#H2o au slaps and I adore it

I've been so renergized to work on H2O au now that I realize I don't have to follow the original storyline. Ever since I realized oh I can just... rewrite this to be better and how I want it I've felt so motivated. Like holy shit! Typhon doesn't exist? I feel alive! Tannis is fixed from being a weird simp lady! The twins are villains because they feel entitled to the destroyers power because they were called to Pandora like every other siren and they're using Jack's and DAHL's old mining operations to force open Pandora instead of Elpis being the key and the whole Machine fuckery? It makes actual sense! I still really don't understand Tyreen's motives in the base game because I felt like she was supposed to be the support/push for Troy's character development and then suddenly she was alone!! No jumping planets every 2 minutes and staying on Pandora so we feel like the game isn't tossing us around willy nilly and it genuinely feels like we're progressing through a single story without the twins being forgotten about for long stretches of the game! And no Maliwan!!! A consistent cast of characters and locations for the main game so I feel connected to them? Hell yeah!!! Bringing back all the bl2 Vault Hunters for help because they KNOW this area of Pandora and old Hyperion bases like we did the BL1 VHs in 2? fuck yeah!!! The gangs back together!!! The twins are the kids of an old Atlas employee and that's where the name Calypso came from and why they knew about the dahl mining operations and where the sites were and that employee is where Troy got his jacket and why they have the FRIGGEN ATLAS COLOR SCHEME!! I know it was briefly mentioned Leda was Atlas but that's never brought up again when it clearly was SO IMPORTANT for the twin's character designs??? Namely Troy's like!!! And it's awful that Nekrotefeyo had like barely any impact on the twins in the base game because you could've just put the whole family on a deserted island and got the same backstory when ITS THE ERIDIAN HOMEWORLD so I just cut that and their concrete family backstory isn't as important as their relationship with each other and how that develops because you know they're the MAIN VILLAINS. Also Nyriad doesn't exist because she's the dumbest ever (I could go on for years, don't let me) and instead those writings you translate are from actual Eridians and Guardians and instead of finding the translator in a fucking Vault (???????) Tannis gives the VHS one she's been working on since BL1 (established lore callback!!!!!!!) and asks them for new translations because she doesn't want to leave the ship. Oh and the Watcher is here!!! Because she deserves it!!!!!!!!! AND MAYA DOESN'T DIE BECAUSE SHE ALSO DESERVES IT AND SO DOES KRIEG AND AVA

AND GUESS WHAT THE ERIDIANS ARE EXPLICITLY BAD GUYS BECAUSE HOW CAN YOU SAY OTHERWISE WITH THE GIVEN EVIDENCE. Because otherwise those lore additions are bad writing and gearbox you wouldn't do that would you ((((:

disclaimer i have a nonexistent attention span but i did finish the first episode so that's promising

important things:

the theme song & intro montage still slaps. timeless

i love that emma is a competitive swimmer because i used to be one too. double dose of nostalgia within the first minute and a half of watching

zane pushing cleo out onto that boat is seriously not okay especially since 1) she seems afraid of water, 2) she can't swim as we learn later even though she swims just fine when she has to get out of that cave -- anyway, can't wait for that zane character growth

i can't decide if this shirt is cute or not but it feels grandma and that's a positive

cleo & rikki's first meeting is so awkward lol. at least they seem to bond fast while zooming around in zane's boat

oh my god the overenthusiastic zooming and panning of these shots sometimes

i kind of wish that the girls got more time together for us to see their dynamic before getting stranded at sea and arguing with each other. felt kinda rushed but they did need to become mermaids within the first episode so i'll accept it.

i have the same attitude toward none of them realizing that the boat would run out of gas 🤷

but the episode does do a good job of giving first snapshots of their personalities. cleo is sweet but needs some help overcoming her fears, emma can be a bit stiff but is responsible and caring, and rikki makes cannibalism jokes

they look like they've been sitting there waiting for much longer than 20 seconds lol

i find it interesting that they don't transform into mermaids when they're in the moon pool for the first time. i don't remember much so maybe some mer-lore gets explained later in the show

i love the scenes where they just hang out and swim underwater. i want to do that

it's so cute that lewis researches mermaids after cleo mentions it one time while shooing him out of her house

thank you to the writers for having zane get sprayed with water twice within the first episode. i'm questioning the physics of that fire hydrant opening but it's a show about mermaids so it's okay
