exactly the same style if it wasn’t for the defining features they are given.

I described the horrendous mouths of the characters in Minecraft Story Mode as “every mouth movement makes Mr.Game and Watch have smoother frames per second.”. Some of the movements in PixlPit’s animation is similar except alot of the movements are smooth at times too. An interesting blend.

I mentioned earlier that PixlPit’s characters are almost all clones of each other other than their defining features and I compared them to Funko Pop figures but I noticed while browsing YouTube that there is an animator who has character designs that look practically identical to Funko Pops figures.

If I recall, the method used in Seanzoz’s animations is basically like stick figures with detailed limbs. Not drawn characters but files containing limb and hand sprites to be moved but connected to other sprites. Like a puppet. This method is albeit, a bit lazy since a prime example I remember it being used in main stream media is Johnny Test on Cartoon Network (and was awful), but the difference here is Seanzoz makes highly detailed sprites for each characters as well as design backgrounds and foregrounds that are also highly detailed.

It’s as if someone got the Mona Lisa (or some other painting that has time and effort put into it) and did the same thing by moving her arms, hands and head on pivots.

The comedy is very much there as well but all the videos he makes is a parody off a TV show or video game.

What’s nice is he makes long videos with well-written comedy in them and a consistent rate of quality. What’s annoying is he isn’t the only one who does this making him not as unique as I’d hoped he would.

The channel ‘How it should have ended’ Makes animations in the exact same fashion as well as the exact same style of comedy as well. as in everything is they do is what Seanzoz does too.

To be frank, I love her drawing style. It looks amazing. No doubt. Annoyingly she doesn’t animate often anymore. She mostly just does speed art now. For others who draw only it might be nice but I prefer seeing someone whose talented enough to take art and make it move naturally without a loss in quality. That takes skill. Vivziepop has animated alot before. As proof she made a music video of Kesha’s ‘Die Young’ and it’s fantastic.

Screwits art style is very similar to the artstyle you’ll find on NewGrounds.com. The outlines are thick, black lines, they rarely have shading and the comedy varies from random/stupid humour to more teenage humour with swearing and sex jokes.

You know, after describing his animation and NewGrounds animation like this I now realise how much of a lie Screwits’ YouTube logo is. It’s shaded, it has a variation of other colours that pop out and look alike to Vivziepop’s colour pallete. Nothing about it reflects his animation style at all.

I mean. I do like his comedy and animation but it somehow seems... under-developed. Another YouTuber and Animator on NewGrounds is EgoRaptor (who will also appear later on this list) who has developed his skills amazingly to the point that you can see that even his art style changes between cartoons. but I’ll be talking more about that later.

Tithinian has an odd method of animating that... there is no animating sometimes. Well... what I mean is that sometimes there are fluent moments where things move and of course mouths move smoothly as well but sometimes for those slower moments he has an image of what the character would look like and not change from that until the character emotes again. The transition between those frames would be instant but the character would always bounce a little by being stretched before looking normal again. I’ve seen alot on animators on YouTube do this. Especially for the Game Grumps animated videos which Tithinian also falls into the catergory of for the most part.

Pay very close attention to all the characters and keep in mind how I described them. You’ll see what I mean. It’s only Semi-Animated.

But despite that, I think it’s always interesting to watch all of his videos just for the designs he gives all the characters. Especially when the characters yell, scream or get angry. It’s like just letting me or him do what they will with a notepad and pen which usually leads to these expressive, exaggerated and mostly crude drawings of the characters. It’s a whole gallery!

Pegbarians is... an odd channel to describe. They make animations but they seem... boringish... Let me explain.

When I think of main stream animations, I think of Pixar, Disney and DreamWorks and their sensible and believable worlds. I use ‘sensible’ in the most broadest of terms. Despite how they’ve made worlds of talking cars, singing cats and adventures of ogres and donkeys, they have a consistent and realistic atmosphere. Nothing is just random and nothing happens to take away from a current moment of drama.

When I think about the Internets animation from animators outside of the main stream, I list all the different animators that also appear on this list. They’re crazy, insane, creative and literally anything could happen!

However, there is a third place to look. Advertising.

I’m talking about 3D models of low rendering,

High quality 3D animation

and 2D animation commonly found on the internet as well.

This kind of animation is too similar to what Pegbarians do which makes them feel more... manufactured than creative.

I enjoy their content but the plan style with a lack of outlines or expressive imagery just makes it look like what’s actually meant to be an animation that advertisers would want their brand represented by rather than another animator or another comedy sketch writer who can freely speak their mind even if it includes swears. Like they designed themselves to be semi-enjoyable for the public and just safe enough for ad revenue to be at its best.

It’s odd why there was such a change in art style and medium in a span of only 10 videos but they’re all good videos.

There’s the 3D model videos that either look like digital muppets or have mouths like sock puppets, and there’s simple 2D animation.

I have no complaints. Although the majority of her videos are just game grumps animations, they still prove to be funny, intresting in design and even gets across her unique style that I look at and immediatley know as, Moleman’s.

it’s what I love about cartoons to begin with. The ability to take anything in existance and give it a remarkable twist to shift anything about it like its character and design as well as invent something entirely new! Animation and drawing as well as all mediums of art is meant as an escapism from reality. That fact alone is why I hate soap operas on TV or in animation. Real life can be sad and depressing which is the entire reason we turn to the screen or pages of a book. Having that new world reflect that sadness and depression back at us is redundent unless it offers us something more to think about or look at.

Ukino Joe (or Joe as he calls himself now) is exactly what I described as what I think animation on the internet is like by nature. Random, weird and creative as well as expressive.

Joe has a show right now in collaboration with Danielle Kogan called ’Great the show’.

There’s no pattern or rhyme or reason to his content. It’s meant to be random and strange but strangley tame at the same time. It usually shifts from art style to art style every so often while still adhering to the customary ‘Joe’ style.

Another Game Grumps animation channel. As much as I enjoy the Game Grumps and their comedy, I think YouTube may be a little oversaturated with the GGAnimators. I’m fine with alot of them because they sometimes take the audio and change the entire situation of it from its original recording. Like this one. The audio came from their gameplay of Resident Evil but they changed the context in the animation to take place in ‘The Legend of Zelda: WindWaker’:

Surprisingly this is the same animation I described as having the near law suit design to Funko Pop’s figures.

There are other GGAnimators who just put a fun spin on their animation that makes it even more fun to look at than just animating 2 people in a living room in front of a TV with a games controller in their hands.

InEaP’s animations are a little underwhelming but still get a somewhat good animation across. So they’re neither creative or expressive unfortunatley. It’s sort of an iconic design since the majority of their animations use a thin brush tool on the outline but then again that’s not very defining in the grand scheme of things.

This was the first animation channel I watched and enjoyed about... 12 years ago probably. He has been doing LEGO animation for a long time now and I say he’s practically innovative. While other channel have simple LEGO animation with barely any natural movements, FF101 was green screening bricks to make minifigures jump and fly instead of hanging them from string or using translucent LEGO stick pieces. That and he draws mouths moving on each frame using... probably MS paint. Primetive but effective. In fact I think there was an entire video dedicated to it on his second channel, ForrestFire1001.

Max’s videos have a clear theme. Crude humour with hints of self-actualisation and realisation of the depressing and inevitable end of our lives as well as not turning its head from the existance of the blemishes on the face of humanity. And it’s hilarious.

He knows how to be satirical. He knows how to create a scenario that would seem cruel or sad but he knows most of all how to make fun of it. He’s wacky and cartoony with the edge that will take you off guard. Sometimes even impulsive but definitely reminds you that the world and our lives can or will be shit awful but it enlightens everyone to enjoy it anyway despite that grueling fact.

He’s surprisingly good at translating his designs from 2D to 3D as well.

As I’m also a drawing coneseiur who prefers drawing by hand, I’ve tried myself to translate my drawing style to 3D. It’s, NOT, easy. But somehow Max pulled it off in his recent series, Brain Dump. A surprisingly intelligent but equally as immature as you’d expect from his humour as he analysis movies, TV and other... stuff.

This is all I think of when I think about British cartoons now because of how much it reflects Britain throgh its classic slapstick, writing and cultural references.

God rest his soul when the original animator, Edd Gould, died of Cancer. He was even half way animating part 1 of a 2 parter animation before he died. So I suppose he died how he lived. Doing what he loved. Animating.

In his name, his friends continued his legacy by finishing his work and ending the series before handing the rights back over to Edds family. It couldn’t have been done without the help from the fans who supported them.

This is pretty much the most interesting animator on the internet to me because of its story. In Edds life and in Edds wacky world he put so much effort into.

Okay. This channel isn’t exclusivley animation. Instead it’s... actually, I’m not sure.

It has some animation in both stopmotion and 3D but it’s mostly puppets and disturbing imagery. Not really something to go into though without preparation.

It’s a twist on the Muppets and Sesame Street and gives a brilliant commentary on TV productions capatilising off childrens programs and what-not. Definitley something to look into but personally I prefer the Film Theory channels take on it.

To me this is one of the most impressive channel in terms of technicality. His most famous series ‘Animator Vs.’ features a stick figure gone rogue and the computers user has to combat this combatant collection of lines from destroying his computer using the computer itself and even other stick figures. There are other episodes that don’t feature the user and instead the stick figures finding other programs and websites to play with that still leads to even more trouble. Overall it’s animated amazingly and creativley since it uses everything about the PC that you can think of to the animations advantage.

FlashGitz is expressive in more than one way. Through their animation they have expressive visuals (of course). But they’re more expressive through their writing. The first video they uploaded was of their view on what GameWorkshop (The company responsible for the Warhammer franchise) are thinking at the board meetings. This video is to ‘express’ how the community felt from their perspective about the excessivly high price of their plastic models which were often given game breaking statistics in the game.

Much like his first video, this is indeed a random channel. The epitome of silly. He makes structured videos in many cases but somehow still manages to let it slide down the slippery slope of silly without end. It’s odd. It’s perculier. But most of all it’s him.

I agree that him in real life would probably be like watching one of his cartoons. Stupid but funny to the better people of the internet... probably.

I feel like in the beginning I wasn’t clear about what my standards are to begin with but I’ve slowly revealed it bit by bit within this post. Let me give you a clear picture then.

What I love about animation, drawing and art in general is the ability to... well, I think Seto Kaiba from the recent Yu*Gi*Oh! movie does it justice.

It’s true. It upsets me when people use it not to create but to make something boring. Usually to point at a real world problem that you just know will depress you. This medium should be used to express yourself, represent something amazing. Indulge in the escapism it allows you and make sure to spend that time wisely to make an imprint that’s unforgettable. However you can do both at the same time. Be creative and depressing.

This is a perfect example of an art medium changing the world amazingly through a creative and imaginative story but still sends out a message and a point on how the working class suffer the most as well as the children that connected to the lords and ladies and changed society as they knew it.

However a skeleton in a pile of rubbish and a cardboard box marked ‘Home’ will not... It’s just depressing...

I should also point out what’s most important to me in art. An art style. I didn’t take GCSE Art for a reason. They’d force me to do realistic images and glue stuff to paper and the like. Not my idea of fun in my opinion. I enjoy all these animators because of their unique styles. They bring so much to their viewers through the eyes and minds of their fantastic worlds and how they perseve reality through them in their own wacky ways. And that’s what I love.

P.S. NewGrounds isn’t really my favourite place. It was just a joke. It’s still good but YouTube is easier to use since having flash isn’t a must.
