Okay, I know we're all saying that Verlaine betraying his partner for Chuuya. True enough. But let's be honest here, it's not for "Chuuya" exactly. It's more like an idea. Verlaine betraying Rimlaine and commit treason because of an idea of someone–something like him– a person, no, a being he could empathize with, whose life he knew will only filled by suffering–just like him– and he want to prevent that.

It just so happened that, that idea is Chuuya. So, no, Verlaine didn't betrayed his partner for Chuuya but rather, the idea of something like him.

But do believe, the one he's coming back for, nine years later, now, it was the child himself. It was no longer for a mere idea. It was Chuuya.

It was the child he was once held in his arms while fighting for (what could be) their better life. The child he's betraying his soulmate for. It was the child, ever so tiny in his arms, to go against the world. The child he called his brother.

It was Chuuya himself Verlaine wants to protect from the cruelty of the world. Someone he need to save from what he believed as his inevitably doomed fate if he stayed with people who means harm to him. Someone he could destroyed the world for.

“You’re home, for once.” you yawn. 

You hear the door open and the sound of familiar footsteps fill the kitchen. Chuuya Nakamura is not in your shared apartment often, or at least not as often as you’d like.

“I pay the rent, isn’t that enough for you?” he snaps, the bags under his eyes all of the sudden more prominent, “Besides, I’m only keeping you for your pretty face.”

Your eyes narrow and you slap his cheek. He stumbles back, eyes wide with shock.

How lucky. You are  probably the only person who could slap the Port Mafia’s executive for arms and walk away alive.

You take your coat and head out for a walk.

“I take back what I said. You can stop walking out now.” he says when your feet near the door.

“I’m not in the mood to fight. Let’s just go to sleep.” he adds. You hear the ruffling sound of clothes being undressed. You slip off your own coat and walk towards your bed.

You lay by his side and dim the lights. The heat of his body foreign and familiar at the same time. Your hands slip under his shirt and wander to his side. He instinctively grabs your wrist.

Oh right. His scar on the left of his abdomen.

“Sorry…” you mumble, planting a kiss to placate his temper. He quickly loosens his grip and he wordlessly moves your hand over to the right side.

You lie on your side to gently brush away the overgrown locks of his hair, your fingers running across his temple. He sighs in contentment. His eyelids begin to flicker. His body relaxes.

Chuuya enjoys it when you’re tender, but he will never say it out loud. He was raised not knowing how to ask.

You pull away to lie on your back. He grabs onto your hand.

“I won’t stop, don’t worry.” you soothe him. You run the knuckles of your hand onto his cheek.

Seeing him like this, it’s hard to believe that he’s the devil incarnate. Chuuya drifts off, the sound slumber hums through his throat.

When you’re sure he’s asleep, you take your go back to your side of the bed. You pull up the covers on the both of you and yawn, ready to give into sleep.

“Goodnight,” you whisper to him. You close your eyes and lull yourself for tonight’s fitful rest.
