Chemotherapy and Targeted Therapies: Advancements in Cervical Cancer Treatment
Introduction:
Welcome to the blog of Dr. Snita Sinukumar, where we explore the latest advancements in cervical cancer treatment. In this article, we will delve into the realm of chemotherapy and targeted therapies, highlighting their crucial roles in combating cervical cancer. Understanding these treatment modalities is essential for patients and healthcare providers alike. So, let's explore the fascinating world of chemotherapy and targeted therapies for cervical cancer.
Tumblr media
Chemotherapy: A Powerful Weapon Against Cervical Cancer:
Chemotherapy plays a pivotal role in the management of cervical cancer. It involves the administration of drugs that circulate throughout the body, attacking cancer cells wherever they may be. While chemotherapy affects both healthy and cancerous cells, its primary aim is to selectively kill rapidly dividing cancer cells. The choice of chemotherapy drugs and regimens depends on the stage and extent of the disease.
Neo-Adjuvant and Adjuvant Chemotherapy:
In certain cases, chemotherapy is administered before surgery (neo-adjuvant) to shrink the tumor and increase the likelihood of successful surgical removal. This approach may be beneficial for locally advanced cervical cancer. Conversely, adjuvant chemotherapy is given after surgery to eradicate any remaining cancer cells and reduce the risk of recurrence.
Combination Chemotherapy:
Combining different chemotherapy drugs has shown enhanced efficacy in treating cervical cancer. Commonly used drug combinations include cisplatin with paclitaxel or topotecan. The synergy between these drugs maximizes their effectiveness and improves patient outcomes.
Targeted Therapies: Precision Medicine for Cervical Cancer:
Targeted therapies are a revolutionary approach to cancer treatment. Unlike chemotherapy, which affects both healthy and cancerous cells, targeted therapies specifically target molecular alterations that drive cancer growth. Here are two notable targeted therapies being explored in cervical cancer treatment:
Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors:
Cervical cancer can evade the immune system by exploiting certain "checkpoints" that prevent immune cells from attacking cancer cells. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as pembrolizumab and nivolumab, help remove this barrier and unleash the immune system's full potential to fight cancer. These therapies have shown promising results in advanced cervical cancer, with some patients experiencing long-lasting remissions.
Angiogenesis Inhibitors:
Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, is crucial for tumor growth and metastasis. Angiogenesis inhibitors, such as bevacizumab, work by inhibiting the blood supply to tumors, thereby stunting their growth. When combined with chemotherapy, these targeted therapies have demonstrated improved overall survival rates in advanced cervical cancer.
The Future of Cervical Cancer Treatment:
The landscape of cervical cancer treatment is continually evolving. Ongoing research aims to identify additional molecular targets and develop novel targeted therapies. Clinical trials are investigating the effectiveness of combination therapies, immunotherapies, and personalized treatment approaches tailored to each patient's unique tumor characteristics.
Conclusion:
Chemotherapy and targeted therapies have revolutionized the treatment of cervical cancer, offering hope and improved outcomes for patients. As a cervical cancer specialist, Dr. Snita Sinukumar remains at the forefront of these advancements, striving to provide her patients with the most effective and personalized treatment plans.
If you or a loved one are facing cervical cancer, don't hesitate to consult with a qualified healthcare professional who can guide you through the available treatment options. Together, we can fight cervical cancer and improve the lives of those affected by this disease.
Stay tuned for more informative articles on cervical cancer and its treatment options. Remember, knowledge is power in the battle against cancer!

Following the news that Kate Middleton has in fact been diagnosed with cancer, I’d like the take the time to offer some information on cancer in afab people and some charities to support.
Cancer is a very personal and scary thing to face, and according to Cancer Research UK, every two minutes in the uk someone is diagnosed with cancer. Over 182000 women in the uk are diagnosed every year.
Almost half of all cancer cases are diagnosed at stages 3 & 4, and screening rates for breast and cervical cancers have fallen in the last few years in England and Scotland.
According to The Eve Appeal, around 60 afab people are diagnosed with gynecological cancers alone every day in the uk, and 21 of them will not be able to receive appropriate treatment in time.
People around the world are woefully uneducated about cancer as a whole, but the stigma and lack of proper knowledge given to the public and young afab people about our own bodies means that we often go under diagnosed, or are too afraid or ashamed to see a doctor until it’s too late.
I’ll be listing some informational pages to help people learn about the signs of breast and gynecological cancers that I believe every young person with an afab reproductive system needs to know. On the pages from The Eve Appeal and Breast Cancer UK there is also information for transgender and intersex people.
All of these sites have information on how to identify possible markers of cancer, information on how to get tested, and on how to donate to their charities. I highly suggest everyone regardless of gender identity have a look through to potentially help yourself or a loved one.

Rant warning, medical issues warning. Please don't read if talk about chronic issues will trigger you, this is just to get things off my chest.
I am so exhausted. I have been ill since 2020, but December 2023 my health started getting even worse and it keeps progressing and the medical system is so frustrating. I had so many medical appointments this year that led to nothing. Even more that I needed but I juat cannot get through the wait list.
The myriad of gynaecological issues is actively shaving off my will to live. I have changed my gyno this year. After two visits I swore not to come in again after she screamed at me for coming in with acute inflammation week before my flight because "she is not there to worry about how I enjoy my vacation " I said it is not just vacation and I am leaving for two months. She said: "that's not too long. Unless it's 6 months, you can wait"
Thankfully I got lucky and they helped me in korea and haven't had an inflammation since as far as I know, but the lack of proper treatment fucked me up and I have been dealing with consequences ever since.
Similar thing happened to me earlier this year with another acute inflammation. I went to gyno er (completed empty) and the doctor kicked me out for taking space for really sick patients after she found out my main gyno is her friend. Her friend ruined my life in 2021 when she kept claiming there is nothing wrong with me till I got so bad my physio told me "I have never seen someone in a state as poor as yours". I will most likely never completely heal from it.
I have a suspicion for pcos or/and endometriosis. Sadly the only practioners that diagnose it in this damn country want insane money for each visit that I just cannot afford. Tell me, why do I pay 300 dollars a month for insurance?
There is a suspicion for breast cancer. I have been on a waiting list for an examination since end of May. Cool.
I am so desperate I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled out today just because there is a small chance it might help my body heal better and help it stay free of inflammation.
Out of pocket of course. What else to expect from dental care but hey, at least they will do it.
Endocrinology? I get tested in labs out of pocket, because no place accepts new patients.
I am exhausted from being my own doctor, being shoved around, waiting. Paying for what my insurance should cover.
I am tired of constantly finding new gynecologists.
I had to quit my job because my pain is so bad it is impossible to be on regular schedule.
And the pain in my arms? Don't get me started. I was getting a hang of it before my doctor (who I waited for for months) gave me random pills after he twisted my arm for a minute. After two pills I started loosing sense in my hands. Why? Because they were rapidly slowing down your blood flow. Why does a pill like that even exist and why give it to someone who had low blood pressure and possible POTS.
Anyways, it feels like I watch people around me live their lives while I am stuck in hell. I am sure anyone with chronic issues understand.
And I am angry and frustrated and most of the days I don't have the energy to keep fighting because honestly what for? So more health issues pop up?

Menopause was a French invention at a time of revolution (Alison M Downham Moore, Psyche, July 30 2024)
"Have women in all historical and present cultures suffered the ailments of menopause we know about today?
Studies in medical history and anthropology, and cross-cultural medical surveys, indicate wide variability in how women have experienced it globally.
Japanese women interviewed in the 1990s described their primary complaint of midlife as shoulder stiffness – not hot flushes.
And a 2015 study of British Pakistani women found that those raised in Pakistan were more likely to believe the menopause caused a cough and sore throat, while those raised in the UK were more likely to see it in a range of emotional symptoms.
No concept like ‘menopause’ is found in any world health or medical tradition, except in Western biomedicine.
And, even in the West, neither physicians nor midwives had much to say about the final cessation of menses before about 1780.
So how did the concept originate?
Menopause was first defined by young male university students and their medical professors at the universities of Montpellier and Paris from the end of the 1700s.
It was a major topic in France throughout the 19th century, with several hundred books written about it in the emerging new specialisms of hygiene (preventive health), psychiatry, gynaecology, sexology and endocrinology.
No other culture was anywhere near as interested in this topic as the French, and even those very few works on menopause appearing in Germany, England and the US during the 19th century borrowed heavily from them.
Why were the French in particular so fascinated by menopause?
Menopause was likely invented by the French because of its association with three categories of nervous pathologies that had flourished in medical writing there from the end of the 1600s into the 1800s: the vapours, hysteria, and hypochondria.
Nervous diseases, it was thought, were a product of luxury and civilisation: urban life, stale air, sedentary lifeways, overeating, exotic foods and beverages, licentiousness, and corporeal laziness were all to blame.
A medical view emerged of urban elite women in modern France as generally more prone to nervous diseases during times of uterine change, including around the final cessation of menses, via ‘sympathies’ of the uterus with the nervous system and the brain. (…)
When French physicians queried older peasant women about their cessation of menses, they were met with blank looks or laughter, since the very idea that simply being old enough to gain relief from menstruation and childbirth made one sick was completely alien and nonsensical to them.
Medical theses produced between 1799 and 1840 developed a rich ‘hygienic’ discourse, advising urban women to mimic peasant diets and lifeways to avoid the ravages of menopause and enjoy a healthy ageing. (…)
In the early 20th century, women conducted research studies on the diseases of women’s ageing, after they were permitted to enter the medical profession.
There was a distinctly less catastrophising and generalising tone.
They addressed serious diseases such as uterine cancer, or worrying symptoms such as haemorrhagic bleeding, but did not see these as problems for all women whose menses was ceasing.
Sage voices had long criticised the practice of lumping all women’s experiences of midlife and old age into the container of menopause.
Some women doctors argued that the concept of menopause was itself a risk to women’s health, producing an ‘auto-suggestion’, or nocebo effect that they would be better to avoid and simply take good care of their minds and bodies, or even embark on a quest for spiritual insight instead. (…)
The concept of menopause did not come from women themselves but rather from medical men for whom it served as a useful and generative case-example.
It was a tool for biomedical reformulations of treatment practices and for the conceptual separation of morbidity from mortality; it was a teaching device for male medical students learning the new mechanistic approach to women’s health; it was a weapon with which to fight other doctors, medical faculties and rival health traditions, as well as a pathway for new medical disciplines such as hygiene, psychiatry, gynaecological surgery and emergent endocrinology – to expand patient markets, develop theoretical precepts and refine clinical skills. (…)
The French pathologisation of menopause informed the 20th-century view of women as too different to include in clinical trials on account of their uterine exceptionalism, which continues to hamper current scientific knowledge of gendered diseases and drug responses.
More women than ever now live to an age when they will see their menses cease, so there is increased interest in menopause and new forms of representation about it.
But there is also a massive growth in the marketing of products and services designed to extract profits from women in midlife by promoting worry about their ageing and promising false remedies for all their life challenges.
Just like French doctors in the 19th century, commercial entities today hold a vested interest in the idea that menopause is a time of crisis and revolution – something we necessarily need to treat through specific interventions that target it."

Seeing as he’s benefitted so much from this flexible working opportunity, is he going to come out and champion this for the general public? Acknowledging his privilege would go a long way here I think. People can’t help what they’re born into but they can do a lot with the platform they’re given.
I wonder if he will do that as well. As it seems another PR fiasco waiting to happen. The Queen was dying of cancer but had all her children working full time.
Tumblr media
Whenever articles like this come out I am reminded of what Wills was like when he actually had to work and had weeks off at a time to the dismay of his colleagues.
‘He’s hardly ever on shift. He was very enthusiastic to begin with but it tailed off. It’s supposed to be four on, four off but with the Duke it’s more off than on. He had at least four weeks off over Christmas, which has to be staffed the same as normal weeks. It’s fine that he gets a bit of special treatment but it’s beginning to really annoy some people. The rumour is that he’s just a bit bored of it.’ ”
And then the royal household shot back at claims we was lazy by saying he needed mandatory rest days for his job resulting in the Civil Aviation Authority having to shoot back and saying “When they are having rest days their time is their own, and they can do what they want, including carrying out royal duties.”
I can’t imagine this level of unprofessionalism.
Tumblr media
The whole thing I’ve felt about this is what a stark contrast it is to the plebs they rule over - from preventative chemo when we have people waiting months on the NHS (from personal experience experience - I had a scam last year to see if I have a form of gynaecological cancer. I was told the scan was clear. Last month I was told that the scan was actually inconclusive and needs redoing as they couldn’t see the part the needed to but no one told me until nearly a year later) to partners who get punished for taking time off work to care for a loved one.
I understand that they are rich and powerful enough to do what they want. But it’s rather galling to see such a stark contrast between ruler and subject.
Tumblr media
He really does seem like he’s not interested in the whole thing doesn’t he?
He's only interested in the income and power that comes with it, he'll never give it up he's spent his whole adult life trying to do as little as possible. The moment he got access to the Prince of Wales duchy $ he was no longer beholden to his father and can now redefine expectations. The bar has been set pretty low and he has the British Tabloid Media propping him up and running PR for him, there's also evidence that they spend a fair chunk of cash employing bots online propping them up and attacking anyone who says anything negative. Between the BTM and the royal sychophants he's been getting away with it and will continue to. Countdown 3,2,1 to one of those sycophants leaving me a comment .....
Tumblr media
I think he should have to follow around people who have to keep working while also caregiving for sick or elderly family members while also juggling raising kids and keeping up on other obligations. I’m sure he would be shocked — most of us can’t step back to the extent he gets to do so. As the future king, he should understand the lives of the majority of the people. Read the room.
Tumblr media
Considering their work is mostly just turning up and being “seen”. How exactly is work from home gonna help anyone?
He’s going to do some twitch streaming.
Tumblr media
I just learned that 600 organizations sponsored by QE2 have not yet been taken over.  Some are very important but there are no signs of any restructuring, selection and elimination plans.  People criticize W for this instead of C because W is the one who shows no interest in continuing to show up and sponsor organizations.  William currently only works as Chairman, managing the principality and two projects Earthshot and Housing for the Homeless.  W does not take over King Charles' projects like he is PoW, so King is basically overloaded and cannot take over anymore.
Tumblr media
If he wants to work without being seen, then the real question is what type of "behind the scenes work" is he actually doing? Because every time he talks about a topic in public, he only seems to speak popular talking points that even someone without knowledge can say. He doesn't speak like someone who really knows the topic of discussion in depth.
That's why Earthshot being a "passion project" is laughable. His speeches are so shallow. It's the same with Kate and Early Years and those lame five questions that took some ten years to come up with. Everything they say is like a total no-brainer. So, what work are they really doing behind the scenes?
Tumblr media
I think people whose spouses have cancer should be able to take health leave and its v sad for people who live in a country where they can't. But I would give him a lot more grace if he and Kate weren't famously Duchess Dolittle and Workshy William. This has been a habit for years. Its not like Anne got sick and disappeared from public life
Yep. He has been on Easter holiday since March 23 to April 17. Plus, January entirely off. It doesn't look good.
Tumblr media
My friend has breast cancer (we’re in the UK). She’s having chemo and is the same age as Kate. She has to have fairy major surgery after the chemo and has had to go back to work because she has to save her sick leave for the recovery from the operation. This is during chemotherapy. This country is completely broken and lacks compassion for everyone (like most of the Western World) but then expects an exception to be made for the royal family who are loaded and don’t even use the NHS and have an enormous amount of monetary resources.
I have huge compassion for Kate. I think she’s been incredible over a long period of time in a job I would absolutely loathe personally (whether people say she wanted the gig or not) - but I don’t think William has had her back very much recently from what I can see objectively, particularly over the recent PR debacle. And, being honest, I wonder why that is. I think we’re fed total BS by the press over who these people really are.
I don’t think you can be raised like William or Harry and have any kind of perspective. It’s just logical that you can’t. They had a terrible childhood to be honest. And there are people who hold responsibility for that.
But yes, absolutely, if Kate wants him there, he should be allowed to support his family, no questions asked. I just wonder if she really does?
Can someone who knows actually share what his duties are and how he can work while not being seen?
Tumblr media
Can someone who knows actually share what his duties are and how he can work while not being seen?
He looks at the country with somber frowns on his face and in return the country looks back at him with approving nods. That is what we call a symbiotic relationship.
Tumblr media
How quickly William forgets the way he and Kate were ripped apart prior to the great Sussex Split.  He can do what he wants, but this is inevitably not going to go well and he is definitely no longer a young and handsome sympathetic figure.
Yeah that one reporter said it perfectly when they were speculating about why Will didn’t go to that funeral that William feels he can do what he likes because the press let’s him get away with everything.
Tumblr media
"Working from home"? How stupid do they think people are? waits to see the defense(s) royalists come up with
Is she sicker than anticipated? Because Charles seems to have actual cancer versus "cancer was present" and "preventative chemo," and he is "working" more than William.
Also, don't forget that Camilla has also been out and about and "working," during his treatments.
Something is weird.
Tumblr media
The press’s analysis of him is willfully ignorant as usual. It used to be the kids, now it’s Kate’s diagnosis. Will is telling us his approach to royal “work” is not and will not be the same as the King or Queen Elizabeth. This is his plan for the monarchy.
They've been doing it since he left Eaton. It's one invented excuse after another. Anything to excuse his refusal to do any royal "work" so they don't have to criticize him, and he can keep his "Golden Boy" image.
let him enjoy a normal college experience!
he's only in his 20s! He's got time!
He's an ambulance pilot, let him have fun with that for a bit!
He's not the heir! He's only the son of the heir!
he just got married!
He's only in his 30s! He's got time!
he has babies at home!
he has small children at home!
he's not the King, his father is!
His wife has cancer!
What's next?
Tumblr media
Will is telling us his approach to royal “work” is not and will not be the same as the King or Queen Elizabeth.
Mmhmm well the press and royalists' response to Will telling them he' would rather be a lazy, hands off King is for him to reconsider his entitlement and privilege - reality check for this 40 something year old Prince
Bingo. Start as you mean to go on...which means doing nothing and collecting taxpayer money while you do it.
Tumblr media
William’s work ethic is going to be a catalyst to reform the UK government :/ EII had to be seen to be believed - William believes in not being seen? The republicans will gain momentum with a King who does nothing.
Tumblr media
To repeat what I said a month or so ago when they claimed William was focused on “his work, not social media:” what work?

If you’re experiencing a high-risk pregnancy, here are some treatments and strategies that may be part of your care plan in Jagatpura:
Medications and Supplements: For conditions like hypertension, gestational diabetes, or preeclampsia, doctors may prescribe medications to manage blood pressure, control blood sugar levels, or prevent preterm labor. Prenatal vitamins and folic acid supplements are also crucial for healthy fetal development.
Frequent Monitoring: With high-risk pregnancy treatment in Jagatpura, Jaipur, you will undergo more frequent ultrasounds, blood tests, and fetal heart rate monitoring to assess the health of both mother and baby. Early identification of complications such as low amniotic fluid, fetal growth restriction, or placental issues is essential for timely interventions.
Bed Rest and Lifestyle Modifications: For some high-risk pregnancies, doctors may recommend reduced activity or bed rest to ensure the mother’s health and minimize the risk of preterm labor. Adjusting lifestyle factors like diet, hydration, and exercise may also be part of the treatment plan.
Preterm Labor Management: In cases of preterm labor, high-risk pregnancy treatment in Jaipur includes strategies to delay labor as long as possible to allow for fetal lung maturity. This may involve medications like steroids or magnesium sulfate to prepare the baby’s lungs for birth.
Surgical Interventions: In rare cases, surgical interventions may be necessary, including cesarean sections, cervical cerclage (a stitch to prevent early delivery), or other procedures to ensure the safety of both mother and baby.
Postpartum Care: After delivery, women with high-risk pregnancies often require more intensive monitoring and care to address any lingering health concerns, such as blood pressure management or recovery from cesarean sections.

The Bhopal Tragedy
On the night of December 2nd, 1984, a Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, began leaking 27 tonnes of the deadly gas methyl isocyanate. None of the six safety systems designed to contain such a leak were operational, allowing the gas to spread throughout the city of Bhopal. Half a million people were exposed to the gas and 25,000 have died to date as a result of their exposure. More than 120,000 people still suffer from ailments caused by the accident and the subsequent pollution at the plant site. These ailments include blindness, extreme difficulty in breathing and gynaecological disorders. In the Immediate aftermath, the health care system immediately became overloaded. In the severely affected areas, nearly 70% were under-qualified doctors. Medical staff were unprepared for the thousands of casualties. Doctors and hospitals were not aware of proper treatment methods for MIC gas inhalation. There were mass funerals and cremations. Within a few days, trees in the vicinity became barren, and bloated animal carcasses had to be disposed of. 170,000 people were treated at hospitals and temporary dispensaries, and 2,000 buffalo, goats, and other animals were collected and buried. Supplies, including food, became scarce owing to suppliers' safety fears. Fishing was prohibited, causing further supply shortages. Formal statements after a few weeks were issued that air, water, vegetation, and foodstuffs were safe, but people were warned not to consume fish. The number of children exposed to the gases was at least 200,000. Within weeks, the State Government established a number of hospitals, clinics, and mobile units in the gas-affected area to treat the victims.  A cohort of 80,021 exposed people was registered, along with a control group, a cohort of 15,931 people from areas not exposed to MIC. Nearly every year since 1986, they have answered the same questionnaire. It shows excess mortality and morbidity in the exposed group. Bias and confounding factors cannot be excluded from the study. Because of migration and other factors, 75% of the cohort is lost, as the ones who move out are not followed. A number of clinical studies are performed. The quality varies, but the different reports support each other. Studied and reported long-term health effects are: Eyes: Chronic conjunctivitis, scars on cornea, corneal opacities, early cataracts Respiratory tracts: Obstructive and/or restrictive disease, pulmonary fibrosis, aggravation of tuberculosis and chronic bronchitis Neurological system: Impairment of memory, finer motor skills, numbness, etc. Psychological problems: Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Children's health: Peri- and neonatal death rates increased. Failure to grow, intellectual impairment, etc. Missing or insufficient fields for research are female reproduction, chromosomal aberrations, cancer, immune deficiency, neurological sequelae, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and children born after the disaster. Late cases that might never be highlighted are respiratory insufficiency, cardiac insufficiency (cor pulmonale), cancer and tuberculosis. Bhopal now has high rates of birth defects and records a miscarriage rate 7x higher than the national average. The site has never been properly cleaned up and it continues to poison the residents of Bhopal.
