Obscure Tolkien Blorbo: Round 1
Eldacar of Gondor vs Gwindeth
Eldacar of Gondor:
The twenty-first King of Gondor, also known as Vinitharya. During his reign the conflict known as the Kin-strife occurred and he was forced from his throne for ten years.
The blorbo of all time actually. He’s the protagonist of one of the most interesting stories in the LoTR appendices, the Kin-strife, and everything about his life story is so fascinating! His father was the crown prince of Gondor and his mother was the princess of Rhovanion so not a Númenorean. As a result all the racist nobles of Gondor made noises about how Eldacar was of “lesser race” and wouldn’t live as long as a “true Dúnadan”. One of the most fascinating examples of fantasy racism in Tolkien’s works imo – the bigotry is awful but the bigots have a shield to hide behind! Obviously their concerns are actually valid because they just don’t want their king to die young! (Their concerns aren’t valid. But I think the worldbuilding here is great.) Anyway Eldacar was born in Rhovanion and given the birth-name Vinitharya, but when he returned to Gondor aged five he was obliged to take up the Quenya name Eldacar, presumably to pacify all the racists in Gondor. He’s the EMBODIMENT of mixed-race/immigrant child trauma my beloved. Eventually his father died and he ascended to the throne of Gondor, but then his shitty second cousin Castamir (all my homies hate Castamir he’s the worst) started the civil war known as the Kin-strife and usurped Eldacar’s throne. Eldacar was forced to flee north to Rhovanion but Castamir captured his eldest son Ornendil and had him cruelly put to death which is SO SAD. But Eldacar, being brave and resourceful and clever and extremely cool, put together an alliance with his mother’s kinsfolk in Rhovanion and after ten years reclaimed his throne, which turned out to be slightly easier than expected because Castamir was The Worst and all his subjects hated him. And Eldacar PERSONALLY fought and killed Castamir HIMSELF and AVENGED HIS SON which is extremely important when you consider all the cringefail elves in the legendarium whose quests for revenge didn’t really go anywhere at all. Then he lived to be 235 proving that all the idiot racists who were worried about his lifespan didn’t have any idea what they were talking about, as is par for the course with racists. Also the Kin-strife itself has such far-reaching consequences for the history of Gondor! The Corsairs of Umbar, Gondor’s long-standing enemies, are actually followers of the descendants of Castamir. And during the Usurpation of Castamir Osgiliath was sacked and burned, leading to the beginning of its decline as Gondor’s greatest city. Even though Eldacar’s story is, to me, ultimately hopeful, it’s also such a fascinating turning point in the history of Gondor. Also ALSO he’s explicitly surrounded by textual ghosts which is really fascinating. His father Valacar has “children” plural – so Eldacar had siblings!! What were they like? How did they react to it all? And his son Aldamir is described as Eldacar’s second son and third child, meaning that he had a daughter too. Who was she?? What happened to her? He’s such a blorbo and there’s so much interesting stuff to dig into around him and he has to win this entire tournament please please please ❤️
Gwindeth:
A spirit who watched over lake Evendim and the surrounding Anorian ruins in the LOTRO game. She was also known as “The Blue Lady of Nenuial”
lady of the lake! goldberry-type water spirit who lives in/keeps lake nenuial. loved elendil & hung out with the kings in annuminas until the division of arnor. will yell at you if you accidentally kill the frogs in her cave. very intense all the time

Errrm what the scallop ☝️ it’s a new oc post (drunken)
Had a few shots and I’m stretching out my oc muscles rn bcs it’s been a while since Iv rly gone in on making a new one (thurwen once again has been stealing my attention)
This is gonna be a rant for me to remember what the scallop I was thinking when I wake up tomorrow but I come up w all my best oc ideas drunk. So.
GWINDETH. nicknames Gwin, Gwinny, peapod, slipper. Don’t ask for context of the last names as she will not give it.
Breton female, about 5’7, 29 at the start of elder scrolls online so around the age of 1029 at the start of Skyrim. Black hair in a meticulously maintained short cut that doesn’t reach the bottom of her ears, side part bangs that reach just to the top of her eyebrows bcs if it gets any longer it makes her wanna shave her head. Healer/necromancer/it’s complicated. Starts out as a healer but as time goes on her life he much worse as does the state of the world, and she doesn’t trust anyone or anything else to take care of it so she becomes a lich. Easier said than done but she has… a lot of practice. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Her becoming a lich and getting interested in necromancy happens way after the events of ESO. God. Okay so no one gonna read this anyhow so I’m just marking main character traits so I remember
•genius
•obsessive
•kind hearted but unsure how to express it as she is v non expressive nd people frequently misinterpret her
•has a decent relationship w her parents. It’s not good it’s not bad it’s just slightly less than average but she seeks their approval
•has always been interested in the process of decay and corpses and thus was not very popular as a child :/
•her parents worry about her, but don’t understand her and don’t want to. They just want her to be normall
•loud noises, busyness and bright lights kind of make her go insane but she’s become an expert at internalizing discomfort so she just kind of goes nonresponsive when these things happen bcs she doesn’t wanna be a bother. But if they go on long enough and she can’t get a break she will be a bitch about it
•her favorite animal is the mountain lion! She relates to it a lot. That’s up to u 2 figure out how
•she’s prone to fits of melancholy and depression. The only thing she can do in these times to keep from spiraling is to throw herself into her studies

46 for gwindeth?👀
"This is all my fault."
The voice was soft, barely a whisper above the sound of the falls. The frogs did not add their voices, and the snakes made no passage and no sound. She could not help him now, not the way he needed.
"My fault..." It was a small, despondent repetition. Gwindeth stepped around the bodies of the others, some still in hurt or slumber, some shifting in pain or confusion. She found him and crouched down. This one she knew from the city. This one watched over the places of his ancestors and his living kin alike. This one was good.
He couldn't see her with his face creased like that. Contorted in pain and guilt. She didn't like being seen, not always, but this one was lost. He did not need to suffer so. Gwindeth ran a hand just over his forehead. Water ran freely off his face and moved his hair from his eyes. It fell into the grass from the cloak and shoulder-guard pressing so heavily on his neck.
One of the others would come around soon. Not many in her halls were in grave danger. A few. She would see to them before it became worse. But this one needed her, if only for another moment. His despair was heavier than the water draining back into her ponds. Water could do so much good and so much harm to Men. Heal or hurt.
"I should have... now we're all..."
He was still in the throes. Guilt or pain or guilt and pain. The losses could have been heavier. He did not know. A frog croaked. Gwindeth turned and saw the largest Man roll onto his stomach. His cloak ran with water and with blood, but still he tried to get to his knees. He would stumble in another moment. Untended, he would die in another minute.
"No," she finally said. Softly, for his ears alone. "It is not yours. It is mine, and not wholly mine. Will I guard Elendil's tomb but not his children?"
She stood, noting that he had dried enough to be comfortable. Hopefully, the others had as well. The large Man dropped to the grass, spent. She would save him. She would save the rest of them. Not one of Elendil's kin would be taken from her halls. Not after all else she had lost.

Eithel Gwaur makes me sad because while it's been... modified... the base architecture here is not Mordorrim, it's Gondorian.
The purpose of this structure is unclear, but it may have been in part a home for Rauniel. Gwindeth's home, after all, has an Arnorian structure in it that was apparently built for her, and Gulthava has a grotto in Kidzul-kalah that she calls home. (Though it's less clear here that this place was meant for her and she didn't just move in after the Dwarves left.) So there does seem to be a trend of people building homes for River-maids if they happen to know them. This structure is pretty large, so it may have also served some other purpose. Filtering the water, maybe, since it was coming from the Mountains of Shadow.
IDK it's just sad to think that this place probably used to be beautiful, and Rauniel probably spent a lot of time here.

Reaching Out
For: Elrond | @malkuvoitenoldoran
Muse: Arathorn
Verse: What is Seen is Not Always what Lies Ahead | AU
Tumblr media
DAY and NIGHT; SUN and MOON; LIFE and DEATH; LIGHT and DARK.
Each keeps the other in CHECK, preventing the BALANCE from failing.
But when that balance is broken and you stand on a razor-sharp knife edge,
DO YOU ASK FOR HELP THAT MAY NEVER COME OR CUT YOURSELF OPEN AND
         F
                 A
                          L
                                   L
                                           ?
As both a Ranger and the current Chieftain of the Northern Dunedain, Arathorn had seen his fair share of Death. Caused by both his own hands and that of others, as well as Nature itself. He had also seen Life, new and old, but then that was not unusual when it came to the Wandering Men of the North. Killing had always been seen as a necessary evil when it came to his kin, one that he took no delight in doing. But rarely had much choice, lest darkness spread across the lands.
On a more personal level, Arathorn had been hit with both loss and joy at the same time. Joy - for the birth of his son and heir, Aragorn. And loss- for his wife, Gilraen had passed from this world just a few days after Aragorn was born. What should have been a happy occasion was marred by grief and pain. As well as a anger that had been directed at him by Gilraen’s grieving parents. For it had been as unexpected to them, as it was by him.
He needed to visit Tinnudir and Rushingdale, the place where the Lady Gwindeth spent much of her time. But making the trip there whilst caring for his son wasn’t worth the risk. With his father also gone, Maechedir not up to looking after a baby again and not completely trusting his in-laws, there was only one place he could take Aragorn.
It was the dead of night when the lone eyed Ranger dismounted carefully from the back of his rather patient dappled grey mare. He hadn’t given any warning that he was coming, unlike normal. He couldn’t run the risk of the note being intercepted by their enemies. There weren’t that many elves awake at that time of night, so he slipped into the room that was kept for when he visited.
  Imladris.
Home of Lord Elrond, his children and their kin. Long time allies to that of the Dunedain and the elf who had helped raise him.
Arathorn didn’t fall asleep once he had gotten his son settled though. He simply curled up by the sleeping chid and silently watched over him. Aware that he would probably be getting visitors in the morning when his horse or presence was noticed.
