Rangers seize weapons during raid in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar

A Rangers spokesperson said three suspects gave the paramilitary force information about the hidden weapons. Khurram, Iqbal and Naveed were arrested for the murder of Tajir Saleem on April 9. The seized arms and ammunition included five Kalashnikovs, two MP-5s, seven pistols, 11 hand grenades and thousands of bullets. A walkie-talkie and two mobile phones were also found. Gulshan-e-Maymar

Gulshan-e-Maymar (Urdu: گلشن معمار ‎) is one of the neighbourhoods of Gadap Town in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.[1]

There are several ethnic groups in Gulshan-e-Maymar including Muhajirs, Sindhis, Punjabis, Kashmiris, Seraikis, Pakhtuns, Balochis, Memons, Bohras, Ismailis, etc. Over 99% of the population is Muslim. The population of Gadap Town is estimated to be nearly one million.

Maymar Overview

Gulshan-e-Maymar is a landmark project from Maymar. The concept of Gulshan-e-Maymar originated in the late 1970s – the venture was formally launched in 1980. The core philosophy driving the establishment of this township was to provide a model, master-planned community for Karachi’s populace in a suburban setting. The township was planned from scratch, with a focus on building into the master plan amenities and services that were not available elsewhere in the city. Generous allocation were made for parks, mosques, clubs, health and education facilities, etc. to allow residents to feel self-contained within the bounds of the township. In essence, Gulshan-e-Maymar represented a microcosm of Maymar’s management’s utopian world.

Having gone through 13 phases of extensions and development, Gulshan-e-Maymar currently stands at 1023 acres. Its population today is at 30% of its optimal capacity of 100,000, which is the number around which all the amenities and services have been planned. The township has witnessed significant growth in recent years due to its quaint setting, plethora of amenities, relatively low air and noise pollution, and access to one of the major freeways of the country. At its current growth rate, the township will get close to its capacity figure by 2012. The significant growth of this township has resulted in exponential appreciation of real estate prices within it – this trend is expected to continue in the foreseeable future as evidenced by the growth projections and the lack of alternative townships with similar facilities and amenities.

Location Gulshan-e-Maymar township is situated just off the Super Highway (main highway between Karachi and Hyderabad) in KDA Scheme 45 (and partly in KDA scheme 33) in Karachi. It is about ten kilometers north-east of Sohrab Goth / F.B. Area and approximately 15 kilometers from the Expo Center. Its postal code is 75340.[2]

Rangers arrested extortion gang in a raid in Gulbahar Karachi The rangers arrested four members of an extortion gang in a raid in Gulbahar area of Karachi. The paramilitary force arrested four accused namely Fahad, Sufian, Usama and Ilyas, a spokesperson of the rangers said. “The gang had sent a chit on January 19, demanding 2.5 million protection money from a trader,” according to the rangers statement. The victim was warned of dire consequences including killing his family members in case of his failure to pay the extortion money, spokesperson said. The law enforcement force recovered mobile phone, sim card and voice clip from the arrested accused, the spokesperson stated. Moreover, the police conducted a combing operation in various parts of district Malir, police officials said. The combing operation, also participated by women police, was held in jurisdictions of Gadap City, Malir City and Gulshan-e-Maymar police stations.
