watched manjummel boys yesterday and honestly I'm shook. I almost cried by the end of the movie. It was both scary and endearing at the same time. The crafty usage of the kanmani anbodu song while Subhash was being hoisted up was literally perfect. It perfectly showcased their dedication, concern, the pain, fear, guilt; they saw darkness and death take over their lives for a couple of hours and came back to relief and ease. The torment of all those emotions altogether at once was portrayed amazingly. Not enough credit is given to the beautiful and realistic replication of Guna caves. It seemed natural, like as if the whole shoot was really done there. One discrepancy I notice in most movies that involve characters that speak a non native language is the usage of accented language and grammatically incorrectly scripted dialogues, neither of which showed up in this movie, which is genuinely praise worthy or atleast acknowledgement worthy. The cinematography, the symbolism, the peripherals, everything was beautiful and spot on. Amazing combination of thriller, horror, and emotional sensitivity. 10/10 movie

GUNA CAVE
Guna Caves or initially named as The Devil's Kitchen, is a cave located in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India.[1] It attracts many visitors every year.[2] The location got the name Guna Caves after it was featured in the 1991 film Gunaa starring Kamal Haasan. After the release of the flim the location had attracted a higher amount of visitors and tourists.[3] Subsequently, other films were also shot there, including the climax of the Malayalam film Shikkar (2010),[4][5] and another Malayalam film Manjummel Boys (2024), which was based on a real accident at the cave.[1]

in addition to isaignani's music being its own character in manjummel boys, the film also created the guna caves and nature itself as a character. it reminded me of jirisan tbh.
#both the music and the setting felt much more fleshed out as characters in the film#like both the squad and the tamil characters i felt not as connected to?#both music and nature#intagible as characters but felt the most resonant with me#the performances from the cast were of course phenomenal but just wasnt quite there? like it was almost? but not quite#also im not a film critic so i dont have any clearer way of saying it lol

Genre, Elements of Storytelling, and Media Principles
Genre
Genre is a treatment to a story for a particular audience. Genre shapes the story for the audience that how it going to appeal to their specific taste and expectation.
We have mainly three type of genre:
Mainstream genre
Sub-genre
Hybrid genre
Mainstream genre is an all the normal genre, which we know such as comedy, horror, action etc. These are the mainstream genre.
However, sub-genre is also a genre, but it is genre under genre. Example space horror. Here space is sci-fi, and horror is under in it.
Lastly, hybrid genre is mix of different genre.
Elements of storytelling
If we look at any story in the movies or series, it is based on three things Information, conflict, and destiny. Which is known as the Element of Storytelling. If we look at each of these, it is quite simple to understand.
Elements
Information is all about the details or information about our main character and setting. It can be what the protagonist does in his regular life, family, and things going on in the film.
Conflict
In most of the stories, there must be some obstacles in the hero's life, which affect his lifestyle in terms of relationships, work, etc. The obstacle can be an antagonist or any other thing that makes the hero struggle. This can be his past, lifestyle conditions like being poor, etc. This is known as the conflict of the story.
Destiny
Lastly, destiny is all about where the story ends. It could have a happy ending or a sad one. Everything is in the writer's hand and his or her creativity. It all, in the end, is the condition of the actors or the situation.
Source: This image is taken by the youtube video.
Principle of storytelling
Now if we look at the principle of storytelling. It is all about the things around which the story involves. There are mainly ten principles.
Object: Story is fully based on the object based. Avengers: Infinity War revolves around Infinity Stone. Therefore, it is good example of object based.
Place: In this movie is totally revolve around a place. For example, Manjuman Boys. The movie, which revolve around the place called The Guna Caves. Where One of the friends falls and then whole movie shows their struggle of taking out the one friend. It is real based movie.
Conversation: Movie of series is mostly based on the conversation. For Example, Gullak, the series which revolves around everyday life of middle-class family. This series is known for its simplicity, heartwarming and humorous conversation between family.
Nostalgia: In this the movie or series is based on Nostalgia. Where we go in past, and kind relate with it. One of the examples of this kind of movie is 96 of Vijay Sethupati. This movie is about a school love story, and separation. Where The hero and heroine meet after a long time, and we go in past and see all the misunderstanding of their and love between them. It has multiple flashback, which evoke the feeling of first love.
Source: Wallpapercave
Rumor: In this movie are based on rumors. Where movies are based on misunderstanding and half-truth. One of the good examples of it is Hera Pheri. In this the character used to jump to conclusion, after listening half-truth. Which lead to multiple humorous situations.
History (Myth/ Religion): In this the movies are based on past which revolves around myth or religion. One of the examples of it is Mahabharat, where it is fully based on the Hinduism.
Source: Youtube Video
Backstory: The is story, which has some past story, which has changed the current situation. It is mostly, when we see hero in certain manner and, some side character or narration, takes us in his past and reveal his story. Sanju, the story of Sanjay Dutt, an Indian actor. His role was played by Ranbir Kapoor. This movie is a Biography. In this we look at the past of Sanjay Dutt, his struggled and mistakes he has made in his past.
Calamity: Calamity is all about a movie which revolve around climate or natural disaster. The scene and everything take place based on the climate. One of example is Sharknado, which is based on an absurd natural disaster, a massive tornado filled with Sharks. They all fall on the city and eat people.
News: This is the one, where we create real story in form of movie or series. It is basically a real based film, which create impact on people in larger scale. It is mostly to help people to understand what is going on in the world or happened. Kashmir files is one of the examples of this principle.
Blending: This is the one, where most of the principle is being used. It's like all rounded. It can have object, place, calamity or other principle of storytelling mentioned above in it. It's mixer of the principle of storytelling. One of the examples is titanic. It is real based story, where it has conversation and object, which is titanic itself. If we go deep, we will find much more principle in it. These are the few, which can easily be spotted.

Then Milarepa sang this song
"Fortunate and noble people,
Don't you know that the things of this life are beguiling?
Don't you know that enjoyments are magical displays?
Don't you know that samsara is in fact nirvana?
Don't you know that pleasures are just a dream?
Don't you know that that praise and blame are just echoes?
Don't you know that perceptions are just your mind?
Don't you know that your mind is the buddha?
Don't you know that the buddha is dharmakaya?
Don't you know that dharmakaya is your basic nature?
When you realize this, all you experience is included within mind.
Day and night, look into this mind.
When looking into this mind, it is not a thing to be seen.
Let be in this state of no-seeing.
I do not feel that Mahamudra's nature Can in any way be matched.
So, I remain in the state of nonclinging mind.
Meditation and post-meditation are indivisible, So, I have no longer meditation stages.
Whatever is experienced is empty in essence, So there is nothing for mindfulness to hold or lose.
I have tasted the flavor of nonarising, And likewise realized its practice.
The training in karmamudra,
The practice of the nadis, pranas and bindus, Reciting mantras and visualizing the deity,
Contemplating the four Brahma abodes, and so forth - These are all ways to enter this Supreme Vehicle.
Even if you were to meditate on them specifically, It will not suffice to give up desire and anger.
Perceptions are your own mind, So, understand that this mind is empty.
When you no longer part from the experience of realization,
The keeping of discipline, making offerings, and so forth, Are all contained within that."
~ Milarepa

Guna Cave: A mysterious cave in Kodaikanal to visit in your weekend
One of South India’s most loved hill stations, Kodaikanal is known for its beautiful forests, cliffs, lakes, waterfalls, and stunning landscapes, but most of all, Kodaikanal is famous for its illusive Guna caves. Named after the Kamal Hassan classic “Guna”, the Guna caves and the iconic ‘kanmani anbodu’ song are now revived through the new superhit Malayalam movie “Manjummal Boys”. The movie depicts a real-life incident that took place years ago in the Guna Caves. The mesmerising beauty, danger, adventure, and mystery surrounding the Guna caves have been attracting travellers and backpackers to this wonderful spot for a long time. If you are planning a weekend trip, Guna Cave and the surrounding destinations in Kodaikanal are a perfect choice, but to quench your curiosity for now, here is everything you need to know about Guna Caves before you visit.
The history of Guna Caves
The cave, only known among the locals prior to this discovery, was first noticed and recorded by a British officer, B.S. Ward, in 1821. He named the caves the Devil’s Kitchen, obviously due to the mysterious appearance and apparent danger the caves posed. After the discovery of B.S. Ward, the caves remained unknown to most people until the release of Kamal Hassan Classic Guna in 1991, which was shot predominantly in the caves and the surrounding area. The cave was renamed after the movie and became a famous tourist attraction in the coming years.
Though famous for its stunning beauty, since it became a famous tourist spot, Guna Caves have gained a reputation for being extremely dangerous as well. The cave is treacherous and has a lot of deep and dangerous holes, and according to records, at least 16 people have disappeared and died in the caves. The movie ‘Manjummal Boys’ depicts the events that led to the only successful rescue operation in the Guna Caves. The entrance to the cave is not open to the public or visitors due to safety concerns, but the beautiful area surrounding the cave and the view of the cave have attracted a lot of visitors since the release of the film. There are also many interesting myths and legends surrounding the caves, adding to the mystery and wonder of it all.
When to visit Guna Caves and Kodaikanal?
Like we discussed before, Guna Cave is known for its treacherousness as well as its beauty, so visiting at the right time is important to have a good experience. When the weather is too wet and cold, it is best to avoid visiting Guna Caves because the walk to the caves can be very slippery. The dry months, which are April to June and November to March, are considered the best time to visit the Guna caves. When it comes to Kodaikanal as a whole, monsoon (June to September) is not the peak season, but if you are looking for a unique experience, Kodaikanal in monsoon can surprise you. Otherwise, March to June and December to February months are considered ideal to visit the stunning destinations in Kodaikanal.

Remember to visit here when there is light outside and mind your safety.
Pine forest: The pine forest is another iconic location you might have seen in the movie Manjummal Boys. you can take long walks through the endless woody paths here, inhale the fresh smell of pine wood, and collect dried cones as a souvenir.
