Some Enola Holmes trailer thoughts:

 I’m a major fan of pretty much everyone in this. Millie Bobby Brown? Amazing. Henry Cavill? Amazing. Helena Bonham Carter? Amazing. Sam Claflin? Amazing. All of them playing one family? A family made of awesome, which is exactly what the Holmes family should be, yes please.

I’m particularly excited to see Momma Holmes fleshed out, since we know basically nothing about her in canon, and I think HBC is a fabulous choice for it. 

Giving Sherlock Holmes a little sister fits pretty easily with the canon when you remember that he canonically didn’t mention Mycroft to Watson for years, but even beyond that, I can easily imagine him considering it off-limits for Watson to write about his baby sis. (It’s one thing to mention Mycroft, who’s an adult, and another thing entirely to drag his teenage sister into that kind of publicity.) It could always be chalked up to a mild AU anyway, but for those who are more canon sticklers, I think it’s pretty easy to make this work. 

 I absolutely agree with the people saying Henry Cavill is too burly and conventionally hot* to be Sherlock Holmes, but it’s also kind of hard for me to muster up any actual negative feelings about looking at Hot Victorian Detective Supportive Big Bro Henry Cavill for 2 hours. My issue is honestly less with his looks and more about how he’ll play the character. I actually like that we’re seeing a softer Sherlock Holmes here, but I also hope they don’t file off the oddities and nuances of the character. 

I can’t exactly say Purse-Lipped Sexist Victorian Traditionalist Mycroft Holmes contradicts canon, because we honestly see so little of Mycroft (and I’m not sure we ever see him interacting with a woman) that it’s hard to judge. But it seems to basically be his entire character here, which is a pity when in the original stories you have character notes like “Smarter than Sherlock, but can’t do detective work because he’s too dang lazy” and “Might actually be secretly running the entire British government” (which is fascinating because it brings up whether his supposed laziness was just a cover all along, or if he actually is lazy in some ways but not others) and “Founded an entire club for introverts where the people are outright forbidden to talk to each other” (what an absolute icon). There’s a fascinating character here, and this movie could’ve been a chance to explore it further, but instead they seem to have made him Disapproving Victorian Sexist Patriarchal Figure #5969792 in a way that’s identical to a million other characters, and that’s a pity.

Which brings me to my last point, and there’s a reason I’ve saved this to the end... the canon Holmes siblings are weird, and I’m not sure this movie is either accurately capturing that about Sherlock and Mycroft, or making Enola weird enough that she feels like an organic addition to the family. Sure, we get a lot of emphasis about how she’s Not a Conventional Victorian Lady, but it’s in a way that’s incredibly similar to countless other Plucky Unconventional Victorian Heroines, which ironically makes her feel extremely conventional as a character, from our perspective. Again, we’re talking about the family that brought us the likes of “Wrote an analysis of 243 types of tobacco ash” and “Founded a club for people to sit and not talk to each other”. Obviously, not all family members are alike, but based on Sherlock and Mycroft I would’ve expected any sibling of theirs to be a bit more out there. And it’s very possible in the full movie, we will see more of that - I certainly hope so.

None of this is going to prevent me from seeing the movie, and probably enjoying it immensely, because the trailer really does look delightful, and we’ve had more faithful Sherlock Holmes adaptations, so I’m perfectly content to go along for the ride and enjoy it as its own thing. That said, I also love the idea of doing a story like this but writing it in a way that’s more in-keeping with the tone and characterization of the original stories. A project for the fanficcers out there, maybe?

*All versions of Sherlock Holmes are hot, some are just more conventionally hot than others, do not @ me about this. Yes, I’m including the Benedict Cumberbatch one in that. I’m not including the one where he was a mouse, but I’ve also been on the internet long enough to know someone out there is probably into that.

* Scrambles to get ready, but literally you guys usually just end up cuddling while watching a movie, or playing games with each other.

* He will also make you both breakfast!!

Zen

* He tries so hard to have a regular sleeping pattern. But, he’s a night owl, so he doesn’t get up the earliest sometimes.

* Yet, most of the time he wakes up before you.

* He tells himself he’s gonna let you sleep because you just look so! Cute!

* But no more than five seconds later he’s covering your face with sweet little kisses and wakes you up.

* “Ah, sorry (Y/N)...I couldn’t help myself. You just looked so adorable.”

* You’re quick to forgive him though. After all, who can say no to that pretty face.

* Like Yoosung, he’ll be making breakfast for the both of you. But you always like to sneak your arms around his waist from behind while he cooks.

* He’ll giggle a little bit, before spinning you around to give you a proper kiss.

Jaehee

* she’s always up so early.

* You walk out into the living room, and the smell of her freshly brewed coffee fills the air.

* “Jaehee, how long have you been up?”

* Most of the time she won’t answer directly because she doesn’t want you to worry, so she’ll just shrug and pat the seat beside her.

* You sit next to her, offering support and any help she needs.

* Looking at the time, she still has a little while before she’s off to work, so you guys watch a musical to start the day.

* It always makes her so happy. She believes if the morning starts out positive it sets up the rest of her day to be positive, too.

* That isn’t the case at work with Jumin but she can dream.

Jumin

* You never feel him getting out of bed, but if he’s there or not you always have breakfast in bed. Sometimes given by him directly, or if he’s running late he will have his chef make it for you.

* The most common breakfast is strawberry pancakes with a cup of your favorite tea. Although sometimes he likes to give you a big plate of your favorite freshly cut fruit, because he wants to make sure you’re staying healthy.

* But when he is there when you wake up, it’s always a good morning.

* He’ll play some soft, beautiful music in the back ground, and if it’s cold outside he’ll turn on the fireplace (I assume he has one idk tho) and you guys will just cuddle with Elizabeth 3rd.

* Honestly, I genuinely believe Jumin is down to take either a shower or bath together in the mornings.

* Not even necessarily sexually, I mean, obviously he likes to see you, but he thinks it’s good for bonding.

Seven/Saeyoung

* You literally never know with him.

* Sometimes you’ll wake up cuddling each other and he’ll give you a soft kiss on the forehead.

* Like Zen, he likes to wake you up with soft kisses on your face.

* He always reminds you that you’re his angel, and he’ll rub small circles on your upper arm or thigh in the mornings until you guys actually get out of bed.

* I feel like you’re the one who will be mainly making the breakfast, but he likes to help you in any way he can, or he’ll at least keep you company. (If you’re sick though or just don’t feel like it, he’s the one makin it, it just might not be as good.)

* He does like to try and take pictures of you in the morning while you’re bare faced with messy hair.

* He thinks that version of you is the most real, the most pure and beautiful. Of course you’re beautiful to him always, but when you think you look like a ratted up grease fest, he thinks you’re perfect.

* When you guys eventually do get ready, he likes to take a long walk with you to start the day. Sometimes with his camera, others he just wants to walk hand in hand.

Saeran

* Not a morning person.

* Definitely not a morning person.

* He is literally so grumpy in the mornings, but he tries to be as nice to you as possible.

* However, if Saeyoung messes with him, or really, even talks to him before noon he will not be having any of it.

* He doesn’t like to admit it, but he loves morning cuddles with you.

* Usually you initiate those, but on some occasions he will.

* Ice cream for breakfast? He tries at least. He likes having sweet things for breakfast!

* Loves cloud watching in the mornings.

* When it’s not freezing out, you two will grab a big blanket and lay it in the grass outside, and just lay there, looking up at the sky.

Rfa and minor trio reacts to an mc with cf

 I didn’t know much about cystic fibrosis except for a vague mention in biology class during genetics so I learned a lot in writing this request. Hopefully it’s alright! 

I mostly used the CFF website and I found it very helpful and easy to navigate if anyone else is curious to learn more.

Jumin

He thought it was perfectly normal when you mentioned having a dietitian, he has his own nutritionist after all

Worried about the cough you had on the phone, but figured it was just a cold.

You brought a portable nebulizer a dose of each of your inhaled medications and your oral medications, but you were kind of expecting to be at least back at Rika’s apartment by the next day to do the majority of your therapies

You have to explain CF to him a little bit, but once he understands this is a serious health matter (which you accomplish rather easily by demonstrating that your bag is basically a pharmacy) he has Assistant Kang write up a report for him with information from leading researchers

Rather than letting you go home, he asks for your treatment routine and then purchases all the equipment for his penthouse and has your prescriptions sent over.

The compresser he got for the nebulizer happens to be nicer than yours so damn thanks Jumin

The fact that you have an illness that only has a median survival range of 40 only fuels his anxiety about you leaving him initially. He wants to spend every second of every day of his life with you, no matter how unreasonable that actually is…and he’ll never be able to. Most likely, you would die before him, and possibly well before him.

As promised, after the party he tries to pull back a little and let your relationship progress like a normal couple

Instead, he ends up calling you multiple times a day making sure you are following your doctor’s recommendations

Has his apartment humidity controlled for you. Oh, you don’t know what humidity you breathe best at? Well, you’re gonna find out

You thought you could procrastinate on that treatment? Think again.

He pays for the best available hospitals and doctors to be part of your care team basically as soon as he can convince you to let him

Suddenly, both he and C&R are deeply involved in supporting CF treatment research

Found out during your background check

A quick snoop into your medical records…was suddenly a three-hour long dive

The closer he gets to you the more research he does on the disease

For himself, he thinks its punishment from god

Of course the person he loves is going to struggle with a chronic illness that will ultimately kill them early

But he doesn’t know what someone as wonderful as you could have possibly done to deserve this

Then the bomb gets hacked, and suddenly he can’t even care about if you’re going to survive the next few months or years, he’s terrified you won’t make it another hour.

“Don’t waste your time on someone like me” intensifies

Totally gives himself away though when he not only makes sure you eat lots of food to keep up your weight but offers to help you with your vest.

Programs lots of toys to help entertain you during long hospital visits or just during nebulizer treatments

Drives you to and from all your hospital treatments and doctor’s visits in his fanciest baby so you can feel like a movie star

Whenever you get sick he dresses up in a nurse costume and cracks jokes all the time, anything to distract you and make you smile

He is actually a pretty decent nurse, though not the best at the balanced nutrition thing

Feeds you lots of HBC and Ph.D Pepper, and is constantly offering you snacks.

He loves you so much he even tries to drag the both of you out of the house a few times a week for *cue ominous thunder*…exercise

The white noise from the nebulizer always puts him to sleep, so you use this to your advantage when his sleeping schedule is particularly bad

Zen

Zen didn’t find out until well after the party when you guys were Snapconversing and you sent him a selfie of you mid-treatment reading a book

“WHAT IS THAT THING!?” the first time he sees your nebulizer

He has hardly been sick in his entire life, so he has no idea what to do when he finds out a good chunk of your day is spent just keeping yourself from dying

He’s usually either completely forgotten you’re sick at all or fumbling over what to do with himself

It would be really easy to push yourself too hard if you didn’t speak up about your needs

When you first start dating he is super uncomfortable watching your treatments, doesn’t know what to do with himself and feels like he is going to hurt you or make something worse

“Do you need help?” He asked the first time you put on your Vest in front of him. After that he just kind of…stayed out of the way.

Does help you remember your oral medications and any supplements you have! He takes vitamins, and you two make a ritual out of taking them together.

Zen is all about low calorie, low fat eating habits and you need a high calorie, high fat diet to keep your weight healthy so eating dinner together can be hard

Likes to take you to McBurgerville…and order himself a salad

He’s always trying to quit smoking for you, but even when he falls off the wagon he makes sure to keep his shame cigarettes far, far away from the building

The cutest thing he’s ever done is offer you a face mask while you wore your Vest

Yoosung

Yoosung probably finds out last out of all of the RFA and is super bitter about it

After the intial panic of it, he’s mostly just very doting and supportive

Won’t do research on his own, but makes sure to memorize as much of what you tell him as he can

Cooks for you all the time! Whatever you want! Whenever you want! Please eat more food, MC!

Is very frustrated with how little he can do to help you

Is even more frustrated when Seven and Jumin occasionally offer to do things like pay for medical expenses or drive you to and from appointments.

He can’t do that, but he wants to be able to. He promises himself that when you guys get married he will have a car and be able to support you when you need it

You guys play games while you wear your Vest

He can never seem to decide whether to be impressed or pout at how good you are at playing LOLOL

Considers being a human doctor often, seeing all of the things you have to go through

Offers to come to every doctor’s appointment

Keeps suggesting to Jumin that his company should get involved in treatment research

Also complains to Zen about his smoking and how its bad for your lungs (even though you see him once, maybe twice, a year and he doesn’t smoke when he sees you)

Jaehee

Unlike Jumin, she grasps that you are the one who has been dealing with this for your whole life and know how to handle it

but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t worry

She finds out because you send her pictures of your food and she is very concerned about how much there is

Once you tell her about your cf, she is knee-deep in research

Terminal illness research isn’t exactly her favorite thing to be researching, but it might as well be now

She has an interest in seeing your treatments and knowing your usual schedule

Asks if there is any way she can help, and will always make time to prioritize your health

Prepare for worried lectures every time you tell her you skipped a treatment

And a follow-up movie night the next day, for which she brings popcorn and your medical equipment, to make sure you’re taking care of yourself

Your medications will never be disorganized again. They get their own cabinet.

The best hospital buddy with a purse like Marry Poppins’ bag and all your information ready to go

V/ Jihyun

When you first meet, he’s nearly blind and you have sticky mucus that causes problems for multiple organ systems in your body. Totally a match made in heaven.

He found out when you started coming down with a lung infection at the hospital after the whole ordeal with Mint Eye

Feels extra terrible about getting you involved in the situation, and about having you take care of him all that time.

When you decided to move in together, he makes sure there is plenty of space for all your things and clear corner with a cabinet for all you medications.

He likes both your company and the white noise of the nebulizer while he paints, so you usually do your treatments in the living room

The two of you take walks almost every day, even if it’s just the few blocks near your apartment

You also do a lot of training him. Talking him out of blaming himself when you have a bad day, keeping him from thinking he needs to be this omnipotent endlessly loving human being just because your days are a little more numbered than his.

Saeran

He knew when he first picked you as the RFA infiltrator for Mint Eye.

You would be a great candidate for Paradise with all the things you had to go through

But plans change Thankfully, in this case. Cults are bad Saeran.

It takes him a while to really get to know you, but the more he does the more worried he gets about how sick you are.

For a while it’s just him watching you intently while he fidgets, just another thing to add to his piles of anxiety

“You need to go home for your second treatment,” he snaps one day, interrupting you in the middle of a conversation with Saeyoung

He really likes learning how all your equipment and medicines work, it helps ease his anxiety about the situation

Still nervous about hospitals after his own stay, but he makes Saeyoung take you to your doctor’s appointments

Optimizes the compressor for your nebulizer

The two of you play a lot of board games together, or read each other stories to pass the time during your treatments, or on Saeran’s bad days.

Saeran was really nervous when you first asked him to read to you, but he preens every time you give him a compliment

Sometimes you drag Saeyoung into it (and sometimes he cannonballs himself between you shouting “TWIN TIME!”) and Saeran wonders if this is what its like to have a real family that loves each other

Your relationship doesn’t always have time for much more than just taking care of each other, but the two of you make it work

Vanderwood

He tries to nope away from his feelings for you really hard

It doesn’t matter how incredible you are

or how Seven teases Vanderwood about the way he looks at you (”its like the sun shines out her ass!”)

He is dangerous and prickly and you are kind and fragile

Is incredibly pissed at Seven for putting you in danger

“Their life is already in danger every single day and this is what you do!?”

Super impressed by how strong you are about everything, even if he won’t tell you outright

You thought he was a neat freak before? Oh just wait. As soon as he finds out how important it is you don’t get sick he is busy disinfecting everything

Tries to be secretly supportive of you however he can by using Seven as a proxy

Seven is a terrible proxy and constantly tells you Vanderwood did it

When you start spending time alone together he nearly runs himself ragged trying to be involved in your life while keeping you as far as humanly possible from his agency life

It’s absolutely a major argument in your relationship. Being fully involved in his life means accepting you won’t know most things about it.  It means accepting that you could die, or be targeted, and he doesn’t want that for you.

He doesn’t give in so much as you slowly worm your way into this part of his life as well.

Then he teaches you self-defense and makes you work out with him

When he and Seven suggest     going to scope out Mint Eye    

Boy howdy were you so not     okay with that

“Have you ever been taught anything ever; you don’t go     to the fucking place with the bad people”    

You knew that if they went     there, either they’d get hurt or you’d be dragged into more BS

Of course, Yoosung went     anyway because-

“I’m older than them! I can make my own decisions!”    

And then he got hurt

“Maybe they were right..”    

After the RFA party, MC sees     Yoosung as a younger brother she needs to protect, much to Yoosungs     embarrassment because it should be the other way around

You go to him when you have     problems with school    

And he goes to you when he     has problems with his masculinity…    

Jaehee

at first she’s very concerned     that you are here to hurt them    

“How do we know we can trust you? It would make me feel     better if you told us a bit about yourself”    

“I really don’t care how you feel so fuck off”    

Confronted and offended

But this isn’t the first time     she’s been spoken to in a very disrespectful manner, she did work for     Jumin after all. 

After she got over her     initial thoughts of you being dangerous, she became very… protective

In a motherly way

You guys acted like twins, more so than him and Saeyoung, you liked the same music, you both insulted Saeyoung (although your insults didn’t stop there) and you both swore like you’d just stubbed your pinkie toe on a table leg

Eventually Saeran apologises     for trying to kidnap you, and for tricking you, he truly didn’t realise     you were just a kid. 

You forgave him but warned     him if he tried to do it again you’d make sure they never found his body
